John Obi Mikel’s Chelsea boss José Mourinho has raised the prospect of Chelsea finishing the 2013/14 season without a trophy. The former Inter Milan coach made the remark when asked about finishing empty-handed in an interview ahead Saturday’s tie against Crystal Palace, describing it as “possible” given the intensity of the competition, as he continues to manage the levels of expectation at the Bridge since arriving from Spain. I think it’s possible to happen. We are competing against very important teams. You go to the Champions League and you see what is there and in the three domestic competitions, there are six contenders or four in the Capital One Cup because others [Arsenal and Liverpool] are out. -We are in a transitional period but given my personal approach, my personal philosophy of life, the nature of the club, the nature we want everybody here to have. Mourinho said on the theguardian.com. But the manager admitted that such a scenario would be considered as unacceptable by himself and everyone at the club. it’s not acceptable [to win nothing. We want to think that is not acceptable. We have to work hard to try for that not to happen. The coach added. But the manager admitted that such a scenario would be considered as unacceptable by himself and everyone at the club.

Here is Prime Soccer Blog's top 10 most underrated stars in FIFA 2014 10. Gylfi Sigurdsson - 77 Icelandic midfielder Sigurdsson - who suffered World Cup playoff heartbreak at the hands of Croatia earlier this week - often frustrates Tottenham fans with his inconsistency but, in a season where Andre Villas-Boas' men have looked rather toothless in attack, he has provided a rare bright spark. 9. Alvaro Arbeloa - 77 While obviously not one of the more celebrated members of the modern Spanish squad, full-back Arbeloa is a model of consistency who has been playing at the very highest level for a number of seasons now. 8. Matija Nastasic - 77 Although he certainly did not cover himself in glory following a mix-up with goalkeeper Joe Hart that cost Manchester City a potentially valuable point at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League recently, a rating of just 77 seems harsh on Serbian international Nastasic who has otherwise established himself as one of European football's most-promising young defensive talents. 7. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - 77 While his recent injury woes may have led many to overlook his talents, Oxlade-Chamberlain enjoyed a very strong campaign for Arsenal last year and made considerable waves for England on the international stage. 6. Wojciech Szczesny - 79 While he has often polarised opinion among Arsenal fans, Polish goalkeeper Szczesny has progressed well and has gradually improved his reputation from somewhat of a laughing stock and the weak point of Arsene Wenger's backline into one of the Premier League's most reliable stoppers. 5. Ramires - 80 At first glance, 80 might not seem a rating to complain about. 4. Rafael - 78 Right-back Rafael has not always been a darling of the Old Trafford faithful, but he has evidently worked tirelessly in recent seasons to establish himself as an important member of the first-team set up at Manchester United. 3. Michael Carrick - 82 Again, 82 is certainly not a terrible rating by any means. However, in this case, I certainly do not think that it accurately reflects the massive importance of the player in question. 2. Neymar - 84 Many players would surely be downright chuffed with a seemingly lofty rating of 84. However, for a footballer of Neymar's talent and enduring class, it is curiously low. 1. Paul Pogba - 79 In my humble opinion, Pogba is comfortably the most underrated star on the latest edition of the popular FIFA series. www,primesoccer..com What do you think? |

The 50-year-old Portuguese judged last season with Real Madrid, when his stellar side walked away with only the Spanish Super Cup, to be his worst. He is anxious not to avoid a repetition. "It's not acceptable," he told reporters after training for Saturday's home Premier League clash with Crystal Palace. "For my philosophy of life for the nature of the club, it's not acceptable and we do not want to accept it." Failure has been unacceptable at Chelsea since Roman Abramovich bought the club 10 years ago, ploughing billions into their success. The Russian has said goodbye to nine managers in his 10 years at Stamford Bridge, despite the club winning two European and nine domestic honours plus two Community Shields in that time. Mourinho fell out with Abramovich in 2007 after three seasons that included two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two League Cups. His return has hardly been smooth with erratic performances leading to defeats by Basel in the Champions League, and Newcastle United, Everton and Stoke City in the Premier League. Chelsea are third in the Premier League going into Saturday's game. Facing a Capital One (League) Cup quarter-final at Sunderland on Tuesday and Premier League clashes with leaders Arsenal and second-placed Liverpool either side of Christmas, he considered the possibility of failing to win silverware with the Champions League knockout stages also looking tough. "I think it's possible that it could happen because we are competing against very strong teams. Six strong contenders for every competition," he mused. Mourinho said his task in his second spell was tricker because he had to meld a team of ageing stalwarts, such as John Terry and Frank Lampard with the developing talent of Oscar, Juan Mata, Eden Hazard and Andre Schuerrle. "I chose a difficult job," he said. "The style of play is very different from the style we had in the past...we know the situation needs time and patience but we are in a tough league where there is no easy match. "It would be easy to say we want four, five, six years (to build the team) but this is not me and this is not Chelsea and this is not what we want for the players. "We are not favourites but we want to fight like favourites. The best way to improve is to put pressure source: www.primesoccer..com

