European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Muorinho: Chelsea Lack Maturity by gratiaeo(op): 3:30am On Sep 19, 2013
Jose Mourinho admitted his Chelsea side lack maturity after they slumped to a shock 2-1 defeat to Basel in their Champions League opener at Stamford Bridge.

Oscar put the Blues ahead just before half-time but the hosts were stunned by second-half goals from Mohamed Salah and Marco Streller in the Group E clash.

Mourinho described his squad as "beautiful young eggs" in his pre-match press conference but was left ruing his players’ ability to handle pressure following a second defeat in a row.

"I think the team doesn’t have the maturity and personality to deal with certain pressures of the game," Mourinho told reporters.

"We saw that at Everton when they scored just before half-time and again today. When the first negative moment arrives, which is the equaliser, the team shakes a little bit.

"We go home very sad but tomorrow morning we wake up and work on it."

Mourinho handed a debut to £30 million summer signing Willian but watched a toothless display as the Londoners struggled to create chances.

But the Portuguese accepted responsibility for the defeat and is confident that Chelsea will still progress from a group that is completed by Schalke and Steaua Bucharest.

"I don’t think it’s the time to speak about individual performances," Mourinho added. "We lost as a team. The ones who play well and not so good are all in the same bag and I’m responsible. I like players to shine and to praise them when we win, but when we lose I’m responsible.

"It was no what we expected. Of course not. In the end we lost three points and we must get them somewhere else.

"The three points we lost him, we must get them back. The objective of finishing in the top two is far from lost, we are going to fight for it and I believe very much we are going to achieve."

Politics › Third PDP Anambra Governoship Candidate Emerges In Court by gratiaeo(op): 6:53am On Sep 18, 2013
A Nigerian Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Tuesday, disqualified Tony Nwoye, as the PDP governorship candidate for Anambra election slated for 16 November.

The court gave the order in a judgment following a suit filed by Nicholas Ukachukwu, one of the aspirants in the 24 August governorship primaries.

Justice Suleiman Aliyu, said that Nwoye was not eligible to participate in the 16 November governorship poll on grounds of irregularity in his tax payment as prescribed in the electoral guideline on the PDP primaries.

He said that Ukachukwu, who came second in the party’s primaries in Anambra state, was its duly nominated candidate to contest the Nov.16 governorship election.

Justice Aliyu also restrained Nwoye from parading himself as the party’s candidate for the governorship election in Anambra state.

He restrained the PDP National Working Committee and INEC from recognising Nwoye as the party’s candidate in Anambra state.

The judge ordered INEC to recognise and screen Ukachukwu as the rightful candidate of the PDP for the Anambra state governorship election.

Justice Aliyu also ordered INEC to publish Ukachukwu’s name as the PDP candidate for the Nov. 16 poll in Anambra state.

Senator Andy Uba, who emerged in another primary witnessed by INEC, also lays claim to being the rightful candidate of the party in the state. Several court rulings have ordered the PDP to recognise him as the candidate.

Politics › Businessman Arrested For Allegedly Stripping Policewoman In Anambra by gratiaeo(op): 6:18am On Sep 18, 2013
Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ballah Nasarawa, yesterday, arrested the businessman that allegedly molested and stripped naked a female police officer (names withheld).

The suspect, whose identity was withheld by the police, was, however, released on bail immediately after visiting some important offices at state police headquarters, Awka.

Police authorities, however, admitted that the incident occurred as a result of amorous advances allegedly made by the businessman to the police female officer that created the scene, saying that nobody was actually stripped naked.

Pandemonium had erupted at Bridge Head, Onitsha, weekend, when the female police officer was allegedly molested by the wealthy suspect, who was said to have allegedly slapped a top police officer last year.

Police statement

The statement from Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, Police Public Relations Officer read: “At no point was the female officer attached to Divisional Police Headquarters, Fegge, Onitsha, and posted to Head Bridge, Onitsha, where she was stripped naked by the so-called big man.

“The said police officer continuously refused ceaseless amorous advances made to her by the so-called big man, who promised to teach her the lesson of her life for daring to say no.

“The man in question, a stark illiterate, and a tout, who manages one of the parks in Onitsha, on sighting the officer in her duty post, alighted from his car and held her uniform.

“This drew the ire of other policemen on duty, who made efforts to arrest him before he quickly disappeared from the scene.

