Hello All, I hope I am not to late in terms of getting help: I recently purchase a BB Torch 9860 and a few days ago, the phone gave me an error message state "Uncaught Exception" and has since then no functioned. It constantly displays the red led light like its going to start and then remains with a dark screen until the led light blinks again. I have followed all kinds of threads and carried out all the recommended solutions to no avail. Tried using the using the Desktop Manager Software to Update and it fails at device initialization stage. Tried using the Apploader.exe. On a few times I reached the initializing device stage and the it fails to connect to the device. One on attempt I noticed that sometimes the black screen lighted up and showed a small our glass. On one occassion it did show some error message however, when I tried using the DM software to update, it still failed at the device initialization stage. I will appreciate any help and recommendations. Thank you |
This news is rather unfortunate, for the parents who have lost their children to violence in the North and for Nigeria as a country. I urge that we do not criticizes these kids who went to Miaduguri to server, Whether we accept it or not it is the law and they were serving their country, and it wasn't an option, The government of their country simply failed to protect them, despite the fact that only so recently Youth Corpers were killed in Bauchi because on an election. It is time the Government of Nigeria and you the citizens of Nigeria stop sitting blindly behind the misconception that Boko Haram is a group of armed thugs running amok in the Northern states and begin to accept the reality that the war on terror has finally reached the shores of Nigeria in its own way. These men, whoever they are have acquired the skill to build IDEs (Improvised Explosive Devices) a talent common with terrorists, and have decided to use this skill to wage a senseless war, hiding behind some ridiculous cause centered around the evils of western education. They prefer a backward and undeveloped Nigeria one that they can associate with because they are equally backward and foolish, so foolish they don't even see that the cause which they so profess is equally as borrowed as the western education they hate. Nothing good ever comes out of terrorist and a country that is sick with terrorism is even worse. The Niger Delta militants even had a cause, but these Boko Haram have non. The war against terror in everyone fight, it is the right to be free and not to live in fear. Terror must be met with Terror and not dialogue or any form of amnesty. These men, !!!! no they are not men, they are animals, and people do not negotiate with animals. I am Italian and terrorist can never be allowed to act as boldly as these men have. The Nigerian government should stop pretending like they can handle the situation, THEY CAN'T. Even the most developed countries like the US have not be able to completely win the war against terror, so GEJ and all his people should shut up and act more. Take the war to Boko Haram, if they have to lock down the Maiduguri and all the states harboring Boko Haram terrorists and declare Marshal law in those states, then they should bloody hell do it. At least it will send a message to those supporting Boko Haram that there is no place for them in Nigeria. Nigeria should not be afraid to seek the help of experts that have fought this war and are still fighting this war, If Boko Haram is allowed to fester in the North then they will spread over Nigeria. The power is in the hands of everyone, it is time that Nigerian said NO!!!! It is enough. |
Parnassuss:You have a point Parnassuss however, asking ladies to start a life as married women at a much older age is not the answer either. Yes things were different back then, a sign of how much cultural value is lost to the demand ( in both men and women) for freedom and self expression. That is why today all over the world, you have an increasing occurrence of single parent hood, a phenomena that should not be encouraged. A younger woman who has feelings for an older man will always learn the essence of submission and embrace it as a value. Please do not miss understand, I am not saying a YOUNG WOMAN SHOULD BE FORCED INTO MARRYING AN OLDER MAN, I AM SAYING THAT IF A YOUNG WOMAN FINDS AND OLDER MAN APPEALING AND WISHES TO MARRY HIM (given the present scenario: 20 year old girl marrying a 35 year old man) THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SITUATION AS LONG AS IT IS FOR THE RIGHT REASONS. Couples who marry young and have issues have probably gone into marriage for all the wrong reasons. If it worked out for our parents in those days, and we their children turned out right, then why are we trying to discourage it? I still maintain this stand IF YOU ARE A WOMAN READING THIS THREAD, YOU NOT MARRIED, HAVE NO CHILDREN AND YOU ARE ABOVE 21, STOP LISTENING TO THE PEOPLE AGAINST AND BEGIN TO PLAN YOUR LIFE AS A WIFE A LONG SIDE YOUR CAREER. TRY TO MAKE THEM AS COMPATIBLE AS IT CAN GET. AN EARLY MARRIAGE (with all the variables being present i.e. a good education, a personal development plan and a strong career plan) WILL GIVE YOU ENOUGH TIME AND YOUTH TO UNDERSTAND AND GET WITH THE TREND OF THE WORLD OF YOUR CHILDREN. |
