PoliticsRise In Politics Of Hate: Enone Federal Constituency In Perspective by HappyNigerian(op):
In recent times, it has become increasingly disheartening to witness the rise of politics rooted in division, hate, and intolerance within our constituency, Enone. This toxic rhetoric, which seeks to exploit our differences rather than celebrate our unity, only deepens societal wounds and hampers progress. It is a stark reminder that, when politics becomes a tool for sowing discord, the true interests of the people are forgotten in the chaos of petty rivalries.

Our politicians, religious leaders, traditional rulers, community and opinion leaders bear a great responsibility in shaping the future of our constituency. It is imperative that they rise above personal and partisan interests to champion policies that genuinely serve the public good.

This means prioritizing sustainable development, improving access to quality education, healthcare, women empowerment, youth development, jobs creation and working to bridge the gaps of inequality that persist in our constituency.

Rather than indulging in the politics of hate, we must come together to advocate for policies that promote peace, unity, and development and not personal or party interests. Our leaders must focus on creating an environment where the needs of the masses are met, where every individual has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their backgrounds or affiliations.

We need political discourses and approaches that will lift up the Enone Federal Constituency, not those that tear it apart because of interests. I urge our leaders at all levels, to take a stand against this divisive approach and redirect all efforts towards building a future grounded in justice, equity, and lasting prosperity for all.

Only through policies rooted in understanding and compassion can we ensure the growth and well-being of our constituency as a whole. The politics of hate in Enone, will take us nowhere.

RomanceRe: 35 Is Not Too Late For Marriage by HappyNigerian: 11:53pm On Nov 23, 2024
35+ can be challenging for both genders.

For the men, they usually go for ladies in their 20s, the challenge is that those in their early 20s do not desire them (except they are of high status), a lot of those in the mid 20s are either in serious relationship or hoeing. Only a few percent of wife material in their mid and late 20s and desperate 30s (most of whom they don't find attractive) are literally available to them.

For the women, their case is worse. Men in their age bracket are either married or in the process or looking for wife material of 20s. They are however limited to a very minuscule unmarried men of late 30s and 40s. Their other saving grace are men in their 50s that desire second or third wife.

Foreign AffairsFounder Of Edmark Group Invited By Interpol For Money Laundering, Terrorism by HappyNigerian(op): 10:56am On Nov 22, 2024
Sam Low Ban Chai, the founder and chairman of Edmark Industries based in Malaysia, has been invited by the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) over strong allegations bordering on signature forgery of his minority partner, Maurice Etim over corporate resolutions, financial statements, tax returns, unauthorized bank accounts, and the appointment of new directors without his knowledge.

Following a petition by Maurice Etim, the Attorney General of the Federation, directed that Interpol conduct an investigation where it was discovered that Sam Low had opened and closed over 500 bank accounts for Edmark and subsidiaries companies without the knowledge of his partner Maurice Etim, a director and minority shareholder in several Edmark Group companies in Nigeria which was in flagrant disregard to board resolutions and approvals actions which Etim found prejudicial.

The invitation by INTERPOL CR: 3000/X/ICPO/FHQ/ABJ/TFM/CBRNE-/VOL3/99, states inter alia, this bureau is investigating a case of criminal conspiracy, fraudulent diversion, cheating, forgery and money laundering in which your name featured prominently. In light of the following, you are respectfully invited to appear at the INTERPOL head office, Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Shehu Shagari Way, Abuja for an interview with the Assistant Inspector General of Police and Head, National Central Bureau, INTERPOL. Similar invitation was extended to Donald Anih, head of Edmark legal department and company secretary who was appointed without board resolution and approval

Following the investigation by Interpol, Sam Low Ban Chai fled Nigeria and moved all the foreign staff in eleven branches nationwide. From Malaysia, he hired Ebun Adegboruwa who he has used to frustrate several court orders and police investigations.

Legal experts are wondering why a SAN in the mould of Adegboruwa are placing hurdles in the path of justice by trying to frustrate an investigation that borders on weighty allegations bordering on terrorism financing. It will be recalled that the Federal government of Nigeria had charged Binance, a top crypto firm with laundering $35.4m, tax evasion offences and financing terrorism. And just like Binance, the actions by the founder of Edmark is part of a broader international pattern of money laundering and terrorism financing and the courts here, as in other jurisdictions, should hold the company and its executives accountable.

