lottoe: Tragedy struck on Monday on the Funsho Williams Avenue bypass, Surulere, Lagos State, after a yet-to-be identified soldier was crushed to death by a LAGBUS, one of the buses in the state mass transit scheme.

Commuters plying the bridge could not help but watch in horror as the mangled body of the soldier was cut into two by the bus.

Eyewitnesses said the  victim, who was riding a motorcycle, was also carrying a woman on the back seat. The passenger was reportedly flung away by the impact of the collision.

She was said to be in a critical condition and had been taken to an unknown hospital in the state.

It was further learnt that the bus driver, after seeing the extent of the damage, removed his uniform and fled the scene.

The vehicle passengers also took to their heels to avoid reprisals by soldiers.

A mechanic, Taiwo Akindele, said the accident was caused by the bad state of the bridge.

He said, “The accident happened around 7.30am. It involved a red LAGBUS with number ‘30’ written on the body. It did not have a number plate.

“The driver was on top speed, not knowing the bridge was dilapidated. As he approached a bad spot on the bridge, the vehicle began to swerve dangerously towards the left of the bridge.

“But the driver turned the steering and the soldier, who was on a motorcycle, was pinned to the railing of the bridge. As the bus driver strived to control it, the bus dragged the soldier and cut through his bowel. He died on the spot.”

Akindele added that other soldiers arrived at the scene around 10am, while their presence caused panic in the area.

A Lagos State ambulance, which came to evacuate the deceased, was reportedly chased away by the angry soldiers.

A source said, “The whole place was filled with heavy military presence. Everybody was afraid. The soldiers later called in their own vehicle to carry the corpse. They were armed and looked menacing.”

He said the accident also drew the presence of members of the Federal Road Safety Corps and policemen.

A trader under the bridge told our correspondent that there had been four of such accidents within a space of three months due to the condition of the bridge.

Our correspondent observed that two connecting slabs of the bridge were almost pulling apart which usually forced drivers to move slowly when they got to the point.

Around 2pm, another tragedy was averted when a petrol tanker belonging to AP, and marked XA 273 AUG, broke down after the driver’s compartment caved in.

The driver had applied the brake when the incident happened. He was however able to escape without much injuries.

A resident who pleaded anonymity said, “This is not the first time we will be witnessing accidents here. We all are afraid for our lives.”

Another resident, Biodun Falola pleaded with the government to do something about the bridge which had become a death trap.

The Managing Director of LAGBUS, Mr. Babatunde Disu, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone, adding that the driver had been handed over to the police.

He said, “He only ran away as a safety precaution. We have since handed him over to the police for further investigations.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, when contacted, said she was in a meeting and would get back to our correspondent.-punch newspaper online

The pastor (names withheld) has been arrested over the alleged murder of the child.

Although details of investigation were still sketchy at press time, it was gathered that the pastor was allegedly caught burying the dead child in a shallow grave within the church premises.

It was learnt that the said pastor was caught by a neighbor, who had gone out to ease himself at 2a.m., weekend, digging the grave. The neighbour, whose identity was not disclosed, was said to have alerted other residents.

They were said to have reported their findings to policemen at Idimu Division, consequent upon which a team was drafted to the church.

The policemen, as gathered, dug the shallow grave where they discovered and exhumed the body of a baby girl. The body was deposited at the mortuary.

Command’s Deputy Spokesman, Damasus Ozoani, confirmed the arrest.