olo2gbenga:For the first question: My mother was 17 when she married a 29 years old writer who worked in a book publishing company. By the time she was twenty 28, she had raised 4 children, and earn a bachelors degree in law. At 32 she had two more kids and managed to bag a masters degree in social work. At sixty five she is retired from working with the united nations and is presently living with her eldest daughter and grand children in the United states. OH, I am Italian and I spent most of my life in Nigeria, in fact I am a Nigerian citizen. My father passed away seven years ago. Lastly please, women should begin to understand the need to be responsible for a family (their own family) from the age of 20. In fact seven years from twenty and your clock starts to tick. My sister is a doctor at an IVF clinic and they will tell you that the younger patients are more likely to get pregnant than older patients, older patients meaning 30years and above. Please sisters on this thread, if you as sitting your buts down and laughing at an 18 year old planning to marry some guy and you are unmarried without children, THINK AGAIN. For the second question: Only and uneducated and backward thinking culture still see women as not equal to men in specific areas such as an education and career development, a well enlightened man/husband would understand the need for his wife to fulfil/achieve most/if not all the objectives she has set for herself in life. I am a strong supporter of personal development and believe that marriage has/and should never be a barrier to personal development or life achievements in fact marriage is an addition to these values. Hence my friend, marriage should not stop any 20 year old woman from being who or what she wants to be in life (except a hooker LOL!!!) |
Honestly the answer to the poster situation is not so complex actually, it is really simple. If you love her go ahead and marry her or date her or whatever, just as long as you are honest with your intentions. However, please get her to stop calling you uncle, even if it is out of respect, she can give you all the respect you deserve without her calling you uncle. The facts here are really simple if you asked me. You can't be nearly old enough to be her father ( no unless you were an irresponsible prick when you where 10 years old LOL!!!) so that rules out those rather those unnecessary pictures posted by people who haven't really studied the facts in your post. Secondly the discussion about the girl being a child or too young would only matter if we were referring to a child ( 8years - 12years), a teenager (13years - 15 years), a mature teenager ( 16years - 17 years) or even a young adult (18years). No, in this case we are talking about an adult who has even had the experience of a university and hence if full aware of the responsibilities of dating. She is even old enough to make such decisions as marriage so, I don't know what in Gods name people are talking about especially the first few posters. |
IDINRETE:Honestly, this is beautiful. |
wazobia200:I quite agree with your first few points stating that Yoruba people are great people and they have wonderful story lines for movies compared to those seen in modern day western movies. Let me also add to these points that I don't think the true potentials of these writers and movie producers have been fully exploited and they are going to waste. I must also say that fetishism in any culture is not just done away with as you have suggested, rather it is out-grown by the community mostly because a new and more acceptable religion or doctrine is/has been introduced. There is no culture in world that has not had its past rooted in what is termed- fetish beliefs; however unlike Nigeria and many other countries, they out-grew their fetish beliefs naturally. Sorry, but Nigeria and many African countries, and countries in other continents did not have this opportunity. Instead they were forced into practicing religions that were completely alien to them. Many communities converted into Christian or Moslem communities while others incorporated these new religions into their traditional beliefs. And that is why you still have elements of fetish religions and cultures still present in Nigerian movie. Another example is in South American Brazil where both fetish and Christian doctrines are practiced together. These movies, I believe are optional viewing and not imposed on anyone. I don't believe in any way that they have limited the progress of the Yoruba people rather I think that the sentimental and sensitive nature of Christians and Moslems in Nigeria to what is scriptural acceptable and what should be acceptable in the real sense have retarded the progress of many ingenious ideas and concepts in Nigeria. |
