Yes Jonathan will fight yahoo yahoo boys, when they have successfully rendered EFCC powerless. The only corruption EFCC can fight now is against Yahoo yahoo boys so as to get busy. Opposition beware, he is going to fight the way OBJ fought corruption by attacking opponents in the name of fighting corruption. |
Below are President Jonathan’s 2012 fuel subsidy Speech. This is the second time he is promising to reducing travel costs. What happened with the first promise? “12. To save Nigeria, we must all be prepared to make sacrifices. On the part of Government, we are taking several measures aimed at cutting the size and cost of governance, including on-going and continuous effort to reduce the size of our recurrent expenditure and increase capital spending. In this regard, I have directed that overseas travels by all political office holders, including the President, should be reduced to the barest minimum. The size of delegations on foreign trips will also be drastically reduced; only trips that are absolutely necessary will be approved.” Buying the 11th aircraft of the presidential fleet in the 2014 budget does not seem like a sacrifice to me. I have to ask, who is really running Nigeria? |

President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday said irrespective of the challenges Nigerians might have faced, the country remained a truly blessed one, whose diversity remained its source of strength. Jonathan said this in his New Year message to the nation made available by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati. He added that the Federal Government would fight corruption more in 2014. He said, “Our administration believes that the cost of governance in the country is still too high and must be further reduced. We will also take additional steps to stem the tide of corruption and leakages. “We have worked hard to curb fraud in the administration of the pension system and the implementation of the petroleum subsidy scheme. We have introduced a Pensions Transition Arrangement Department under a new Director-General. This department will now ensure that those of our pensioners still under the old scheme receive their pensions and gratuities, and are not subjected to fraud. “Prosecution of all those involved in robbing our retired people will continue. The Petroleum Subsidy Scheme is also now being operated under new strict guidelines to tackle previous leakages in the scheme and prevent fraud. “Foreign travel by government personnel will be further curtailed. This directive shall apply to all Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government. Our strategy to curb leakages will increasingly rely on introducing the right technologies such as biometrics and digitising government payments.” He added, “Whatever challenges we may have faced, whatever storms we may have confronted and survived, Nigeria remains a truly blessed country, a country of gifted men and women who continue to distinguish themselves in all spheres of life, a country whose diversity remains a source of strength,” he said. The President observed that 2014 would be a momentous one for the country for several reasons, including the fact that the nation would celebrate its 100 years of existence in the New Year. He recalled that the British colonial authorities amalgamated the separate Protectorates of Southern Nigeria and Northern Nigeria on January 1, 1914 to give birth to Nigeria. “Year 2014, to Nigerians, is not just the beginning of a new year, but the end of a century of national existence and the beginning of another,” he said. This, he said, was a moment for sober reflection and for pride in all that was great about Nigeria. While reiterating his position that the nation’s amalgamation was not a mistake, the President said as they celebrate the 100 years of its nationhood, Nigerians must resolve to continue to work together as one united people. He assured Nigerians that his administration remained committed to the development of the country and the consolidation of peace, unity and democratic governance. He added that despite several domestic and global challenges in 2013, Nigeria witnessed many positive developments which his administration would strive to build upon in 2014. The President admitted that the cost of governance in the country was still too high and must be further reduced. He also promised to take additional steps to stem the tide of corruption and leakages. Jonathan added that foreign travel by government personnel would be further curtailed and that the directive would apply to all ministries, departments and agencies of the Federal Government. The President also reeled out statistics on the strides he said his administration achieved in the agriculture, health, education, water and housing sectors among others and promised to do more in the New Year. http://www.punchng.com/news/ill-fight-corruption-more-in-2014-jonathan/ |

