Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has vowed to fight corruption like never before if given the chance to preside over Nigeria’s affairs.

Atiku also challenged those he described as his self-righteous political enemies to either prove his alleged corrupt activities or keep quiet.

The APC chieftain said this during a facility tour of the new ultra-modern Yaliam Press Limited in Jabi area of Abuja on Monday.

This was contained in a statement by his Media Office in Abuja.

Atiku was quoted as saying, “he would fight corruption like never before if he is given the opportunity to preside over the affairs of the country.”

The former Vice-President said, “It is sickening to continue to regurgitate allegations of corruption against me by people who have failed to come forward with a single shred of evidence of my misconduct while in office.”

He noted that people who lacked initiative, personal resourcefulness and ideas about wealth creation, “always assume that a man cannot build himself without stealing.”

“People who are bereft of ideas about entrepreneurial spirit always think that everyone else is a thief just like them,” he added.

Atiku said it was morally offensive for people who despise honest labour to become judges in the courts of public opinion.

The Waziri Adamawa explained that though he had not been convicted of corruption by any court in the land or elsewhere, his political enemies had been parading a fake morality to fool gullible Nigerians.

He was equally quoted as saying, “Despite previous desperate efforts to link me with corruption, the William Jefferson trial in the United States ended in 2009 without indicting me or linking me to corrupt activities.”

Atiku recalled that he had pasted a reminder on his bed side during his training as a Customs officer that he would retire from any agency if he had not attained the headship of the place at the age of 40.

He said that he was only able to attain the position of a deputy director before his exit in 1989 to chart a career in business.

Atiku told the management and members of staff of Yaliam Press that he retired from the Nigeria Customs Service with unblemished records.

He challenged anybody who had evidence that he stole a kobo at the Customs or during his tenure as vice-president to confront him with evidence or file a petition against him.

Atiku said he did not become a Vice-President in 1999 as a pauper because he had been a successful investor throughout his retirement life.

He said, “If Atiku is a thief merely because of his resourcefulness and successful investments, my political enemies should tell Nigerians the sources of their own stupendous wealth.”

Atiku charged the management and members of staff of the company to manifest the values of honesty, hard work and diligence. These attributes, he said, stood him in good stead during his years as a public servant and an entrepreneur.

The former Vice-President said he was well equipped to fight corruption because of his vast experiences both in the public and private sectors and his ability to build a team capable of accomplishing the task.

“I will shock everyone because I believe that I will fight corruption like never before.”

At least 14 people, including four children, were burnt to death when a passenger van caught fire after colliding with a truck in Pakistan on Tuesday, the Police said.

Another five people were severely injured in the accident that took place near the capital, Islamabad, said Mahmud Ali Khokhar, spokesperson for the highway police.

He confirmed that four children were among the dead and all the bodies were charred beyond recognition.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.

Khokhar said it appeared that the van driver fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into the truck.

Bad roads, poorly maintained vehicles and a substandard safety regime cause numerous accidents in Pakistan every year, leading to more than 5,000 deaths, according to government statistics.

In June, a fuel tanker overturned in eastern Pakistan and then burst into flames when locals gathered to collect oil, killing about 200 people.

Chairman, National Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, says he has provided N250 million as relief assistance to victims of the devastating flood in Benue State.

Dangote said on Sunday in Lagos that this was in response to the request by the Benue State Government.

He said that the committee had also approved the release of one of its completed IDP Hostels in the state as a temporary shelter for some of the displaced people.

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan had on Oct. 11, 2012, inaugurated the Dangote-led 34-member National Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation.

The committee was charged with raising additional funds to support the government’s efforts to provide adequate relief and post-impact rehabilitation to persons and communities affected by floods in the country.

Dangote said the State Emergency Management Agency had disclosed that more than 110,000 people in 24 communities, including Makurdi, were displaced by the recent flood in Benue.