Politics › Jonathan Calls For Global Efforts To Eradicate Terrorism by gratiaeo(op): 10:50pm On Sep 23, 2013
By BEN AGANDE
ABUJA — President Goodluck Jonathan Monday in New York called for a stronger global consensus and determination to end the scourge of terrorism as quickly as possible.
Speaking with President Barrack Obama of the United States ahead of the opening of the 68th session of the United Nations tomorrow, President Jonathan said that unless the international community unites and deploys its enormous resources to eradicate terrorism, it will continue to be embarrassed by terrorist outrages such as the heinous attack on defenceless shoppers in Nairobi which both leaders strongly condemned.
President Jonathan expressed appreciation of the support and assistance Nigeria has been receiving from the United States for its fight against domestic terrorism.
He added, however, that Nigeria will welcome even more bilateral collaboration in this regard.
The President said that his administration also looked forward to the further strengthening of Nigeria’s relations with the United States in the areas of trade and economic development.
President Barrack Obama reassured President Jonathan of his commitment to the continuous strengthening of Nigeria’s electoral processes and the country’s democratic institutions.
President Jonathan applauded President Obama’s Power Africa and Youth Leadership Initiatives, saying that both initiatives would complement aspects of his administration’s agenda for national transformation.
President Obama had while welcoming President Jonathan to their meeting at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York, described Nigeria as a critical partner of the United States in Africa.
He assured President Jonathan that the United States will continue to cooperate with Nigeria in all possible areas, including the war against domestic and global terrorism.
President Jonathan was accompanied to the talks by the Minister of State (Foreign Affairs), Professor Viola Onwuliri, Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States, Professor Adebowale Adefuye, Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Allison Madueke, and  Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Ibrahim Dankwambo.
The United States Secretary of State, Mr. John Kerry and President Obama’s National Security Adviser, Ms. Susan Rice were also present at the talks.