Interestingly enough Hausa did not bother Yoruba and Yoruba did not bother Hausa, each party was busy minding their business to the detriment of the whole country. Exactly the symptom of incompetence, you see, incompetence does not ask questions or get inquisitive because it does not know what to be inquisitive about and even when it asks a question and gets an answer; it does not know what to do with. This explains the widespread of bribery and corruption when you have Yoruba and Hausa neck deep into it. Another case of incompetence displayed by north was when the Yoruba proposed for the indigenization of foreign companies. It is my belief that none of the northern military leaders had ever heard that word INDIGENIZATION before or understood what it meant. In the first instance, the presence of the northerners incooperated Nigeria was minimal to none, so the north had no comprehension of the ramification of such policies, another evidence of incompetence rather than corruption from the onset. If the north was competent and understood the implications of such policies, they could have objected on many grounds, unfortunately they did not know any better to checkmate the looting Yoruba rascals. Having demonstrated that the Yoruba failed to lead notwithstanding their education, the question is what is the difference between the leaders of countries like South Korea, Brazil and India that succeeded in the face of challenges and the Yoruba leaders that failed? The fact that Yoruba cannot claim lack of education, they cannot claim lack of opportunity and they cannot claim that they lacked the unrestrained authority to act, the only thing that the other leaders have that the Yoruba lacked is competence. The way it works is that the absence of competent creates a vacuum hat is quickly filled by the ills of societies like bribery, corruption, greed, crime, murder and so on and so on. To further drive the point home, can anyone recall one single Yoruba official that has done something so noble and honorable to improve the lot of the whole nation rather pursuing self-interest that Nigerians could look back and sing his praise? The answer is no, but I will like someone to proof me wrong. That is a proof of incompetence first before corruption. As a matter of fact you can trace the origin of all the millionaires from Yoruba and Hausa to one corruption or the other or government contract. Fighting corruption in Nigeria is like fighting Hausa and Yoruba and I think that that is a daunting task. The simple fact that after Yoruba took total control of Nigerian economy and they could not improve the socio-economics and technological development is a sign of nothing but incompetence. The injection of competence in Nigerian system will see a gradual improvement in accountability and progress. Typical example is that Hausa and Yoruba have gone in and out of ministerial positions for decades without anything to show for it and that is why no one can remember their names or what they did but when you mention the name of people that have demonstrated competence, people remember them and what they accomplished, people like Charles Soludo, Obiageli Ezekwesili, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Dora Akunyili and Dr. Bert Nnaji to mention afew. Notice that these folks did not have unrestrained authority, they did not have cart blanche but were able to make a different despite the challenges just like the leaders in South Korea, Brazil and India. What do they have in common? Competence. I could go on and on but I believe that the point has been made that the problem ailing the country is not bribery, corruption or greed rather that our fundamental problem is incompetence and that only competent people can tame the pillaging and looting going on now and most importantly that Yoruba and Hausa must join the builders rather than looters of the system. Enter the Hausa Incompetence: Contrast the success of competent corrupt societies with the failure of incompetent corrupt societies like Nigeria. I defined earlier an incompetent corrupt society as a society that lacks the inert mechanism to self-correct and self-adjust for the betterment of its society or a house without a grown up. Since after the war Nigeria has been living the life of an incompetent corrupt society that lacks the necessary capacity, ability and skills to self-correct in order to carry out a task of improving the lot of Nigerian. It is important to note that after the war the north held sway, they had total and absolute control, they had total freedom, they had no opposition because the opposition had been decimated. Igbo was leaking its wounds. The north had the freedom to take the country in any direction they chose without opposition, to make Nigeria in its own image, if you think about it, they sure made Nigeria in their image, squalor, illiteracy, ignorance, crime, death, murder, hopelessness, stagnation, disillusionment, indiscipline, disaster, unfulfilled dreams, indifference, neglect, over-night millionaires and billionaires, disappointments, bribery, corruption and greed became the new normal, the question is what happened? What happened was that the British helped to institutionalized Kakistocracy and incompetence prevailed over competence and became the order of the day if you ask me? As we will see, the north exhibited incompetence of the highest order with its attendant corruption and blight without the necessary mechanism to self-correct and self-adjust. Even before the north got power, they knew that they were ill prepared for the responsibilities, when they got the power, they had no clue what to do with, they did not know