Everybody that owns land in Lagos knows their individual land and no body is dragging it with them. It only those from Ogun and Osun state that do not have a piece of land in Lagos that always make noise, Lagos this and Lagos that all the time.
LifestyleTonite:
The Lagos that Tea lump poo built. grin

Lagos got blessed right from when God created the earth. That's why it attracts development from all over the world.

Other lands also got blessed but their leaders, who are blind bats, have not been able to see the blessing and take advantage of it. The citizens of such lands would rather call Lagos a no man's land to console themselves; as if the land will automatically become no man's land if they continue to regurgitate such.

Yoruba Union Calls For Tinubu’s Resignation, Solicits Support For ‘Fearless In October’ Protests Over Hardship, Fuel Price Hike

The union expressed deep concern about his administration’s economic policies have forced people into poverty, turning many into beggars.

Yoruba Union, Igbinmọ Majekobaje Ilẹ-Yoruba, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign following the recent increase in fuel prices and the escalating hunger affecting the southwest region and Nigeria at large.

The union expressed deep concern about his administration’s economic policies have forced people into poverty, turning many into beggars.

It condemned the implementation of IMF policies in collaboration with imperialist forces, which they claim has stifled both small and large-scale businesses, to the detriment of the Yoruba people.

In a statement released on Sunday by the Convener, Olusola Oluwaseyi Badero, the union condemned the government for allowing the fuel pump price to rise from ₦600 to ₦900, at a time when many Nigerians cannot afford two basic meals a day.

He explained that the Yoruba, known for their culture of Omoluabi (honour and integrity), have been reduced to begging due to President Tinubu's anti-people policies.

“We are not only calling for Tinubu's resignation, but we also demand an apology to the Yoruba people for tarnishing their reputation. Our people have been kidnapped and killed by invaders, while they are now unable to farm or secure their livelihoods,” Badero stated.

He said, “Despite the suffering of his people, Tinubu has shown no remorse. Instead, he continues to increase their hardships through higher taxes and draconian policies.”

Badero recalled that during his campaign in Ogun State, Tinubu promised to reduce the fuel price. However, shortly after his inauguration, he raised the price without consulting the people.

He said, "Tinubu has run out of ideas and should resign honorably. Nigeria is not a family business where he can raise prices at will. Our people are struggling to send their children to school, and with a bag of rice now costing ₦80,000, many families cannot even afford basic meals. Most southwestern states have not even implemented the new minimum wage."

The organisation declared that it would not sit idly and watch Yoruba people suffer, even if a fellow Yoruba man holds the presidency.

It said, “We are known as Omoluabi—a people of honour. We will not tolerate anyone who dishonours the Yoruba nation by subjecting our people to modern-day slavery.

“Tinubu asks for patience, yet he has purchased a new presidential jet for ₦150 billion, luxury yacht, bulletproof Escalades, and a mansion for the Vice President—all in one year. Meanwhile, he raised the fuel price and enacted policies that further impoverish the people."

The union also called on all Yoruba people across Nigeria to join the October protests and legally express their dissatisfaction with Tinubu's administration.

“We must not allow Tinubu’s government to intimidate us. Protesting is our constitutional right and cannot be taken away,” it said.

Badero added that the Tinubu administration has failed the people, and the Yoruba Union is ready to protect the interests of the Yoruba, who have been oppressed by the current government.

In the wake of the recently concluded #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protests, which swept across the nation from August 1 to 10, 2024, organisers are gearing up for another round of demonstrations slated for October called ‘Fearless in October’ protests.

This forthcoming wave of protests aims to sustain the momentum generated by the previous movement, further amplifying the voices of Nigerians demanding meaningful change.

Damilare Adenola, Director of Mobilisation for the Take It Back Movement, a key force behind the protests, has corroborated plans for the October demonstrations.

According to Adenola, the upcoming protests will build upon the successes and lessons gleaned from the August protests, seeking to intensify pressure on the government to address the country's pressing challenges and usher in an era

…Say we can’t sell our goods below cost price ■ Advise government on way out

By Christy Anyanwu, Olakunle Olafioye, Praise Odhegba and Damilare Omotosho

The significant increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petrol, which saw the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), raising it from about N568 to N855 per litre may have made nonsense of the ultimatum given to market associations and traders across the country to crash the prices of foodstuff by 50 per cent within one month.

President Tinubu
With the latest fuel price increment, the cost of transporting foodstuffs from the nation’s farming hinterlands across the country to the urban centres in state capitals and other major towns has equally gone up.