Pastor AIO:Well my good Pastor, first of all I must say that I admire your interest in the visual arts, these myths and gods in our paintings, opera etc were once our beliefs and they general determined our culture and way of life hundreds of years ago, they are as you say it, our roots and heritage which we as Italians have preserved because we believe that even as Christians, we must never forget where we came from, it determines who we are and tells the stories of how our culture has progressed. We find our ancient religions fascinating and have chosen to preserve it and even sell it to the modern world. You should see the Greeks or visit Greece to see how serious they are with all this. And hey Pastor, Italian art is also full of Christian stuff. Have you seen the sculptures by Micheal Angelo, the paintings in St. Peters Basilica, even the more famous pictures of Jesus have their origin from Italian art. No vex o, so you no go break my balls, Bros I sabi o, I don dey Naija for 25 years now. |
I have really enjoyed this thread, most especially I have enjoyed people's response to b444's post, some are really hilarious, like Tudor, however I must say that even though I try to understand the logic behind the topic I really don't think the arguments holds enough ground. @bee444: Yoruba movie portraying balalawo's are just as good as you watching a Harry Porter movie that portrays witchcraft. These themes are more symbolic than real life. Although there are elements of these themes in today's society (not just Nigeria but all around the world) their purpose is to tell a story about where people are coming from i.e. their roots, heritage and early culture etc. These are important aspects of society because they tell about your history. Because you see babalawo being the solution to common problems in Yoruba movies does not mean that the producers are promoting babalawos. This is a movie, it is fiction (although possessing an element of truth) and what is seen in not as common as you have put it. Secondly, Nigerians are not traditionally Christains nor Moslems. They had their own beliefs tied to their own culture way back. It is the introduction of Christainity and Islam that has (sadly) demonized the old beliefs (exactly what you are doing in your response to some people). The old beliefs are just what they are -OLD- however they are not meant to be condemned or demonized. I say this to you as a non-Nigerian. I am italian and I can tell you that Nigeria does not have as many Old traditional beliefs as we do. We are born Catholics in my country however, we have preserved elements of our old beliefs so well we have even sold them to the world as classical beauty. E.g. the nine planets of our solar system are named after famous Roman gods. These gods have been used in movies, story books for children, video games etc. bee444, I encourage you as a good Christian, movies have symbolic meanings and serve their purpose in reminding us of all our history and elements of what our society was, so that tommorrow you and I can tell our descendants, this is where we came from. |
medolala:Hahahahha. RLMAO!!!!!!!! |
Fant:The minute they agreed to visit the ailing Nigerian President, they accepted that responsibility which you try to remove them from. As clerics, religious leaders or men of God (for my christian brothers) they are tasked with the virtue of integrity as well as honesty. Look around my friend, and tell me wether or not their silence on the true state of health of the Nigerian President has brought any form of stability to the Nigerian people? In the eyes of the world Nigeria has become a big joke, a country that attempts stand with an acting head, an indication that the head itself is not stable or permanent, a sign of weakness, And then you tell yourself that people are crucifying Christ. I really don't understand your point. The Christ in the bible who no trade the opportunity to speak the word for silence that he felt may bring peace or false stability. |
Seeing this verse I can not help but think that because we are human, and no matter how much we claim to be spiritual, our opinions will still be subject to our personal views and takes on particular issues. Sorry I am not half as spiritual or religious as most of the members of this thread but I quite understand that the bible verse in question does not entirely mean that women should not wear jewelry or any form of body adornment as stated or intended. Even from a liberal point of view (i.e not spiritual) it simply states that inner beauty (of the heart) should be given more priority than jewelry and all other forms of body adornments that enhance physical beauty. Yet again, I cannot help but understand why some churches and individuals misinterpret this verse based on the evident fact that today , this verse is also the excuse as to why both women and men dress inappropriately. I mean, it swings both ways, on the one hand, you should be more concerned with how you look inside but on the other, it doesn't say you should not wear what you think makes you beautiful. If we all did things that we thought were right then where are the standards to judge from? Many