femarse: I know it takes a brainless person to be an APC member ....so continue ...you can open a dollar account in the UK as per you are the UK prime minister For him to even compare naija with UK and US is abysmally wrong. Naija? We hype this country too much within. 😂 |
Politics › Re: FOREX: FG Gives 9 Month Grace To Those Keeping Dollars Outside Banking System by halmat(m): 8:02am On Nov 01, 2024 |
DeLaRue: No, he is not.
Trying to find a solution to a self-inflicted problem that has existed for several decades is not madness.
You can't open a dollar account at any bank branch in the UK, nor can you open a Pounds account at a bank in the US.
Why should individuals be allowed to operate dollar accounts in Nigeria. Is it our legal tender
This is one of the factors fueling the current misalignment of the naira.
The government needs to phase out dollar accounts. It should not be possible for any individual to open or operate a dollar account. Naija is not UK. Naija exports is insignificant to these country’s export. Also, the world holds its Reserves in USD why would America need another currency? You think USD account was meant for 1k, 2k deposits. Not until you start seeing businesses needing to store their FX. Abi if I wan go China go buy clothes and toys, I should go with naira? Or coming back I should convert my money to naira knowing well I still need it when I’m going again? Stop comparing Naija to even Kuwait, India, UAE. Naijas problems are unique to it. We are 220m people and import most of our foods. China with billion people imports, but to ensure it exports enough too. Tell me one thing that Nigeria is the major exporter of. Just one, cocoa? Palm oil? Crude? So it is an injustice to compare naija with US of over 300m people. A world power, major exporter of arms(pun intended), technology. And whose currency everyone trades with. There’s no country in the world you can compare naija to. By economic standards Naija is unique. Location, naija is unique. Governance, naija is unique. So thinking what works for A will work for Naija, I think that’s what has brought us here. Solve problems in Nigeria for Nigerians, please. |
Politics › Re: FOREX: FG Gives 9 Month Grace To Those Keeping Dollars Outside Banking System by halmat(m): 7:37am On Nov 01, 2024 |
DeLaRue: Nigeria can run itself the way it chooses. We are not China.
After the expiration of the 9 months grace period, cash deposits at bank branches should be limited to a maximum of $100 per person per week. Anything more than that can only be deposited at a single CBN - designated bank in each State.
Dollar cash withdrawal should also be limitedl to $100 per week per person. Since dollar is not our legal tender, it is even questionable whether anybody should be allowed to withdraw dollars in cash. To do what? Buy tomatoes?
Those who need to make foreign payments should obtain dollar Atm card with a maximum spending limit of $1000 per month.
Possession of more than $1000 cash should result in automatic forfeiture to the government and prosecution for money laundering.
The government should then set out a 2 year plan for phasing out individual dollar accounts. After the 2 years, all existing individual dollar accounts will close and banks will not be able to open new ones.
Only companies involved in import and export should be able to open and operate dollar accounts. So, if I don’t have direct business in Nigeria, but I live in Nigeria. I first need to put my money in a dorm account when returning to Naija, or transfer from my foreign account to my dorm account then in Naija Start looking for who to buy from me by transfer from my dorm. How about if my business proceeds is in USD, and I source local materials for export. All my vendors must have USD bank account or I have to sell to CBN get naira then pay my vendors, don’t think of people holding 2k usd here. Think of 100s of thousands USD? How about me as a traveler, visiting Naija for the first time all I have is USD, you mean I can’t give aboki or BDC my 2k USD. And get naira cash? Because BDC will have to think how he would deposit that to the banking system? Aside from hoarding, we could understand Crypto Ban. But this, right here, is like another Naira Cash Scarcity in the future. But in the USD space. You can’t stop people from doing business, can’t stop people from moving around, can’t stop people from having their money how they want it. Most of these cripple businesses and economy in retrospect. Dollar would be more scarce. Exchange rate would grow exponentially. Cash remains the king. And for an import dependent economy like Nigeria, FX is the emperor, forget the USD is not our legal tender bullshit. Naija, Africa even, spends and breathes USD our politicians made us realize that. This ban, is a disaster. Just like the ban on the card transactions. People now cut corners to do the same thing. This means more money for some small set of people. Imagine how much passes through Grey.co for things like YouTube Subscriptions, Apple ICloud, Google Drive and YouTube premium. People still do these things, ordinary Amazon shopping, pay for hotel in other countries using our own flutterwave. You can’t ban people from sending money to a bank account can you? So grey commits no crime. Also, think of what people do with Transferwise, lemonade I can send money to people anywhere, I don’t need to have your USD or go through your bank. People will find means. Now think of travelers, they should send their money to Naija via what? Transferwise, grey, WesternUnion etc? Or just come with cash? Want to ban people from depositing, fine. You sha can not ban people from holding the Cash, it’s not Cocaine. People would trade it outside the banking system and find means. Instead of this, they should promote their cNGN stable coin and be creative with it, they should provide means to easily move USD in and out of the country. See naija needs to accept the fact that it is a USD based economy miraging as NGN, same as other African countries too. Everyday as a Nigerian you live in fear anticipating what used to work will stop working. I wonder how many Nigerians are suffering from one disorder or another due to this frequent disorientation. |