Also, the continuous loss of value of the Naira against the United States dollar and other international trade currencies, according to market leaders in Lagos State, have contributed to the increase in foodstuff prices.

They equally believe that the combination of armed herdsmen’s kidnapping activities and destruction of cultivated crops by herds of cattle in farming communities had also led to reduction in the tonnage of farm produce, thereby making farmers sell at higher prices to bulk buyers, who constitute the primary link between the farmers and major distributors in markets across the country.

In summary, they identified the reasons prices of staple foods have remained high as rising naira-dollar rate, high cost of transportation and endless extortions of transporters by security operatives on the highways.

Lambasting the government for playing politics with the issue of rice cultivation in the country, a rice dealer, Mrs Augusta Mba told Sunday Sun: “More than 90 per cent of the rice the people eat in Lagos is foreign rice because we rarely get to see the local rice the government often claims it is investing on. And since the one available is imported and paid for in foreign currency and not in naira, there is no way anyone should expect its price to fall while the foreign exchange rate remains high.

“It is only from the new media that we hear about local rice from news media, but never see the rice in commercial quantity in real life. So, the price of rice will be high for some time until the naira regains value against the US dollar.

“The government should stop the politics over local rice production in Nigeria, which started during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari, when we were deceived with the fake local rice pyramid in Abuja.”

Besides high foreign exchange rate, rice dealers also complained about high cost of transportation occasioned by the astronomical increase in fuel price, a fallout of the removal of subsidy on fuel by the current administration and endless extortions by security agents along major roads. “Before the government announced the withdrawal of subsidy on fuel, the average cost of transporting a bag of rice was between N500 and N1,000 depending on the distance, but now we spend N2,000 up to N3,500 per bag on transportation.

“Again, all forms of uniformed government agents also demand to be settled before you would be allowed to go with your goods even when the goods have reached the town. This will definitely be transferred to the consumers in form of higher prices,” she said.

Expressing similar feelings about the ultimatum issued by the Federal Competitions and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to traders to crash the prices of foodstuff within 30 days, a leading sub-distributor of imported food products at the newly reconstructed Irepodun Market, Ikotun, which is managed by a private developer under a concession agreement with the Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area, who owns three shops combined into one, Alhaja Fausat Morenike Adeleke, fumed when Sunday Sun sought her views.

She said: “Sometimes I wonder about these people in government. Abi their head correct so? So, they expect that a trader who buys goods at high price will sell at a lower price? Where will this happen? Anyway, they talked that one for talking sake. Let them come inside the market to tell us so. Nonsense!”

In the open space close to the bulk foodstuff section of the market, on Wednesday morning, several muscular young men from the northern parts were scurrying about to unload cargoes of rice, beans, yams, ginger and tomatoes from five trailer-trucks that arrived the market in the night.

From her shop, Mrs Funmilayo Martins, who sells imported and locally produced vegetable oil and other food condiments, observed the frenetic pace at which the young men went about their work. Catching sight this reporter, who approached her shop, she shifted her gaze and paid attention.

But her countenance changed when asked about the FCCPC ultimatum.

With anger written all over her face, she spat out: “Let the Federal Government open their own bulk market like Lagos government has done and sell to ordinary people at lower prices. That is what they should do with the billions they have been claiming to be giving to poor people. They should just leave us alone.

“We are struggling to survive and then government increases the price of petrol again. Do they want our blood too?”

Another of the worst affected basic food items in terms of astronomical price hike is beans.

Findings by Sunday Sun revealed that the price of beans increased by over 800 per cent within the space of one year and dealers are not expecting any miraculous crash in the price of this staple food any time soon.

A trader, Haruna, at the popular Ile-Epo Market in Oke-Odo LCDA of Alimosho, blamed a number of factors for the exorbitant hike in the price of beans. He noted that beans, being one of the last food crops to be harvested in the country, is often the worst hit by the activity of herders who often invade farmlands especially during dry season to graze their herds.

Haruna also identified high cost of agricultural inputs, which he said, has forced many beans producers to increase the market price of the commodity.

But beyond these two reasons, the majority of beans farmers are more interested in exporting their produce than selling it in the country.

“Since naira was devalued, a good number of beans farmers now prefer to export their produce than sell it in the country. So this has made beans very scarce and costly now,” he revealed.

Meanwhile, the prices of some food items have considerably crashed in the last few weeks.

