Not really, d so called "3-way" system is more efficient than "2-way" system. Imagine the headache if we had to source all different kinds of currencies when we want to do international transactions, the standardization problems that will come up. Except Africa can replace dollars with unified currency doing 2-way with all ur neighbors is not a great option.
I think it would be great for all African countries or the top 10 biggest economies in Africa, to unite and adopt a single currency that they could be using to transact businesses with the rest of the world (i.e non-African countries).

I believe we can achieve a two way system through this approach or what do you think?

RabbiDoracle:
The current system :

If a Nigerian wants to buy a shoe in China, he changes its naira to dollar first and then back to yuan to buy the shoe. Naira, dollar then yuan. 3-ways system..

If a European wants to buy a shoe in China, he changes his euro to yuan and pays for the shoe. Euro to yuan. 2-way system.

I believe the global payment system should be a 2 way system where banks in one nation will interact with the other banks there without intermediary.

For this 2-way system to be achieved, you don't need a dollar/euro or whatever currency to buy a good in China. You should source dollar if you are buying goods in the US. The same way Americans will source naira if they are buying goods in Nigeria. It is then that you will see that these dollar demands may not be for US/EU goods but could be Chinese goods or Turkish goods.

In my opinion, if a 2 way system is to be achieved, it means that global central banks will keep lots of other nations currencies to effect seamless transactions. And I think that is where digital currencies come in for ease of posting into accounts.

Because why would I want to buy something from Benin Republic that is at my backyard and I will have to make a transaction to United States of America that is thousands of miles away from me, then I get the currency and subsequently cross my backyard to go and buy the goods in Benin Republic. It is like wanting to go to Togo and I fly Air France that takes me to Paris first and later bring me back to Togo.

I want to believe it will happen in this decade.
It is actually a two way system here. Naira is easily convertible to CFA at major points (Abokis, Seme, Idi-Iroko, and many markets in Benin). You can even pay for some things in Naira there. Same goes for other Countries using CFA as their legal tender. Naira can also be directly exchanged for Ghana Cedi and SA Rand.

However, it is a black market rate people will be given for the conversion.

There are no taxes deducted by brokers. Brokers take commission on share sales or purchases. Commissions have lots of fees from various agencies incorporated into it.

For capital gain, in the old tax law, you don't pay CGT on share sales. But this revised tax law, we are still waiting to see how it will go.

I no wan pay anything jare.
According to Finance Act 2021, you can avoid it in one of three ways:

1. If the proceeds are re-invested in the acquisition of shares of the same company or any other Nigerian company within the same year of assessment shares of any Nigerian company.

2. Where the total proceeds from the disposal of shares are less than NGN100 million in any consecutive 12-month period.

3. Where the shares are transferred between an approved borrower and lender in a regulated securities lending transaction.

Good morning house. Please, how long does it take for Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers to credit a newly funded account? My transaction is yet to reflect since yesterday.
30-60 minutes after notifying them with proof of deposit via email.

There was unbundling before from what I read......
UBA unbundled UCAP, APR and maybe some few other subsidiaries.......
So there can't be any "Holding" again........all things being equal.
GTB bought back their erstwhile subsidiary from Investment One.

So, there is a possibility UBA might also buy back their former subsidiary(ies) as these subsidiaries are still within Tony's control and influence.

I disagree o! Seplat is already treading that path slowly. Their corporate governance structure has been largely influenced by the major players therein which is a red flag.

They need to ensure that their corporate governance structure is given the necessary premium it deserves or they will become Oando PLC Pro Max.

It is this optimum corporate governance structure that will ensure the necessary risk and controls are in place to mitigate against any downward trend in the price of crude oil whenever it happens.

Seven Energy Limited, an associated company of theirs is a good example of what could happen when corporate governance goes downhill.
Many thanks for your constructive response.

Seplat's corporate governance issues are being addressed. ABC Orjiako is leaving the company this month and Austin Avuru has also exited from the Board. I expect their corporate governance to be strengthened going forward.

I agree there are still more lingering issues to be sorted out including their loanbook, acquisitions during periods of high oil prices, shares award etc. However, any good investor should be able to discount those issues and find the value inherent in this business.

Moreover, I still maintain my earlier opinion that Seplat has more experienced hands in their current leadership and wouldn't want their reputation to be ruined. Hence, they forced Avuru out. You might want to check it out.

Thank you.

NB: I don't own a single share of Seplat. I hope to buy when their corporate governance and financials are improved.

Recession came in distrupting the whole balance. oil price pulmetted
Unipetrol Plc used to be a well-managed business until WT & co bought a controlling stake in the company. These guys ruined it because they have absolutely no experience in managing an oil and gas business.

Seplat is different in that they have experienced managers in their leadership.

Nigerians have lost over N600 billion in the last 4 years to Ponzi schemes and order High Yield Investment Scheme

There was a case of a lazy who lost N2 million to MBA forex and wanted to commit suicide, her friends and family raised the N2 million and advised her not to commit suicide. Unfortunately 8 months after the lady lost another N3 million in Chinmark.

We have former Ponzi scheme Investors who are now investing in the stock market.

These are there characteristics

1. They are concerned about the upside without thinking about the downside ie they have poor risk management.

2. They are always playing catch up, that is they are trying to recover the money they lost to Ponzi very fast through the stock market...

3. They are aggressive and easily offended

4. They believe this time will different, so they are always out for the next highly speculative position...

5. They have a very poor sense humour.

6. They are not ready to take responsibility for the negative outcomes of their Investments.

7. They are never happy with themselves, the cause is usually psychological

8. They are on the lookout for the next miracle that will turnaround their previous financial and Investment mistakes.
Enough of this, please.

The guy has moved on.

You should also let it go.

Access bank abi na Access bank corp?

I wish you well in your journey to join GTCO and Zenith bank at the top
Access Bank PLC shares on listed on the NASD

while that of Access Bank Corp PLC (holding company) are listed on the NGX.

Access Bank listing arrangement is unlike what other bank holding companies (FCMB, FBNH, STANBIC IBTC, GTCO) did, where only the shares of their holding company are wholly listed on the NGX.

Any specific reasons, pls?

The best corporate structure to own property is a REIT structure due to no Company Income Tax as long as 90% of profits are paid as dividends to unitholders.
Is the REIT not under the purview of the SEC?

The properties, in question, are my business premises under my personal name which I want to protect under the Nigerian Law through a company structure for the unforeseeable future.

For every problem, there is a solution and for every solution, there is a problem.
If Nigeria splits, some people would lose and some people won't. You can't help it. You own is to ensure that you don't lose what is yours.

If you intend holding real estate for a very long time, buy it in the name of a Company and get proper documentation. If you check Osinbajo's Asset declaration documents for instance, what you see majorly there are shares in specific private companies. Those companies were formed to hold assets.

That's an example of how you use the law to protect yourself and your assets.
