someone can only be deemed to have legally left his political party by letter of resignation signed by him/her, addressed to his or her Ward Chairman. It is that system and those people that are responsible for this boys plight and misery.

Had he grown up with responsible adult care mentoring every stage of his development, will he be where he is today? It is irresponsible for Nigerians to play politics with the plight of this boy and millions like him.

No crime has been committed getting him into that court room because he is suspected of conduct regarded as wrong in the eyes of the law.

A responsible society, rather than be playing cheap politics, would look at how to ensure boys and girls like these don't fall into despondency from birth that then dooms them to a life of pain, neglect, deprivation and perhaps serious crime eventually.

Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, Prof Chidi Odinkalu has taken to his official X account to react after court stopped the Central Bank of Nigeria from releasing allocations to the government of Rivers state.

According to PUNCH, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday stopped the Central Bank of Nigeria from further releasing monthly financial allocations to Rivers State Government.

According to a post that Prof Chidi Odinkalu made on his page on Wednesday, he said 20 years ago when Bola Ahmed Tinubu was the governor of Lagos state, the Supreme Court of Nigeria declined an application to withhold the federation account allocations of Lagos state LGAs. He said today, a judge of the Federal High Court has overruled the Supreme Court.

According to Chidi Odinkalu;

"20 years ago, while Tinubu was governor of Lagos state, Supreme Court declined an application to withhold the federation account allocations of Lagos LGAs.


"Today, a judge of Federal High Court overruled the Supreme Court. This is not Rule Of Law; it is tyranny of the outlaw".

This is long overdue, considering the impact of overpopulation in the southwest, especially on Lagos... Lagos should have been given a special status since, cos everyone from every Nigerian tribe lives in Lagos. Most projects are funded by the state, while the focus has been on the Niger Delta region (which is totally necessary) and the North.

I went to a state outside Lagos recently and noticed there were only few people, most people have moved to Lagos, thereby putting extra pressure on the resources of the state, as well as that of Ogun state.

He wants to change the political system so that indigenous politicians get more support and non-indigenous people can't run for office.


At a recent event in Ikorodu, Olanrewaju said that the present political parties were unfair to local people because they didn't give them important political roles. He said that this coalition of ruling elites, mostly made up of non-indigenes, has been very important in keeping Lagos State's government system in place. Concerning a major issue, Olanrewaju said that Lagos has only had one indigenous leader in the last 25 years. This raises important concerns about how well local interests are represented in government. "The political parties have consistently favored non-indigenes for key positions, ignoring the rights and interests of the indigenous population," he said, calling for a fresh look at the things that the state's politicians think are important.


stressed how important it was for indigenous people of all political views to work together. He told them they should work together to run for office, from governor to town council seats. "We must reject the manipulation of politics that perpetuates inequality and marginalization," he told us. He also asked political parties to make sure that their nominees were from the indigenous community. He said that this was the only way to make sure that the government of Lagos State really understood the wants and needs of the people who live there legally.

A United Kingdom-based Nigerian accountant and investment expert, Ms Patricia Adenike Balogun, has urged Nigerians to have faith and confidence in the capacity of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to turn around the economic fortune of Nigeria.

According to her, the president is well endowed with all accounting and management tools, including the right leadership qualities to transform the Nigerian economy to a prosperous one.

Speaking from London in a Zoom interview with Nigerian journalists in Abuja, Ms. Balogun said, accountants are the best set of professionals that can lead a country out of recession and during the time of prosperity because they are visionaries, innovative and risk takers.

Ms. Patricia Balogun, an Accountant herself, also expressed confidence that the President could leverage on his background in the profession to task his professional colleagues on planning policies capable of reviving several sectors of the Nigerian economy made comatose by the harsh situation bedevilling the country.

She, additionally, asked that the government should reduce the tax burden on small businesses in order to help them navigate and survive the current economic challenges.

Ms. Balogun regarded as an advantage the background of the President as a former Accountant with Mobil Oil Producing and other establishments.

She said: “Accountants like President Tinubu are best to lead a country out of a recession. They are visionary, innovative and risk-takers. Although traditionally viewed as professionals who focus on numbers and data, their role is more dynamic. President Tinubu has been trained with the capacity to drive growth and embrace innovation. Their analytical skills as Accountants give them the capacity for data-based decision-making.”

She credited the accounting profession with facilitating the development of trail-blazing IT software currently driving innovations such as the Treasury Single Account (TSA) embraced by the Nigerian government, as well as FinTech and e-commerce platforms.

On the TSA, she said: “The accountants within the public sector put ideas together, and came up with that Treasury Single Account system to help ensure better transparency and accountability in the area of the management of funds within the country, as well as to curb corruption.”