“The other story that he once assaulted a commissioner of police in the state is baseless, unfounded and contains no iota of truth and the Anambra Police Command has arrested the so-called ‘big man.’

“He is currently in our custody, while investigation into the matter is ongoing.”

Manchester United vs
Bayer Leverkusen

Venue: Old Trafford,
On paper, Manchester United
appeared to have been drawn
into another easy Champions
League group.
However, the reality is that the
teams around them are much
tougher than it appears.
Bayer Leverkusen were one of
the breakout teams in the
Bundesliga last season and with attacking stars such as Stefan Kießling, Heung-Min Son and Robbie Kruse all lining up for this one, the German club are certainly capable of causing the
Red Devils some issues.
David Moyes will have been
glad to see the return of both
Wayne Rooney and Robin van
Persie to the goal-scorers sheet
in their recent 2-0 win over
Crystal Palace, and will be
looking to carry that
momentum into this match
here.
And while Bayer Leverkusen are definitely an upset to watch for throughout the tournament, I just can’t see them getting the job done at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are simply
too strong and too disciplined
for that to happen.
•###Prediction: Manchester
United 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen

Galatasaray vs Real Madrid
Date: Wednesday, September

This fixture last year was one
that saw Real Madrid progress
through the round of 16, but not before the likes of Didier
Drogba and Wesley Sneijder
gave the Spanish heavyweights
some serious cause for concern
in the second leg.
The Turk Telecom Arena is a
very difficult place to travel to
(just ask Manchester United
fans), and Los Blancos will have a tough time on their hands as a result.
However, this is why Florentino Perez added so heavily over the summer transfer window – to win the UEFA Champions League – and Madrid should have enough talent to get the job done here.
Between Cristiano Ronaldo,
Gareth Bale, Isco, Angel Di
Maria and Karim Benzema, look for the away side to plug away in attack against the home team, and break through in the second half for a victory.
•###Prediction: Galatasaray 1-2

Bayern Munich vs CSKA
Moscow

Bayern Munich won the treble
last season. CSKA Moscow won the Russian Premier League by two points.
That’s the difference in class
between these two sides here,
and you’d expect it to show
again in this one.
Bayern have an abundance of
talent on hand, and are the
early favourites to make it back-to-back Champions League titles.
With Pep Guardiola running the show now, there’s no reason why they can’t do just that, and they should start that campaign with an early win against CSKA Moscow.
The Russian club might be
undefeated in the RPL this
season, but the Champions
League is a different story
altogether.
And in the packed Allianz
Arena, they’ll likely feel a long,
long, long way away from home indeed.
•###Prediction: Bayern Munich
3-0 CSKA Moscow
[¤]
Viktoria Plzen vs
Manchester City

After a horror Champions
League campaign last season
that saw them eliminated from
the ‘Group of Death’ without a
victory, Manchester City will be looking for a much-improved campaign this year.
They added heavily in the
transfer window – bringing in
Stevan Jovetic, Alvaro Negredo, Fernandinho, Jesus Navas and Martin Demichelis – and new manager Manuel Pellegrini will be desperate to ensure that he gets another European season off to a good start.
Viktoria Plzen will benefit from
being at home (where they are
undefeated in domestic
competition this season), but
Manchester City are simply too
talented.
Inspirational leader Vincent
Kompany’s probable return will sure up some of the defensive lapses that have claimed the club in recent weeks, and their star-studded attack will do the rest for the 2012 English champions.
•###Prediction: Viktoria Plzen 0-3
Manchester City
[¤]
Schalke vs Steaua
Bucharest