of you have stated that you need the intervention of the holy spirit to understand the message in the bible, I however see this differently. I believe the message in the bible is clear and broken down for even the liberal man to believe. (Just as this verse is simple to understand). The thing is we are human and most time we are subject to opinions which are subject to the knowledge we have gathered from our environment (being most times what we see and what we are told). This is why sometimes, or many times, it seems as though christian do no comply with the rules in the message of the Bible. Someone stated that Paul was against women preaching in church. I have also heard that women should cover their hair in the temple of God and I have also heard that there is a format governing how the language of tounges should be spoken in church. To be honest, while the Bible is quite static in delivering its message, Christians who receive this message are governed by a dynamic world. That is, while the Bible does not change (or is not supposed to change) human beings (Christians) are constantly changing and hence they must adapt the static nature of the Bible to their ever changing environment. Please understand that besides being a spiritual and religious book the bible is also a book which sets the laws, the morals, philosophy as well as history of a particular people that still exist today (the Jews). Hence no matter the level of spiritualism we attach to the Bible as Christians, it will always contain the opinions (which are subject to the laws, philosophy etc of that time) of the writers. If you doubt this fact, then please read the account of Jesus Christ according to all the disciples and you will see that they are not all the same even if the pattern is the same. Today women are more open to society than they have ever been. At one time in history, common women (of middle/low class) couldn't come out in public, let to even vote or rule a country. Today they do all these things and even more. The Bible is specific about a woman's place but today, that has changed and we see women taking far greater roles in society than that detailed to them in the Bible. This leaves all kinds of questions which I believe, we just should not bother about. |
To be honest I quite agree with the fact that X-Men Origins is kind of too old to be having as a discussion in 2010 however, there is also some logic in arguments that are raised here. I was part of the thread that discussed the District 9 movie and honestly, I don't think X-Men Origins is anything compared to the portrayals of Nigerians in District 9. Sorry but X-Men Origins did not portray Nigeria in anyway other countries have not been portrayed before. A Diamond smuggling cartel with armed black individuals and a rural setting with black Igbo people does not exactly mean that they have run down Nigeria or Nigerians in anyway. In fact I have seen this same portrayal of other countries in other movies. In AVATAR, I am sorry I don't get the feeling of being just some remote part of the universe at all, to be honest I don't think these two movies did any harm to the image of Nigeria unlike District 9. |
To be honest, I believe that the President is well within the country. I believe he returned as stated and is probably still receiving some level of medical care. However, I also believe that his state of health is not as described by the popular Nigerian politicians. I believe the President is still very ill and completely incapable of performing his service as the nations number one citizen. To this end, i see this whole thing more as a guise by the Northern members of the PDP to create a scenario in which they can keep a sick president in office in other to assure their interest. I think it is time for Nigerians to speak up and say no to political screen play writers and special effects/stage managers for once in their history. Must everything about this country reveal the level of corruption that has persisted for so many years now? I mean, I beg to ask the question, why would it have been so hard in the first place to instill the Vice President as Acting President when the President had been incapable of performing his duties for more that 4 months? And now that it has become obvious that he cannot perform his functions as president efficiently, why is there so much debate about replacing him with the Vice President? This whole phenomena of Nigeria and it corrupt political system just keeps getting worse. Now some people, whoever they are, just decided to go down to Saudi Arabia, and bring the man down to Nigeria as an indication that he is alive and is still the president, this is so, as mentioned earlier, to secure their interest by making sure the Vice President is still in Acting Capacity rather than a full president. What can I say, definitely a Northern agenda, indicating that this nation has not risen beyond ethnicity and foolish ideas that have never resulted in progress. I am not Nigerian, but I pray that Nigerian speak with one voice on this issue and say NO!!!!! This