Kidnapping appears to be a lucrative business among hoodlums who forcefully abduct famous persons or their families. Afterwards, they demand certain amount of money as ransom before releasing the victims. CANDIIDONLINE has compiled a report on Super Eagles players and their family members who have been victims of kidnappers. 1. Christian Obodo Unknown gunmen recently kidnapped a former Super Eagles midfielder, Christian Obodo, along Refinery Road, Warri in Delta State. They abducted Obodo, 36, when he stopped by to buy bananas, the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, Onome Onovawakpoyeya revealed. ”Obodo was kidnapped at about 5pm on Sunday around Ishaka Hotel just along Refinery Road,” Onovawakpoyeya said. “He was with his girlfriend when he was abducted. They both stopped by the road to buy bananas.” She added that the kidnappers had not made any demand for his release. CANDIIDONLINE reports that this is the second time gunmen have kidnapped the former Udinese midfielder. Recall that they had previously abducted the former Nigeria international on his way to church in Warri sometime in 2012. But the day after the miscreants took him, police tracked his abductors to lsoko, just outside Warri, where they found Obodo and arrested some suspects. 2. Onyekachi Apam Armed men had also kidnapped ex-Eagles defender Onyekachi Apam in 2007. They abducted and robbed the Nigeria and Nice defender, at that time, at gunpoint in the city of Enugu. The kidnappers released Apam unharmed after a 45-minute ordeal, but the three-man armed gang took his Honda Accord car. The football star, who just turned 22 at that time, was returning from a church service when the incident took place. Apam told Nigeria’s Kick Off magazine: “This is a very sad experience for me. These tough-looking guys just pounced on me while I made efforts to park.” “They forced me to lie down at the back of the car and then they drove off. I just thank God that they did not harm me in any way.” 3. Joseph Yobo An elder brother of former Eagles captain Joseph Yobo was abducted in oil-rich Port Harcourt before being released 10 days later in 2018. Norum Yobo was one of three men taken from their car at gunpoint in Port Harcourt in Rivers State, Nigeria. Other two victims were immediately released, but Norum Yobo was held for long because of his brother’s high profile. The kidnapping took place in the B-Line area of Port Harcourt at around 4am on a Saturday morning after the trio had attended the Illussion Nite Club. 4. Mikel Obi In 2019, bandits abducted the father of the former Eagles captain Mikel Obi in Jos, the Plateau state capital. But the police rescued him days later. The former Super Eagles skipper had revealed that he received a call from the kidnappers 4 hours before kickoff in the decisive World Cup clash in St. Petersburg, and they demanded N10 million ($28,000 U.S.) for the safe return of his father, Pa Michael Obi. The elder Obi had set out to attend a funeral in southeastern Nigeria from Jos when gunmen abducted him along the Makurdi-Enugu expressway on June 26. However, the police rescued him and his driver after a “gun duel” in Egede, near the city of Udi in Enugu State. 5. Samuel Kalu Gunmen had also abducted the mother of Bordeaux winger Samuel Kalu in Aba, Abia State last year. They released her after she spent six days in the kidnappers’ den. Kneephy:The children of the stupendously rich can also have talents |
Good morning, my beautiful people on Nairaland. I am 30 years old but I just thought of an idea I would like to share to see how those around us during our childhood days inspired us to be who we are today. I had my boyhood days in Minna, the capital of Niger State. The city has raised many successful army Generals who have made it popular. We have the likes of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, Gen. Mamman Vatsa, Lt. Gen. Mohammed Wushishi, and Major-Gen. Gado Nasko. Generals Babangida and Abubakar were former Heads of State and Commander In Chief of the armed forces. They are still next door neighbors in Minna today. While, the other three were Federal Ministers who handled key portfolios in government. So, in the comment section, list five successful people who have made your childhood city popular.

