Humans are emotional beings and are constantly looking for love; this, they do consciously or subconsciously. People are driven by love and this dictates how we perceive, feel and respond to anything. The need to love and feel love is inherent in everyone everywhere so much so that we’re drawn to whatever or whomever meets this need. Try to imagine a world without love.. It’s terrible! Whatever speaks this language of love appeals to us more than a loveless alternative. This is why we tend to prefer some music, movies, people or books more than others. If you love to read or write, especially fiction, you’ll most likely agree that stories with no elements of physical attraction are boring and simply vapid and I’m tempted to say almost pointless. I for one can’t read five chapters of a book without a lil bit of romance every now and then. Okay apart from the obvious romantic exuberance, I’ll be sharing with you 5 reasons why love scenes are important in storytelling. 1. It gets your readers addicted to your story Romance has time and again proved to be potent at capturing attention. Whether it’s from the news headlines or a gossip column in a magazine, people can’t resist the story of two people who have deep affection for each other. When your story has one or more persons in love, your readers are compelled to love these characters more. This makes them glued to your story as they want to follow through to see how this love unfolds. 2. It makes your characters come alive Your characters might be fictional but when you make them capable of feeling passion, they seem more real and alive. In fact, some of us have wished a character was indeed real because of how much we connected with them, their struggles, loss, pains, love, joys etc. So next time you writing a story you might want to spice up your protagonists part with some romance. They may seem to go in search for it or simply neglect the concept while all the while everyone (your readers) know they’re in love with another character but just won’t admit it. And the scenarios go on and on. 3. It immortalizes your story (or character) This is no doubt the secrets of our favorite classics; the likes of Romeo Juliet, Marilyn Monroe, Jack and Rose etc. The love roles this characters featured rendered them timeless. Most people would even recall the names of characters and forget their authors. Yes, such is the power of love. 4. It teaches life lessons Because people would rather learn from someone else’s mistakes than theirs. Countless times I have applied lessons learned from such stories to real life relationship issues and they helped! This, if done with wisdom, could shape relationships for the better. So that your stories are entertaining as well as informative. 5. It builds empathy Reading and writing is all about empathy. Once the writer has successfully entered into the mind of his readers and the reader, the authors’, mission accomplished. Readers like to accredit the term favorite authors to writers who they understand and who understands them. The trick is, your readers relate with you based on how they could relate with your characters. So make them fall in love with your characters by blowing their minds away with breathtaking romance plots. For what other reasons do you love to read or write stories with love plots? I had a conversation with a friend about Valentine the other day and I was impressed at his idea of showing love. To him, showing love especially to that special one in your life should be an everyday affair and not something to be reserved for one day. Now ain’t that cute? Getting Valentine present ideas for introverts can sometimes be a little strenuous as introverts tend to be shy about speaking out loud what they really want for presents. But then that’s not often the case in reality, we get caught up in a frenzy of activities that we so often forget to go that extra mile for the special people in our lives. This is why we love valentine; it’s given us an opportunity to ‘make up’ for all the love we’ve been hoarding to ourselves or depriving ourselves of. However, if your partner is an introvert like myself, you may find they’re not so keen on extravagant and/or grandiose display of love. We tend to dislike the crowd and drama and would rather cuddle up in bed and have a tete a tete. This is why I have assembled 14 valentine present ideas for introverts (in no particular order of importance) to assist you get a present worthy, for that special one in your life Note pads Oh yes we cherish note pads, the lot of us keep journals and diaries (most introverts find writing as a means of expression) and we will find functions for every notepad that comes our way. I personally wouldn’t mind having over a dozen of them. If your introvert friend/partner loves to write, getting them a notepad with a lovely design is definitely not a bad Valentine present idea for introverts. A life plant Introverts love nature as they often feel a sense of connection with it. They are also nurturers and will jump at the opportunity of being a part of the growth of something. Moreso, when it pertains to nature. It could be as random as a flower that would accentuate their room décor or a potted plant that would provide useful benefits. Either way, they’ll love it. A music box/mp3 A music box? Absolutely! We savor drowning in our favorite playlists and shutting off from the rest of the world. Books and/or book sets A simple good book or a boxset of a special series or edition (if you’re aiming for that extra awwn) is a terrific choice. Remember, your introvert friend/partner just wants to curl up in bed and read. A warm colored shawl or scarf Yeah we’re big fans of cozy & comfy ☺️. We’ll appreciate the fact that you notice how simple, warm and comfortable we like to look and feel every time we go out. Customized Tees/hoodies/mugs Get us a customized tee shirt or oversized hoodie with a real goofy write up on it that expresses our individuality and we’ll absolutely cherish it. A piece of jewelry So long as it’s simple, unique and yet, mysterious, it’ll make a lovely present. Side tip: they can be gotten in thrift stores. Fancy pens/pencils If your partner/friend is someone who writes a lot, draws or is a fashion designer, a pen will make a beautiful present. “A GOOD PEN, ALBEIT SMALL, MAKES GOOD PENMANSHIP” – ME (JUST NOW) Pencil portrait Don’t we all just love to look at our own reflection?. There’s something special about having a beautiful handmade portrait