Eledan: Who is GEJ without loyal state governors? A President is as powerful as much as the undiluted loyalty of state governors under his party.

Presently ...the Nigerian state governors collectively are more powerful than the President.
please learn to see the big picture, this is politics and not religious gathering
PoliticsRe: Atiku And 7 Governors Walk-out Of PDP Convention by gramci: 4:43pm On Aug 31, 2013
President GEJ will win Rivers State anyday, the other northern states you mentioned he didn't win there in last election. So these men are political liability for now. So the only way to put them to good use is to frustrate them out of PDP so they can form a party that will split APC's vote. grin

Eledan: You are deceiving and consoling only yourself....

What is PDP without Kano...Rivers...Jigawa..Sokoto...kwara Adamawa...Niger .

If you believe that everything is well with PDP at the moment...it's either you are profoundly naive or you are just ignorant in arithmetic of Nigeria politics.

Presently Lagos is out of it for GEJ

If he loses Kano but manage to even get Rivers....we may experience the first election run-off in the history of Nigeria, a run -off will never favour GEJ.

CrimeDelhi Gang-rape-murder Case: Suspect Sentenced 3yrs In Prison by gramci(op): 4:18pm On Aug 31, 2013
NEW DELHI (AFP) – An Indian court found a teenager guilty on Saturday of taking part in the fatal gang-rape of a student in New Delhi, a crime that sparked revulsion and angry protests in the country.

The juveniles’ court sentenced the teenager to three years in a correctional facility after handing down the first and long-delayed verdict over the brutal assault on the student on a moving bus last December.

“He has been held guilty for rape and murder and sentenced to three years subject to review,” Anil Sharma, the chief investigating officer in the case, told reporters outside the court in the capital.

The teenager, who was 17 at the time of the attack, was given the maximum penalty after he was tried as a juvenile, and the three years will include the time he has already spent in custody.

The victim’s mother emerged from the court in tears, saying “he got just three years … from December onwards he has been given three years”.

“He should get an adult sentence,” the emotional mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told reporters.

Her daughter, a 23-year-old physiotherapy student, died of internal injuries after being raped and assaulted with an iron bar allegedly by six men on the night of December 16. Her male companion was also beaten up before both were thrown from the bus.

The attack brought simmering anger about endemic sex crime in India to the boil, and sparked weeks of sometimes violent street protests in the country.

The victim’s family had earlier called for the teenager to be given the death penalty, saying the juvenile justice system, which seeks to reform rather than punish, was too lenient.

The perceived leniency of the sentence is likely to spark further anger in India where the suspects, some of whom have been beaten up in jail, are public hate figures.

Outside the court, up to 20 protesters demanded a harsher punishment, screaming “Hang the juvenile too” and “We want justice.”

The separate trial of the four adult suspects in a fast-track court is hearing closing arguments and is expected to wrap up in the next few weeks, with the men facing a possible death sentence if convicted.

The fifth adult, the suspected ring leader, died in jail in an apparent suicide.

Outrage over the attack pushed parliament to pass a new law toughening sentences for rapists, while there was a round of public soul-searching over the rising tide of violence against women.

The Supreme Court this month cleared the way for the principal magistrate, Geetanjli Goel, to deliver the verdict on the juvenile’s case.

It was delayed after a petition was lodged in the Supreme Court by an opposition politician for a review of the juvenile law, arguing suspects aged over 16 accused of serious offences should be tried in adult courts.

The juvenile, one of six children, was employed to clean the bus allegedly used for the attack and often slept rough or inside the vehicle, reports say.

He reportedly left his impoverished home in a village in northern Uttar Pradesh state at the age of 11 to live in Delhi, where he worked in a string of menial jobs until landing the job of cleaning the bus.

Children’s rights groups have called for public restraint over the verdict, saying the teenager needed to be given a chance of rehabilitation, adding that India’s child protection services had already failed him.

“In fact, every child coming in conflict with the law is a reflection of the state and society failing that child,” Vijaylakshmi Arora, director of policy and research at Child Relief and You, told AFP.

The Centre for Policy Development and Political Studies has said that noticeable improvement has been observed in the health sector, as most health facilities across the country presently offer some form of services to patients.

The centre had organised the Public Administrator of the Year Award (PAYA) with the Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Ado Muhammad emerging the winner.

The organizers acknowledged Nigeria’s progress towards eradication of poliomyelitis, reduction in maternal and infant mortality, impressive initiatives in addressing human resource challenge in the Primary Health Care sub-sector, integration and decentralization of HIV/AIDS intervention in PHC services in over 1,500 PHC facilities, transparency in public procurement and community ownership of PHC interventions under the agency.

Dr. Muhammad expressed his appreciation to the organizers for their interest in promoting patriotism, selflessness, good governance, democratic culture, transparency, accountability and excellence in the Nation’s public service.

He described the award as very encouraging, stressing that it would spur him, his colleagues at NPHCDA development partners and all PHC stakeholders to do more in ensuring effective and efficient primary health care services to all Nigerians.

PoliticsDrama As Political Thugs Strip Party Chieftain Naked In Ogun State by gramci(op): 11:27am On Aug 27, 2013
Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State was thrown into pandemonium, Saturday when a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ogun State, Emmanuel Ajala, was seriously beaten and stripped naked by suspected political thugs.

It was gathered that the politician was trailed by some unidentified attackers at about 6:30pm, on Saturday, while going to his country home in Gbonagun, Abeokuta.

Sources said the hoodlums, three men, were alleged to have overtaken the politician’s car with motorcycle and flagged him down before pouncing on him.

Ajala, a former legislator in Abeokuta South Local Government of the state, was also reported to have been dragged down from the car, while his cloths were torn on him.

It was, however, gathered that he was saved from been killed when they sighted an oncoming vehicle and fled.

Narrating his ordeal, Ajala said, “They accused me of being too bold to comment on political issues, which they considered uncomplimentary and warned me to desist.

“It was an oncoming car they saw that made them to bolt away. I have equally reported the case to Obantoko police station.”

The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the incident said the victim reported at the police station, but had failed to report back as scheduled for further investigation of the case, explaining that his failure to report back will affect investigation.

“The man reported the case, and he was asked to be followed to the scene, but said he was scared and when asked to also come back the following day for further investigations, he failed to report.

“There is no way the police could investigate without him. He has killed investigation, so whether his claim is true or not, nobody can tell.”

PoliticsOkupe - “APC Is A Shameless Party, They Plagiarized Pdp’s Manifesto” by gramci(op): 7:10am On Aug 27, 2013
Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe on Sunday mocked All Progressives Party (APC), saying it is an opposition party that would remain so, even after 2015.

Okupe who spoke while fielding questions from newsmen in Makurdi, said the APC’s manifesto was a plagiarised version of that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stressing that the party had nothing new to offer to Nigerians.

“The manifesto of APC is almost like an internet download and there is nothing that reflects change in it. We have looked forward to them coming out with something more superior than that of the PDP which is now 13 years old but sadly, they have nothing new to offer,” he said.

“In this day and age, no political party can deceive Nigerians by their bogus manifesto which has no bearing to national development. The electorates have become wiser than we think.”

Okupe went on to say that the APC lacked substance and that its manifesto proves that the party had nothing new to offer.

“My appeal is that the founding fathers should go back and rewrite the manifesto because as of now, it poses no credible challenge to the PDP,” the presidential aide added.
