The best certificate you'll need is your projects. Either as a freelancer or full time employee. Certificates though, is an added advantage but not often considered except in life critical projects as found in medical fields, flights, etc. |
makurnini:My advice is learn programming, and use programming language(s) to build projects. You may succeed in googling your way to a working project. But at times when things go wrong you find it hard to fix and may atleast provide a stack trace or snippet of your errors/code to get help. If it happens that the project is so security aware, then you might have derailed your train in advance. |
It is important to note that we cannot retain failure for fear of the unknown. We must send failure (Buhari) packing in order to remind the unknown that failure to meet up to expectations of the citizens he/she will also be sent home or better still to jail. |
Buhari has failed woefully and if this represents the change he promised, then we are not buying it. |
acorntree:Seun as much as I know have or used to have many programmers under his paycheck but I believe he must have major reasons not to change a thing about Nairaland. From his replies to a thread asking similar question as this thread, about 2 or 3 years back, he seemed not to see any need to make a change. |
melodyogonna:I wasn't intending to say never, but it's out already. However, what I meant was that for so long, no post from programming section has made fp. |
melodyogonna:Why then has no post from programming section never made fp. |
melodyogonna:This is one point so real that if seun cares, should atleast say thanks to you for making this point open. |
lahp:Thanks for your word of assurance. I hope to be there with you at the end. |
CasanOva, you need to meet the really smart ones. You will be beaten in your game. |
lahp:Most of them were half completed. |
Am with you on this lahp, just that the nairaland bread of tutorials always keep me doubting. |
Nbote:The official python tutorial is awesome and it is also a good idea to match the version of your python installation with that of the tutorial as a beginner. Python is a good language and takes you through nearly all terrain. |
I don't have much experience of what you posted up there. Maybe because am not a fan of 'love at first sight'. I always do my math well but that doesn't mean there has never been a no, just that the chances has always been slim. |
Not so long ago I introduced one of my Projects; Online Computer Based Test https://cbtest.pythonanywhere.com with it's source code found in my repository https://github.com/festusali/cbtest.git. I got a few mails from people telling me their thoughts about the project. Today, I wish to share with Nairaland Programming family another open source project of mine. An online portfolio webapp where you can share your projects and link your potential clients. It works on per user profile and each instance of it can host numerous user portfolios. Each user has his own private account and message box with an easy to use contact form for the benefit of clients and the user. You can sample multiple projects, experiences and certificates. If you wish to learn more about the project, how it works or just to test things out, please visit; simpleportfolio.pythonanywhere.com. Note you can create an account and host your portfolio free of charge on the site. If you're a python developer and want to look at the source code, or to grab a copy and host using your preferred hosting provider, the source code is free and MIT licensed. clone Simple Portfolio repo from https://github.com/festusali/simple_pf.git. I want your criticism, recommendations and suggestions. I am not perfect but one step at a time, I walk towards perfection.

SetrakusRa:I don't understand it myself but some people feels the birth of others threatens their kingship (the pharaoh syndrome). |
asalimpo:You were lucky you were not banned. That domain all it's variants were banned barely a month into it's launch. |
oyolohi:I still don't understand why our lecturers can't upgrade their knowledge. I remember one assignment I was doing for year two students who were taught advanced java programming in year one second semester and are being taught html in second semester year two. I asked of their lecture slides and what they showed me was an unmodified copy of html tutorial from tutorialspoint.com. Honestly, i was dumb founded. |
oyolohi:And what have you now? |
I still can't understand this thread nor the poster. |
Chixco95:You're most welcomed |

Lleigh:Welcome back dear. I hope linda, lucien, charles, nkechi, bamidele, sam and the rest of other crews from the river, the club and the auction are all fine? ![]() ![]() ![]() |
When will we start progressing in this country? BASIC in this century? I wish to be put on track if am the odd being here. Consult your lecture notes/slides, or your senior colleagues' there you may find help easier. |
Lleigh:Good God, how beautiful today is, good news so far. Am so happy to hear from you. Hope life have been kind to you all along? |

truthsayer009:The job market within nigeria still favours php programmers and the trend may still continue for some years to come. But that doesn't take away the fact that they earn far lesser than say python devs for same job range. This could most likely be because majority of them do very little beyond installing wordpress and other scripts. |
Ejiod:Although python is fairly easier than javascript, my opinion though. I will never advice anyone not to learn javascript especially if you're a webdev. Unless you will only remain within backend and never do frontend dev. My python/django projects have come to connecting ends with different languages just trying to get things done rightly. Learning javascript was never easy but the extra challenge shapes and keeps daring me to becoming a better programmer. |
Startup00:You mustn't learn javascript before you can learn other languages but it helps to know atleast the basics. If you're confortable with html/css, and javascript seems so hard to understand, try another language to know if you will get it better. I would learn html and css then tried javascript but it sounded like I was trying to learn benghali without a tutor so I gave up and learnt python/django. By the time I came back to javascript, it was easier to grasp. |
coolcentbigman:What language are you working with? |
It is not easy and will never be easy. Being determined and knowing where you want to be and what you intend to accomplish will go a long way in keeping you motivated. One more thing, are you learning from one source and maybe never tried other tutorials else from the ones your friend gave you? Maybe you should try other tutorials. Tutorialspoint.com and w3schools.com has gentle ways of introducing programming concepts to newbies and its free. You should check them out and when you're confortable, you can move to more advanced levels. Finally, if javascript is not sitting well with you, try php first or any other language like python and you can come back to javascript when you're more prepared. Success... |