The committee chairman said that asides the donation to Benue, his committee had also donated N150 million to provide relief assistance to flood victims in Anambra,

Dangote, in a statement by Mr. Sunday Esan of the Corporate Communication Department of Dangote Group, said that the committee had also released N118 million to the National Emergency Management Agency.

He said that this was to augment the N1.6 billion released by the Federal Government for procurement of food and non-food relief materials in aid of flood victims in 16 states.

According to him, the states are Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu, Abuja FCT, Kebbi, Kwara, Lagos, Niger, Ondo, Oyo, Plateau, and Sokoto.

He said that the committee was currently implementing the various projects in the 24 states affected by the 2012 nationwide floods.

Dangote said that the rationale behind the projects was to assist the benefiting states to better handle future emergencies, including flooding.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress administration to fulfil its promise to Nigerians to make them feel safe again.

Atiku, who is also the founder of the American University of Nigeria group of schools in Yola, Adamawa State, faulted an online report on one of the Chibok girls.

Faulting the report, Atiku said, “Not everything is about 2019.”

The former Vice-President said this in a statement signed on his behalf by his Media Adviser, Mazi Paul Ibe, in Abuja, on Sunday.

Atiku was reacting to an online publication suggesting that one of the freed kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls, attempted suicide to protest being compelled to attend one of his schools.

He noted that he was not aware that anyone was being forced to attend one of his schools.

“The Waziri Adamawa prays that those who have suffered so much get all the treatment and support they need, and urgently calls on the Federal Government to honour its promise to make Nigerians feel safe again,” the statement said.

The statement partly read, “His Excellency Atiku Abubakar (Waziri Adamawa), Vice-President of Nigeria, 1999-2007 and founder of the AUN Group of Schools is shocked that some would-be journalists think it is fair game to exploit a young girl’s trauma to score cheap political points.

“Atiku Abubakar is not aware that anyone is forced to attend ABTI schools. The story is contrived hogwash. He urges the media, a critical partner in our march to progress and development, to remember that not everything is about 2019.

“I wish to stress that the intention of the Waziri Adamawa was to give the freed Chibok girls (just like he did to an earlier batch in 2014) the best possible education, and that was why he helped set up the foundation programme to create such an opportunity in a familiar environment.

“Unfortunately, the best intentions can backfire. These girls are still healing, and clearly, the recent deterioration of the security situation in the North-East has opened old wounds.”

Meanwhile, there are indications that the APC National Working Committee members are divided on how to handle statements credited to Atiku and the Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan.

Alhassan, last week said she would support Atiku against Buhari in the 2019 presidential election.

On his part, the former Vice-President lashed out at the Buhari administration, saying he had been sidelined by the government.

He said that although members had not agreed on whether they should be sanctioned, but Atiku risked further isolation from the party and the government.

“What is certain is that the issue will be discussed, but their actions will not attract punishment like suspension. Atiku will be isolated from the party and the government,” the source stated.

Some of the party’s leaders, who spoke on condition of anonymity, in separate interviews in Abuja, on Sunday, expressed mixed feelings about Atiku’s latest outburst.

One of the respondents, a member of the NWC, said the former Vice-President was simply voicing out his frustrations about the shoddy treatment he had been receiving since the APC came to power.

He said, “Aside from not consulting him on a number of issues, his business interests have come under attack by the same government he worked hard to bring to power.

“Some individuals around the President are using Buhari’s name and office to make enemies for him. You and I know that the sudden change of policy with respect to the ports operations which Intels use to handle is not an accident.

“The man is a businessman and politician and like everybody else, he had certain expectations when he joined the party and worked with others to form government.”

The source added, “Atiku ought to have avoided saying what he said to the media because members of the cabal who have always been pushing for his isolation now have further ammunition to fight him.

“I am afraid, he risks further isolation because even those close to him within the party may be compelled to switch camp for political survival.”

Another party leader said those behind the leak of private comments made by Alhassan, were out to pull her down.