•###Prediction: Schalke 1-0
Steaua Bucharest
[¤]
Chelsea vs FC Basel
With Jose Mourinho now
running the show, Chelsea were supposed to be an all-
conquering force.
That hasn’t quite been the case
in the Premier League this year, but they’ll be a very strong force in the European competition once more.
Knowing the disappointment of elimination last year as the
defending champions, Chelsea
will attack the competition with renewed vigour and passion.
The Champions League will be
their focus this season, and
Mourinho will ensure that the
Blues don’t slip up in games
they should win – like this one.
•###Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 Basel
[¤]
Olympique Marseille vs
Arsenal
A huge game for the Gunners
here. Marseille are a very strong team and will certainly fancy their chances at progressing through to the knockout rounds.
But if Arsenal are to book their
spot in the final 16 and emerge
from a very tough group this
year, these are the type of
games they need to take points
away from.
Mesut Ozil’s debut was a
roaring success for Arsenal, and with Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey both in career-best form, the North London club will back themselves, despite playing away in France.
However, those question marks around their defensive solidity still remain, and as long as they’re there, I can’t see any club with a strong attack failing to cause the Gunners some grief.
I think shared points on the
night, which is a probably not a bad result for either side.
•###Prediction: Olympique
Marseille 1-1 Arsenal
[¤]
Napoli vs Borussia
Dortmund
The best game this week comes
from Naples, where Napoli will
be looking to try and hold off
German giants Borussia
Dortmund.
Jurgen Klopp’s team have been
one of the best teams in world
football over the past 18
months, and will no doubt
fancy their chances at getting a
result in this one.
The biggest question mark here
is as to whose summer signings
will step up the most.
Napoli brought in a new
manager in Rafa Benitez, and
then proceeded to sign the likes of Pepe Reina, Dries Mertens, Raul Albiol, Jose Maria Callejon
and most importantly, Gonzalo
Higuain.
Even without Cavani in their
line-up, they’re still a very
strong team capable of causing
some serious damage.
But so are Dortmund – even
without Mario Gotze. The
Germans have Mkhitaryan and
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in
their line-up now, and with the
experience of success away from home in the Champions League, will prevail in this one.
•###Prediction: Napoli 2-4
Borussia Dortmund
[•]
Austria Wien vs FC Porto
•###Prediction: Austria Wien 1-2
FC Porto

[•]
Atletico Madrid vs Zenit St
Petersburg

Atletico Madrid proved a lot to
themselves in the past six
months.
Their victory over Real Madrid
in the Copa del Rey and their
strong showing against
Barcelona across two legs of the Supercopa proved that Atletico have the attacking and
defensive tenacity to withstand
even the best attacks in the
league, and they’ll likely do that again against Zenit St
Petersburg this week.
Zenit struggled in the
Champions League last season
(particularly away from home)
and it’s hard to see that
changing here.
Atletico are strong, and this
result could be their signal to
the rest of the competition that
they are, indeed, the real deal.
•###Prediction: Atletico Madrid
2-0 Zenit St. Petersburg

[•]
AC Milan vs Celtic

Celtic are a confidence team,
and right now – having
somehow made it through to
the round of 32 – their
confidence is pretty high.
They’ll no doubt still remember
their successes last year against Barcelona and co. to make it through to the knockout rounds, and will no doubt want to do that again this year.
However, having sold the likes
of Gary Hopper and Victor
Wanyama over the summer
window, one wonders where the Scottish club have the talent required to beat Europe’s elite.
Milan have an abundance of
attacking options at their
disposal, and with Mario
Balotelli and Stephan El
Shaarawy running the show,
will most likely be too strong for the Scottish club.
A packed San Siro also helps
with the intimidation factor.
•###Prediction: AC Milan 2-1
Celtic
[•]
Barcelona vs Ajax

Ajax will struggle without
Christian Eriksen, there’s no
doubt about that.
However, with Viktor Fischer
likely to take over in the middle, Ajax are certainly capable of causing havoc in the
Champions League once more
this year, and will certainly
fancy their chances at
progressing through to the
round of 16.
Yet it doesn’t appear that they’ll get any help this week.
Barcelona are obviously one of
the heavyweights in the
competition this year, and with
Neymar now added to a side
that made it to the semifinals in the past two seasons, it’s hard to see them dropping any points here.
The Nou Camp will be in full
voice, and Ajax will likely feel
like they’re a long way away
from home – unable to stop the dominance of tiki-taka that
they’re likely to experience on
the night.
•###Prediction: Barcelona 3-0
Ajax

