The two girls aren't broke.. The sharp mouthed one is broke, the invitee isn't, read the unpresentable dudes story well. Pay for three people's movie ticket in this festive period, that's like 7500 minimum, then it got hiked again, all I see is a girl that didn't wantu spend outside her budget.

I love ur femi KPMG analogy

pocohantas:

Ednut my guy, I also do not wear pants after work. The only time you see me seriously dressed is at work, after that, I can't wait to get into my shorts and mini gowns.

Imagine I am coming to meet you and your friend at the cinema, your friend that works in KPMG grin. Just imagine I turn up in a faded white top, pants, ankle chain and an undersized slippers. Please, what will be Femi KPMG reaction? He might not be rude like this foolish girl, but I am sure he would wonder where you discovered me.

That young man is looking tacky, not simple. The girls are two broke creatures. Funny how girls would always go on dates without money on them. Something is fundamentally wrong with my country girls.

If that same prime minister you allegedly saw invites you to a friendly chit-chat, would you go in undersized bathroom slippers?
The dude was very not presentable, please call a spade a spade.
That same prime Minister you allegedly saw, if he was going for a meeting, would he wear such?

Dude was going to meet someone, atleast for the person's sake, be a Lil presentable

if you had a penny to your worthless name and hopeless existence then I wouldn't mind but since you're broke and everything about you is useless as the letter "P" in Pneumonia then you've got absolutely no right or moral standing to dish out advice of any form. The brain cells of the average Nigerian is myopic and completely microscopic. Guess I met the Prime Minister of Australia at Maddington train station with just shorts and flip flops waiting to catch a train to Sydney. This was the most powerful man in Australia but you'll never know. But wretched paupers just like you are very quick to rant like a hyena on heat period over shitt that are irrelevant. The funniest thing about people like you is that you're the type to want to set standards that you're even too broke to maintain. Pls do us a favour and shut the Bleep up or better still face your ashawo business and stop mentioning my moniker here from now henceforth. I'm not your type. I'm way too cool for your kind. The goal is to make money and take care of our mothers cos they're the real MVPs not some not self entitled hoe like you and your kind. If you're too broke to afford pants then you've got no reason to be in a relationship. Silly shapeless amoeba.

If all he went to the mall to do was to buy stuffs, it might be acceptable. But dude was going to meet someone, it's not fair to the person. You know how Nigerians take going to see a movie as something very serious, dude wasn't fair to his friend's image

Super reasonable response.. The slippers was even undersized.. The polo looks faded.. Look simple but presentable, simplicity is not stupidity..

Uyiii:
yah we know most girls are fvcking broke and stupid, yah we know.
but for the guy at least now, why will you even wear a bathroom slippers outside your house and to the cinema of all places, fvck the hell who you're, dress the way you wanna be addressed.
even if you be goat and don't give a flying fvck about your appearance, but at least na, put the person you gonna meet into consideration.
don't just dress like a cow because you wanna look simple, honestly that's not even how to look simple, there'r some nice slippers you can put on, not bathroom slippers naacheesy

many peeps are ostentatious in appearance, want to impress, yeh that's stupidly extreme. his own simplicity is extremity from the back, I nor wan know how much dey the akant, try dress simply well.

P.s: Lemme just leave the girl sha, even 1k you nor get but you carry your two left legs come cinema, broke goats.

The cheapest school in China is around 2000 pounds. IE universities

In Nigeria it is below 300 pounds for the most expensive university

Germans pay half their income in taxes for the freebies you mention.

Look, if we were to apply German method of funding to Nigeria, you guys would be paying half your salary as tax, and you people won't agree.

University is expensive. It is a bitter truth.

What you want is 20000000 naira education at 2000 naira. It is not possible

German economy is by far different from nigeria's. German don't have the natural resources that we've, most of their income are generated from their various industries like manufacturing, construction etc. But for Nigeria, we generate majority of ours from oil, the 2000 you mentioned, indirectly, we pay more than that, because the oil money is everybody's money, you and I are to get our share of it from the subsisization of many basic amenities and education is part of it.
If education is properly funded from the budget and not allocate all the money to servicing the lawmakers pocket, education won't be what it is now.
The wole soyinka and Co that had free education, even cheaper than now, where did the money come from?

Not like we're not paying tax, 6% from each federal worker, 10% as VAT and WHT, where are the money going to.

you are not comparing apples to apples -the average income of a Nigerian is very low -nothing compared to that of china, germany or any other western country.

Education is a right and it should not be a privilege -you talk of taxes in Germany as if the people are groaning,I have been to Waldorf,Berlin and Heidelberg and the people there have a great life in-spite of the so called high taxes you mentioned -same in Canada where education is free.

Nigeria must invest more in education -private university are not the answer because that would lead to elitism , and then the best secondary students would miss out on a university education.

In the US now ,there are some states who are introducing some form of free education -new york is one of them and I believe California has a scheme that allow free education in community colleges.

as I stated before (which you ignored) we should not be paying our politicians huge salaries (and pensions) at the expense of our children's future. I went to university of lagos and, I and many of my colleagues were about to get a great education.

Thank you for this bro.

Many are saying Germans pays 50% as tax.
A German earns 5k for job a, a Nigerian earns 500naira. How do u expect both of them to be taxed same way, there's somtin called proportionality in taxation. With the 50% that's left with the German after tax, he even earns more than a Nigerian before tax.

Let those lawmakers reduce their salaries by 70%, let the 70% go to education sector.

