2027: Sokoto youths beat up Imam over campaign inside Mosque amid escalating insecurity, hunger


An imam identified as Malam Sadi Ginau was reportedly attacked in Sokoto State after the Maghrib prayer on Monday evening following remarks that sparked outrage over supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket for the 2027 election.

The youth in Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State reportedly beat up the Islamic cleric after he allegedly used a mosque sermon to campaign for Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election and urged worshippers to support a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

According to a viral video obtained by BusinessDay, the incident reportedly followed remarks attributed to the imam during the sermon, in which he allegedly told worshippers that anyone unwilling to support a Muslim-Muslim ticket should examine their faith.

The incident occurred after Ginau canvassed for the re-election of the APC ahead of the 2027 election and expressed support for a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Eyewitnesses claimed that before discussing the issue, the imam said he had received a directive from the leader of the Izala Movement in Plateau State to support the APC from the top to the grassroots.

The statement reportedly sparked protests among some youths in the mosque, who began shouting, “It is a lie.”


The situation allegedly escalated, with some youths throwing stones and physically assaulting the imam.

Security personnel reportedly arrived shortly afterwards and intervened to prevent the situation from escalating further.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged directive, as well as the identities of those involved in the reported attack, could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report.

Atiku is simply a desperate politician looking for power by any means possible. Going back to subsidy is ruinous for our nation. What is more important is ensuring that the gains are well spent to impact positively on the people's lives. We need to focus more on our Governors and LGs to achieve that. Also, we need to review the constituency projects being handled outside the regular budget plans. It's easy for fraud to thrive in that situation.

You were always using the statement "we need to ..."
Who be the "we" in those statements? The Government that still doing the looting right? And they will review it for you.

Subsidy will not affect Dangote refinery. That means if Dangote is selling petrol for 1200 naira, the government could pay 700 naira then the citizens will pay 500 naira.
The government could pay subsidy to refinery owners.
Another way also it could be done is government paying a reduction in crude oil purchase by refineries, in return they could bring down the cost of the finished product.