Cuche: The figures from Ngige may not be totally accurate/correct but nobody should play down on the massive stealing/looting that has taken place over the past 8 years of Obi’s administration. He, Obi was a bundle of deceit and sorry to say, how he succeded in deceiving even the church that he was a saint baffled me. No politician that ever ruled Anambra is/was a saint. None of those performing Governors is a Saint, Fashola, Kwankwaso are no Saints. And we are not forcing them to be, our own concern is do more work, let the job done be far greater than the money stolen nobody will even notice that you helped yourself with some of the cash.
You will be amazed that the amount of money that entered Anambra State over the past 8 years may be compared to the total amount handled by all previous administration starting from the time of Ezeife. What do we get? Bribing of Churches, traditional rulers, and what have you.
Painting of old school buildings and handing the same over to churches, not releasing cash enough for the contractors to do a better quality roads with drainage, minimum wage not paid. While most States are putting Model Schools in all the LGAs, go to Rivers, Delta, Imo and see for yourself. Remember he promised us that his children will school within the State during his campaign.
Some folks were saying that amount of money that his business is now enjoying has been so and that Mr Peter Obi was a Dangote even before coming to Politics. That is not true no matter the unit of calculation for his resources.
He was a convenanted front for some Abacha Era officials/politicians who he answers Sir to. They owned large shares in Banks and Some Security company, appointed him Chairman and payed him in cash/kind for being faithful.
if he was that rich why would those banks he chaired not be able to raise N15 billion initially, and later N25 billion to stand on their own instead of going into Merger. Afterall, bank business at the time was highly profitable, he should have calmly invested since he was a ‘billionaire’ in each of them. What happened then was that the Billionaires using him as front were afraid of putting more money into the system especially when they were not sure of their Stake in the then new Obasanjo era. One of such who we all know how OBJ/Atiku administration frustruated him, that he ran away to France while his oil block was being re-negotiated. He is from either Akwa-Ibom or Cross-rivers. Others are from South-East.
During his campaign in 2002 he could only afford Peugeot 504 saloon cars, I saw the vehicles then and am not sure they were brand new. But after he was in Anambra for 4 years his campaign in 2011 was done with convoys of Brand new Toyota Landcruiser, in fact, during one campaign to Nnewi the stretch of the Jeeps most with Waterproofs could keep an eye busy for 10-15minutes.
Compared to Obi, Ngige(who is also a Catholic) did better and did not go about the churches and communities telling people he was a Saint. Ngige was selfless putting his life/family in danger and in spite of the battles he faced he was still able to work with money available then, not that he did not help himself with some of the State Funds but the job done far outweighs whatever he might have stolen that even OBJ in his hatred for Ngige could not send his Barking and Bitting Bulldog EFCC against him. PETER OBI should be celebrating because the present EFCC is in Coma.
From nothing to substandard eh?

