nellydlaw:Mr English Master. Did u forget to score d poor boy? At least he was able to pass a message. The point is the kind of discrimination faced by HND holders is just too much. Mind you, No bank is strong without customers. and by the way , who told you that UBA is the largest bank in Africa. UBA aims to be Africa's sixth largest bank in Africa in 2010 According to the group MD and CEO of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, Tony Elumelu, the Nigerian bank's ambition is to become the 6th largest bank in Africa by 2010, with long term plans to mature as the leading African bank. Addressing the press on the bank's outstanding performance for financial year 2007, Elumelu stated that the impressive performance in the financial year is indicative of the bank's readiness to sustain its leadership of the Nigerian banking industry and successfully challenge for continental leadership in terms of scale and profitability. The UBA group MD, who lamented the dearth of generational businesses among Africans, said UBA is ready to show that as well as being successful athletes, Africans can run successful global businesses as well. He said the bank's record growth since the 2005 merger, attributing it to its hardworking employees. He explained further that the bank's balance sheet has had a cumulative average growth rate (CAGR) of 89% between 2005 and 2007, rising from N333bn in 2005 to N1.64bn in 2007. Deposit base, he explained has had a cumulative average growth rate of 86%, leaping from N205bn in 2005 to N872bn in 2007 while profit before tax was also on the high by 86% from N6.5bn in post merger to N29.5bn in 2007. Responding to questions on how UBA's profitability could enliven the real sector of the economy, Elumelu said, “The challenges facing the real sector in Nigeria go beyond the narrow perspective of just providing capital. Capital is necessary but not the only ingredient for real sector growth. Infrastructure is key and that is why UBA's partnership with the China Development Bank will provide a veritable platform for infrastructure development, not just in Nigeria, but also in the rest of Africa.” According to the UBA MD, the bank, in collaboration with the China Development Bank will identify and fund projects in key areas of the Nigerian economy such as energy, road and railways, oil & gas, among others. To be frank, i am not an HND holder but the kind of treatment metted on polytechnic graduates in the banking industry most especially your darling UBA (with one of the worst remuneration in the industry)is saddening. My friend no dey jump jump!! |
@jayon One difference btw reasonable individuals and nitwits is that reasonable people think about consequences and implications of actions before doing anything.I wonder wat u stand to gain from the book you advertised 'the fall of islam'? I believe this forum unifies many individuals, mostly the knowledgeable ones but its so unfortunate that while some people contribute meaningfully some contribute negatively. i dont know how pius or educated u really are but i guess u certainly do not know the value of any -if u have at all. if u die today are u sure of making heaven? what good impact have u had on the lives of people? Preach more of your religion and win more souls rather than enjoying unreasonable slander. I read thru your profile and saw how passioinate you are to your faith. i am not a fanatic. i am a muslim with 70% christian friends. My closest friends are christians. I was sent to a missionary school in the early parts of my education. I enjoy none of anything that has to do with blasphemy. |

Sweet T:when sending posts please try to be factual.you are a bit far from the truth. the present problem has more to do with some members of the bank's managment approving fraudulent internal loans for themselves. as for the health of the bank; information from relevant sources reveals that the bank is doing well and very healthy. i see no reason why you have to demarket WEMA without having genuine information. WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR INFORMATION FROM? |
![]() HI , FRIENDS, A COUPLE OF WEEKS BACK I HAD A POST RELATING TO HOW FRIENDLY THE MANAGEMENT OF MY DEAR PURPLE COLOUR BANK IS TOWARDA ITS STAFF.I MADE REFERENCE TO THE MANNER OF DIFFICULTIES ECOUNTERED BY STAFF INTRESTED IN PROGRESSIVE LOANS LIKE CAR LOANS. ITS SURPRISING THAT IN THE SAME BANK WHERE STAFF ARE FACING SUCH DIFFICULTIES, JUST AN INDIVIDUAL HAS A WHOOPING SUM OF 450 MILLION NAIRA 'HOUSING LOAN' ALL TO HIMSELF. THE Managing Director of Wema Bank Plc., Mr. Adebisi Omoyeni, was sent on compulsory leave by the regulatory authorities in the banking sector. Meanwhile, the board of directors of Wema Bank has decided to petition President Umaru Yar’Adua over the crisis in the bank. The board is accusing a top official of CBN of orchestrating the crisis in the bank.http://www.tribune.com.ng/23012008/news/news3.html |
i am a banker. but i had an argument a couple of months back with some colleagues which generated into hot debate and ended with neither real nor convincing answers. Could you guys pls shed more light on this topic.: ' Is banking a profession?' I know of the likes of engineering and law as professions, but banking, am not sure |
to me:I think you are not 100% right. A bank like UBA with one of the biggest balance sheets has one of the worst packages and remuneration for its staff.Despite the recent salary increment in UBA its staff are still one of the least paid in the industry. |