what military and political power were used for, they became confused, they became a sitting duck, they became rudderless, even when they were advised, they could not use the advise because they did not have the requisite ability and skills to judge the advise right or wrong. When they delegated responsibility they lacked the ability to evaluate what the result should be, for that reason it was difficult for them to request for any feedback when they had no clue what the feedback is supposed to look like. If they cannot tell difference between what they are looking for, how can they check mate bad behaviors from good? This is incompetence not corruption. Before the northern military took power, literally, everything in the system was working, education, health, water supply, electricity, road infrastructure, Nigerian railway, ports authority, national shipping line, the business and commerce industry were all thriving. It is pertinent to note that the north did not meet the systems in their primitive stage, they had systems that were working, as a matter of fact Nigeria experienced incredible economic expansion immediately after the war in part because the Igbo land was militarized and unbeknownst to the leadership the army spent majority of their salaries in Igboland which managed to keep the Igbo economy afloat and plus other foreign investment into the country. When the demands of leadership came knocking on the door of the northern leadership, what answered and opened the door was abject incompetence, absolute intellectual vacuity, visionlessness and hopelessness. The leadership was found to be inadequate, unsuited, devoid of those qualities requisite for effective conduct or action and not possessing the necessary ability and skills to carry out the tasks of leadership. What was most disturbing was that the northern leadership knew it, the British masters knew it, the Igbo knew it, the Yoruba knew it, the world knew it and the British went ahead anyway to convince the north that they can lead the country even over the objection of the northern leadership that they cannot. The manifest absence of vision, objectives, direction, hope and the cluelessness of the northern leadership created a vacuum that laid the foundation and fertile ground for unbridled bribery and corruption to breed, fester and multiply. This is incompetence not corruption. The absence of competence is our problem. When the northern leadership was found vacuous, opportunist and schemers filled the vacuum they found with their whims and caprice and the north could not self-correct or correct others because they did not possess the requisite elements of competence. This is incompetence not corruption, though corruption later filled that vacuum that was created but it did not come first, it came second after it discovered that competence was not home. In order words the north being in charge is like having no grown up in the house and the rascals came in and ransacked the house. What is most heart breaking is the fact that the northern incompetence knew no bounds, the least that could have been expected from the northern leadership was taking care of northern citizens, favoring them and raising their standard of living relative to the rest of the country but that did not happen. The fact that they could not do it is incompetence not corruption. The northern leadership could not improve the education and literacy, health -infant mortality, water, road infrastructure, economics and the overall wellbeing of the northern citizens. The question is whether the failure of the northern leadership to improve the lot of the northerners was deliberate? The answer is no but more of the manifestation of incompetence and not corruption. They were clueless which is equal to incompetence. The north today has the highest illiteracy rate in the whole world, infant mortality, blindness and myriad of other problems. The north is worse off amongst the whole groups in Nigeria in all indices used to adjudge standard of living. The welfare of the north could have been more worse if it were not for the work of non-governmental organizations from the southern part of the country that provide preventive and palliative services in place of the total absence of government services. Folks have always wondered why Nigeria is in this state of anomie, all I ask is for folks to look to the north and they will find the answer. Folks should ask the question, how can the north do for the whole nation what they could not do for their northern people, the saying that you cannot give what you do not have, the north could not give that which they did not possess and that is competent service. Ladies and Gentlemen, what I am contending here is that what the northern leadership demonstrated was not bribery, was not corruption or greed, what they demonstrated was peter’s principal at work which was basic incompetence because it is evident that as much as one will agree that the north had a reason to hold malice against the east, there was no evidence that they extended that malice to their northern brethren, nor was there evidence that the leadership hated their citizens, so their failure to take care of the welfare of the northern people and to make them better than the rest of the nation