Veteran Nollywood actress, Bimbo Akintola during an exclusive interview with Pulse TV On June 10, 2016, revealed how fellow actresss Joke Silva has influenced her acting career. According to her, Silva changed her father's impression of actors, after he watched her perform on stage. Read excerpts from the interview below;


"Joke SIlva. She has done a lot, but it's not even about the things that she did, it's about the things she didn't realize that she did.

My father thought actors were ne'er–do–well, you know how it is. Because at that time, most of the actors we had were so passionate about the art that even though they weren't making money, they were happy to be in the arts.

They were poor people, and what my father saw was me choosing a life of poverty, and he couldn't understand it. "Okay if you don't want to do anything else, go study English and become a teacher,' he said. He wanted me to do so many other things.

We argued about if for a while, and I won because I knew I wouldn't be happy doing any other thing. But he still wasn't happy about it. And then I got to do this job with Aunty Joke, and I told her about my struggle with my dad. She said 'Oh, bring him to the performance,' and I did.

My father met her and he was so impressed by Aunty Joke that he didn't care. He was just thinking 'if this is the sort of person that is an actor, then my daughter should be an actor.' From then it was okay. It wasn't the awards, it was just meeting Aunty Joke.

Britains today have shocked the world with their vote in favour of #Brexit. As the reality of the new phase for Britain sets in, I know a lot of people will be wondering what the whole thing means or entails, So, here is a little insight to what actually happened and how it is going to affect or no affect people.



What Actually happened?
A referendum, its a system of voting in which everyone (or nearly everyone) of voting age can take part and it was on Thursday 23 June, to decide whether Britain should leave or remain in the European Union or Leave.
Leave won by 52% to 48% and the referendum turnout was 71.8%, with more than 30 million people voting. It was the highest turnout at a UK election since 1992.

What is the European Union?
The European Union referred to as the EU, is an economic and political partnership involving 28 European countries (See Full List of Countries In It HERE). This Union of countries began after the World War Two to foster economic co-operation, with the idea that countries which trade together are more likely to avoid going to war with each other and it worked as it has since grown to become a “single market” allowing goods and people to move around, basically as if the member states were one country. It has its own currency, the euro, which is used by 19 of the member countries, its own parliament and it now sets rules in a wide range of areas – including on the environment, transport, consumer rights and even things like mobile phone charges.

What happens to UK citizens working in the EU?
Now this depends on the kind of deal that UK and EU will reach, If it remains within the single market, it would almost certainly retain free movement rights, allowing UK citizens to work in the EU and vice versa. If the government opted to impose work permit restrictions, as UKIP wants, then other countries could reciprocate, meaning Britons would have to apply for visas to work.

How does it affect Non-British Nigerians?

1. Well, this kind of a good news to all those seeking to buy cheap pounds and the Pounds will and has crashed albeit temporarily. I would advise you to take the opportunity and go stock up on your pounds as they are now very cheap.

The same Visa and immigration process despite the Brexit will still remain the same. So, do not hurry to go and begin that UK visa process yet.

Well, for Football lovers, Champions League especially, there is no change. Everything will still be intact no need to worry about football nights at all.

How does it affect British Nigerians?
Now, here is the bad aspect of it to Nigerians that have the British citizenship. No more strolling from one European country to the other, Awwww, Now I feel sad for a friend in Austria, No more moving from Vienna to Paris, to Greece and the rest, Well, there is hope though, because like I stated up there, this depends now on the kind of deal UK will cut with EU.

Britain can now be able to exercise and flex their the tension and embargo on immigration especially for the Muslims.

Has any other member state ever left the EU?
No nation state has ever left the EU, and that’s why its a shock to the rest of the world. But Greenland, one of Denmark’s overseas territories, held a referendum in 1982, after gaining a greater degree of self government, and voted by 52% to 48% to leave, which it duly did after a period of negotiation. The BBC’s Carolyn Quinn visited Greenland at the end of last year to find out how they did it.



But then, not withstanding the fear-mongering tactics deployed by the #Remain and #Leave constituencies, not much will change. Britain’s economic interests actually supersede all political considerations. Britain joined the EU because of its economic benefits, so, I think they would not want to lose that but would rather play smart by agreeing to a kind of deal with EU that would favour their economic interest. European countries are their primary trading partners, and I do not anticipate that there will be a catastrophic change in the free movement of goods and services between the UK and the EU. So, am certain that goods will still be allowed to move freely from one country to the other, but that’s on goods and services alone, because I can’t say for sure on persons now because that will be a total different ball game, and that’s all thanks to the current terrorism tension in some of the European countries due to the free flow of immigrants.