These items include pepper, tomatoes, cassava flakes and yam, which traders predicted could crash further as their harvest peaks.

The Oyingbo Market is a bustling foodstuff distribution hub for rice and other grains, stockfish, dried fished, Ogbono, Egusi, snails, among other staples which are sold in bulk.

The daughter of the Iya Oloja (female leader of the market), who requested not be identified, contended that it was unfair for the FCCPC to blame traders for the high price of foodstuff, arguing that they could not be reasonably expected to sell their goods at below purchase price.

She said that the traders sell according to the prices given to them by bulk suppliers.

“The suppliers keep complaining about the high cost of transporting goods to our market. That is a huge problem. We do not want to drive away customers. We want to sell our goods, but we cannot sell at below our cost price.

“For instance, I sell bitter kola, I bought a bag for N250,000 last month and just last week I bought a bag for N300,000. If I should go back next week I’m very sure the price would go up because of the recent increase in the pump price of petrol. Everyone is aware that cost of transportation is very high.

“The fact is that our leaders should do something to help us to reduce the cost of living in Nigeria and alleviate our suffering,” she said.

In the Kajola area of Ibeju Lekki, Kunle Ojo sells foodstuff.

Despite the fact that the FCCPC ultimatum regarding food prices went viral on social media and was broadcast on the regular radio and television news programmes, Ojo told Sunday Sun that he did not know about it.

The ultimatum, he told Sunday Sun, has not had any effect on the prices of foodstuff.

He said: “I haven’t noticed any crash in prices of foodstuff. In fact, this last Monday I went to the market to buy foodstuff to stock up my shop. The price of everything has increased either a little or by a mile. Especially, those things that we buy in bulk, like rice and garri.

“Nothing has changed for us here. A 50Kg bag of rice has gone from N70,000 to N85,000; 50Kg bag of beans has risen to N140,000 from N120,000, and so on. So, when the government ordered that traders should reduce the prices of foodstuff, are we going to sell our good below cost price?

“Is anybody like Father Christmas? If the government wants prices to drop, then it should subsidize the price of petrol, remove all the unnecessary checkpoints that take money from transporters.

“I heard that the government said prices of goods are dropping. I cannot see the reasons the government said so. Maybe the government is trying to give people hope. But it is false hope, lies, the reality here is very different. Everything is still costly. If there’s any reduction, it’s not reaching the common people.

“Anyway, I will only believe when I can go to the market and buy everything on my list at lower prices than I did the last time I went to restock my shop. That will surely convince me. Especially all those bags of rice, garri and beans that we buy now at high prices”

Just like Ojo, Mrs Chidinma Okafor, who runs a foodstuff shop in Imaletealafia market, Ibeju-Lekki, where she sells rice and beans, among other food items, when asked about the government’s news report, she similarly expressed surprise about it like Ojo, saying: “I haven’t heard of such a thing. Prices dropping? How? Maybe it is in another market, not here in this market. Here, things are even more expensive. I sell rice, beans, and garri. Every week, when I go to buy from the wholesalers, prices either stay the same or go up. Just last week, the price of a bag of rice went up again. This announcement, I don’t know where they’re seeing it from.”

A trader from the northern part of the country, Musa, who also has a medium size foodstuff shop in Bogije, Ibeju-Lekki, equally said that prices were not dropping to what the government had announced to back up its ultimatum to traders.

“I haven’t noticed any significant change. I didn’t even hear about this announcement until you mentioned it. If there are changes, they are not noticeable for basic things like rice, beans, and bread. It is only yams that I am aware of that are now slightly cheaper than they were two months ago. But I wouldn’t say that is a major drop. It’s just one or two things, and you know, yams aren’t something you buy everyday, plus maybe it’s just that particular market that I went to. As for the other essential things, they are still very expensive.”

The same refrain was heard at Karambar Restaurant at Imalete, Ibeju-Lekki, where the male owner confirmed hearing about the government’s claim of prices of foodstuff dropping, but expressed reservation about the claim.

He said: “Yes, I heard it on the news, but I haven’t really seen any significant change. I still have to budget carefully to manage my restaurant’s expenses. Maybe tomatoes and some seasonal vegetables are a bit cheaper, but it’s not enough to make a big difference. Prices for items like cooking oil, chicken, and rice are still very high. The price of chicken just recently went up to N6,500 from N4,500, which was I used to buy it.”

Demoslik Melody Store located along the Akesan-Obadore road, off the LASU-Iba dual carriageway is a go-to place for foodstuff purchases.

