Reports from Cameroon say, that the the former boss of the nation's airline Yves Michel Fotso have been sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of embezzling $56 million from the airline when he was the chief executive from 2000 to 2003. He is already serving a 25-year jail term in a separate case after being sentenced in September 2012, for embezzling $29m that Cameroon paid in 2001 for a presidential plane.

I wonder when we in Nigeria will start seeing such headlines.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday disclosed that it has recovered a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) equipment valued at N2.6billion from a Lagos hospital owned by former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu. The agency also blocked an account operated by a “highly placed individual” who was trying to wire $500 million outside the country.

A senior official who spoke on anonymity told Daily Trust that contrary to reports, the arms deal scandal is $15 billion not $2.1billion.

“The actual amount involved in the arms deal is $15 billion. The $2.1 billion was just one transaction out of it.”

The EFCC official confirmed the arrest of the former Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Rivers State, Mrs Gesila Khan, in connection with the N681million she allegedly received to rig the 2015 elections.

Speaking on companies involved in the arms deal, the official said the promoters of those firms would be prosecuted even as billions of naira had already been recovered from them.

“Majority of the companies involved in the arms deal are owned by serving military officers. They registered these companies using the names of their cronies.

“Despite the fact that they returned some money, we are still going to prosecute them,” he said.

Commenting the Panama Papers that exposed some public officials’ offshore holdings, the official said EFCC was analyzing the evidence, would soon act on them.

On the EFCC’s reported clearance of the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danladi Umar, the top staff stated: “The EFCC didn’t exonerate the CCT judge. What the letter said was that there was no sufficient evidence to prosecute him at that time.”

Heavily armed men ambushed and killed a Burundi general, General Athanase Kararuza while he was dropping his daughter at school in Bujumbara. Kararuza was also a security advisor to Burundi's vice-president. The Gunmen who were said to have come solely for the general opened fire on General Athanase Kararuza’s car, killing him and his wife instantly. Their daughter survived the ambush but was injured and rushed to the hospital.

More than 400 people have been killed in unrest since President Pierre Nkurunziza said he would run for a third term last April and a string of high-ranking army officials have been targeted during the conflict. Security forces have also been accused by Amnesty Officials of killing opponents and dumping them in mass graves.



Shortly after the attack, the International Criminal court announced that it was starting a preliminary investigation into the violence in Burundi. This will decide whether a full-blown investigation will take place, which could result in charges against those accused of being behind the violence.

It been reported that one of the products holding facility in the South West, Satelite Deport has been forced to shut down over a technical issue, during the weekend.

According to Mr Alamu AYO - Chairman Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) Satelite Depot, the depot is not functional. It broke down a few days ago worsening distribution efforts of marketers.

To make matters worse, another major petroleum depot in the state, Apapa Depot has no single product. The combined capacity of the two depots were currently in no way able to serve Lagos as Marketers who used to be given 102-105 trucks in the past are now receiving 6-8 trucks daily.

He however stated that the government entered into an Memorandum of Understanding with the marketers in which Marketers were assured of product availability by first week in May.

For someone who was born without a womb, cervix and upper vagina, one can only imagine how life would be for the person. 27 year old Joanna Giannouli, says she has rare condition that affects around one in 5,000 women. She says she has no womb, cervix and upper vagina. Speaking to Harry Low of BBC, Joanna said;

When we first saw the doctor, my father put on a brave face. My mother, on the other hand, didn't take it so well. She blamed herself for the past 10 years. It was really heartbreaking to see her like that. We didn't talk about it much for the first five years. I wasn't able to talk about it. I felt destroyed and incredibly weak.
My mother believes she may have done something wrong in her pregnancy. I've explained to her that she didn't do anything wrong, it was just genes. It's a condition that is stigmatised. The most hurtful thing was when I was abandoned after my former partner found out. I was engaged when I was 21, living in Athens. When I told my fiance about the condition, he broke off the engagement.

That all belongs in the past and I am OK now. For the past five years, fortunately, I have had a stable and loving relationship. He knew from the beginning that I have this condition and he chose to stay with me. He knows that maybe the future will be without children. He's OK with it. I'm also OK with that. I am one of the luckiest.

My mother took me to our family doctor when I was 14 because I still wasn't menstruating. He didn't examine me because he wouldn't touch my private parts and when I became 16 he sent me to a hospital to be checked out. They realised that I didn't have a vaginal tunnel and I had Rokitansky syndrome. Because I was born without a functional vagina, the doctors had to make one in order for me to have sex.

It went well, really well. I stayed in a hospital for about two weeks, in order to recover. Then I had to be about three months laying on a bed - I couldn't get up. I did vaginal exercises in order to expand my new vaginal tunnel. The first sign of it is you have primal amenorrhea - you don't have any menstruation at all. Apart from that, you cannot have sexual intercourse. That's why I had major surgery aged 17. The doctors made me a new one. It was a revolutionary procedure in Athens.

The new vagina the doctors made was narrow and small, and it caused me a lot of pain while having sex, and I had to expand the perineum by doing vaginal exercises. It's a small area underneath the vagina. It's skin, it's tissue, and they had to cut it more in order to expand the entrance, as I call it.
After that I was OK physically, but I was not OK emotionally. It's a burden, like something that you cannot get rid of it. I had partners who emotionally abused me about this condition.