PoliticsEl-Rufai, Kamala Harris And Nigerian Politicians’ Hypocrisy - Kabir-Yesbit by HappyNigerian(op): 12:54pm On Aug 28, 2024
It is funny how Nigerian politicians change colours like the chameleon. When they are in power, they behave as if power is their inheritance and life possession that they can hold on to forever. However, when power unfolds its true nature to them as a transient and ephemeral object, they will start throwing tantrums. They become experts in lobbing jabs at the establishment as if they have been a radical hothead, always non-conformist, all their lives. Such people will be bitter, loquacious, and irreverent. Well, maybe these apply to some of them. A few of them can manage the out-of-power situation with grace and equanimity.

Yesterday’s men who were running down all the other people opposed to their camp when they were in power, those who were defending all the wrong policies of the past administration and boasting that they could make the afternoon become overwhelmed with darkness are now preaching good conduct after they have lost power.

It is from this perspective that I view the recent tweet by Mallam Nasir Ahmad El Rufai, former Governor of Kaduna State. In the tweet, he used a quote by the US Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Kamala Harris to charge Nigerian politicians about the need to churn envy and what in local parlance is also known as the ‘Pull-Him-Down syndrome’.

In a seven-paragraph commentary released on Sunday on his X (formerly known as Tweeter) handle, El Rufai quoted the section of Harris’s speech at the party’s recently concluded national convention that: “NONE of us has to fail for ALL of us to succeed. And in unity, there is strength”. The former governor of Kaduna State then commented that “envy is quite prevalent amongst the key actors in our political system”. He added that “competence, capacity, and commitment are some personal leadership qualities that attract the envy of those lacking or deficient in these indices”.

Reading through El Rufai ‘s commentary, one cannot but conclude that it is a good message delivered by a bad and hypocritical messenger. The former governor of Kaduna State represents all the bad attributes in the Nigerian political system that he cautioned against in that commentary. He is the one who specialises in destroying those he considers his possible rivals. He is the typical power monger. He deliberately aligns himself with the man at the apex of power and uses that proximity to victimize, undermine, and endanger those he considers likely rivals.

He would also be arrogant while dealing with such rivals who are unfortunate enough not to have the ears of the powerful man that El Rufai had manipulated and made to hate the people he just marked out for destruction. He always seeks to be the only star on the horizon. He talks about competence, capacity, and commitment. He should search his mind very well. He will come up with a list of politicians with a bigger quantum of such values that he has shot down or destroyed.

Let El Rufai tell Nigerians what motivated the war of attrition that he waged against the three Senators who represented his state between 2015 and 2019. I am talking of Senators Shehu Sani, Danjuma Lar, and Suleiman Hunkuyi. He demolished Hunkuyi’s house as a way of financially weakening him. Was that act not malice, abuse of power, persecution, and mental torture borne out of envy and political rivalry?

It is an open secret that when Bukola Saraki emerged as Senate President against the expectations of some APC leaders, El Rufai was part of the clique that poisoned President Muhammadu Buhari’s mind that Saraki would move against his presidency using the power of his office as head of the legislature.

Is it a coincidence that El Rufai was initially listed as one of the five witnesses to testify for the Federal Government against Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal between 2015 and 2016? See Vanguard Newspaper report on October 17, 2015. He was said to be one of the hawks pushing the Buhari government to deal with the then-Senate President. This power clique came up with the idea that the trial at the CCT was the easiest and fastest way to nail Saraki and get him out of the Senate Presidency.

Some of the propaganda against Saraki, when he was Senate President between 2015 and 2019, was sponsored from Kaduna, including the billboards erected near the National Assembly complex which were used to publish disparaging messages against Saraki. The Saraki case was a perfect example of how Nigerian politicians “nurtured destructive thoughts and actions, including unspeakable crimes like perjury, malicious prosecution, unlawful imprisonment, torture and even more” against the subject of their envy and petty jealousy. And who was the lead schemer? The new preacher, Mallam El Rufai.

In the same manner, he waged a campaign of calumny against Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu at a time when he believed Buhari had made up his mind not to support the then APC leader. That was in May 2019 at a conference organised by the Bridge Club headed by Barrister Muiz Banire, SAN, an aggrieved protege of Tinubu. El Rufai proclaimed that he would teach the people of Lagos State how to deal with and incapacitate a Godfather, by which he meant Tinubu.

Even after the 2022 APC convention where Tinubu emerged as presidential candidate, he was still reluctant to work for the man. He grudgingly came on board with a huge sense of entitlement. When he lost out on the sharing of ministerial positions, he started moving around mobilising support and preaching that envy, hate, and malice are the bane of Nigerian politics. Is he just waking up to this reality? Has he just become so wise that he can now sermonise about how his specialty – the Pull Him Down syndrome – has destroyed Nigerian politics and deprived it of men and women with capacity, competence, and commitment?