is country neither belongs to the Southerner or Northerner. It belongs to everyone that qualifies as a Nigerian and hence, the right to lead and to be lead must be determined by all Nigerians. If the president is ill, then he should step down from power and allow the fate of Nigeria be determined by a more capable Nigerian. If he is alive and well and fit to rule, then let him step into the light where Nigerians can see him and believe that they still have a leader who can lead them. For 5 months this country had no leader, in fact, this was a country without a mouth piece in the face of the world, well are they saying that Nigeria does not need a leader because, she has been without leadership for 5 months now, How can the selfish or self centered interest of a few greedy, corrupt individuals be the fate of an entire nation ??INACTIVE CITIZENRY. A phenomenon known to Nigeria and many other African countries. The right to ask questions and demand answers was taken away by the military rulers. But they are gone now, and this is the time to ask questions and get answers. Nigerians should stop sitting on their buts and act like everything as far as their country is concerned is THEIR BUSINESS!!!!!!!!! Keeping a sick man in power is completely foolish and an insult to the people of Nigeria, its taking them for granted and calling them fools. To lead is a privilege and not a right that belongs to a few. Nigerian should get on the radios, organize peaceful protest, drag people to court, make enough noise so the world can hear, IT IS ENOUGH. ENOUGH OF THIS FOOLISHNESS AND MADNESS. |
emilia8:This phenomena is quite common to almost all religions which were spread across the globe through colonization. Even as far back as the era of Constantinople in Rome, leader (both religious and political) have hard to merge one form of pagan worship with a popular religion such as Christianity in a bid to keep their people united. You see, on of the biggest forms for segregation amongst human beings comes from the fact that we are of different beliefs which bring different philosophies and ideologies. You find in many countries which were formal colonies of Western Nations a mixture of their traditional beliefs and that of their colonial masters. In fact days like Christmas and beliefs like Santa Claus all have pagan roots. So when see or hear Santeria, it is because the Haitian has decided not to forget his original belief instead he has decided to incorporate it into the one forced on him by his colonial masters. And believe me, to the Haitian, Christianity is the religion of their Slave Masters and a definite sign that reminds them of oppression and human rights violation. I have never personally experienced Voodoo so I cannot tell you whether or not it is devil worship but I know that on major characteristic of popular religions such as Islam and Christianity to alienate other religions by demonizing them. This is very common with African countries. Sometimes it makes me sad to know that one day, Africans may completely forget their roots and culture as a result of growing popular cultures. Western Nations, even though they keep spreading popular religions, they seem to always preserve their one time pagan heritage. Why, we name planets after pagan gods, we name scientific and technological wonders and achievements after pagan god, Apollo 11, Venresa 9, why the very word "ocean" comes from "oceanis", BUT IN NIGERIA, I SEE PEOPLE CHANGING THEIR NAMES AND PASTORS ASKING PEOPLE TO CHANGE THEIR NAMES BECAUSE IT DOSE NOT SUIT THE CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE. My cousins name is Aphrodite, she is Greek, a native of Thessaloniki and they are Christians. Aphrodite is the name of the goddess of love. People should leave the Haitians and their Voodoo alone. If it suits them fine and does not affect you then let them be. Earthquakes and natural disasters have nothing to do with religion or spiritualism. They are natural phenomenons that have been taking place on this earth even before the time of man. Look it up. They will remain and will continue to happen even after man is no more. |
@Suprted Thank you my friend. Its just that I makes ask the questions where the heck are we going especially as Christians. We shouldn't be saying such things, we really don't have the right because we don't know. Just like someone rightly put after my post, there is the explanation of Teutonic plates, that completely describes the phenomenon of an Earthquake. I don't understand how being religious or spiritual is an excuse to make (I mean no offense) uneducated, unintellectual and poorly informed statements. What is worse is to see how many people are so blinded by their religious beliefs that they would support anything, as long as it comes out of a man of God. |