While I may have exaggerated the whole scenario, you're wrong to think 500 million from diploma students for a session and the 125 million paid for diploma form would be enough to maintain infrastructure, invest in researches, maintain laboratories and what have you. Unilag Students pay #25,500 only for hostel fees and not #100,000 as you earlier stated. This is paid via remitta and goes to directly to CBN. Even when you sum it all up, it still amounts to nothing, compared to what is required to fund a standard university with over 80 department.

The seven storey library being built beside Mariere hall would be worth #2 billion on completion. How many more breads does Unilag have to sell to make up for that, if the management were to fend for itself. Probably, the project wouldn't take off at all for fear of squandering a fortune on it or it would take a life time to complete.

To you, #2 billion is a huge sum of money but to a school that have one of the best teaching hospitals in Nigeria, it's merely a fraction of the fund needed. Unilag pays about #80 million on electricity on monthly basis and it would does so for at least 9 months every session.

You say so much about income but not a single thing about expenditure. May I ask why our schools are still in terrible states even after they earn so much internally generated revenue as you claim and still obtain more from the government?

I never said unilag pays 100k as school fees, the highest fee I paid was 19100..

I'm not saying that the schools should be self funded from IGR, but their IGR should go a long way in assisting their internally generated expenditures eg energy, maintenance of facilities.
Unilag doesn't pay 80m,its pays 50m for power. With their IGR, dey should be able to cover up for this cost.
TSA by this buhari govt is a good ideological but as a failed state, it's very bad.

Privatization of public university would fail from the start judging by hiw well other privatized sector are running.

The new library being constructed, it's not funded by the school. What's tetfund for?

This statement by the vc is not true. How many Nigerian student knows Harvard standard?

What students require is 100% commitment from lecturers which dey don't get.

My friends that studied building In school, the lecturers wanted the department to give them bus, funds to go and watch construction process outside school. This was nice but foolish. In school, there were more than 10 construction work ongoing, it would cost 0naira to go there, but they wanted funds to go outside. No fund, no site seeing

Most of the cash used to subsidize education in this country does not come from taxes. It comes fromthe revenue we earn from oil. (In the past it also came fromrevenue we earned fromagric...which has collapsed since the 1970's...until cocoa came back a few years ago under the last admin).

Our tax rate is 6%of our income.

Meanwhile...countries like Germany and Denmark are classic examples of countries that really use taxpayers money to subsidize education. The tax rate there is 50% of earned income.(Jideofor Abaribe, a syndicated columnist, once told the story of how he met a Danish airport worker in Copenhagen who told him, that their government collects half their salary in return for free education).

Yes the tax rate is low in Nigeria, but not too low when you bring in the principle of proportionality of tax.
The same Danish worker would earn 500naira and Nigerian worker would earn 50naira, you can't collect 50% for tax in both countries.
The only occupation in Nigeria that pays more than any other country is politics

And at the end of the day....the amount of money earned is probabaly about N50 million per annum.

Keep in mind that bills have to be paid, and things like overheads have to be paid for.

Meanwhile, the budget of a fully equipped university is about/at least $100million USD. Nigerian universites don't get up to $10million USD

I hear your argument...the problem is,the money, even as much as it sounds ,is not enough.

For sure money is not enough, unilag pays 50m monthly for energy consumed by students.

We can't compare ourselves yet to the Harvard and Yale, what dey get as grants and relief from the private sector alone is very much. But the little we've, let's spend wisely, unilag is a very good example of this.

That is what I ultimately try to tell people sometimes.

In Nigeria, we have the mentality that if we pay N100 we will get $100000 service. And we have this idea that by exporting raw materials....we are all going to have enough money to go to school!

Yes ,our parents went to school for free. In the early 1970's, an average university in Nigeria had about 2000-3000 students, and there were just six of them. Compare with today's 70 state owned universites with populaitons of at least 10000 studentss.

Me,I no like Ben Bruce...but today,he spoke the cold truth. You cannot pay N1000 for a N20million car.

I disagree sir, yes we're paying peanuts as school fees. Our school fees bin subsidized doesn't mean it isn't bin paid by someone. It's just like the fuel price then when there was subsidy, you pay little price but someone has already covered for the remainder.
So sir, peanut comes from my pocket but by virtue of my parent's tax and other parent's tax, I pay my fees in full.

These schools don't generate enough even to maintain even their gates, not to say entire infrastructure. I think reverse should be the case. Either way, there would be hike in tuition.

Who told you that school do not generate enough?
Let me speak for unilag.
500k for school fees per diploma student, and dey admit about 1k - 2k diploma students yearly, please do the Maths

25k for the entrance form, about 5k buys the form, then 1k - 2k gets admitted. Do the Maths please.

The cheapest hall in unilag collects nothing less than 100k per use, unilag has about 7of those halls of varying grandeur there's always Sha an event in unilag. Even if no event, student fellowship hold service in atleast 3 of the halls weekly. Please do the Maths.

Unilag bread is 300naira. Once you taste the bread, you get hooked, it's madly delicious. They sell atleast 500 (this is vaguely underrated score, dey sell far more than this) loaf daily.. Please do the Maths

Unilag water.. There's no student price for water o, the same price as water outside, 150 per bag..

Not to mention the shops for lease, payment for parking spacing in unilag by other organizations.

That's the few I can remember now.

Many if this schools generate loadz of funds internally. Many of them does diploma or foundation or preddegre, minimum schools fees is 150k, where does the money go to?

Govt are not doing their part, we all know that, allocating less than 10% of the annual budget for education is grossly unfair looking at the numbers of public university in Nigeria,.

The senator calling for privatization of the university, would he and his cohorts agree for their overly inflated salaries and allowance be subsidized by say 70%, even at going home with 30% of what dey earn now, dey are still going home with alot.

Privatization of public university is not the solution, dey would only end up making nigeria grossly uneducated