Politics › UN Confirms 'chilling' Sarin Gas Attack In Syria by gratiaeo(op): 6:45am On Sep 17, 2013
The United Nations revealed
what it called "chilling" details of a sarin gas attack in Syria,
leaving the major powers to
battle over who was responsible.
UN chief Ban Ki-moon
condemned the use of chemical
weapons in Syria as "a war
crime" as the country's conflict
again spilled into neighboring
nations, with Turkey saying it
had shot down a Syrian military helicopter.
UN experts said they had
gathered "clear and convincing
evidence" that surface-to-surface rockets took sarin gas into the opposition-held Damascus suburb of Ghouta on August 21.
The United States, which had
threatened a military strike on
Syria over the attack, says more than 1,400 people were killed in Ghouta.
Ban said the report prepared by the experts "makes for chilling reading."
He added that the use of sarin
had been proved "unequivocally
and objectively" and that the
Ghouta attack was "the most
significant" with chemical
weapons since Saddam Hussein unleashed poison gas in Halabja, Iraq, in 1988, killing thousands.
Ban described how doctors
treated civilians with no external signs of injuries in the streets of Ghouta in the hours after the attack and that the weather conditions had maximized the casualties.
"The downward movement of air would have allowed the gas to easily penetrate the basements and lower levels of buildings and other structures where many people were seeking shelter," Ban said.
"The environmental, chemical
and medical samples we have
collected provide clear and
convincing evidence that
surface-to-surface rockets
containing the nerve agent sarin were used" in Ghouta, said the report by UN inspectors who were in Syria when the attack was staged.
The experts concluded that
"chemical weapons have been
used in the ongoing conflict
between the parties in the Syrian Arab Republic, also against civilians including children on a relatively large scale."
A separate UN-mandated
independent human rights
inquiry announced separately on Monday that it was investigating 14 alleged chemical weapons attacks in Syria.
Ban would not say who had
carried out the attack.
"We may all have our own
thoughts on this, but I would
simply say that this was a grave crime and those responsible must be brought to justice as soon as possible," Ban told reporters.
On Friday, he said Assad has
"committed many crimes against humanity."
The United States, Britain and
France all insisted that the
report shows Assad's forces had used the weapons.
The US ambassador to the
United Nations, Samantha
Power, highlighted the use of a
122mm rocket, which she said
only government forces had.
She also pointed to the "high
quality" sarin used in the attack.
French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said there was "no doubt" that government forces were to blame, while British Foreign Secretary William Hague said the report made it "abundantly clear" the Syrian regime was behind the attack.
Russia's UN envoy Vitaly
Churkin, however, said after a
Security Council meeting on the report that there should be more investigation into who was responsible.
Moscow has sided with Assad in blaming opposition rebels for the chemical assault.
The UN experts' report will now become a key weapon in a
Security Council battle over how much of a threat must be made against Assad to make him disarm.
France and Britain will soon
send a draft resolution to other
Security Council members
demanding a threat of sanctions if Assad does not keep to a disarmament plan and for the chemical attacks to be referred to the International Criminal Court, diplomats said.
The council is expected to start
negotiations this week.
The French, US and British
foreign ministers called for a
"strong" resolution after a
meeting in Paris.
US Secretary of State John
Kerry said: "If Assad fails to
comply with the terms of this
framework, make no mistake we are all agreed, and that includes Russia, that there will be consequences."
Kerry and Russian Foreign
Minister Sergei Lavrov agreed a plan on Saturday under which Syria's chemical weapons would be eliminated by mid-2014.
Russia has agreed the plans
must be backed by a Security
Council resolution but rejects
any move to include the threat
of force into a UN text.
Lavrov said such threats could
kill off hopes of a peace
conference on the 30-month-old conflict in which more than
110,000 people, according to
activists.
Kerry was due to meet Thursday to discuss the issue with his counterpart from China, which has welcomed the agreement but has sided with Russia in its resolve to veto any UN Security Council resolution against Syria.
Fighting has worsened in Syria
as the diplomatic wrangling goes on and Turkey said it shot down a Syrian military helicopter on Monday after it entered Turkish airspace.
The Syrian MI-17 helicopter was detected two kilometers (1.2miles) inside Turkish airspace and shot down by two F-16 jets five minutes later after failing to heed warnings, Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc told reporters.
"It was continuously warned by our air defense," Arinc said,
adding there was no information about the fate of its crew because the helicopter fell on Syrian soil.
Arinc said Turkey has changed
its military rules of engagement in response to repeated gunfire from the Syrian side.

Oyo State Police Command has arrested a man (names withheld) for allegedly raping a girl in Oluyole area of Ibadan.

He was said to have been caught raping the girl in a bush.

She said: “The father of the victim, who reported the crime, said he heard his daughter screaming in a nearby bush and that when he rushed there, he saw the suspect on top of his daughter, having canal knowledge of the victim by force.

“The father said he saw the suspect holding the girl by the neck.”

bloggernaija: Same thing everywhere all over the world
.pressure on healthcare especially as regards capacity.
Manpower is another issue because we consistently lose our best doctors to other countries.
You can expect worse in a place like nigeria where you have
Lagos
35 laggards states with 3 exceptions
and an absolutely useless federal government.
Imagine a situation where Lagos has to cope with only the influx from neighbouring states and with other states pulling their weight.
That is why countries are strict with their immigration policy.
Nobody want pressure on infrastructure and social services .
By the way,who do you want to replace ACN with.
FEEDEEFEE?

MEANWHILE BELLO ISIAKA SOUNDS LIKE THE NAME OF AN IMPOSTOR OR PEEDEEPEE HACK
Crap for your self

bushwailo: Pictures ?? What pictures ?
The pictures only exist in the head of his lunatic followers .
I have waited for years for the pictures because on visiting the state, there absolutely nothing in Awka, Nnewi or Onitsha.
There have been pictures from Imo, Enugu and even Abia
All we get from Anambra is model pictures of proposed projects most of which another MASSOB Member has just listed.
Most of the projects here are uncompleted in 8 yrs and are very poor quality.

Look at a typical Obi bandwagon post

Completely devoid of any pictures asides lies.
If that thread was for any other state it would've been littered with pictures.

Show me pictures or shut up my friend !
This 2013 not 1966, the state is in need of real development not another clown.
If you are not stupid enough you would have no that the places i mention do exist, why not foolishly go there and see if those projects are not completed.
As for your information we Anambarians are too big to post pictures of hotels, private schools, churches, beautiful residential houses etc as Governors achievement like others
This can help Ɣ☺ΰ