What I can't believe is how some people would even agree with Pat Robertson at a time like this. Ask yourselves, if you were Haitain and had lost your family, probably looking at their bodies as bulldozer loaded them into a truck along with hundred others and is dumped them in a large pit, how would you feel right now. Pat Robertson had a right to his opinion no matter how absurd it sounded but was this a good time air an opinion like that. What is even more surprising is comments that go as far as supporting his remark using bible verses as stand points. Natural disasters do not recognize religion or have preference for anyone, the just happen. Sometimes they can be avoided only to a small percentage and most times they occur and kill hundreds of people as the have done on most occasions. I don't see how God is responsible for all these. If this God in heaven is as some of you guys have spoken then he should have destroyed the Greeks and Italians who still keep monuments of pagan worship as Tourist attractions or still name their children after pagan deities. I am surprised how pastors today claim a level of spiritualism that sounds just as fetish as the pagan worship they condemn. "God is punishing Haiti for a pact they had with the devil", like he was there when this so called pact was made or God just decided, "I must tell Pat Robertson what I smashed these heathen Haitians". Some years ago two pastors came on national TV in Nigeria to condemn each other because one of them visited another pastor who was considered to be controversial in his manner of worship. I remember one of these to pastors giving a spiritual explanation of how the other one was not yet a demon but disciple of a demon and sited other pastors who were also demons and whole lot of stuff. At the end of the day I wondered whether he was preaching or giving a lecture on demonology in Nigerian churches. Many years ago these Haitians revolted against their slave masters and fought them off. They were a community of slaves that the best thing they know how to do was to serve a master. Imagine how that kind of community would be, one with no direction, more over how many times since them have they been invaded by a foreign aggressor, which has been a common practice by many western nations. Pat Robertson is not God and cannot tell you what God has in plan for anyone. The Germans took the lives of 6million Jews, I don't see an earthquake or a plague or poverty in Germany today. People should think first before you make comments concerning what God has install for another person. You don't know and you cannot even begin to understand how God works. If you love bible verses them I am sure you find this in the bible, he works in mysterious ways, so how can you claim to know when he is responsible for something. Pat Robertson is alive and healthy today. He should thank God for that, instead of telling people who have lost how God is punishing them. |
oyb:HAHAHAHAHHA. Really laughing my but off. This is really funny stuff. To a large extent, I agree with this letter because Pat has so much detail on the deal between the Haitians and the devil it is absolutely impossible for him not to have been there when it happened. HAHAHAHAHA. Still laughing my but off. |
Abuzola:And you think thats a good reason to be a trouble shooter. If Christians dis stabilize your discussion on Muslim threads then you are no better than those Christians by doing the same thing. Honestly, you are giving Muslims a bad name by these your posts. |
Abuzola:Dude I believe when people ignore your comments for this long, its a polite way of saying "please shut you mouth, this discussion does not concern you and we would rather not have you opinion". "Thank you". You are such a fanatic, (very un-constructive in your fanaticism) cos I have read your other post on other threads. |
Hi friends, just joined the discussion. Although I find the question interesting but, what I find most amazing is how this question turned into a Muslim vs Christan, Koran v Bible argument. The guy asked a question as a point of discussion, how that became, "The Bible is a Corrupt Book" etc, is the part I don't understand ![]() ?Religious tolerance should be practiced more and you should let be all this talk about comparing religious beliefs or history. If you chose to do so, then please I beg you, do it constructively and not in a manner to annoy someone else, (you don't have the right to do that). I say this especially to my Muslim friends because it seems you guys are the ones spear heading this, forgive the word, "Crap". Religious belief are subject to a persons faith which is a personal value meaning it is his right and his opinion and should be respected whether you agree with it or not. I am surprised to see Muslims doing this because I know how you will respond to an attack on your religion. If the bible has a million versions or a hundred million excluded texts, it should be of no concern to you as a Muslim, it is not your faith and you cannot kill him/ her for it. If you don't like his post don't answer it but please don't change the issue to something unwanted and nonconstructive. |
I don't think the Modern World could work solely on Biblical laws or any other religious law alone. Religion has its characteristic to be static as against a very dynamic and ever changing world. |