The owner who refused to disclose his name, said that he was not aware of the ultimatum, but stressed that it would not matter even if he had known about it, contending that it was irresponsible and insensitive of the government to expect traders to sell goods bought at high price at lower prices.

He, however, conceded that the prices of some items, such as beans and garri had insignificantly reduced in price just before the latest increase in the pump price of petrol.

He expressed concern that by the time he goes back to restock, the fresh increase in transportation would also make the price go up again.

Similarly, at Affordable Superstore, located along the Akesan/Obadore road, which stocks foodstuff, the owner of the shop, a matronly looking woman said that she was unaware of the ultimatum, but had resigned herself to the daily increase in prices of foodstuff.

With the new petrol price , the continuing fall of the naira and other factors, she said that prices would rise further .

What do you mean by company will be able to claim their VAT back? Please stop misinforming people, how can company claim VAT back when it is not their money or expenses? VAT is a form of tax, sellers of goods and services collect form their customers on behalf of government. E.g if a company is selling their products #100 and vat rate is 10% the company will charge their customers #110 and pay government the #10 ontop. There is no way the company can claim it back becauseit is not their money.
1Hover1:
The thing is that most people commenting here have not and did not watch the interview before commenting.

If they did, they would see that VAT is not increasing for EVERYTHING, in fact, essential items bordering on food, health, housing, education and transport will have VAT removed totally (which is the area that affects the greater number of Nigerians). An example he gave was that, how many Nigerians do buy a new car...these are the kind of items that will see VAT rise to 10%.

Companies with earnings bellow 50 million will be able to claim back VAT expenses.

Sure it's still a proposal which came about after consultations with interest groups. People can still make thir contributions before it is passed.

“Your Influence Ends in Lagos” – Edo Market Women Warn Tinubu’s Daughter Over Pressure to Vote APC
newsdirect.ngSep 3, 2024 8:24 AM

Market women associations across Edo have rejected pressure from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its allies, including Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, daughter of President Bola Tinubu to vote for the party in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

The market women have publicly stated their resolve to vote for Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.

Tinubu-Ojo, who has been trying to extend her influence beyond Lagos State, has reportedly attempted to sway market women in Edo State to support the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

However, the market women of Edo State have decisively pushed back against these efforts.

“We want to make it clear that Folashade Tinubu-Ojo’s influence ends in Lagos.

“We are not influenced by the politics of Lagos. Our decision to support Asue Ighodalo is based on what we believe is best for our community, not on any external pressures, ” a key leader of the market women in Benin City declared.

She added: “We are not just a voting bloc to be manipulated. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo may be influential in Lagos, but she does not represent us. We know what is best for our state and our markets, and that is why we are supporting Asue Ighodalo.”

The APC’s strategy to win over the market women has included promises and incentives, but they have been met with resistance.

“We are tired of being used as pawns in political games,” stated Mrs. Rose Akins from Auchi.

“Our choice is for candidates who will truly work for our welfare, not those who are backed by outsiders with no real understanding of our daily lives,” she stated.

Experts say as the election approaches, the market women’s resolve could play a crucial role in shaping the outcome and influencing the political narrative in Edo State.

“Their rejection of Tinubu-Ojo shows their right to self-determination in the electoral process.

“Their clear message to Tinubu-Ojo and the APC reflects a strong desire for autonomy and fair representation in the electoral process,” political analyst, Tony Ede, wrote on Facebook.

Lagos Computer Village traders issue cease and desist to Folashade Tinubu-Ojo over imposition of levies

The Incorporated Trustees of Computer Village Market Traders and Stakeholders Joint Management, representing a coalition of market associations within the Computer Village, Ikeja, have issued a cease and desist notice to the Iyaloja-General of Lagos, Mrs. Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, over an alleged imposition of levies on the market.

The notice dated August 28, 2024, a copy of which was seen by Nairametrics, was formally served by Falana and Falana’s Chambers on behalf of the association.

The legal notice addresses multiple grievances that the traders have against Mrs. Tinubu-Ojo, who is President Bola Tinubu’s daughter, particularly her alleged involvement in the unlawful collection of levies and disruption of market activities through the use of thugs.

According to the notice, this was despite a previous court ruling restraining her from such activities, the traders allege that she has continued to meddle in their operations, causing significant disruptions.

