It is a market for potential. Everyone's taking a bet on the next available big thing. Delap is a solid acquisition.

Delap is a proper 9. Picks the ball from the half way line, bulldozing the defenders to gain yardage, links up with his teammates and positions himself very well to strike.

I can imagine how difficult it must have been for him playing with the likes of Hutchinson et al. It was quite a poor supporting cast.

I have no doubt he’ll do well here.

If we can keep him as a third striking option or someone who can play from the wing and link up with the No. 9—like we had with Drogba, Anelka, and Kalou—I don’t see any reason to let him go.

It’s something Maresca hasn’t really had the chance to try yet. But with Sancho hopefully returning to Manchester, and both Neto and Madueke failing to impress, using Jackson out wide might not be such a bad shout—especially if we can’t secure a good left winger.

Most of these chap’s clips I saw prior to him signing for us, were actions from the LW and he was never this bad.

His linkup play is superb. I see no reason he shouldn’t excel playing out wide.

He can make that LW his as that’s his best position. Then when we have Jackson or Delap not playing, the Brazilian can still be shoehorned into the CF position. He’s that good.

For all his profligacy, I still think we need to keep Jackson around. His press game will count against certain teams.

It’s important to have players with different distinct profiles in a team.
