Politics / Yoruba Must Reestablish Its Values System Earlier To Curb Prodigals by googi: 7:15pm On Sep 15, 2023
YORUBA MUST REESTABLISH ITS VALUES SYSTEM EARLIER TO CURB PRODIGALS

Nigerians have turned into a case study of how money could turn a rich country into abject poverty. The worship of money and greed for more without knowing what to do with it has made Nigerians the laughingstock of fellow Africans. Yet, we glorify ourselves as the most educated, richest and successful Blacks in foreign land.

It is actually authenticated and used against other Blacks by those who never wished Africa well in the first place. What they hide in the success of Nigerians abroad is that to live the same “comfortable” life their colleagues enjoy; they have two or three jobs with little time left for anything else. Even students have full time jobs. Those who die in the struggle, lose their wives and children to the system are unknown and forgotten.

Yoruba must be guided by their Value System from birth like ORIKI. According to the Yoruba values system: The first and most important is Wisdom, understanding and knowledge that grows with age and maturity, in normal circumstances. Known as Lakaye, Ogbon and Oye. This is the reason elders are respected as keepers of their cultural values. The vast knowledge found in IFA are specialities of different subjects from Philosophy, Religion, Mathematics, Astrology, Geography etc., collaborated by vast historiography of the Elders.

The second, no less important, is Character and Integrity, without which, whatever you accumulate is devalued. It is known as Iwa Omoluabi. This is not peculiar to the Yoruba alone as others have virtues in their cultures too. American Warren Buffett claimed he looked for certain qualities in his employees like intelligence and energy but without integrity, he did not bother with the other qualities.

The third in Yoruba values system is Valor, Bravery and Selflessness of those that can lead in case of attack on the culture, land or a war. This is known as Balogum Akinkanju that takes orders from the Oba. People need Generals to lead an Army in the time of war. Cowards are detestable folks among Yoruba. Even if their most respected Oba misbehaved, he is shown the calabash to commit suicide by Oyo Mesi his Cabinet (before the medieval times).

There may be some variations on the other hierarchy ladder in the values system because of different circumstances and environment in villages, towns and cities founded away from home in Ile-Ife as a result of war, competition for titles with industrious sons and daughters. Even a loafer without visible means of livelihood known as Alapamasise, a shame in Yoruba, may feel entitled solely based on birth. But Yoruba cautioned that the way free children are born are born, so is a slave.

It must be noted here that there are important traditional family Crown, Honor or Glory by birth juggling for positions within or after these values. They do not guarantee success if values are not adhered to. It is the reason Yoruba noted that there are commoners that have risen to the position of a king and kings that have been captured in wars: Iwofa to di Oba, oba to di iwofa! This happened in the days of wars and in today’s climate of political economy.

But those who lack integrity are bypassed in favor of astute blood and kin that can bear the worthy weight of the crown, glory or honor. The honor or glory may be reflected in the names like Ade, Oba or Ola and more. It is not unusual for people to assume or reject the names they were born into. It does not make you an incumbent Oba or traditional Chief. Though someone in your lineage could have been so honored.

People desire honors these days and seek awards to crown the achievements that a loafer cannot bear or shoulder. Once you are crowned or honored, known as Ade, Iyii, Ola or Ola pronounced differently in Yoruba and those other values have been accomplished, you do not have to be wealthy or rich to earn respect. There is no need to break your neck on a journey seeking wealth, if you have already been blessed with honor. Indeed, these honors are richer or heavier than wealth. Since they are not for the highest bidder.

Unfortunately, there are those who want some of these Yoruba values system bestowed on them because they possess the last quality in the Values System, which is Money. So, if you already have any of the above values, you do not need money. The reason is, those with money use it to pursue one or more of the Yoruba Values System. The reason wealth in Yoruba Values System is subordinate to more important qualities expected of human beings.

We have to search our conscience and stop denying the fact that any means by which we get rich, justify the end. All the casualties in misery and abject poverty, our reckless journey for money created, will catch up with the next generation. No matter how we try to erase the evil deeds on the way to riches, the poor children would haunt the children of the rich and innocent poor at home and live disdainfully abroad as lower castes.