Mikel 2.JPG Super Eagles player John Obi Mikel has stated that he is more concerned about the threat of Iran and Bosnia, rather than that of Argentina. Nigeria was drawn in group F alongside Argentina,Iran and Bosnia Herzegovina for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The Chelsea midfielder said that Nigeria should be careful about what the perceived underdogs can do,as they could be out to prove a point, adding that the games against Iran and Bosnia could be tougher than that of Argentina. “It was a good draw but not an easy one. All the teams at the World Cup have same dream and that is to win. We will take all the games as they come with all seriousness. We will go for victory in the opening game against Iran; the first game is always very important in such a competition. Then, we do so for the other games. I am sure we will progress from the group,” Mikel was quoted as saying on MTNfootball.com. “Argentina are favourites but Iran and Bosnia may be tougher. We will face all of them with seriousness and the zeal to win.” Mikel will be making his first appearance at a FIFA World Cup tournament, having missed the last one in South Africa 2010 due to an injury. “I’m looking forward to Brazil with great expectation. It will be a great and fruitful tournament for us, looking at our team right now we are good enough to do well in Brazil,” he said. “I want my nation to do well as a team and I also want to do well as a player. “We did our best at the FIFA Confederations Cup (in spite of the poor results), but the World Cup is a different tournament. We want to go back there and finish the business in Brazil.” |

Somebody recently wrote that Arsenal’s current regular back four have never lost a match in the Premier League while playing the entire game together. Thankfully with the internet being an excellent research tool, it looks like this hard-to-believe claim looks to be true. This back four consists of Bacary Sagna, Per Mertesacker, Kieran Gibbs and Laurent Koscielny. They’ve been together since Mertesacker was signed in August of 2011. In fact, the last time they allowed a goal against was in their 4-1 win against Norwich back in October, which was 470 minutes ago. The team has lost games with Thomas Vermaelen, Carl Jenkinson, Sebastien Squilacci, Andre Santos and Johan Djourou in the back four, but not with the four regulars of Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs and Sagna playing together. So even though the Gunners are thought to be a little bit on the weak side defensively, it appears that may be a bit of a myth, at least when the regular four defenders are healthy and on the pitch together. I guess they don’t have to take a back seat to the Gunners' solid defence of the past with defenders Martin Keown, Tony Adams, Nigel Winterburn and Lee Dixon in the squad. It’ll be interesting to see how long the current back four can keep their streak alive. http://www.primesoccer..com/2013/12/arsenals-current-back-four-have-never.html www.primesoccer..com |