Christianity Etc › Catholic Church Compiled The Bible by gratiaeo(op): 2:43pm On Sep 20, 2013
As you probably know, Catholic
Bibles have 73 books, 46 in the
Old Testament, and 27 in the
New Testament. Protestant
Bibles have 66 books with only
39 in the Old Testament. The
books missing from Protestant
Bibles are: Tobit, Judith,
Baruch, Wisdom, Sirach, 1 and
2 Maccabees, and parts of
Esther and Daniel. They are
called the 'Deuterocanonicals'
by Catholics and 'Apocrypha'
by Protestants. Martin Luther,
without any authority
whatsoever, removed those
seven books and placed them in an appendix during the
reformation. They remained in
the appendix of Protestant
Bibles until about 1826, and
then they were removed
altogether.
Please be mindful of the fact
that those seven books had
been in Bibles used by all
Christians from the very
foundation of Christianity.
Hellenistic Greek was the
language of the day during the
time of Christ. This was due to
the fact that Alexander the
Great had conquered the region several hundred years before.
The Hebrew language was on its way out, and there was a critical need for a translation of the Hebrew Old Testament for
dispersed Greek speaking Jews.
This translation, called the
Septuagint, or LXX, was
completed by Jewish scholars
in about 148 B.C. and it had all
of the books, including the
seven removed by Martin
Luther over 1650 years later.
The New Testament has about
350 references to Old
Testament verses. By careful
examination, scholars have
determined that 300 of these
are from the Septuagint and the rest are from the Hebrew Old Testament*. They have shown that Jesus Christ Himself, quoted from the Septuagint.
Early Christians used the
Septuagint to support Christian teachings.
For the first 300 years of
Christianity, there was no Bible as we know it today. Christians had the Old Testament Septuagint, and literally hundreds of other books from which to choose. The Catholic Church realized early on that she had to decide which of these books were inspired and which ones weren't. The debates raged
between theologians, Bishops,
and Church Fathers, for several centuries as to which books were inspired and which ones weren't. In the meantime,
several Church Councils or
Synods, were convened to deal
with the matter, notably, Rome
in 382, Hippo in 393, and
Carthage in 397 and 419. The
debates sometimes became
bitter on both sides. One of the
most famous was between St.
Jerome, who felt the seven
books were not canonical, and
St. Augustine who said they
were. Protestants who write
about this will invariably
mention St. Jerome and his
opposition, and conveniently
omit the support of St.
Augustine. I must point out here that Church Father's writings are not infallible statements, and their arguments are merely
reflections of their own private
opinions. When some say St.
Jerome was against the
inclusion of the seven books,
they are merely showing his
personal opinion of them.
Everyone is entitled to his own
opinion. However, A PERSONS PRIVATE OPINION DOES NOT CHANGE THE TRUTH
AT ALL. There are always three sides to every story, this side, that side, and the side of truth.
Whether Jerome's position, or
Augustine's position was the
correct position, had to be
settled by a third party, and
that third party was the
Catholic Church.
Now the story had a dramatic
change, as the Pope stepped in
to settle the matter. In
concurrence with the opinion of St. Augustine, and being
prompted by the Holy Spirit,
Pope St. Damasus I, at the
Council of Rome in 382, issued
a decree appropriately called,
"The Decree of Damasus", in
which he listed the canonical
books of both the Old and New
Testaments. He then asked St.
Jerome to use this canon and to write a new Bible translation
which included an Old
Testament of 46 books, which
were all in the Septuagint, and a New Testament of 27 books.
ROME HAD SPOKEN, THE
ISSUE WAS SETTLED.
"THE CHURCH RECOGNIZED ITS IMAGE IN THE INSPIRED BOOKS OF THE BIBLE. THAT
IS HOW IT DETERMINED
THE CANON OF SCRIPTURE.
St. Jerome acquiesced under
obedience (Hebrews 13:17) and
began the translation, and
completed it in 404 A.D.. In
405, his new Latin Vulgate* was published for the first time.
*The word "vulgate" means,
"The common language of the
people, or the vernacular".
The Decree of Pope St. Damasus
I, Council of Rome. 382 A.D....
ST. DAMASUS 1, POPE, THE
DECREE OF DAMASUS:
It is likewise decreed: Now,
indeed, we must treat of the
divine Scriptures: what the
universal Catholic Church
accepts and what she must
shun.
The list of the Old Testament
begins: Genesis, one book;
Exodus, one book: Leviticus,
one book; Numbers, one book;
Deuteronomy, one book; Jesus
Nave, one book; of Judges, one