When General Gowon said money was not Nigeria's problem but how to spend it. He could have been right if he was referring to money as the last in the Yoruba Values System. Usually, we want to make enough money for basic needs, savings for emergencies, school, retirement or old age. Paying for necessities like food, rent and other monthly bills first. What is left is discretionary income to blow. Nigeria, without discretionary income, blew off its basic needs.

However, Gowon was referring to the avalanche of Oil money that lured the Nigerian Market, into the most liberal market in the world. It was based on the euphoria of foreign income that gave us a false sense of security that we could import any junk we want including pins, pencils, used goods, and garbage from the high seas. Sadly, Nigerians laundered money recklessly outside as if they have discretionary income. By the time Shagari became the President, those who warned them on profligacy were pinpointed as Prophets of Doom.

Money does not have to be the root of all evil if we keep to our commitment to be well grounded within the system of check and balance. Most people use discretionary money to encourage goodwill while it is the temptation for others on how much they can push their power to control others. Problem starts when we accumulate additional money wondering what good or mischievous causes we can spend it on. General Gowon was right on the problem of how to spend unprecedented inflow of Oil Income after the 1972 Arab Oil Embargo

Indeed, the values of reckless behavior to riches would only earn prodigal sons and daughters, mirrors and pretty printed papers, in exchange for gold and modern slaves. A fool and his money would not only part, they would not know the difference between printed papers and their valuable resources, talents and natural endowment.

Africans still believe others can do for them what they cannot do for themselves. This is 2023 and some people are still dreaming.

Tinubu went to India, the next countries he will go to are in Europe and America. Obasanjo and Buhari jet out everyday claiming they are going to bring investors.

Meanwhile, 2 or 3 times the amount brought in are laundered out.

Emefiele financed investors with foreign reserve. Nigerians have gone deeper into abject poverty. Who in his right sense would borrow money at higher rates in developing countries, and make a profit at home.

Enough of these nonsense. Nigerians are improvising daily on many areas. Set up coordinating committees within them to buy and spread their initiations throughout the country.

Do not throw money at them only to cripple them with kickbacks.

Some anarchists and insurrectionists have lost their sense of reason and civilization.

Has what happened in Gabon ever happened in Nigeria?

Even Obasanjo, the most benevolent dictator Nigeria has ever produced was soundly rejected for a 3rd Term by his own ethnic group Vigorously.

Stop justifying threats, intimidation, force and uncivilized behavior wishing Nigeria would fall at your feet.

Old African cultures would demand a town meeting on the way forward and how to prevent others from falling into the same trap.

The root of all this is the obsession with money popularized by leaders reckless and conspicuous spending in the land of abject poverty.

The culture of money has never liberated anyone from the yolk and legacy of slavery.

UNIFICATION OF AFRICAN CURRENCIES WILL INCREASE ITS LOCAL VALUE

Africans traded with one another before the arrival of the Europeans. Trade by barter was the world's most common form of exchanging goods and services, locally and across the seas. Cowries replaced trade by barter. Later, coins and gold replaced cowries. The way to strengthen African currency is to increase its buying power within our big population. What we are doing right now is weakening each African currency with euro and US dollar exchange to trade with one another.

NIGER BEWARE: BARBARIAN INSURRECTIONISTS DISGUISE AS SAVIORS

The Niger military junta must be left guessing if ECOWA is going to invade or not. Right now, there are more African countries under civilian rule than military rule. Economic sanctions from each of them against Niger is more effective than war, but must always be an option on the table. War is less productive because it is a double edge sword. Any strong man, no matter how ambitious, should not impose his will on the whole country.

May African God forbid another proxy war in Africa generally and the Niger Republic in particular. ECOWA is struggling to find a solution to an age-old problem in African countries. There has been advice from different schools of thought on how best to handle the problem immediately. Whatever side you are on, the consensus should be discouraging the junta in Niger before this aberration of forced rule spreads to other African countries.

We were warned about the dangers of Communism and Capitalism which have been hijacked by those nationalists who appeal to our primordial instinct of greatness. They point to many discrepancies in society to justify their insatiable greed for power. It varies from immorality they themselves engage in, religious intolerance to anger against “lazy Youths”, the poor and those dispossessed getting a breathing chance called welfare.