The 24 Japanese international has barely featured under David Moyes and will certainly be considering his options, with former club Borussia Dortmund also said to be keen on the attacking midfielder. Kagawa had an average first season at Old Trafford but was some way below expectations that were created following his two explosive seasons in Germany, during which he helped Jurgen Klopp’s side to back to back domestic titles. However his chances have become increasingly limited during the current campaign with Moyes only offer Kagawa three Premier League starts thus far this season. One wonders why Jose Mourinho would be interested in the Kobe born attacker when he can’t even find room for Juan Mata in his first team set-up, the Spaniard having won the Blues Player of the Year awards in each of the last two seasons. Tottenham on the other hand could perhaps benefit from some more effective options in the final third after Andre Villas-Boas’s poor start to the season despite the spending of over £100m on new additions to his White Hart Lane squad. source: www.primesoccer..com |
It was the first brace of Wilshere’s senior career and took Arsenal to the brink of qualification - but despite having claimed four wins in five games in Group F, they still require a point against Napoli at the San Paolo in their final fixture to be sure of progress to the next round. Wenger revealed his incredulity at how competitive the group has been, and also praised Wilshere for adding goals to his game, with the midfielder claiming his third and fourth strikes in his last eight club games. “He's coming back to a good level now,” Wenger said of Wilshere. “You could see that on Saturday [against Southampton] and again in this game. He has started to score goals and I like what I see from him in this game,” Wenger continued. “He is starting to think, 'what Aaron Ramsey can do, I can do'. You can see [against Marseille] that he is free to move in from his position on the flank and he does that in an intelligent way.” Arsenal’s attacking threat also pleased the Frenchman, as he pointed to the wide range of scorers the team has had in recent games as evidence of their potency. “What is most important in a good football team is that many players can score and that many players can get chances,” Wenger noted. “This time it was him [Wilshere] and another time it will be someone else source: www.primesoccer..com |
Football (or soccer to my American brethren) brings hours of laughter. it has been proven along times and that is exactly what I will be doing in this post. Here's ten stories from everywhere that will get you laughing 10. Three fans were talking about the sad state of their local club; The first fan blamed...: "I blame the manager; if we could sign better players, we'd be a great club." The second fan blamed...: "I blame the players; if they made more effort, I'm sure we would score more goals." The third fan blamed...: "I blame my parents; if I had been born in a different town, I'd be supporting a decent team." 9. A man takes his seat at the World Cup Final. He looks to his left and notices that there is a spare seat between himself and the next guy. The man: “Who would ever miss the World Cup final?” The guy: “That was my wife’s seat. We have been to the last five World Cup finals together, but sadly she passed away.” The man: “That’s terrible, but couldn’t you get another member of the family, friend, or someone else to come with you?” The guy: “No…they are all at the funeral!” 8. A week before the Champions League final a few years ago there was an ad in a local newspaper which said: "Local man offers marriage to any woman that has tickets to the Champions League final. Those interested must send in photo of the tickets." 7. Hours after the end of the world, a border dispute emerged between heaven and hell. God invited the devil for conversations to find a way to resolve this dispute quickly. Satan, the devil, proposed a soccer game between heaven and hell. God, always fair, told the devil, "The heat must be affecting your brain, the game would be so one sided, don't you know all the 'good' players go to heaven?" The devil, smiling, responded "Yeah, but we've got all the refs'..." 6. A football hooligan appeared in court one day charged with disorderly conduct and assult. The arresting officer stated that the accused had thrown something into the river. Judge: "What exactly did the accused throw?" Officer: "Stones, sir." Judge: "Well, that's hardly an offense is it?" Officer: It was in this case, sir. Stones was the referee." C;ick to view 5 to 1 http://www.primesoccer..com/2013/11/top-ten-football-jokes.html |

According to reports in Manchester, Manuel Pellegrini wants Stoke keeper Asmir Begovic to be his new number one. And Joe Hart could head the other way for the second half of the season to preserve his England World Cup place. The Blues are ready to bid up to £15million for Bosnia & Herzegovina international Begovic, who has proved to be one of the steadiest goalies in the Premier League. The former Portsmouth star is strongly fancied by the Eastlands club's hierarchy and was lined up under then-manager Roberto Mancini when Hart’s form was first reviewed. Although he has dropped Hart from his Premire League team after a series of errors, Pellegrini is not fully convinced by back-up Costel Pantilimon either. Rather, he has decided the potter's Begovic is the answer to his goalkeeping problems. The fact that Begovic, 26, would be eligible for the Champions League's knockout stages makes him a live target for the January window. Stoke will hold out for a massive fee for Begovic who has over two years of his contract left to run, but the Blues have plenty of cash to spend to solve this major issue. The 26-year-old’s England place will come under pressure before the World Cup finals next summer if he loses his spot at the Etihad permanently. Going to a Premier League rival has not done Hart any harm in the past - he spent a year at Birmingham, where he first made his name. The Blues would also be happy to see Hart playing in the top flight and the World Cup to keep his confidence up - as well as his transfer value. source: www.primesoccer..com

Some UK Newspapers and football sites yesternight reported that Jack Wilshere and Ashly Cole were injured and would struggle to make England's squad as the national team continue to prepare for next year's World Cup in Brasil but the Arsenal man 21, come out to dispel the report.