Is it not this same El Rufai who declared on national television that international observers sent to monitor the 2019 general election in Nigeria could “return to their country as body bags”?

As an academic who is not a member of any political party and who is not interested in contesting elections, my interest is the development of our country and to ensure the politicians provide good governance. It is for this reason, I urge Nigerians not to be taken in by insincere sermons being delivered by selfish politicians.

With that message on X (formerly Twitter), El Rufai is simply bemoaning his current fate. He has not had any change of mind and like the leopard, he cannot change his skin. He is out of power now and he is not enjoying it. He cannot imagine that he could be dumped out of the government he believed he helped in putting into office. He is just using those comments to console himself and plan for when the table will turn in his favour. By now, he probably has a list of men that must go down for him to rise and those he will shoot down when he returns to power. He is a hypocrite of the highest order.

To take him seriously, El Rufai should go and do right by the numerous people he had pulled down out of envy. He should seek atonement for his numerous sins against Nigeria and its people. He should also continue to seek forgiveness from his maker.

Kabir-Yesbit, Ph.D, a university lecturer, writes from Abuja.

National Youth Alliance Slams Opposition Leaders for Abandoning Nigerians In The Face Of Tinubu Obsession For Personal Comfort

The National Youth Alliance (NYA) has lambasted leaders of major opposition parties for their silence and inaction in the face of President Bola Tinubu's alleged acquisition of assets for personal comfort and favoritism towards his allies.

In a statement released on Thursday, NYA's Youth President and National Chairman, Ambassador Aliyu Bin Abbas, criticized the opposition leaders for failing to take action against President Tinubu's alleged excesses. These include the acquisition of a N1 billion Cadillac Escalade, a N5 billion yacht, a N238 billion jet, and other luxuries, despite the widespread hardship and dwindling economic fortunes of Nigerians.

The NYA leader also pointed out that under President Tinubu's watch, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has transferred all its retail outlets to Oando, a company owned by a relative of the President. Additionally, the Tinubu government has reportedly approved the construction of a 700km highway to an offshore company owned by his son, Seyi, and the son of his friend, Chagoury.

Ambassador Abbas questioned the motive of the opposition parties leaders, wondering if they have compromised or are in a working alliance with President Tinubu that Nigerians do not know about.

He expressed concern that while the President "quietly acquires Nigeria like he did Lagos," the opposition parties remains silent, pretending like all is well.

The NYA leader emphasized that it is not enough for the so-called opposition parties leaders to sit in their comfort zones, posting a few messages on Twitter and Facebook, and then moving on. "We need concrete actions, not just social media rhetoric," he said.

Despite the dire situation, Ambassador Abbas urged Nigerians not to despair nor give up hope. Instead, he called on them to unite and join their voices with the NYA as they take bold steps to rescue and rebuild Nigeria from the brink of collapse.

"We will not let the hyenas destroy our country. We will fight for Nigeria's future through every democratic and lawful means," he declared.

The NYA vowed to continue standing as a strong voice for the people of Nigeria and promised to do more when certified as a political party.

Politics$3.3 Billion Controversial Loan: FG, APC Betraying Nigeria's Future - NYA by HappyNigerian(op): 1:59pm On Aug 19, 2024
The National Youth Alliance is outraged by the Federal Government's dealings in obtaining a $3.3 billion emergency loan from the African Export-Import Bank on August 16, 2023. This loan, as revealed by former VP Atiku Abubakar, facilitated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), is suspectedly shady, a blatant betrayal of Nigerians' trust, and a recipe for disaster.

The lack of transparency and accountability surrounding this deal is appalling. The government's claim that the loan is meant to support the Naira and stabilize the Foreign Exchange market is a mere smokescreen. The Naira's value has plummeted, and there is no evidence that the loan has been used for its intended purpose - if indeed they have accessed the loan!

The loan's terms are equally outrageous - an interest rate of 12% and repayment with 90,000 barrels of crude oil per day, starting from 2024. With the benchmark price for crude oil in 2024 at $77.96 per barrel, Nigeria is expected to repay a staggering $12 billion ($77.96 per barrel x 164.25 million barrels). This is nothing short of economic slavery.

We demand answers to the following questions:

- Is this loan part of the approved borrowing plan?
- How can Nigeria repay an estimated $12 billion when the loan amount is $3.3 billion and the repayment amount is estimated to be $3.906 billion as per the 12% interest?
- Who benefits from the extra estimated $8.094 billion?
- Why are the details of this deal shrouded in secrecy?