of yourself look at you everyday you wake up. Especially because you know it took the artist time and a painstaking attention to every detail of your features. It’s amazing. Satin bonnets Satin bonnets, whether plain, prints or floral are as beautiful as they come and are a great choice for Valentine present ideas for introverts. We love how they’re soft enough to prevent our hair from drying and feathery enough to let it breathe. Side tip: Esthers_kraft (IG) makes beautiful and even customized ones and I hear she doing a valentine promo sale too. Pets Awwwn cute little things You know we’ll go down this lane . Does your partner/friend love animals? Then you might want to consider this. Do ensure you do your homework properly so as to get a pet they love and are not allergic to so you don’t go and buy a chihuahua for someone who’s more into monkeys. Camera Yep! We love to make our own stuff especially when it means a lot to us. We also love to keep memories and oh what bliss twill be when we own a camera and are able to call our own shots (pun intended). It’ll make our photos (memories) more personal and trust me, that’s a big deal. Home-cooked dinner Firstly, this is important not just because it’s romantic but also because we’re super lazy cooks. Like every other thing, we cook up great meals in our head. However, in reality we go numb and will most likely settle for fast food. Hence, we’d appreciate someone who takes the time to cook for us especially when it’s someone we trust. Nature walk I suggest an unpopular place with a beautiful landscape e.g waterside, plains, hills etc. Anyway, that’s my suggestion, it could as well be a creepy hideout (weird is cool these days lol) I mean it’s your buddy, you know them better. Do it your own style. The point is, let it be as natural and private as possible. To wrap it up, this is not an exhaustive list. So feel free to share your ideas with us too. If you loved this, don’t forget to like, comment and share Have a happy and fun Valentine’s Day and remember to spread love everyday ❤️

I met Eric a few weeks ago probably a month or thereabout. He was a jolly good fellow. He always beamed, and his eyes always lit up when he saw me. I remember the first time we met. I went to get a recharge card from a kiosk just outside my office. I loaded it on my phone immediately and stalled with the phone against my ears because I was trying to make the call before going back to the office. There was this guy talking to the recharge card seller that smiled when I greeted them at first. The contact I was dialing was not answering. So, while I stalled, I listened in on their conversation. They were talking horoscopes; a topic I love. I couldn’t resist the urge to join them, so I did. He was saying something about cancer, so I chipped in one or two random stuff I could remember. And that set the ball rolling as we went further to talk about our own signs and made good jokes about them. We got along well and by this time I had successfully displaced the recharge card seller who wasn’t even as enthusiastic about the topic as I was, and this seemed to please my new friend. I had to rush back to the office, so my new friend asked to have my contact, but I turned him down and told him I’ll see him again. I did see him again and a couple more times. He was always at this recharge card sellers shop and that happened to be my way home when I close from work. My new friend would always beam at me and try to be chatty, but I was always in a hurry. So last week, I went to get peanut cookies this time with another friend of mine from the office, when we were about leaving, the recharge card seller told me ‘’Eric says I should greet you’’. And I was like “Who’s Eric?” “You don’t know Eric?” he asked. “That your friend now”. ‘’Oh, that’s his name?’’ ‘’Yes, but you know he’s not okay ba?’’ ‘’How’’ I asked ‘’He’s not too okay, his head is not correct o’’ he said making gestures using his hands towards his head. ‘’Wow!’’ I exclaimed. ‘’Are you serious? I didn’t know now”. Then he went on to say, “And he was never in the army don’t mind him that’s just what he tells people’’. “No wonder he’s always on khaki, but how did I miss it?” I thought. As if reading my thoughts.. “Sorry” the recharge card guy said, “I thought you knew o” ‘’I didn’t know”. I replied, thanked him and left. As I walked back to the office, I continued to ponder on the news I had just heard. Eric seemed intelligent, his smile was genuine (okay maybe he smiles a little too much) and he made an excellent conversationalist. “So what” I thought to myself; What if he is not insane like they claim? How could they be so sure? What if he’s just on another level of intelligence? Like above the normal. And since most people don’t relate, they termed him ‘insane. What if it’s we who are insane? Sanity is deception, a monumental façade requisite for anyone that begs to be consequential in this age. So much so that, the moment you let out a teeny-weeny bit of insanity or quirkiness, the average man sees you as ‘unconventional’, ‘uncivilized’ or insane. Now the insane in this context is not the medically ill type, it’s the outrageous and spontaneous state the mind yearns for occasionally, that let’s one do shocking or uncommon behaviors, like belching before on your crushes face. While this is natural, society defines them as disapproving. Permit me to confess this; most times I assume that some of the prophets spoken of in the bible were perceived to be mad men in their time. Prophets like Ezekiel, Isaiah etc. Before you look at me that way, imagine someone not having their bath for days, sleeping on only one side of their body for 390 days and baking cake with cows dung! You’d think they were insane right? But, they weren’t. They acted like one because they were driven by something higher than them. What if my friend Eric acts insane not because he’s mentally ill but probably because he is driven by something higher than him. Let’s face it, we are all insane (in varying degrees though). And it’s about time we embraced it. It’s 2020 friends, don’t be afraid to be insane. So, go on, laugh out loud, fart out loud, slap your boss (you know I don’t mean this right), empty your account and go for that dream vacation; death is boring enough, do something crazy! (Just try not to kill yourself). Insane can be cool too you know, like my friend Eric. What do you think about mad people? Do you find them scary, sick, pathetic, endearing? |
Sorry o |