Imperialism has no special doctrine order than their penchant to get cheap resources and labor. It is true that Russia has come to Africans’ side when fighting Western colonialism. But we must be careful when the same savor asks for a little less than a ton of flesh. We must keep our eyes open when crying. Nigeria asked Russia for the Ajaokuta Steel Plant because Western countries refused. The Steel Plant has been in a coma for about half a century!

The role of the ECOWA has been complicated by at least three countries backing the Coup plotters in Niger, lining up behind Russian support of coup plotters Putin discouraged at home. Soldiers know that they could not get elected to government by votes, so seized power to rule without knowing what they were getting into except to give orders as they do in uniform. African military promise what they are not trained for or know how to accomplish.

It should have downed on Africans that the Military has no magic wand to solve any problem, no matter how well intentioned they were, like when the Military first struck in Nigeria. Soldiers and Police are allowed to use force to subdue unruly elements in the society. Unfortunately, some of them become brutes. Like the Military juntas in Mali, Burkina Faso supporting Niger coup plotters. They divide themselves into regular Army and Presidential Personal Militia.

It is not that different from a country with the President's personal militia guards and the country's Army. This actually backfired against President Putin in Russia. In most societies, there are incongruous one third looking for a cause to champion and use to dominate the rest of the two third. Like the Europeans, soldiers succeed themselves, hand over to their preferred candidates or ethnic group when forced to, after destroying their own countries.

The spread of the greed for power and money grab into Africa consciousness, has devastated the developing prospects of Africa. They want to control every institution of government by their whims and caprices. While it is true that liberal democracy has been replaced by the hypocrisy we see in the Western world and rigging everywhere in the name of the people, the silent majority are still the sanest until they are pushed to the wall.

Surprisingly, this aberration to impinge on the freedom of ideas and votes have crept up into liberal democracy as well after rejecting their preference for democracy that represents the will of the people. Even the most powerful democracy is still fighting for its normal way of life after tolerating and electing a power hungry dictator like Germany's Hitler. They always start as little nuisance the silent majority ignore.

World autocracy, dictatorship and theocracy are the surreptitious powers used to enforce a greater grip on society in the name of the useful ignoramus demonstrating in their support; conveniently labeled “support of the masses” to reestablish kleptocracy and serfdom. They start as bodyguards, political thugs and vigilantes until they consider themselves strong enough to seize power.

These Barbarians are back in full gear around the world. Liberalism and Democracy are not working for them, so they grab the bull by the horns. They are militias creating mob actions, confronting migrants and enforcing sit-down at home orders not only at Capitol Hill in the United States but locally around the world.

Their goal is to capture as much as possible before the silent majority realize that they have been caught flat footed in their slumber. No matter what we think about the United States insurrectionists, their Election purged their "undesirables" and extremists that labeled those fighting for civility and their Human Rights extremists.

One of the common economic policies of the rich all over the world and Africa in particular is to pay as little back as they can: into the society, into the common purse as taxes. They pay little wages and raise the taxes paid by little people. Yet, the loudest cry comes from the rich about government spending on the poor, working and middle classes. More money must be left in the honeypot for them to steal. We call some of the Army Generals “militricians”.

Some are even activists at one point but once people start getting rich from favorable contracts, the excessive retail prices paid on food to medication by working and middle classes, they become rich conservatives hiding their profits offshore away from fellow Africans. Remember, only little people pay taxes for the benefit of the rich since they enjoy the little infrastructure and security officers more than the common man.

Sports / Unification Of African Currencies Will Increase Its Local Value by googi: 8:41pm On Jul 17, 2023

Illogically, we are making foreign currencies our common currency. Once we have our one currency, there will be an adjustment period since some countries think their currencies are worth more in value. This is based on the amount their currencies presently exchange for in overseas markets. If Western and Eastern Germany had relied on that notion, there would have been no currency unification there. Currency by itself has no value, it is only when price is put on goods and materials that we come up with currency worth.

