Thank you for contacting Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Open work permit - Spouse or common-law partner of a post-graduate student holding a work permit under TEER category 0, 1, 2 or 3

An open work permit (open WP) is a great opportunity to work in Canada temporarily. It enables you to work with any employer you wish to work for.

You can apply for an open WP if you are the spouse/common-law partner of a post-graduate student who already holds a WP as a highly skilled worker.

Eligibility to apply

The principal worker needs to be already employed in an occupation under TEER category 0, 1, 2 or 3.

To submit the application, here are additional documents you will need to include:

A copy of your spouse/common-law partner’s open WP,
A letter from their current employer that confirms they work there in TEER category 0, 1, 2 or 3 occupation, or a copy of their employment offer or contract, and
A copy of their recent pay slips.
How to apply

Please visit our website to apply for your:

Initial work permit, or to
Extend or change the conditions on your work permit.
We recommend reading the instruction guide, it will help you submit a complete application.

Once your WP is approved, you can start working.

To find out how long it may take to process your application, please visit the processing times page.

They should Google the mp of where they live in eg if they live in North york, they should search for "MP North York" the details of the MP will be online and they reach out to them.

First application refusal was based on proof of funds which I worked on. I requested for gcms note and treated all concerns noted. Documents from my spouse in Canada which is of concern her e include her employment letter,letter of introduction, pgwp, letter of invitation/support. Applications used 4months

I am in the same boat as you, my case is SOWP for my husband, I have requested for my gcms notes and have also asked my mp to request for a detailed reason for the refusal, I am considering a reconsideration request via webform. I submitted my employment letter but not my contract letter where my job description was stated so I am guessing they were unable to determine my noc code and Teer level at the time. It will end in praise.

When did you reapply? And how long did the second application take? Did you request for gcms note to understand the actual reasons for the refusal? I think that you have considered a reconsideration by raising a webform with the necessary documents. Can you list the documents you used for the second application

The tradeportal site will advice you the right documents. I used my letter of acceptance, deg. cert and flywire invoice for the payment.

Some will also ask you to attach a signed letter of authorization to debit your account.

Information I got from my bank might help someone.

Personal Travel Allowance (PTA) and Business Travel Allowance (BTA) will now be disbursed into your FirstBank Travel Card ($3,500) and via cash ($500). All applications will still be in line with Regulatory Requirements.

Kindly ensure that all PTA/BTA applications are submitted 14 days (minimum) before your proposed travel date, while a minimum of 30 days is required for school fees, upkeep and others.

Please be reminded that application for Form A for (School fees, Student Upkeep, PTA/BTA) must be processed on the Trade Monitoring System (TRMS) platform of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Requirements for processing school fees for the first degree and post-graduate programmes:
Admission letter in the school letter head
Invoice for the current semester on the school letter head.
The beneficiary bank/account details in the name of the school/university
Duly completed Form A
Authority to debit customer/applicant account for Naira equivalent and charges
Biodata page of International passport of the student
Additionally, first degree certificate is required for post graduate programs.
Notification of result is acceptable only if it is duly endorsed as 'certified true copy' by the institution that awarded it
The applicant should be a recognized parent or guardian of the student.
School fees and student upkeep is strictly for degree and post graduate programs.
The school fees amount should be equal to or less than the amount on the invoice and not more than the amount on the invoice.
The maximum limit of USD15,000 (or its equivalent in other currencies) per semester is no longer applicable. The amount on the invoice is the limit in line with recent CBN/ Bankers committee decisions.
The student upkeep/maintenance fee is a maximum of USD3,000 (or its equivalent in other currencies) and can be paid directly to the account in the name of the student abroad per semester if the school does not make provision for collection of student upkeep on behalf of the student. This is in line with the recent CBN/ Bankers committee decision.

Requirements for processing PTA/BTA:
Biodata page of International Passport
Valid Visa Page
Duly confirmed return ticket with e-ticket number
Authority to debit account for naira equivalent and charges
Account must have been opened and run for at least 6 months
Complete a prepaid card request form where customer does not have one

Pls can you help a sample of what the letter of authority should look like

From personal experience, using a third-party's profile on the CBN tradeprtal with your bank account may cause the bank to reject your payment. Access bank for instance usually support using your profile and your bank details.

Again that was my experience. Had to ask for the funds to be transferred to my account, i updated my email on my BVN and applied

Lo and behold, today,
Correspondence Letter and PPR letter - 27th January 2022.

Gurus in the house, I have a major concern with regards to proof of funds. I also intend to use the NSE route for my study visa application but my major challenge is with the proof of funds. I have an investment I run with my mum that can conveniently cover the required 30k cad, but I can't generate the MBS cert as its not among the banks listed. What else can I use, Please help. @lekibobo, @frankrobbn1, @justmellow, @uzomachukwu and others your response would be gladly appreciated.

Good evening house,

I am writing this with mixed feelings. I applied for a program with NBCC, paid application fee and all after which I realized that the program I applied for was a post-secondary program cause I ready have a Bsc. I immediately went on to apply for a change of course. I later realized that one of the courses to which I applied for a change was not effected, I called the international office and reported it even sent them a voice note to which they acknowledged the receipt. Now I have been offered admission on the course which I asked for a change.
I know that the chances of being rejected on The grounds of lack of academic progression is eminent.

Please gurus in the house, kindly advice and help I any way possible.

You will need to apply for an extra one year course towards the end of the first course and also apply for a visa extension making the total stay 2yrs.

Will this extra one year course when added to first one still make one eligible for the PGWP
