Though the Liberian is truly aware of his action, he did that so that the giant of Africa will come out to fight d disease and he is winning the sacrifice. |

LASG on Tuesday confirmed that the female medical doctor who tested positive to the Ebola Virus after treating a Liberian diplomat that died of the disease after arriving in Nigeria is still alive. The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris disclose this when addressing newsmen at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, that the female medical doctor who attended to the case of Ebola Virus Disease at a private hospital in Lagos is the only confirmed case to date out of the eight primary contact under clinical surveillance and care. “Her being infected is largely due to the fact that she was a primary contact when the index case presented. At that point in time, the disease was not known to have been imported into the country”, Idris explained. He stressed that the essence of the briefing is to highlight the mode of transmission of Ebola Virus Disease stressing that the disease is transmissible through direct contact with broken skin, mucous membranes and secretions of an infected person or through direct contact with materials and surfaces that have been contaminated by an infected person. This is a call for vigilance as human to human transmission is only achieved by physical contact with a person who is acutely and gravely ill from Ebola virus through body fluids such as blood, urine, stool, saliva, breast milk and semen. Burial ceremonies where mourners including family members have direct contact with patients who died of Ebola have also played a role in the spread of the disease”, Idris said. The Commissioner noted that in Africa, infection has also occurred through the handling of infected chimpanzees, monkeys, gorillas, fruit bats, antelopes and porcupines adding that there has been no case of transmission by domestic animals like pigs. He urged everyone to be vigilant especially with regard to relating with people who are ill, stressing that there is no cause to panic as long as basic precautionary measures such as hand washing, adoption of appropriate waste management and enhanced personal and environmental hygiene are adhered to. Idris opined that precautionary measures such as hand washing, adoption of appropriate waste management and enhanced personal and environmental hygiene is relevant especially when large congregations are expected with a mix of people from other part of the world and commended the responsiveness and cooperation received from the Redeemed Christian Church of God in this regard during the church’s on-going Convention. While appreciating various health workers who have selflessly committed to this cause of preventing the spread of the virus in the areas of contact tracing, case management and decontamination, the Commissioner appealed to other health workers like doctors, nurses, environmental health workers and phlebotomists to come on board and complement the state health workforce. He also appealed to striking doctors to return to work and urged other health workers to sheath their swords and embrace team work in the drive to stem the spread of the disease in the state. “We also count on the cooperation of the good people of Lagos State as your government, in partnership with the Federal government may need in the course of taking decisions in the overriding interest of the public, institute measures that may be considered inconvenient to some people”, Idris said. He explained that relevant digital platforms have been set up for ease of reference, information and communication flow and that the platforms include Help line: 0800 EBOLA HELP (0800326524357); Website: ebolaalert.org Facebook: fb.com/ebolaalert; and Twitter: @ebolaalert. Also present at the briefing were the Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr Wale Ahmed and his Information and Strategy counterpart, Mr Lateef Ibirogba. Boko Haram: "Embrace Amnesty" as Niger Delta Did. With the incessant attacks carried out by the Boko Haram sect in the country, the Traditional rulers in Bayelsa State are appealing to the sect to sheathe their swords and embrace amnesty like the former militants of the Niger Delta region did. The royal fathers, under the aegis of EA/EJA Oil Field Traditional Rulers Leadership Forum made the call in Yenagoa after a meeting with management of Shell Petroleum Development Company. The group is made up of traditional rulers from Bassan, Mein and Iduwini kingdoms in Ekeremor and Southern Ijaw Local Government areas of Bayelsa State. Spokesman of the forum and paramount ruler of Amatu 1 community in Ekeremor council, HRH Decca Keredei, described the insurgency as senseless. Keredei argued that the oil wealth of the Niger Delta region was more beneficial to the North than the South, saying “the unity of our dear country is more beneficial to the North than the South because they are enjoying oil resources more than the communities where the oil is found.” He said 11 communities comprising Amatu 1 and II, Bilabiri 1 and II, Letugbene, Orobiri, Azamabiri, Ogbeintu, Agge, Ezetu and Ekeni produce over 120,000 barrels of oil per day, but suffer neglect and abject poverty. Also condemning the recent suicide attack on former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari(rtd.) and other acts of terrorism by the sect, Keredei described it as unfortunate and inhuman.” Meanwhile the Bayelsa state traditional rulers are not the only ones calling on the sect to sheathe their swords. On July 16, it was reported that the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has called on the dreaded sect to sheath its sword and embrace peace. The Boko Haram Sect have continuedto carry out horrible attacks, killing thousands of innocent lives, injuring several while displacing many fro their homes. Just recently on July 23, it was reported that the sect gruesomely murdered a Nigerian Air Force Officer in Borno State, jubilating as they paraded with his beheaded head. In May, it was reported that the Federal Government has indicated its willingness to grant amnesty for the Boko Haram insurgents. However, there has been mixed reactions, while some Nigerians think the Amnesty deal is the right move someother Nigerians think its the wrong move following the continued killing and bombings of innocent citizens by the sect. What do you think? Source: http://ask9ja..com/2014/08/boko-haram-embrace-amnesty.html |
Ramsey Nouah “I Don’t Have A University Degree, Nigerian Movie Stars With Fake British Accent Must Be Arrested” One of the cutest actors in the Nollywood movie industry, Ramsey Oluwatokunbo Nouah has recommended jail term for Nollywood stars with fake British accent. In a recent chat on Sahara TV, hear what Tokunko said: “University degree or no degree, the phonetics on Nollywood movies is still very, very atrocious. It should be an arrestable offence (punishable by life imprisonment) for any Nollywood actor/actress that did not school in United Kingdom to have a British accent. Polluting the atmosphere with fake accent is criminal ”Do you agree with him? Watch the Video Interview Here : http://ask9ja..com/2014/08/arrest-nollywood-stars-with-fake.html |

An earthquake shook buildings in Johannesburg and surrounding areas in South Africa's most populous province on Tuesday. At least one person was killed and three were injured, medical staff said. The magnitude-5.3 quake was centered in Orkney, 170 kilometers (105 miles) southwest of Johannesburg, the U.S. Geological Survey said. One man died when a wall of a disused mining building fell on him, said Werner Vermaak, a spokesman for emergency responders working in the Orkney area, a center of gold-mining operations. Mine managers ordered the evacuation of workers from shafts and there were no immediate reports of casualties underground, Vermaak said. Three people were hurt when the quake damaged a training center at a mine, said Phoka Sefali, a receptionist at a hospital in Orkney. "The roof fell on them, but they haven't got serious injuries," he said. Hospital staff were on standby, awaiting the outcome of safety checks on miners who were underground at the time of the earthquake, Sefali said. Quakes are a concern to mining companies that operate around Johannesburg, the biggest city in Gauteng province. Mining is a traditional pillar of industry in South Africa. Lindy Sirayi, a guesthouse owner in Orkney, said the tremor broke glass lampshades and cracked a wall, and that dogs started barking during the quake, which lasted about a minute. Aftershocks were felt, but the electricity in the guesthouse stayed on, Sirayi said. The quake was also felt in Pretoria, the South African capital, and Hartbeespoort, a nearby resort town. The area has periodic, moderate tremors, though the quake on Tuesday was one of the strongest in recent years. Source: http://ask9ja..com/2014/08/earthquake-hit-south-africa-killing-one.html