Rich4god: Even as a family, there is every tendency that you won't finish 40gb data in a month on streaming. And to get 40gb, ot cost averagely 10k. How often do you use your TV? What resolution do you stream at? Cable is waaaaaay cheaper. 15k for something I only have to worry about connecting my cable to my decoder? Problems that come with streaming, you need high speed internet, you need data subscription, you would hope that your streaming platform doesn’t buffer. You would hope your streaming platform supports high resolution. For every cheaper alternative, there are hidden costs. Pay 15k and only worry about when rain is falling. Gaskiya. |
Business › Re: Banks Dollar Sale Falls As Naira Weakens To 1,479/Dollar by halmat(m): 11:27am On Feb 09, 2024 |
drlateef: Your argument is illogical. When people don’t receive dollars in Nigeria, they cannot go to Aboki to get naira at black market rate. Aboki would have no dollars to sell and it will improve the value of naira. The banks will then officially declare the dollars obtained from IMTO to CBN. In that way, the over $20 billion diaspora remittance will be going to CBN, not BDC. And the corruption begins, again: Importers go to CBN with their weird proposals. CBN issues the USD for import purpose. Importers go to BDC for exchange, convert USD to naira At black market rate. BDC sells to highest bidder. Importers go to CBN, with NGN CBN issues USD for import. importers go to BDC to exchange at black market rate. BDC sells to highest bidder Also, importers would likely buy directly from Diasporans, let Diasporans make the transaction on their behalf, then credit Diasporans with equivalent NGN. This policy, like every other one: Take away the benefits that they are receiving from the government. So, for an average Nigerian to own FX he has to travel out, make FX and return back to Nigeria or will they say FX is contraband too? Or He goes to BDC. An example is, many of FX transactions require relevant currency. How should average Nigerian provide that? Or the Nigerian government would accept NGN use the IMTO FX to change NGN to FX and fulfill the transaction? This is a messy situation, and as an adult, we should always understand that what ever solution we are trying to provide depends on WHAT angle of the problem we are tackling. I don’t think these guys are ready to tackle the problem from the people’s PoV. This would drive the price higher in a very short period of time. Reducing raw FX available, but there are FX transactions to be made. How do you make the transaction? Survival of the fittest: Know someone in the government, know a diasporan that needs NGN, have enough for BDC rate. |

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to programming trying to build some skills around Java. I encountered an exercise in Dietel's Java how to program book. It's requesting to make an invoice program for a hardware store with constructors, get and set methods, and also calculate the total of the purchase on the invoice with quantity * price. I tried my way around it and come up with these two classes. I'm now stock at an error saying partQuantity: an instance of type int cannot be returned by a method 'Java.lang.String' Please help me out with this, I really don't know what next to do. Here are the two classes for the program. public class NewInvoicevoice { private String partName; private String partDescription; private int partQuantity; private int partPrice; public NewInvoice ( String name, String itemDescription, int itemQuantity, int itemPrice ) // ENDS CONSTRUCTOR ARGUMENTS { partName = name; partDescription = itemDescription; partQuantity = itemQuantity; partPrice = itemPrice; } public void setName( String name ) { partName = name; } public void setDescription( String itemDescription ) { partDescription = itemDescription; } public void setQuantity(int itemQuantity) { partQuantity = itemQuantity; } public void setPrice( int itemPrice ) { partPrice = itemPrice; } public String getName() { System.out.println ("ENTER THE NAME OF THE COMPONENT: " ); return partName; } public String getDescription() { System.out.println ("ENTER THE DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPONENT: " ); return partDescription; } public String getQuantity() { System.out.println ("ENTER THE QUANTITY ORDERED: " ); return partQuantity; } public int getPrice() { System.out.println ("ENTER THE PRICE OF THE COMPONENT: " ); return partPrice; } public void displayMessage( String nameOfStore) { System.out.printf ( "Welcome to %s HRDWARE STORE.", nameOfStore); System.out.println ( "\n" ) ; } public void displayTotal( int itemTotal ) { System.out.printf ( "THE TOTAL COST OF ALL YOUR PURCHASE(S) IS: ", + itemTotal + "\n" ); }
} And here is its Test classimport java.util.Scanner;
public class NewInvoiceTest {
public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner invoiceNm = new Scanner( System.in ); Scanner invoiceDsct = new Scanner( System.in ); Scanner invoiceQtty = new Scanner( System.in ); Scanner invoicePrc = new Scanner( System.in ); Scanner storeNm = new Scanner( System.in );
String invoiceName = invoiceNm.nextLine(); String invoiceDescription = invoiceDsct.nextLine(); int invoiceQuantity = invoiceQtty.nextInt(); int invoicePrice = invoicePrc.nextInt(); String storeNme = storeNm .nextLine();
String storeName = "DengrDEV"; int totalPurchase = invoicePrice * invoiceQuantity;
NewInvoice newInvoicea = new NewInvoice(invoiceName, invoiceDescription, invoiceQuantity, invoicePrice);
newInvoicea.displayMessage ( storeNme ); System.out.println ("" + newInvoicea.getName() + "\n" + newInvoicea.getDescription() + "\n" + newInvoicea.getQuantity() + "\n" + newInvoicea.getPrice() + "\n" + "" ); newInvoicea.displayTotal ( totalPurchase );
}
} Thanks in anticipation. |