Ever since Kunle Afolayan’s hit movie ‘Citation’ debuted on Netflix, the one star that has quickly gained renown as the newest, and yet most talked-about Nollywood actress is Temi Otedola. This is because the lovely 24-years-old daughter of billionaire businessman and philanthropist Femi Otedola raised a ruckus playing the Moremi Oluwa, the lead character in Citation. She set the social media, on fire with positive comments about her performance in the brain burster flick. One key thing that has kept many talking about Temi’s outing in the film is that in spite of Citation being her debut acting gig, she managed to outshine veterans like Joke Silva, Ibukun Awosika (Chairman of First Bank of Nigeria), Ini Edo, Gabriel Afolayan, Wole Olowomojuore, Seun Kuti, and Toyin Ogundeji. Temi Otedola masterfully ‘burnt the script’. Once again, like her sister – DJ Cuppy, Temi proved that even the children of the rich and wealthy can be talented too. A true chip off the old block, Temi like her father – Femi Otedola – who commands the attention of all and sundry wherever he goes, had charmed her way into the hearts of even some movie award platforms within such a very short time. Having noted that she made a big impression on her acting debut, we must also stress another issue that is causing uproar in some sections of the movie industry. That is, her getting a “Revelation of the Year Award” nomination in the Best of Nollywood (BON) awards 2020. Some industry players who kick against her nomination argue that Citation just premiered less than a month ago. So, they insist that it would usually take a year after the release to earn a nomination. Another school of thought insinuate that her father’s influence and popularity may have come into play. Well, it is not for the Candiidonline team to speculate about how she earned the nomination. We’ll rather let you form your own opinion on the matter. For now, let’s tell you about the movie -Citation. The story revolves around the experiences of a young and intelligent young lady, Moremi. Temi Otedola plays Moremi’s character. She takes on the academic establishment when she reported a popular professor who tried to rape her. The film exposes the public to the moral decadence in tertiary institutions. What happens when a young lady under pressure decides to speak up? Who gets the short end of the stick? These are the main themes Temi and her fellow film stars artfully rendered. If she has amassed so great a following from her first film, one wonders what is to come. For rising Nollywood actress , Temi Otedola, this really is only the beginning. Kazeem Muritala a.k.a. Eekana Aja, is one of the top Yoruba actors who have spent nearly 30 years in the game. He has mostly appeared in epic films which promote the practice of Yoruba culture and history. Eekana Aja has acted in various movie/TV series and has also produced many of his own. He granted an interview to Ojopagogo TV, where he shared some of his experiences while shooting some of these epic films. Read excerpts below: Who is Eekana Aja? I am Kazeem Muritala a.k.a. Eekana Aja. I am a full-time actor and movie producer. I started joining the theatre troupe since I was still in primary school. This was when my late boss, Aderopo just concluded a TV series called Arelu. He left Jimoh Aliu that year and would go about from school to school to perform live on stage. So he came to my school back then for a Live performance. Immediately I saw him, I rushed to him and told him I had interest in acting, and that I'd love to join his troupe. Coincidentally, he has chosen my village as the base where he will be training his students, and that made it easy for me. That was how I joined Mr. Aderopo in 1987. I was Primary 4 at that time. Did you attempt to do any other job since then? No. I did not attempt any other job. But I went to Primary School. I also went to Secondary School and proceeded to Osun State College of Technology, Esa Oke for my National Diploma. I was acting in between these times. How did you cope back then? It was very tough, I must say. We used to carry loads for our bosses while we were still under training. Similarly, we would carry loads from one village to another because there was no home video during that time. We would also go to village squares, town halls and schools. The major challenge we faced aside from the stress of traveling by road to these villages is that we were just doing the job for the love of it. Money was not coming in as expected for our boss and we were not getting any at all. But we were pushing hard despite. There were many times that I have gone to shoot movies with people in the deep forest and by the time we would want to go back, there would be logistic problems. There was a time we shot Osa Eleye, with another boss of mine, Dagunro of late memory. We have gone into the forest to shoot the movie. Late Yomi Ogunmola was the director of the movie. The bus had conveyed the first set of people. By the time the bus is coming back to pick us, it developed mechanical fault. This is a place that will take 2 hours to drive by bus. We started trekking from 12 pm. And so, we got to our base in Osogbo by 3 am. We trekked for 15 hours! We got to Dagunro's house and fell in front of his house, we slept there till dawn. This is one of the many challenges. Another challenge that I can also remember was when I became a producer. Back in 2004, when I wanted to shoot my movie. The location was in Ore. The place is called Akintola. We wanted to shoot the scene where the witches are holding meetings. I have set the camera upon one of the rocks in the town and the cast is set for the scene. But anytime the director screams ACTION, the camera will catch fire. We initially thought it was a misconnection problem, but we couldn't find a solution to it for many hours. After many attempts with no workable solution, one old priest in the village called us and informed us that our camera will not work because we are trespassing on the land of the real witches. He said we are even disturbing them as they are about to hold their meeting about the same time. He said if we are not careful, one of the cast will die that night if we don't appease them. So, I was asked to go and look for ten 20 naira notes. I rushed to get them and brought them before the man. He then took me out on a journey and would ask me to stretch out each 20naira note, I will stretch it out and someone invisible will collect it from me. This was how I stretch out all the money and it all disappeared. The ram that I bought that we intend to slaughter the next day for food went missing the next day. I cried out to see if anyone had seen and the priest told me not to look for it. He said someone who would have gone missing in our midst has been replaced with the ram. These are some of the challenges that we face in the profession. Are you fulfilled with the profession? Except if I want to lie. The profession pays me so well. Ever since I finished school, I had no other job. I have been able to feed my immediate family and send my kids to school. It has been a wonderful journey so far.
