i good thing about ubuntu is that if it finds a file it doesnt have any supporting extension to run it with, it prompts you to go on line to find a valid extension to run that file with.

what type of media player are you using? have you performed a major update on your system to get updates for packages running on your system,

and like muyiscoi said, u can download vlc player, which in turn would download every codec you need.

if u use a lower version to version 9.04, try updating your gnome network manager,

that should solve ur problem, d network manager is configured to auto detect mobile broadband's for MTN, Celtel and GLO, but you can configure any other Mobile broadband manually,

the hardware auto installs by itself, so u don't need any installation,

wat make is your laptop?

if you use hp, press escape it would then take you to a menu, where u can get diagnostic tools for your system, u would have to use the HARDDISK check tool dere to help solve your problem,

but with regards to other laptops that i dont know, but try getin into your BIOS setup, there should be a HARDDISK utility tool in there,

Remember if your system ships in with an OS its becos the OS supports the systems hardware configure, dont install an OS that wont support your HARDWARE oh, u would have to start looking for hardware drivers after everything,

the best idea is d last option by ynot,

let windows fix your boot loader for you.

use yor installation cd and repair instead of reinstall,

den use the following commands he started.

fixmbr ----- would fix your Master Boot Record.
and
fixboot -------would fix Boot.ini.

but if u dont have ur boot cd,

use msconfig, go to the boot tab, then restore to default, bam
se fini

simply open d attached and run the following command

then copy and paste the sources into your sources list, then run your update

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm,

i now see that the UBUNTU craze is flying in here, i currently use ubuntu jaunty and windows vista on my hp tx2000 series and God the jaunty works like mad (stylus,touch screen, touch senstive, webcam, finger print reader, just name it ubuntu jaunty got it all), the only thing im lacking now is a wifi card for spoofing, lol

well ubuntu 9.04 is good, prefer gnome to kde, kde tends to be flashy, but stupid, gnome is easy and rugged, my kde crashed like 3 times, becos of some useless spoofing activity but gnome is trivin in all aspect,

gnomes network manager is preferable than odas, tried ndiswrapper shit that thin is useless, cant connect my mobile, cdma to my pc, had to switch back to gnomes network manager, d only problem im facing with gnome now is the battery manager, that thing lies alot, still finding a way to upgrade or get a new batteru manager, but would stick to it until gnome releases a better version,
