Singer, Yemi Alade, in a new interview with the Sun Newspaper has revealed what her staying power in the music industry is.

The ‘Nakupenda’ crooner, who recently sat down for an interview The Sun newspaper, also talked about her album, and a few other issues.

Read excerpts:

Last year was a fulfilling one for you as you got endorsed by many brands. Is the pressure getting to you?

No it isn’t. It is better to have so much to do than to be idle. And you know, one can’t get endorsed by similar brands at the same time. If after one or two years your contract expires, then, perhaps, a much more competitive brand would want to take over.

What project are you doing at the moment?

Well, I am still pushing my last album, Mama Africa. And I have dropped like four videos off the album. They include Mama Africa, Koffi, Nagode and Ferrari. And besides, I am working on more videos which would be released very soon.




Your last album was quite Afro-centric, what prompted that decision?




That was the focus. After all, the title is Mama Africa; it definitely had to be Afro-centric.

The music industry is dominated by male artistes, does that put pressure on you?

The pressure is there because I have to keep up with what my male counterparts are doing. It is also tough and challenging because in Africa, women are always looked down upon so there are a lot of physical and psychological issues that we tackle as African female artistes whether you are A-List or Z-list. Well, I have chosen to be on God’s list.

What is Yemi Alade’s staying power?

It is definitely God all the way day in day out. And also the team that doesn’t sleep. Shout out to Effizzy Music Group and of course, there is the passion because money can’t buy passion.

Benue Association of Movie Producers (AMP) and Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) have disassociated themselves from two pornographic movies recently shot in Makurdi.



The two movie productions; the “IPhone 7 Babes and Feast of Death”, were shot in locations within Makurdi in December 2016 by film producer, Derrick Walter of Nollyniz Gate Productions.

The associations on Saturday in Makurdi, condemned the content of the movie productions and said the actors that featured in them were not their members.

A joint statement by the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the AMP and AGN, Rose Okwoli and Benjamin Ukwueze, respectively, described the productions as “archaic, barbaric, uncivilized , illegal
and against acceptable moral and cultural norms which they are out to project”.

They also distanced themselves from the conduct and character of the artists shown in the obscene movies.

“They are not registered members of the bodies and the producer did not seek approval from AMP/AGN as is the usual practice for the production of the movies under reference.

The associations strongly condemn the entire project; the abuse of professionalism exhibited by the producer, Mr Derrick Walter, owner of Nollyniz Gate Productions.

We also condemn the desperation and profanity showcased by the so called artists in a bid to gain fame and popularity in the movie industry and the abuse of dignity and decency.

The artists involved are not our registered members; the said producer did not seek the approval of AMP/AGN, none of the bodies gave approval for the production of such movies.”

NAN reports they claimed to have been aware of the movies through various platforms on the social media and Internet. The associations, however, assured that efforts were underway to correct the negative impact created by the movies in the state, adding that several vetting agencies were already contacted.

“We have already contacted the National Film and Video Censors Board, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Copyright Commission for necessary actions.”

They pledged to ensure the integrity and professionalism of all movies and actors involved in film production in the state, and urged all stakeholders to assist the Benue movie industry meet its set goals.

Legendary highlife musician, Dr. Victor Abimbola Olaiya, 86, has retired from active performance due to his failing health and doctors's standing instruction to desist from performance henceforth.

This was made public last weekend when the legend apparently missed from the usual ‘nightlife faithful gathering’ held every Saturday at the Stadium Hotel, Iyun Street, Surulere Lagos.
According to reports, the celebrated trumpeter actually stopped attending his regular weekly shows and occasional performance for over one year when it became obvious that his health is failing steadily. Based on this, his doctor advised him strongly to cease immediately from performing.

“Aside from attending his gigs, he no longer comes to work regularly as a result of age-related health issues, his manager, Gbenga Adewusi said.

Seun Egbegbe has been slammed with 36 counts of Advance Fee Fraud in Lagos.


Egbegbe alongside his accomplice, Ayo Oyekan disguised themselves as directors of Gbagada general hospital and tried to swindle two bureau de change operators, one Alhaji Isa Adamu and Abdullahi Haruna of 9000 dollars and 3000 pounds respectively.
They were arrested after the bureau de change operators raised alarm.

Seun's iPhone theft case has been adjourned to April.
