Please does anyone know what is next after POP ceiling, Plastering, window art work, sliding window, and external door has been completed.

What should be next in the building phase to do?

My engineer suggest tiling should start, but want to check if anyone has any further ideas?


Also, a second question - I am looking to run inverter to give me opportunity to be offgrid if i choose to, will the wiring be different from the main house wiring or the electrician can leverage the same? any advice will be appreciated. Thank you.

Have you done doors? Do you intend to screed?
If you intend to screed please screed first before Tiling.

Please I got the quotation list to screed a 1 bedroom apartment. I need experienced input.

4 drums of paint
5kg of topbond
3 bags of cement.

I initially thought it's 5kg topbond per drum of paint and the cement he recommended is the normal building cement, what is the advantage of this over the typical POP/White cement?

Pop cement Screeding has a finer & smoother finish than normal black cement! Black cement has a tendency of crack if not properly mixed & applied! If he wants to use Black cement ask him to add water proof cement (dr fix - water proof) with enough adhesive.

Please guys, what is the best sequence, tiling and wall screeding? My engineer is saying that wall screeding should be done before tiles. I was of the opinion that tiles should be done so that the base won't require screeding after tiling but he made mention of sandpaper and painting. Is this correct?

The best is to Screed before Tiling & Yes your engineer is right, Screeding also requires Sandpaper for better smoothing ✓

In my opinion, it is better. Most of materials used for PoP are either fake or substandard. Many installers too cut corners and they don’t know what they are doing.
PoP in my house came down completely one day before I got home that year in 2014.

They are not properly hanged, even if they are nailed to a concrete ceiling. They will still come down, with time.

I am 100% certain that gypsum board can outlive PoP.

I am not out to spoil market for any PoP installer here or elsewhere o. I am stating known facts. They are heavier than boards and that’s why it is not safe to be underneath them and feel relaxed. They are like timed-bomb.

Another way to reduce their risk of falling down is to use a higher percentage of boards for the profiling than than normal PoP cement materials.

So Sorry about your experience, you got involved with contractors/Installers who don't know their onions. 🚫 This has happened to many others as well, it's really a bad situation, Last year i had to help a client whose pop dangerously fell, to build a sturdy one.

Pop has been in existence for many years and it's one of the oldest building & artistic materials in history.
have done quite a few Pop projects for some Nlanders some i haven't even met them in person, and am certain it won't fall, that's an Assurance not a bluff".

I've shared severally on this Platform (check back on old pages of this thread) the pros & cons of doing a Pop false ceiling in buildings, what to expect, what not to expect, recommendations for clients, Pop in decking areas etc

Many has asked this question again!! Is POP reliable?

My Answer : Pop is reliable for decorative & interior applications but not suitable for structural strength or outdoor use without proper treatment.


Perhaps i'd again shed more light in my leisure time for more insights for prospective new members of this thread.

The binder you mentioned, is it what screeders call screeding gum? Secondly, what mixing ratio would you recommend of the various constituents of screeding, assuming a 100sqm internal wall using POP cement?

For the bolded...
5Kg of bond per drum of 20litres of screeding paint
With a mixture of 1kg of water proofing solution.

It’s most likely gypsum drywall board that was used. It’s better than POP because it’s well hung and there’s high level of neatness and precious their, if your installer is experienced and has the right tools.

It may be a bit expensive than normal POP. You can use dry hardwood, instead of those steel/metal, for those anchors.

One downside of it is that: it is flammable. A fiber cement board would be better for such job but using fiber cement board will increase your cost.

The bolded is a topic, we've dealt with on this platform on several occasion!
