Team Agent arranged a work visa for me. grin

Please do your research about work visas and working in the US, even with a bachelor's degree from your home country.

Wow.. I didn’t know this. Please is there any thread on nairaland on USA work visa ?

must you japa with study route Are there not people with 9ja degrees working in top companies in UK, USA,Australia, Canada?

The study route is the only route I know. The work route these days is already scam enough. They’ll dupe one of his life savings with the disguise of helping to get a work visa

bro advise me on what to do, I have been denied 3 times for b1/b2 visa, 2008 denied 2 time, 2015 denied again, then I want to attend again with same conference too, please what will I do ?

The same conference you attended with in 2008?
Do you want to use the conference route to japa? If yes, why don’t you use the PhD route instead assuming you’re in the academia and you have a masters degree

There is this belief that the route to work authorisation into the US labour market is straightforward and automatic just because one studied at and graduated from an institution in the US. That belief is entirely false. It is not automatic neither is it straightforward. The aim is to gain work authorisation into the US labour market, which is what the NIW is for. It is your responsibility to go through its requirements.

Moving from the UK as a FOREIGN graduate to work in the US is the same if you were in Nigeria and the same for British citizens. There is no automatic route. The NIW is the preferred route. It might be faster in the UK, but the process is the same.

The route to work authorisation isn’t straightforward like u said. Most people’s option is to do the 3yrs STEM OPT, which is a guaranteed work authorisation on its own , and either leave the country or find another way. Indians use this route and work and raise money for three years, pay the loan they borrow to get their masters degree, and some eventually leave the US with the remaining of their savings, as we all know H1B is more like a scam..

Pls o, what does NIW stand for?

National interest waiver. You can basically file for US green card yourself these days and get a green card from Nigeria and then transit to the US

Don't bother with Germany except you want to leave Nigeria 2027 or 2028 especially if you didn't graduate with first class in the last two years. If you get a scholarship in the US and a visa go and start working on the NIW immediately you land.

I heard people going for a PhD in Germany are treated the same way with a priority visa appointment date as a first class graduate

Gerrard59:

If your sponsors aren't very rich, it is pointless to study in the US. Better seek full funding from the department. Alternatively, if you have a BSc and five year work experience or BSc&MSc, apply for NIW. Studying in the US doesn't translate to the right to work in the country as that route is lottery dependent. Your target should be to gain the right to work in the US rather than study. Once that right is achieved, you play the long game to permanent residency and eventual citizenship.

Thank you Gerrard59, your contributions on this website are very very insightful always. Yes, the eventual goal is to get citizenship. And it’s scary looking at the tuition fee charged by my school. No one will give me such kind of money. The National interest waiver option is one ive been looking at for a long time since I actually have a masters degree. However, I discouraged myself because I thought one cannot file outside of the US, but now I know better.

I’m looking at relatively cheap schools in Western Europe countries like Germany etc. My potentials are getting wasted and time is going Gerrrard, yeah time is going

Better pay it now o. By next year e fit be 4 million. You think tinubu is joking with you.

That’s 952k paid in a total of a day.. damn! Individual still needs to hustle POF. Most school you pay around 12 to 20k per semester.

Earlier today, I wanted to pay SEVIS fee to process my an admission into an American school. And I saw that the SEVIS fee is now #619,850. The visa fee for the F-1 category is now #333,000 (this was just #67000 two years ago). This doesn’t guarantee visa o as you still need to have sufficient fund to show them at the embassy. Some schools charge as high as $30,000 for a year.

I’m tired . I really am

Sometimes the way some of you just open mouth waaa and vomit nonsense on this forum baffles me.

Even those with high paying salaries are complaining of the high cost of living. Some even stay in the office and go home on weekends.

Not true. Everything na propaganda. Nigerians just lobe to complain. Despite how cheap things are in this country compare to everywhere else in the world, we still complain. Free education, less tax, we don’t pay for light, very low cost of living etc

Theres not much to lose. I would advise you do some preliminary findings though. Join gabonese groups on facebook and seek information. Check their job boards, check school websites and mail the proprietors or connect to them on linkedin. Ask to know what prospects you have with your qualifications and experience.

Look out for other nigerians in Gabon or anyone who can receive you and show you around town for your first few weeks. Look for churhces there as well and connect. Finally, you should definitely have an exit strategy if things do not work out as planned.

This way your risk is calculated. Good luck

What a sound advice!! No doubt, some Nigerians in this forum are good people

Am already in US since two years. Just want my new spouse to join me but currently my documentation in the embassy still bears the name of my ex. That is why I am asking if I should write to the embassy with the divorce papers or move directly to retrieve my old ds 160 and change it without their consent (if it is possible bc I haven't tried retrieving ds 160 before)

document

But less than one year ago, you were on this group asking about admission and attending your own F1 visa interview.. what’s the issue?

PhD are usually not regular admissions.
You technically must have been offered a place by the principal investigator/researcher before applying to a university.

Visit universities websites, search for ongoing projects in the different departments and institutes, if any of them arouses your interest, send an unsolicited cover letter, proposal in relation to the field (a cold email).

Other ways include following researchers in your field of interest in LinkedIn, X. Visit alumni pages on these platforms, industries in these areas and other sources.

Some edu sites like PhD portals work too but chances are that, there a few or already places before advertising.

For your last point, do you mean that these advertised openings might’ve been internally occupied sometimes before they even advertised them ? So, it might be useful sometimes to send unsolicited email to these PIs to see whether they can somehow fit you in their project?

And also what about someone going for a masters degree? With or without funding

It’s not uncommon to do everything right and still see your woman cheating on you with someone that doesn’t even do as much .

If you’re a man and you find yourself in such shoe, here are tips to salvage the situation and reclaim your woman’s love;

- talk to the guy she's cheating on you with. Beg him. Most times, it's the other guys that can't just let her be. Don't forget to tell him how much she mean to u

- check whether you've done anything wrong and tender ur apology to her.

- some women won't tell you what you did wrong, so they resort to cheating. Ask her what ur offence is tahr made her cheat. Fix things!

- u can also tell the guy she's cheating on you with that this is the girl u want to marry.
Unless he lacks conscience, he'll definitely leave

Yes. By the way, PhDs are largely funded.

Yeah but you can only get it if they advertise the project..without projects there’s no funding