book; Ruth, one book; of Kings, four books; Paralipomenon, two
books; One Hundred and Fifty
Psalms, one book; of Solomon,
three books: Proverbs, one
book; Ecclesiastes, one book;
Canticle of Canticles, one book;
likewise, Wisdom, one book;
Ecclesiasticus (Sirach), one
book; Likewise, the list of the
Prophets: Isaiah, one book;
Jeremias, one book; along
Esdras, two books; Esther, one
book; Judith, one book; of
Maccabees, two books.
Likewise, the list of the
Scriptures of the New and
Eternal Testament, which the
holy and Catholic Church
receives: of the Gospels, one
book according to Matthew, one
book according to Mark, one
book according to Luke, one
book according to John. The
Epistles of the Apostle Paul,
fourteen in number: one to the
Romans, two to the
Corinthians, one to the
Ephesians, two to the
Thessalonians, one to the
Galatians, one to the
Philippians, one to the
Colossians, two to Timothy, one to Titus one to Philemon, one to the Hebrews. Likewise, one book of the Apocalypse of John.
And the Acts of the Apostles,
one book. Likewise, the
canonical Epistles, seven in
number: of the Apostle Peter,
two Epistles; of the Apostle
James, one Epistle; of the
Apostle John, one Epistle; of
the other John, a Presbyter, two Epistles; of the Apostle Jude the Zealot, one Epistle. Thus concludes the canon of the New Testament.
Likewise it is decreed: After the
announcement of all of these
prophetic and evangelic or as
well as apostolic writings which we have listed above as
Scriptures, on which, by the
grace of God, the Catholic
Church is founded, we have
considered that it ought to be
announced that although all the Catholic Churches spread
abroad through the world
comprise but one bridal
chamber of Christ, nevertheless, the holy Roman
Church has been placed at the
forefront not by the conciliar
decisions of other Churches, but has received the primacy by the evangelic voice of our Lord and Savior, who says: "You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My Church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it;
and I will give to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and
whatever you shall have bound
on earth will be bound in
heaven, and whatever you shall
have loosed on earth shall be
loosed in heaven."
his list of 46 Old Testament and 27 New Testament books was reconfirmed in the Council of Carthage in 397 A.D.. St.
Jerome's translation, "The Latin Vulgate"*, is to this day, the official Bible of the Catholic
Church. The Bibles which
Catholics use today, have the
same 46 books in the Old
Testament as they have had
since before the beginning of
Christianity.
I have not seen a Protestant
writing giving recognition to
Pope St. Damasus I, or of even
the barest mention of his
decree, or of the Council of
Rome. This is more than half of the truth which is
"conveniently" left out of
Protestant arguments.
The Council of Hippo in 393
reaffirmed the canon put forth
by Pope Damasus I...
AD 393:
Council of Hippo. "It has been
decided that besides the
canonical Scriptures nothing be read in church under the name of divine Scripture.
But the canonical Scriptures are as follows: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers,
Deuteronomy, Joshua the Son
of Nun, Judges, Ruth, the
Kings, four books, the
Chronicles, two books, Job, the
Psalter, the five books of
Solomon (included Wisdom and Ecclesiastes (Sirach)), the
twelve books of the Prophets,
Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel,
Ezekiel, Tobit, Judith, Esther,
Ezra, two books, Maccabees,
two books."
(canon 36 A.D. 393). At about
this time St. Jerome started
using the Hebrew text as a
source for his translation of the
Old Testament into the Latin
Vulgate.
The Third Council of Carthage
reaffirmed anew, the Canon put forth by Pope Damasus I...
AD 397:
Council of Carthage III. "It has
been decided that nothing
except the canonical Scriptures
should be read in the Church
under the name of the divine
Scriptures. But the canonical
Scriptures are: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers,
Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges,
Ruth, four books of Kings,
Paralipomenon, two books, Job, the Psalter of David, five books of Solomon (Proverbs,
Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs,
Wisdom, Sirach), twelve books
of the Prophets, Isaiah,
Jeremiah, Daniel, Ezekiel,
Tobit, Judith, Esther, two books of Esdras, two books of the Maccabees."
(canon 47 A.D. 397).
It is to be noted that the book of Baruch was considered by some Church Fathers to be a part of the book of Jeremiah and as such was not listed separately by them.
The Fourth Council of Carthage in 419 again reaffirmed the Canons as defined in previous