As to whether the party would consider punitive measures against the two, the source said, “You don’t punish people for expressing an opinion.”

When contacted, the National Vice-Chairman (North-West), Inuwa Abdulkadir, said, “I discuss issues not personalities.”

His counterpart in the South-South, Hilliard Ita, said he was not in a position to comment on the Atiku matter.

He however said comments attributed to the Minister of Women Affairs were unbecoming of a minister.

Meanwhile, a Second Republic lawmaker Junaid Muhammed, has reacted to a call by Senator Sheu Sani, who on Saturday, urged Buhari to reach out to the APC National leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Muhammed said the President, in his two years in office, had made more enemies than friends, adding that Buhari should reach out and listen to the people.

An 18 passenger Bus full of stolen goats with two people inside had an accident along Oyo to Ogbomoso express way, the accident happened at the early hours of Friday at Odo oba town near Ogbomoso, no lives lost including the goats.
Though the police were unable to arrest the culprits behind this evil deed, it was reported that the thirds ran away as soon as the accident happened leaving no clue of traces behind, the goats were moved to Idi Ogede police station, Odo- oba.
The police in charged urge the people of the community to come to the station in other to claim their goats with concrete evidence, see photos of the accident below:

Just like joke, 2017 jamb commenced, almost all candidates have seen their results, some with higher grades which is 201 to 400, some with average points which is 180 to 200 and some with lower grades which is below 180 lol.
However, 2017 UTME examination was full of fun, controversies, funny but critical conditions, let's review 10 things that happened during 2017 UTME examination

1. Candidates unable to generate pin during registrations, this caused a lot of chaos at some CBT centers which resulted into candidates exchanging dirty words or exchanging blows, in some states candidates beat the hell out of security officers, it's quite funny when seeing photos of Jambites at cbt centers unable to generate pin.

2. Exam slip re-print, though its funny, its still under critical conditions, JAMB had earlier promised candidates that they will receive their examination slip through their email, it failed due to how slow jamb was, candidates started running to cbt centers to re-print their slip, if you are there you will witness so many situations that will make you want to crack your ribs..

3. Jambites who sat for their exam on the first day were unable to check their results till tuesday, some them were already panicking, if you get close to those candidates, you will see how funny they look.

4. Jambites scheduled to sit for their exam at LAUTECH ogbomoso were unable to sit for their exam due to lautech strike, some of them were chased out of the CBT center, their appearance alone will make you laugh out loud, but under such conditions you will pity them..

5. CBT center in lagos shut down systems before the actual ending period of exam, the invigilators at the CBT center told candidates to go home. One of the candidates said she was the last person on roll, she just typed her Registration number when the systems were shut down..

6. Candidate brought gun to the examination venue, this quite funny, is he going for war or for an exam? gun at the examination hall, the candidate just forfeited his right to sit for the exam, too bad..

7. Jamb deduct 100marks from candidates score, if you read the message that was sent from jamb to candidates, it looks like it's fraud because there were too many errors in the text message, though it indicated that jamb was the sender, on seeing this, candidates started panicking, jamb later debunked the rumor..

8. 11 people arrested for trying to hack jamb's portal in order to copy questions, solve it and use the same portal to upload answers through their client's registration number. their clients/candidates on getting to the exam hall, they will type their registration number, the answers will be uploaded already, they will just have to review their work and submit without doing any thing at the center, but the hackers failed, though they were not the only ones doing it.

9. Jamb to add extra 40 marks to candidates scores, candidates that failed 2017 jamb tried to give themselves hope by circulating fake news of extra 40 marks, jamb later debunked the rumor, some of them started crying..

10. Candidates who scored below 180 started hoping for miracles, those candidates were also looking for schools that will accept their score. Imagine, someone who scored 110 in jamb asking which school will accept that kind of result or which course he can study with that score, you can just tell the person to go for SUNDAY SCHOOL and study NATIVE DOCTORS. abi? na only God fit accept us no matter how poor and dumb we are...