Well, I will say that this should in a way serve as a learning points for Nigerians on how to conduct state issues. This decision was amicably taken with not even a drop of blood spilling, any group that wants to leave Nigeria should approach the issue the right way and am sure they will be no need for violence or killings that we see everyday. David Cameron resigned without even being pushed or told. Can that happen in this part of our world? Nigerians lets learn to follow the right channels in making our stand and opinions known and there will be peace and joy.

So, yesterday after OAP Freeze shared his father's photo to wish him a Happy Father's Day, he came under heavy attack from different people who made so many outrageous claims to his paternity all due to the very vast difference in his skin color and that of his father. So because of that and also to set the record straight, he shared a photo with his mother who is a white woman and had some choice words for the people that called him all sorts of names yesterday. The response I got from my Father's Day post was overwhelming and absolutely hilarious. Some said because my dad is really dark and I am fair I must have been adopted, others claimed I was bleaching while some even went ahead to advice my dad to do a DNA test to make sure I was really his son. Ok guys, just incase speculation were to evolve into fact, let me set the record straight! I was not adopted o! Neither am I bleaching! Here is a pic of my mum and she is white as in oyinbo pepe all the way from a small Eastern European country called Romania. I am from Transylvania, the birth place of the famous 'Dracula', who by the was was a distant relative.. Anyway, here is a little family history. My dad was an academic genius who saw himself through school jumping from one scholarship to the other. He went to secondary school in Tema, Ghana and came back to Nigeria in the early 70s. According to the legend, a friend informed him that the Hungarian embassy was giving scholarships to gifted students. My dad told me that he was so broke, he had to walk all the way to the embassy and upon getting there he discovered that the last form was picked up a few minutes before he got to the embassy. My poor dad was devastated and downcast. One of the guards at the embassy now asked him to check the Romanian embassy. My dad went there, got the form, passed the exam in flying colors and got a scholarship to study Medicine in Romania. He met my mum who by 22, had already completed her masters. Fast forward to 2016, my dad runs a private practice in Ibadan while my mum is a deputy vice chancellor in a private university. I hope I answered all your questions.... Lol

Few months after a secret employment exercise by the Central Bank of Nigeria was unearthed by SaharaReporters, another government agency has been hit by a similar scandal. This time the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), headed by Mr. Babatunde Fowler, a protege of Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC) has been found to have overseen recruitment excercises in violation of Nigeria's rules of public advertisement.

FIRS, under Fowler, recently employed 3489 new staff. The recruitment exercise, SaharaReporters authoritatively gathered, was not preceded by a public advertisement of vacancies to be filled and approval by the Federal Character Commission as the service rules stipulate. The newly employed persons were inducted in Abuja last Wednesday. Fowler, who was appointed last August by President Muhammadu Buhari, had previously been accused of indifference to service rules on employment by secretly hiring 250 new staff. However, his accusers, could not make the charge stick, as he claimed those hired are not full-time employees but consultants.

The latest findings, however, are accompanied by substantial evidence including the list of new recruits, complete with their states of origin, dates of birth, phone numbers, email addresses, academic qualifications, recommended ranks and proposed duty stations.

The list, exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters, showed that six of the new recruits are of the position of deputy director, while 10 are assistant directors. Thirty-four others are of the rank of deputy manager, while the rest are made up of senior managers, managers, assistant managers and officers. All the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are represented on the list. Akwa Ibom State, for example, got six slots, while Gombe has 13. Ondo State is a beneficiary of 13 slots. Lagos State, where Fowler hails from, was awarded 14 slots.

Katsina got 18, Kano 15 and Borno 23. Rivers State was given 14 slots. But in certain cases, the list does not show the states of origin and education qualifications of some of the new staff, making it difficult to know they states of origin and qualifications.

Wahab Gbadamosi, FIRS acting Director of Information, told a news website last week that relevant agencies of government approved the recruitment.

"Your enquiry on the targeted recruitment at the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS refers. We wish to respond as follows: Please note that requisite agencies of government approved the targeted recruitment by the FIRS. Due Process -in recruiting into a Federal Government agency- was followed; The FIRS is a conscientious, law-abiding institution which adheres to statutory rules and procedures; The FIRS is focused on its duty to collect revenue to fund the national budget and pleads that it should be allowed to concentrate on its 2016 target of N4. 9 trillion,” he was quoted to have responded via email.

Noticeably absent from the mail, however, are whether the vacancies were advertised or not and the names of the relevant agencies that green-lighted the recruitment.

As with the CBN recruitment scandal, the list of employed persons reeks of nepotism.