could only be seen as innocent and inert ignorance and not corruption. Their failure to understand what leadership is all about and failed to make the connection between leadership and the people. In case some of you have forgotten, let me remind you of what incompetence is all about: being Inadequate for or unsuited to a particular purpose or application, Devoid of those qualities requisite for effective conduct or action, and not possessing the necessary ability, skill, etc. to do or carry out a task". I want the reader to pay attention to the words "unsuited, devoid, and not possessing and that will capture the crux of my argument. You have to be devoid of something serious to fail in everything. That north is simple and short not suited for the purposes of leadership and that is why they can not stop all the bad things that are happening. There were plenty of evidence that the north in most part were innocent and not corrupt nor were they inclined to bribery until years later when the leadership vacuums they created were filled by others who were equally as incompetent as they were. The north did not start out not to bring the dividend of their leadership to the people, ironically they did not even try because they did not know how to try or what to try or do, they were super-morosed, and they simply vegetated throughout their leadership reign. The lack of performance on the part of northern leadership was not intentional because they just did not know how to perform anything. They had no expectations either from themselves or from others, they were satisfied with where they found themselves, complacency became the order of the day as they knew no better, as they could not see beyond where they were standing, evidence of incompetence not corruption. As far as they were concerned everything was normal, they did not know the difference between performance and none performance, when they allowed some ideas and projects to be executed, they were unsuited and were devoid of the abilities and skills to grasp what exactly the ideas and projects were supposed to accomplish in the scheme of things, the final result and output supposed to look like. They heard the words but did not comprehend them, so whether a project was done half way, well done or not at all did not matter because the skill to do the evaluate did notexist, particularly when the highest level of education attained by almost all the northern military boys at that time was secondary school obtained from mostly moslem school. The moslem education still does not explain the incompetence of the north because some other moslem countries like India and Pakistan even Indonesia are doing better than Nigeria. The north had no understanding of administration, no understanding of economics, no understanding of employment, no understanding of social welfare, no understanding of technology and most importantly no understanding of their synergy. The northern leadership had no dreams for themselves, for their people or for the nation. They couldn’t dream dreams, when they dreamt something, it made no sense to them and they could not do anything with it, this is not corruption, this is not bribery or greed, this is incompetence. The only reason that can explain the unbridled and ubiquitous nature of corruption, bribery and greed that are ravaging the country is because the competence requisite to check them is absent. |

[quote author=EMMASON-125] Yoruba banker cuts off husband’s manhood in Lagos banker has been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly slitting her husband’s manhood. She was said to have taken that action over his alleged refusal to give her money. The incident occurred about 2am last Monday at their 99, Falolu Street, Surulere, Lagos home. The victim, Olamilekan Idowu Daniji, 34, told The Nation yesterday that his wife of three years, Nofisat, woke him up from sleep on the fateful day, threatening that between them, one person must die. “At first, I thought armed robbers broke into our home because she hit me hard, waking me forcefully. She tore my under-pant and held my private part. Everything was like a movie. And before I could say anything, she cut my private part. When I saw blood I shouted and she said: ‘That is where you will die.’ She abandoned me and fled,” Daniji said. He recalled that two days earlier, his wife, who works in a bank, quarrelled with him over his inability to provide food allowance. He said: “I am a gospel artiste. On Saturday morning – December 14 – I was preparing to go out when my wife came and said she needed money for food. I told her I had nothing on me. But before I left, she told me there were some noodles in the house which she and my son would eat. After she finished preparing it, she left a little in the pot which I ate before going out. But before I left the house, I called one of my sales representatives who told me he sold some copies and had about N2,500 for me. “After collecting the money, I went home and my wife said she wanted to eat fufu and white soup. I bought it for her. Shortly after, she requested bread, which I also bought for her. I did not complain because she is pregnant. On Sunday, I went to church, came back home and saw my wife and my son eating rice. I was happy that at least they had