councils...
CANON XXIV. (Greek xxvii.)
"That nothing be read in church besides the Canonical Scripture.
ITEM, that besides the
Canonical Scriptures nothing be read in church under the name of divine Scripture. But the Canonical Scriptures are as
follows: Genesis Exodus
Leviticus Numbers
Deuteronomy Joshua the Son of Nun The Judges Ruth * The
Kings (4 books) * The
Chronicles (2 books) Job The
Psalter * The Five books of
Solomon (includes Wisdom and Sirach) The Twelve Books of the Prophets Isaiah Jeremiah Ezechiel Daniel Tobit Judith Esther * Ezra (2 books) * Maccabees (2books).
The New Testament: *
Source(s):
* The Gospels (4 books) * The
Acts of the Apostles (1 book) *
The Epistles of Paul (14) * The
Epistles of Peter, the Apostle (2)
* The Epistles of John the
Apostle (3) * The Epistles of
James the Apostle (1) * The
Epistle of Jude the Apostle (1) *
The Revelation of John (1 book)
.
Let this be sent to our brother
and fellow bishop, [Pope]
Boniface, and to the other
bishops of those parts, that they may confirm this canon, for these are the things which we have received from our fathers to be read in church."
[This is Canon xxxvj. of Hippo.,
393. The last phrase allowing
the reading of the "passions of
the Martyrs" on their
Anniversaries is omitted from
the African code.]
The Council of Florence, also
called Basel, 1431-1445, was yet another Council which
confirmed the Canons of both
testaments of the Bible...
SESSION 11 4 February 1442:
"We, therefore, to whom the
Lord gave the task of feeding
Christ's sheep', had abbot
Andrew carefully examined by
some outstanding men of this
sacred council on the articles of the faith, the sacraments of the church and certain other
matters pertaining to salvation.
At length, after an exposition of
the catholic faith to the abbot,
as far as this seemed to be
necessary, and his humble
acceptance of it, we have
delivered in the name of the
Lord in this solemn session,
with the approval of this sacred
ecumenical council of Florence, the following true and necessary doctrine. Most firmly it believes, professes and preaches that the one true God, Father, Son and holy Spirit, is the creator of all things that are, visible and invisible, who, when he willed it, made from his own goodness all creatures, both spiritual and corporeal, good indeed because they are made by the supreme good, but
mutable because they are made
from nothing, and it asserts that there is no nature of evil
because every nature, in so far
as it is a nature, is good. It
professes that one and the same God is the author of the old and the new Testament -- that is, the law and the prophets, and the gospel -- since the saints of
both testaments spoke under
the inspiration of the same
Spirit.
It accepts and venerates their
books, whose titles are as
follows. Five books of Moses,
namely Genesis, Exodus,
Leviticus, Numbers,
Deuteronomy; Joshua, Judges,
Ruth, four books of Kings, two
of Paralipomenon, Esdras,
Nehemiah, Tobit, Judith,
Esther, Job, Psalms of David,
Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of
Songs, Wisdom, Ecclesiasticus,
Isaiah, Jeremiah, Baruch,
Ezechiel, Daniel; the twelve
minor prophets, namely Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi; two books of the Maccabees; the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John;
fourteen letters of Paul, to the
Romans, two to the
Corinthians, to the Galatians, to the Ephesians, to the
Philippians, two to the
Thessalonians, to the
Colossians, two to Timothy, to
Titus, to Philemon, to the
Hebrews; two letters of Peter,
three of John, one of James,
one of Jude; Acts of the
Apostles; Apocalypse of John."
The Council of Florence was
held over 100 years before the
Council of Trent, and about 80
years before the start of the
reformation.
The Council of Trent 1546-1565,
the longest lasting Council in
Church history.
AD 1546:
The Catholic Council of Trent,
called to counter changes made
by Martin Luther, again
reaffirmed the canonicity of all
46 books of the Old Testament.
Some Protestant reformers who attended, tried to get the
Church to accept the list of
books which the Jewish rabbis
had chosen at Jamnia.
The Church refused and upheld her teaching from Pope
Damasus I, and the Council of
Florence. As a result,
Protestants have the same New
Testament books as Catholics,
but their Old Testament differs
because it does not contain the
books rejected by the rabbis at
Jamnia, and much later,
rejected by Martin Luther.
It is interesting that for 1500
years all Christians accepted the same canon for the Old
Testament. Only in the last 480 years, since the reformation, has there been disagreement from Protestants

