Frank condemns Shiites killing, says Buhari, Buratai must be tried for genocide

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Timi Frank, has called on all the international Human rights organisations to note the record of brutal killings, especially that of Shiites people under the current administration, saying President Muhammadu Buhari and his Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, must face trial after their stay in office.

Frank said contrary to the constitutional provision that security of lives and welfare shall be the responsibility of government, the current All Progressives Congress (APC) administration is encouraging its agents to cause the killing of the citizens.

Recall that on Sunday morning, the protesting Shiites and the Nigerian Army had clashed where some protesting Shiites members were brutally killed.

But while condemning soldiers deadly use of force on supporters of Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) during a religious procession in Zuba, near Abuja, Comrade Frank, in a statement on Monday, said under President Buhari the country has seen a sharp rise in the use of brute force by security agents to quail harmless demonstrators.

According to him, a country where the value of human lives continues to depreciate on a daily basis can only be referred to as a failed state.

The former APC spokesman said the continuing detention of Shia's leader,El-Zakzaky despite several Court orders is uncivilised by any leaders in the world.

"President Buhari-led administration have been releasing the dreaded Boko Baram jihadist under the guise of 'repentant terrorist' yet he does not see anything wrong in attacking the shia members who are peacefully clamouring for the release of their leader who the Court of law had set free.

"The disobedience of this administration to the decision of Court of law portents danger for the country's peace and orderliness.

"If ordinary citizens are being kill by the security agents under an elected democratic government in this manner, such h leader must be ready to be prosecuted for genocide after his short stay in power," Frank stated.

Continued, the outspoken former APC chieftain wondered "how can an army kill her armless citizens with live bullets? I will never support the idea that live bullets were used on the protesters. What manner of provocation will make them shoot unarmed citizens? Soldiers shooting and killing unarmed protesters is a crime against humanity."

While calling on international community to take note of the current development, Frank also called on Amnesty International (AI) and other rights protection international organizations not to close their eyes against the act of "killing innocent citizens for no just cause."

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says its Presidential primary and National Convention still hold on Friday October 5 to Saturday, October 6, 2018 as earlier scheduled.

In the same vein, the party’s governorship primary across the states of the federation holds on Wednesday, September 26, 2018.

This will be preceded by senatorial primary on Friday, September 28, while House of Representatives primary will hold on Sunday, September 30, 2018.

Nigerian senator jailed for fraud and money laundering has reportedly purchased the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination and expression of interest form to seek re-election.

Joshua Dariye, a former governor of Plateau State, is currently serving 14 years jail term at Kuje prisons, Abuja after found guilty of money laundering, breach of trust and criminal misappropriation.

According to reports, Joshua Dariye’s personal assistant Itauna Dinka obtained the nomination form for his principal’s re-election on Friday, September 7.

The senator was on 12 June sentenced to 16 years in prison by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Justice Adebukola Banjoko, who gave the ruling, held that the former governor would serve a two-year and 14-year jail terms concurrently but did not give him an option of a fine.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission charged Dariye with money laundering in 2007. He was accused of diverting N1.126bn from the Plateau government’s ecological funds through an account, Ebenezer Reitner Ventures, an unregistered company, he operated.

Punishments imposed on the ex-governor for the two categories of offences of criminal breach of trust and criminal misappropriation are the maximum as provided under sections 315 and 309 of the Penal Code Act, respectively.

The judge threw out eight of the 23 charges on the grounds of either duplicity or lack of sufficient evidence.

‎Lawyer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Mr Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), had in opposing the defence lawyer’s plea for mercy, urged the court to impose the maximum sentence to serve as deterrence to others.

In her ruling, Justice Banjoko said “I can’t imagine such a brazen act. Is it the transfer of as much as about half a billion naira from the state’s Ecological Fund into a personal venture account? Everybody is a victim here.”

She said from a random check of some documents tendered as exhibits, she discovered that “the defendant was, in fact, richer than his state.”

“This is a trauma of the trial; and there should be no compromise to corruption, by whatever shade or colour, or region, rich or poor; corruption will forever be corruption,”

“Every case is different on its own, and I have no personal animosity, I’m just doing my job the way I know how to, and not only the Ecological Funds were misappropriated, but funds from the Plateau State government.”

The judgment, which came at the end of about 10-year trial, saw over eight years of delay caused by the trip Dariye’s appeals attacking the validity and the competence of the charges took from the trial court to the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court even as he lost all the way.