Background and allegations

The Incorporated Trustees of Computer Village Market Traders and Stakeholders Joint Management is a legally registered entity under Part “C” of the Company and Allied Matters Act. The association comprises several groups, including the Phone and Allied Products Dealers Association of Nigeria (PAPDA), the Computer and Allied Products Dealers Association (COMTEAN), and the Association of Mobile Communication Devices Engineers and Technicians (AMCODET), among others.

According to the letter, the traders secured a favourable ruling from an Ikeja High Court in December 2020 under Suit No. ID/9039MFHR/19.

The court order permanently restrained Tinubu-Ojo and her agents from imposing and collecting any levies within Computer Village, citing a lack of legal basis for such actions.
Despite this ruling, the traders claim that Tinubu-Ojo has continued to engage in actions that infringe on their rights.

These actions allegedly include instigating thugs to disrupt lawful gatherings and pressuring the traders’ business partners to make payments directly to her.

“Our client is not unaware that you have contacted our client’s several partners to make their commitments to you.

“We have instructions to warn against any further demand or communication to our client’s partners including but not limited to Oppo, Proview, Samsung, Big and Bold et al because the commodity association of the Women and Men Market Association which is the basis of your appointment by the Lagos State Government has no membership in Computer Village,” the notice signed by Taiwo Olawanle and Adebayo Oniyelu of Falana and Falana’s Chambers read in part.

The traders have also raised concerns about Mrs. Abisola Azeez, who was appointed as the Iyaloja of Computer Village under Tinubu-Ojo’s sanction. The traders assert that Mrs. Azeez has no shop or stake in Computer Village, further questioning the legitimacy of her role.

Legal implications

The notice draws attention to the limitations of Tinubu-Ojo’s powers under the Lagos State Market Advisory Council Law.

It notes that the law, particularly under Section 8, does not grant her the authority to collect levies or interfere in the internal affairs of markets such as Computer Village.

The traders argue that even if her office had such powers, Computer Village is not covered under the referenced law.

Falana and Falana’s Chambers, on behalf of the traders, warned Tinubu-Ojo against any further interference, emphasizing that continued violations will result in the pursuit of all available legal remedies, including claims for costs incurred.

What you should know

This development marks the latest chapter in the ongoing struggle for control over one of Lagos State’s most significant commercial hubs.

The market traders had vehemently kicked against the appointment of an Iyaloja for them in 2019. According to them, the technological and commercial hub had been regulated by the Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation, and no Iyaoloja was needed to regulate their activities.

They also argued that the Computer Village is a modern market and there was no relationship between technology and traditionalists. However, the appointment was not rescinded.

The Computer Village is adjudged as the largest ICT market in West Africa and adds over N300 billion to the economy yearly.

Hunger Protests: Atiku Reports Tinubu To UN And ICC Over Killings Of Unarmed Protesters

Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar in a strongly worded response to the killings of unarmed protesters across the country has reported President Bola Tinubu to the United Nations and the International Criminal Court or ICC and asked them to immediately monitor the situation in order to step in.

This followed actions of armed policemen alongside operatives of the DSS, who on Saturday opened fire on innocent protesters in Abuja killing an innocent teenager, who was not partaking in the hunger strike in Kubwa while a police man was accused of pointing a gun at another teenage boy in the same place.

Also, security agencies stormed the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Saturday to force out unarmed protesters from the stadium shooting love bullets at them, shattering a car of one of the journalists from Premium Times.

Journalists were also shot at as were protesters, forcing them to run for cover.

Similarly, there were ugly scenes in Kano where police opened fire on unarmed protesters forcing them to scamper for safety.

All across the country, there have been tales of woes as the protest which began on Thursday entered the third day in a bloody fashion.

Journalists have been hounded, tear gassed, kicked and bundled into police vehicles to unknown locations in places like Calabar, Cross River State, Yobe, Delta, Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna, Adamawa, Lagos, Rivers in what human rights groups such as Amnesty International, HURIWA, religious groups have condemned as amounting to use of excessive force.

Atiku “vehemently condemned” what he called “heinous act of using live ammunition” on citizens peacefully protesting against bad governance.

Eyewitnesses and video evidence showed police in full battle gear descending on unarmed protesters including women with babies in places like Plateau where a nursing mother was reportedly arrested.

Atiku described the situation as “utterly intolerable” which he said is “reminiscent of the dark days of military dictatorship.”

The former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party or PDP noted that it is crucial to remind the government and security agencies of their paramount duty to ensure a safe and secure environment where citizens can exercise their right to protest without fear.