something to eat. I went out and bought beans and bread for myself and as I was eating, my wife came and started abusing me. She said I was selfish; that I did not care to ask how she got money to prepare the rice they ate. When she realised I was not responding, she carried the plate of beans and turned it on my head. She held my tie and threatened to strangle me. I begged her but she would not listen. So, I forced myself off her and ran away. But she caught up with me and broke a bucket on my head.” Daniji added: “She broke three empty bottles and attempted to stab me, but I escaped through my sister’s shop. Her mother came around and I called my mother’s sister and they were able to calm her. After we settled, I left the house.” The artiste said when he returned in the evening, he could not find his son. He asked his wife but she said nothing, but his elder sister told him that his mother-in-law took his son away. “I told my wife to go and bring my son and that if I did not see him before 8pm, she would not like what I would do to her. At exactly 8pm, she left the house and came back after 30 minutes without my son. We quarrelled, after which I slept off on the chair. That was where she woke me up and cut my private part.” Daniji said he was rushed to a private infirmary in Surulere by members of his family. The matter, he added, was reported at the Barracks Police Station, Surulere, and the woman was arrested. In her statement at the station, Nofisat wrote: “Ever since we got married, my sister-in-law and her twin brother have not allowed us peace. I was praying that my husband would make money and rent his own apartment so that we can live together in peace without any interference. From JULIANA TAIWO- OBALONYE, Abuja “I have been forced to watch what I say this time because politicians now take delight in twisting my utterances to suit them,” says President Goodluck Jonathan. This is even as the President blamed the current challenges facing the country on the selfishness, lack of unity and love among Nigerians as well as the championing of ethnicity and religion. Jonathan said he dreams of a future in Nigeria where any child can become what he/she wants to be based on merit without hindrances or connections. He noted that total commitment to developing the country as well as working collectively to overcome the barriers facing it by Nigerians will guarantee a better future for our children. The President disclosed these yesterday in his remarks while worshipping at Apostolic Faith Church, Jabi, Abuja, noting that Nigeria’s greatness was not in her oil, but in her diversity, human and natural resources, her potentials and the population. He said while his administration will not dwell on its achievements thus far, it will despite the challenges, continue to work to deliver the dividends, of democracy, noting that there was hope for the future of Nigeria if he could rise from the smallest community in Bayelsa State to become the President of Nigeria by the grace of God and support of the people. Jonathan likened the current challenges facing the country to that of the Israelites in the Holy Bible when they were leaving Egypt for Canaan, the Promised Land, assuring that he will bequeath a better Nigeria to the upcoming children. The President urged the church to continue to pray for the country, noting that through prayers, Nigeria will get to greater heights. Jonathan said: “We will try our best but this is not the time to reel out what we are doing or what we are not doing, otherwise, they will think I am here to campaign. But I assure you, this congregation and indeed all Nigerians that by the will of God and your support, I am here today from nowhere. “Any child of Nigeria can be where I am. I come from the smallest state in this country, even within the state, one of the smallest communities in Bayelsa. Even within the community, one of the smallest families, but I am here today by the grace of God. “That is the type of Nigeria we want to create, a Nigeria where you can get what you want if you work hard, it is not because you know somebody who knows somebody that will talk to somebody. A Nigeria that our children, if they work hard, will get whatever they want just like in other free societies like America and so on. We will work with you to help you to get to wherever you want to go”, he assured. The President who said he had no prepared text to read to the congregation, regretted that recently whatever he says seems to be taken out of context by the media. “I don’t have a formal address. Because for those of us in politics, these days are not the best days to make speeches because any statement we make, people look at how to paint it. The next day when you read the newspapers, you start doubting if that is what you said. So any statement we make is always used against us”, he lamented. The President said that he was touched by the preaching of the man of God and the ministration especially that of the children, adding that the Villa Chapel during the Christmas and New Year celebrations is usually closed to allow him worship outside the Villa to interact as well as thank Nigerians who have stood by his administration in prayers. “But I am quite pleased to be here with you today to worship with you. I love the