According to her, the nation should not underrate the advantages that accountants and the accounting profession can bring to bear on the nation’s search for socio-economic solutions.

Balogun said: “Accountants have the capacity to drive growth and we are innovative. The analytical skills of accountants that make them excel in analysing data are very crucial in a time of economic uncertainty because we use the data we analyse to back the decisions we make. We have the risk assessment method of finding financial risks, along with different scenarios, to produce healthy outcomes. We have very good capacity in strategic planning.

Balogun recalled that accountants had been drivers behind the adoption of the Financial Reporting Standard (FRS) that has enhanced transparency and accountability within companies and within the country generally.

“During the privatisation policies of the 1990s and early 2000s, the accountants put together measures to help in ensuring that business outcomes were achieved,” Balogun said.

“In the agricultural sector too, we look at the efforts to diversify its different value chains within the economy and this led to increased jobs in agriculture. It also helped to diversify the country’s reliance on oil," she added.

Apart from reducing the tax burden on small businesses and other areas, Balogun advocated for robust government intervention that include funding and infrastructural development: “If ease of access to funds can be guaranteed to small businesses, it would help the entire country on the path of growth.

Additionally, the growth of enterprises and industries depends on creatively solving the problems of electric power, fuel energy, road infrastructure and security challenges.”

According to her, the UK has a system that allows small businesses to breathe, something the President could borrow from.

Balogun said: “A nation’s macro-economic growth and development are based on the health of the micro-economic businesses of ordinary people running small businesses. We implore the President to look at the various conditions under which these businesses operate. He must specially focus on the area of taxation for small businesses. Here in England, if your business’s income is not up to a certain benchmark, your responsibility to the government becomes reduced.”

Additionally, she suggested that the country must urgently seek ways for the diversification of its economy from oil into other areas like agriculture, mining, tourism and information technology.

Yoruba Union, Igbinmọ Majekobaje Ilẹ-Yoruba, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign following the recent increase in fuel prices and the escalating hunger affecting the southwest region and Nigeria at large.



The union expressed deep concern about his administration’s economic policies have forced people into poverty, turning many into beggars.



It condemned the implementation of IMF policies in collaboration with imperialist forces, which they claim has stifled both small and large-scale businesses, to the detriment of the Yoruba people.



In a statement released on Sunday by the Convener, Olusola Oluwaseyi Badero, the union condemned the government for allowing the fuel pump price to rise from ₦600 to ₦900, at a time when many Nigerians cannot afford two basic meals a day.



He explained that the Yoruba, known for their culture of Omoluabi (honour and integrity), have been reduced to begging due to President Tinubu's anti-people policies.



“We are not only calling for Tinubu's resignation, but we also demand an apology to the Yoruba people for tarnishing their reputation. Our people have been kidnapped and killed by invaders, while they are now unable to farm or secure their livelihoods,” Badero stated.



He said, “Despite the suffering of his people, Tinubu has shown no remorse. Instead, he continues to increase their hardships through higher taxes and draconian policies.”



Badero recalled that during his campaign in Ogun State, Tinubu promised to reduce the fuel price. However, shortly after his inauguration, he raised the price without consulting the people.



He said, "Tinubu has run out of ideas and should resign honorably. Nigeria is not a family business where he can raise prices at will. Our people are struggling to send their children to school, and with a bag of rice now costing ₦80,000, many families cannot even afford basic meals. Most southwestern states have not even implemented the new minimum wage."



The organisation declared that it would not sit idly and watch Yoruba people suffer, even if a fellow Yoruba man holds the presidency.



It said, “We are known as Omoluabi—a people of honour. We will not tolerate anyone who dishonours the Yoruba nation by subjecting our people to modern-day slavery.



“Tinubu asks for patience, yet he has purchased a new presidential jet for ₦150 billion, luxury yacht, bulletproof Escalades, and a mansion for the Vice President—all in one year. Meanwhile, he raised the fuel price and enacted policies that further impoverish the people."



The union also called on all Yoruba people across Nigeria to join the October protests and legally express their dissatisfaction with Tinubu's administration.



“We must not allow Tinubu’s government to intimidate us. Protesting is our constitutional right and cannot be taken away,” it said.



Badero added that the Tinubu administration has failed the people, and the Yoruba Union is ready to protect the interests of the Yoruba, who have been oppressed by the current government.



In the wake of the recently concluded #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protests, which swept across the nation from August 1 to 10, 2024, organisers are gearing up for another round of demonstrations slated for October called ‘Fearless in October’ protests.



This forthcoming wave of protests aims to sustain the momentum generated by the previous movement, further amplifying the voices of Nigerians demanding meaningful change.



Damilare Adenola, Director of Mobilisation for the Take It Back Movement, a key force behind the protests, has corroborated plans for the October demonstrations.