People forget that American dollars became the dominant world currency as a means of exchange because Europeans, their cousins and financial partners transfer the power from Pounds to their Dollar. Before then, we had to labor hard to get cowries as the means of exchange for our goods and services. After cornering African gold into their vaults but could not get enough to back their currencies, gold standard was abandoned.

Western world started printing pretty papers without gold backing and made it available worldwide in exchange for their Treasuries, Futures, goods and services. Devaluation worked so well for China, Western countries cried foul! Countries devalue their own currencies to boost demand for locally manufactured goods and services. Reducing the cost of a country’s exports makes them more competitive on a global scale as a member of a trading block.

Imports become more expensive, discouraging consumers with foreign tastes. While Western countries may weaken or devalue their currencies slightly to boost their exports, African countries have no artificial or finished goods that are allowed to enter their markets except cheap raw materials which are sold at the price foreigners dictate.

Even when President Obama was able to allow some African products into the market, AGOA regulations only allow a few in. Indeed, most of the food products allowed into their market rot before clearance. This creates double losses of depriving African exporters of income and limiting available food at home; setting local food prices higher and unaffordable to the poor.

If Africans are forced to purchase goods domestically at a lower price, the increase in domestic spending is supposed to stimulate money circulation within one’s own economy. As exports begin to increase with local production of finished manufactured goods and services, there African and foreign markets to sell into. Due to cheaper prices at home for domestic consumers and high imports prices, it ultimately decreases trade deficits. Unfortunately, a country that shunned its domestic production in preference for foreign imports burns itself from both ends. https://corporatefinanceinstitute.com/resources/economics/devaluation/

If African countries had unified currencies and traded with one another primarily before outsiders, it would have been more difficult to pick on each country one by one to destroy our economy. The Western countries are even going further into social issues that are not acceptable in their own countries, threatening economic sanction unless they dictate to Africans who they can marry. We have to ask Africans after colonization, religious and cultural conquests, where does it end?

It was many years ago when the Nigerian pound and naira were traded in African countries and overseas. The Nigerian Government had to change its money by a certain date to discourage selling naira overseas. The big boys hurriedly brought back their naira into the country for exchange to the new notes. Before then, there was a Civil War, Nigeria did not have to borrow its way through. When Naira was introduced in 1973, it remained one to a dollar and a half US dollars.

Foreigners branded pop culture from Cliff Richard, Elvis Presley to Michael Jackson; cars, clothing and ammunition. It worked so well, even Japan became rich on automobile exports. The Asians who Americans thought could not make luxury cars came out with Acura, Infiniti, Lexus, Mazda, and Genesis worldwide. These are exports trading in American dollars. When the American Auto Workers revolted against Japanese made cars, Japan started building automobile plants in the United States blurring the preference for local and imported cars!

Divide and rule is not a new phenomenon, it has always been used to disrupt and gain upper economic advantageous relationships. Individual African currencies are not the exception. Every country in Africa has been manipulated through its currency. The only sin Zimbabwe committed was demand that promises after promises be kept on land reforms. The Zimbabwe dollar has become almost useless. Developing countries should not float their currencies https://hal.science/hal-02432744

Awards bestowed on Mugabe to postpone land reform could no longer work unless Mugabe wanted to risk the anger of his people. It is obvious that Western and Asian countries have dominated the exports of finished goods in artificially manufacturing goods like plastics, used goods and garbage into African countries. This enabled the Western world to determine how much to pay by manipulating exchange rates that put African currencies at the lowest trading currencies in the world.

Until the early 70s Oil Embargo, Africans had no say in the determination of prices of overseas goods and materials since foreigners also determine the prices of our goods and materials which they buy cheaply at any price they want. Consequently, with foreign currencies the flow of trade is limited within Africa and exploded with countries overseas whose currencies we use.

Unfortunately, covenants of goodwill play a crucial role on how labor, goods and material are determined in disadvantageous relationships between stronger and weaker partners. Kwame Nkrumah had tried Cocoa Embargo well before the Arabs, but it failed because some African and South American gave up. Embargo worked when the Arabs with a few developing countries held on and were able to determine the price of their natural resources.