children and your programme. I love the choir ministration. This is the first time I am worshipping with you since I came to Abuja in 2007. You would have seen me more than 10 times if we don’t have a chapel in the villa where we worship every Sunday. “But during the Christmas and New Year period, I like to go round and interact with other brethren. The reason is actually to thank all of you for what you have been doing for this country, for your prayers. I always say and I will continue to say it that but for your prayers, probably it would have been worse than this. Jonathan said Nigeria was divinely created, adding that it was not by chance that the North and South came together. “I totally agree with our man of God that it was not by chance, it was ordained by God. If God didn’t will it at that point, the North and South would not have come together. The details of the North and South coming together make Nigeria a very great country. I use to say that Nigeria is great not because of oil, we have countries that produce more oil than Nigeria but nobody talks about them. “We have countries that have multi million dollars in reserve because of their wealth and nobody talks about them but here we are just talking about $ 40,000. But the biggest to the smallest country talks about Nigeria. Why? Because of the diversity from the North to the South, the human and natural resources, the potentials and the population that we have. “So, Nigeria is a country that has a special blessing from God. It is left for us to appreciate God and continue to pray for God’s intervention and this country will continue to be great,” he said. Earlier in the service, the President took the Bible reading from the Book of Lamentations, Chapter 3, Verses 22 to 26. Delivering the sermon titled: “Living worthy of great mercies, great faithfulness of God,” Rev. Bayo Adeniran said that Nigeria will be very great if it returns from its evil ways, repent and follow God like the people of Nineveh in the Bible in Jonah 3: 5 to 8. He urged Nigerians to be wary of false prophets, stressing that the mercies and grace of God are available for the country He said: “If Nigeria believes in God like the people of Nineveh, God will heal Nigeria. The swiftness of God shall visit this country. We are so bothered about external corruption, but there are so much corruption in the heart. “The nation starts with you, the individual and the family. Return to God and God will answer your prayers. Nigeria shall not die, Nigeria will live if we return to God.” He stated http://sunnewsonline.com/new/cover/watch-utterances-now-jonathan/ |

duni04: Yoruba gals are very low in demand so guys end up paying almost nothing for them as bride price. That's why d money is eventually returned. Igbo gals are high in demand n low in supply, that's why their own bride price is high. Its simple economicsYou are dump! Very unfortunate you don't even know culture and tradition in Igbo land |
IMO bride price are outrageous unlike other part of Igbo no wonder their woman hardly marry. I hope they will one day lower their bride |
Orikinla: I hope Igbos can learn from the Yorubas.Look @ them morons! Return of bride price is practice in Igbo land since time immemorial. I am a witness |
iykofias: help me tel them o b4 some morons wil hijack it as their culture. That's problem with yoruba people, before you know it you ll start hearing "we are the only people that return bride price" or "we invented the returning of bride price" |
odua boy: Unlike ibos..Yorubas dont sell their daughters with the pretense of bride price. You are daft! my grand mom bride price was returned though it was not a tradition lather a personal decision. I paid 10k last 2yr as my wife bride price, their parent returned 9k to me. Bride price in Anambra is around 5k - 15k |

Orlando Owoh: I now see reasons why some "graduates" fail questions on logic asked during aptitude texts. If, among the people Iyetade Soyinka is said to have been survived by, her husband is missing, is it not obvious that he may have died. You must be a comedian |
Although I watched an adventurous film “Going Banana” many years back where Bosso was a monkey and d major character in the film. If I have to place Bosso’s and Madiba’s brains together, Going Banana’s Bosso is a genius. Death is an inevitable end, I see no reason for making a caricatures of the dead especially a youth like us. Obviously, Nigeria has lost her one eye and the second one infected with cataract. A sensible person would have glossed over the death than trivialising it for obvious reasonsof politricks. Wole Soyinka is an institution in Africa a rare gift to the world, no amount of envy and or blackmail would reduce the greatness of this man. Baba Wole Soyinka, our amiable Professor, take heart sir. May the rest of your children live long after you, may such death never again rare it’s ugly head in your household. On behalf of sensible Nigerians, I say may the soul of your great daughter rest in peace. Even in death she was still unable to avoid her fathers shadow…at least the press should have let us see her picture….not Wole Soyinkas picture that we have seen a billion times. Just this one chance and she still missed that “opportunity” provided by death. This is a wicked world |