Politics › The Burden Of Continuity In Anambra State After Peter Obi by gratiaeo(op): 7:25am On Sep 20, 2013
By Ngwu Nweze
•
As the November  16 gubernatorial elections in Anambra State draw closer, the question agitating the minds of many political observers and lovers of Anambra State is who will succeed Governor Peter Obi?
The titanic battles that Governor Obi waged to reclaim and retain his electoral mandate is still fresh in people’s minds and the question of who succeeds him therefore becomes an obvious curiosity.
Perhaps, the most important reason is that after laying such a solid foundation for the accelerated development of Anambra State, Governor Obi has a duty to ensure that his legacy is not thrown to the dogs.
If what happened at the recent primaries is a reliable barometer to gauge the political climate of the state, one can hazard a guess and say that in the emerging scenario Obi is not totally unaware of what posterity requires of him.
Indeed anyone who is familiar with the trouble with Nigeria must know that a huge part of our problem is the challenge of continuity in governance. In saner crimes, administrators come and go but government stays; the vision does not completely change because a new catalyst has taken control.
The blueprint might be slightly modified at some point to meet the exigencies of the times but the basic thrust of administration remains largely unchanged.

*Gov Peter Obi
Unfortunately, Nigerian leaders have always tended to throw away the baby with the bathwater. They are so set against one another that no sooner is one administration over than the successor would discredit and sweep every achievement under the carpet.
This trend has slowed the pace of our socio-economic development to a near inconsequential level.
Fortunately, the tide is turning in some states of the federation, even if the change is not on the scale that will make a difference yet. We have seen where astute political re-engineering ensured that a good work done by ex-governor Donald Duke’s visionary leadership in Cross River is consolidated and taken to a whole new level by the incumbent Governor Liyel Imoke to the wide approval of all lovers of good governance.
We have also seen the shining example of Lagos State where ex-governor Tinubu’s dreams of a mega city are daily being given shape and form by the incumbent Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola. We have seen that for any lasting progress to be made there must be a continuity of vision over time.
And it is for this reason that all lovers of Anambra State must encourage Governor Peter Obi to take more than a passing interest in the question of who succeeds him to continue the many good work he has done in Anambra State. The last eight years of Peter Obi’s administration has changed Anambra State for good. Even Obi’s worst enemies do not dispute this. He has single-handedly hurled Anambra State from a place where people pointed at from the safety of neighbouring states to a land of peace and bustling enterprise.
Obi’s imprint is deeply felt in the health sector where he has done massive works in building and rehabilitating hospitals and getting them accredited. Obi’s blueprint for industrializing Anambra is perhaps one of the most audacious in these parts.
Anambrarians still shudder in bewilderment whenever discussions tilt to Obi’s entrepreneurial maneuvers that sired the Orient petroleum project as well as the SABMiller project.
His massive road construction works across Anambra State has ensured that no town in the state is cut off from its neighbours due to lack of access road.
In other words, in a manner of speaking, Obi brushed up former Governor Ngige’s much applauded road construction manual and took it to a level. But then, this essay is not on Obi’s achievements but on the need to ensure the continuity of his vision.
Close watchers of the Anambra guber race seem to agree that Obi has been playing behind the scene role in the on-going political chess-game to find his successor. Some people believe that Obi has made his choice in Chief Willie Obiano, who is known as a silent achiever and astute administrator.
The manner of Obiano’s emergence as the APGA standard bearer in the last primaries has left no one in doubt as to Obi’s political gamesmanship and his capacity to take the opponent off his guard.
Close observers however believe that Obi has once again proven his political sagacity with his rumoured endorsement of Chief Obiano. Not only will he be keeping his promise to Anambra North that his successor would come from that senatorial district but he would also be securing the future of Anambra State by ensuring that a well-rounded and grounded manager of men and resources will take over from him to continue the good work he has started in Anambra State. In more ways than one, the APGA candidate compares quite favourably with Obi’s profile when he vied for the gubernatorial post eight years ago. Obiano has made his mark as an urbane banker and thoroughbred professional whose powerful instincts and administrative wizardry helped Fidelity Bank survive the ceaseless gales of distress that have swept many well-founded financial institutions in Nigeria off the financial map.
Obiano is also known to have left the service of the bank on high, having kept a squeaky clean image in a career spanning close to 30 years of operation at the highest levels.
In a country where more than half of the population of banking executives either end up in jail or are hunted across the globe for one fraud or the other it is not surprising that Governor Obi is rooting for Obiano. Again, it is rather lame and preposterous to hear people argue that Obi is trying to impose his friend on Anambra. While this may be true, is it not understandable that the governor should endorse the aspirations of a candidate whose ability and proven integrity is a matter of public knowledge?
It would have been curious if Chief Obiano were not from the anointed Anambra North district or is proven to be a man of questionable character as most of his opponents in the ensuing race. But since he is a man of impeccable pedigree from the favored zone and a well-known philanthropist and leader, Obi has a sacred duty to ensure that only a man like Obiano will succeed him. Anambra State is an important Igbo state whose well-being carries a domino effect on the five Igbo states in Nigeria.

