THIS IS A THREAD FOR POETRY, SO,

We have not rode alone, who dwell not just on hope
though yet against rote we sought around ageing wheels
Is it not the same song we once sang that now reveals?
What we are, we are, hanging on a fading rope!

And for each lost word, each vain spat in lure
for our well deserved voice will not again go
unclaimed, unasked for, ignored - that for sure.
We now see clear. And we will never stay low.

No more, no more. Yes, no more.
Give us leaders, but not like we had before.
Poems For Review / Re: Poetry Purblishers by gwatala(m): 4:50pm On Sep 21, 2006
Oh Caleb,

For a published poet, your spellings really suck. This led me to conclude that you are obviously in the wrong place to recruit poets for your director. By the way, directors do not "purblish" poetry, nor do poets seek to become "stars in the society"

Next time, a simple spell-check might do before you click SEND.

Peace

And, by the way, why did you fret
about that image I gave our dame?
Doesn't it often serve to let
people like her think twice about fame?

For Y.

There's more to the singing bird than just a guilded cage.
and odes than ring the night, throaty, as with stifled rage.
My bard calls with flapping wings, squawky as it pecks the mist
of a past less benign - but what exactly have we missed?.

My noise will still frisk the night even when you rest, reclined.
Home will call, with my thoughts for you only the more refined.

The muse, it seems, does not just reside
where its boy goes, nor do words always provide.

Away, away to a place of restlful seas, waters running light.
I alone, grieving the world and swimming in joyful plight.
Run across, not without peace, I'd stare upwards alone
And this past behind, fume, and roll, in love alone, and moan.

Thanks Dolarpo, I'm not worried about the shoddy.
If she would speak sense, she would have done so already.

And let rice starve, what do you care?
She knew what she wanted, she took the dare.
Here's another flying image of her - our traveling meal,
couched as the worlds' strongest female with a zeal.

@Waleralpho

Thanks for this, but look below
There you gave yourself a fatal blow:

waleralpho:

this thread used 2 seem childish
now we try to make it stylish
people voice out n say it's rubbish
undecided, don't mind 'em, they r all IRISH

But you are wrong, you know, the Irish write best.
You said it just for the rhyme, and for that I let it rest.
Go read GB Shaw, S. Beckett, WB Yeats, O Wilde, even J. Joyce
You'll see why the Irish, and not the English, gave literature its voice.

Kai!

ONE MORE VERSE BEFORE I GO

Oh what to give to move the bridge, even Christ spoke alike.
A human bond which though we see we but can't reach beyond.
Once false, once real. It stretches through a burning filial bond,
just like a mile of rage sewn thin astride a path of spikes.

Look deep and you might glimpse what tired eyes have spied
If only you would peep from here you'll see how much I've tried.
It's nothing now like was before though still the sparks remain.
The paths across the hedge of dreams we call our own restrain.

Oh what to give to move the bridge, even Christ spoke alike.
It winds alike on miles of rage astride a path of spikes.

Have you ever experienced the hype that is 'multiple orgasm' (ladies only)?

I wasn't ashamed. I was dying.
I'd seen enough trauma than to take the life just as pure.
I know it then, as I know it now. I'm sure,
There're things we can't change, not even by trying

Na wahala be dis o. Seye, I suggest that you bid for the Nigerian government licence for Independent Power Generation. I'll be there for you, if only you won't hold my hand!

Btw, don't you guys see this as the most hilarious thread ever on Nairaland so far? grin
Forum Games / Re: The Rhyming Game by gwatala(m): 1:25am On Sep 10, 2006
I like this thread so much. It reads like a song.
It must be "fly" to have remained alive this long
So long that I could only read the first page
and hop in here fast, last page, to join on the stage.

But isn't that a problem? So much is lost in between
I'm sure I'm not the only one, do you get what I mean?
I can only imagine, only guess, that much fun is encrypt
hidden somewhere in the pages, within those I've skipped.

But only if you care, I'm not here to rock the boat.
If I speak for you, that's good. Enough of this rote.
Maybe we could make it another thread, another task
Look below and see what one other NaiLander came to ask.

I remember it too, but we did not find it rude,
we just sat and laughed at the sound of a travelling food.
But it was Condoleeza, abi, that American government miss(tress)
going round the world's dailies, dour, like a bad repast. Saltless.

What do you mean Seun, I don't think my eyes make jest.
I posted my lines here yesterday, at the Poser's request
So what happened? Is it a knock on my/our scoff
of the idiotic topic that you would deign to take it off

I still don't think you got a right topic for this project
Maybe if you suggest another, we can see better prospect.
Don't just take off all you do not like, talk's free, no?
The fun is really in the talking, not just blind follow follow.

Let's rhyme. Let's put our words to use. Let's flow
But don't let's begin with topics that're way too s/low.
"The leaders we deserve", was that what he said we'd send?
Ptuah. We'll never get them anyway so why pretend.

Abeg talk something better o jare, well I won't suggest.
It's yours to do, we'll just write, or we'll just protest.

VALENTINE FANTASY

This day reminds of memories of old,
Of words and thoughts and works and tugs of war
It brings back sighs of days of heat and cold
And days we stared and wondered what was more.
The pristine wind brings back your specless face
Adorned in hues and shades of innocence
With thunderclap I see that smile of grace
That went with us under the public lens.
But then I stop to look behind and forth
Since now alone we know, and thus obey.
This transient game will one day gain its worth
When he or she steps in and we nod, “yea”
So till time grimly comes to draw the line,
Let me pretend to dream, and think you mine.

Hush now little baby don't you cry
Everything's gonna be alright
Stiffen that upper lip up little lady, I told ya
Daddy's gonna hold ya
through the night

Eminem (Mockingbird)

My tea's gone cold I'm wondering why
i got out of bed at all
Morning rain clouds up my window
and I can't see at all
Even if I do it would all be grey
but your picture on my wall
It reminds me that it's not so bad, not so bad.
