Let me explain - If his shop can accommodate 1000 bags of cement only, your 30 bags is depriving him from re-stocking 30 bags because its taken up space. In a normal situation he wont mind, but with the present situation its a lose for him too.

The other argument is, but he has used your money for business too, YES - that's why you wont pay whatever the present price is but you'll pay an extra on the amount.

My Opinion thou - remember business has rules including IF YOU CAN'T DELIVER, RETURN THE BUYER'S MONIES.

The worst that wld happen if you take it too hard on him is a police case and the police wld only ask him to refund 100% of the money you gave him.... (see why shouting shd not be an option?)

Cement story is just a horrible one from 6 to 7-8 to 10 and now 13.

Best way going forward, is to buy materials ahead & keep, like we've always advised here. Do not wait till the next day if you have funds to get materials at hand, pay immediately.

In Accounting, there is what we call replacement cost..If the vendor decided to sell for 50 naira as you've advocated, abeg how is he going to get another one to his shop?

Am not advocating that he should sell for ₦50 naira, he is already selling for ₦150 ()the major issue is that the stock he bought for ₦50 per unit, he is already making a good profit selling for ₦150, but has decided to increase the price of that particular stock to ₦200, because there is increase in market price, dollar rate, scarcity, etc. The price impact on the product, if he decides to restock again, is not up to ₦100.

increasing the price of your goods to reflect the current costs isn't greed. I do it with the stock I have on ground cause I will go back to the market and buy at the new prices.


Greed is the same people who increased their prices because of "dollar" are yet to decrease same even with the naira making gains against the dollar.

This is wickedness and economic sabotage

Even when the current market price is slightly down, most vendors still have an issue, reducing to the initial cost price!

Not greed. It is called replacement costing strategy.
If a seller determines prices based of cost of purchase alone, such seller will be out of business in no time. It means, proceeds from sales will not be adequate to restock same item.
We are actually in an uncertain period as a country and everyone is trying to survive.

The situation on ground.. seems like economic sabotage Promax. I thought it was bad during GEJs tenure.. Buhari's government was worse and Tinubu's government goes hold my beer.

I made a quotation in the morning and the client said he will pay by evening. That afternoon, there was 1k increase in the cost of one of the materials. Calculate the quantity I need. So how do you discuss it with the client without sounding stupid and ignorant of your trade.

The bolded is a serious case! some clients are so kind to understand your predicament, you can't blame others (client) who feel it doesn't make sense, it's really annoying. The vendors are the greedy ones, a stock he bought for ₦50 per unit after calculating all expenses (Transportation cost etc) he decided to sell the stock to gain profit for ₦150 per unit, you go to this vendor to buy for ₦150 on Monday, the vendor will tell you that if you come the next day, he'd sell the same stock for ₦200 because market price has increased, the same stock he bought for ₦50 ooh.

Pure Greed!!!