manny4life: You mean like how Chino stated his "classified" and certain news that Soludo will get APGA ticket? Till today, what was achieved? Bros, rapu okwu, after Soludo's disappointment, nothing classified "to me" is true. Reason why I'm urging people to be cautious on who they vote.
There is no way APGA will hand ticket to Soludo @ eleventh hour. Even if he's Jesus Christ and i don't see how better he's than Obiano.
Many people hate Obiano simple because of where he came from especially we from Anambra central/west

Jos— IN separate cases, two men in Plateau State allegedly sacrificed their children on the altar of anger and money ritual.
The state Police Command arrested the men along with 13 other suspects, who committed other crimes ranging from car theft, criminal conspiracy, and armed robbery to attempt to steal a vehicle with fabricated master keys.
One of the suspects, Fwangmun Habakuk, 25, from Mangu Local Government Area was said to have allegedly beaten his two year-old female child (names withheld) to death in a fit of anger, for urinating on the bed.
However, blaming the devil for his action, Habakuk said he regretted his action.
Similarly, 20-year-old Polycarp Tajan from Maikatako Village in Bokkos, confessed in an interview with newsmen in Jos, the state capital, that he suffocated his three-month-old baby boy (names withheld) to enable him cut off his tongue for money-making ritual.
Native doctor’s  demand
Tajan said his quest for money took him to a native doctor, who asked him to bring the tongue of his first-born child for the ritual.
He equally blamed his action on the devil, influence of alcohol and greed.
He said: “I was really in need of money and someone told me about money ritual. I went to meet a native doctor, who demanded the tongue of my first-born child.
“When I came home that day, the baby was on the bed and my wife was cooking in the kitchen. I used the pillow to suffocate the baby.”
Police sources said Tajan’s wife raised the alarm that led to the suspect’s arrest. The native doctor was still at large.
Robbers nabbed
In another development, a four-man gang in Shendam local government robbed a victim of his N119,000, a digital camera, DSTV decoder, DVD and two Techno handsets. They also raped the robbery victim’s wife.
The gang members were, however, apprehended by the police while trying to dispose of the decoder.
This was even as a key fabricator, Yahaya Abdullahi of Dilimi in Jos was also arrested for producing master keys used by car thieves in the area.
His accomplice, Annas Yunusa, reportedly attempted to use one of the keys to open a Honda Civic car parked along Ahmadu Bello Way in Jos, where he was arrested.
Teenagers rob Marwa operator
However, a tricycle (Keke NAPAEP) operator narrowly escaped death when a gang of four youths, three boys and one girl, who boarded his vehicle put a rope on his neck from behind, with which they allegedly dragged him down and took the tricycle away.
Other suspects were nabbed over alleged unlawful possession of AK-47 rifles and trans-border car theft.
While parading the 15 suspects, state Police Commissioner, Chris Olakpe said the feat was possible due to the synergy and collaboration between the security agencies and the public.
He advised people to secure their vehicles and warned spiritualists to stop “crimes as money does not come through human parts but through hard-work and prayers.”

Sincere 9gerian: We must assess a govt based on what it inherited and how much work was done within the period. No govt can finish all the work in a state
May God almighty bless your seed.
That is what i have been asking on this thread
What did Peter Obi inherited from Ngige
No tarred road in Awka the state capital
No Hospital (not even a room apartment)
No bore hole
No street light
No school (ANSU was seating under mango tree then)
Our government house, radio station (ABS) both Onitsha and Awka was pulled down by Ngige in conjunction with Ubah family
Awka was like desert, no meaningful infrastructure
SMH to this shameless APC gooms