“When security forces open fire on innocent protesters,” he said “they do nothing but exacerbate tensions, transforming peaceful demonstrations into chaos.

“I refuse to believe that inciting violence is the intention of our authorities,” Atiku stated.

He urged “the international community, including the United Nations and the International Criminal Court, to closely monitor the situation in Nigeria and hold its leadership and security apparatus accountable.”

He reaffirmed his “counsel to protesters to steadfastly exercise their right to peaceful protest and reject any form of violence.”

Those engaging in looting and the destruction of public and private property he said must be isolated and prosecuted according to the law.

By indulging in such acts, Atiku said they undermine the legitimate protests and play into the hands of those who oppose their right to protest.

President Tinubu, the former vice president said “must demonstrate true leadership by immediately addressing and implementing the demands of the Nigerian people.”

Amid the ongoing excessive use of force, the president has announced he would be making a national address on Sunday morning…CONTINUE READING>>

Nigeria would’ve progressed beyond all these nonsense if not for a particular evil group of people.

These evil people are the ones who ganged up against GEJ for selfish heinous reasons.

To show you how evil they are, they sang Buhari’s praises for 8 years while he destroyed the country, but then betrayed him immediately he left office

These people are dangerous. They will smile and propose friendship to you but stab you right in back once you turn around

They claim to love the country they’re destroying, that’s why they’re called fake lovers of Nigeria

Lagos natives write Sanwo-Olu on details of Dangote’s $100m purchase of 7,000 acres of land

De Renaissance Patriots Foundation, a Lagos State socio-cultural organisation, has written to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, following recent revelations by President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, requesting details and to clear the air on issues surrounding the land Africa’s richest man used to build refinery in the state.

Leaders of the group are demanding explanation from the governor on who received the money, through whose account and how the funds were expended.

According to the group, over 7,000 acres of land was taken from Lagos natives in the Ibeju-Lekki areas without compensation to the people, adding that before Dangote’s recent expose, the narrative pushed to the natives and the public was that the land was given to the industrialist by previous administration at no cost to attract the massive refinery project to the state.

In the letter jointly signed by the group’s President, Prince Adelani Adeniji-Adele (who died on Friday, August 2), and Secretary General, Mr. Yomi Tokosi, dated Monday July 29, De Renaissance Patriots Foundation requested Governor Sanwo-Olu to provide clarifications on the alleged $100 million transaction involving purchase of the 7,000 acres of land by the Dangote Refinery.

The group expressed concerns over the lack of awareness and benefits from the alleged $100 million transaction, particularly for the host communities in Ibeju/Lekki, which reportedly have not received compensation or basic amenities.

Citing sections of the Freedom of Information Act, 2011, De Renaissance Patriots Foundation demanded detailed information on the transaction, including the account used to receive the money and how the funds were expended.

It wrote: “Alhaji Aliko Dangote on the 21st day of July, 2024 claimed in one of his broadcast that he purchased the about 7000 acres of land he used for his refinery from Lagos State Government and that he purchased the land for 100,000,000:00 (One Hundred Million) USD.

“De RENNAISANCE PATRIOTS FOUNDATION is bewildered on why the notice of the purchase was not brought to the attention of government and how the money was expended without the members of the public being carried along or benefitting from it particularly the host communities in Ibeju-Lekki.

“As at press time, communities in Ibeju-Lekki were not known to have been paid compensation or provided with basic social amenities from the alleged 100,000,000:00USD (One Hundred Million United States Dollars) as claimed by Dangote.

“On the basis of the foregoing, we hereby demand information of the allegation and detailed information on how the money was expended and the account that was used to receive the money.

“Sir, Section 4 (a) of the Freedom of Information Act, 2011 provides that;
Where information is applied for under this Act, the public institution to which the application is made shall, subject to sections 6, 7, and 8 of this Act within (7) days after the application is received make the information available to the Applicant.

“Section 7 of the Freedom of Information Act, 2011 provides as follows; (1)
Where the government or public institution fails to give access to a record or information applied for under this Act, or a part thereof, the institution shall state in the notice given to the Applicant the grounds for the refusal, the specific provision of this Act that it relates to and that the applicant has a right to challenge the decision refusing access and have it reviewed by a court.

“(4) Where the government or public institution fails to give access to information or record applied for under this Act or part thereof within the time set out in this Act, the institution shall for the purposes of this Act be deemed to have refused to give access.”

They called for a response within seven days and warned that failure to comply would result in approaching the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) or seeking an Order of Mandamus in court against the state government.