Unfortunately, the National Assembly has become a mere rubber stamp for the President, and is unlikely to investigate this controversial loan. But we will not sit and watch while our future is being mortgaged for selfish interests.

PoliticsN65 Million Water Project Falls Short: Kwara Rural Communities Remain Thirsty by HappyNigerian(op): 10:57pm On Aug 13, 2024
On a sweltering July afternoon in Ijagbo, a community within Kwara State's Oyun Local Government Area, the sky hung heavy with clouds poised to unleash a torrent of rain. But for Usman Adam, a resident of the small hamlet of Gaa Adamu, the looming downpour offered little comfort. His furrowed brow betrayed a deeper concern - the debilitating water shortage that had long plagued his hometown, leaving its residents in a state of perpetual thirst.

The lack of a dependable water source had turned life into a constant struggle, compelling residents of the community to undertake a grueling, miles-long trek in pursuit of potable water to meet their basic needs.

“The major problem in this community is that we suffer water scarcity a lot. Even though we have wells, we can't even get enough water for daily survival. There is no water to drink, cook and even use the toilet,” Usman told SaharaReporters.

He continued: “The alternative we have is a good Samaritan, living about 30 miles away, who has a borehole in his house. However, it's not every day we have access to fetch water in his house, sometimes, they won't allow members of the community to fetch when they also don't have water.”

With deep sincerity, Usman implored the government to provide their community with the precious gift of piped water, which would be a monumental blessing and a tremendous respite. He stressed that having a reliable piped water system would bring immense relief, significantly easing their daily struggles and vastly enhancing their overall well-being.

“In this village, we have two hamlets. I learned the other hamlet has one solar-powered borehole serving them, however, I'm not sure if it's still working,” he concluded.

Jooro, a resident of a nearby community just a few meters from Usman's, shared a similar tale of woe.
He recounted the struggles they had been facing due to the acute water scarcity, contrasting the good old days with the dire situation they now found themselves in.

He nostalgically remembered a time when access to water was not a challenge, but lamented how things had taken a turn for the worse, leaving them to suffer the consequences of this basic necessity.

He said, “The issue of water scarcity is one of the headaches the people of this community battle with. We have a solar-powered borehole here.

“However, the pumping machine generated a defect two years back, the repairer said he is going to fix it at the rate of 500,000 naira,” he added.

The escalating rate of inflation has made repairing the faulty pumping machine an unaffordable luxury for the people of Gaa Jooro, leaving them with no choice but to endure the suffering caused by the resulting water scarcity. The ever-increasing costs have turned what should be a simple fix into an insurmountable challenge for the rural community.

“We have pleaded to the government several times to come and fix it for us, but all our pleas were in their deaf ears. So we have no other choice than to suffer,” Jooro said.
The water scarcity in Jooro has forced residents to turn to unreliable sources to meet their daily needs. SaharaReporters discovered that the community relies heavily on seasonal rainwater and wells, which are often dry, especially during the dry season. As a result, residents are frequently left without access to water, making bathing a luxury for them.

“The rain is the surest and this may take like five months before it starts. There is always a restriction to fetch well water because there are only a few people that have it in this community,” Jooro's wife lamented.

She continued: “Sometimes when we go to people's houses to fetch water (well) with the hope that we can use it in doing chores to allow our students to go to school, they will send us away like we are not humans. This situation even made my children frustrated about going to school every morning.”

N65 Million Down the Drain, Yet no Potable Water

According to the Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS), 60 million Nigerians do not have access to drinking water. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) notes that contaminated water leads to diseases such as diarrhoea, which annually kills more than 70,000 children below the age of five.

To avoid a breakout of such in Oyun Local Government Area, Kwara Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in 2020 awarded a contract worth 65 million naira to Seamface Global Solution for the rehabilitation of the Oyun water works.

This investment aimed to restore a reliable water supply to rural communities like Gaa Jooro and Gaa Adamu, addressing the long-standing issue of water scarcity.

A visit to the facility in July 2024 revealed that the project was complete. While the completion of the project earned praise from traditional leaders in Oyun, it failed to bring relief to several communities in the council which Gaa Jooro and Gaa Adamu are inclusive.

These communities remain cut off from access to potable water, forcing them to rely on rainfall and alternative sources. The state's intervention, intended to alleviate water scarcity, has unfortunately not benefited these rural communities, leaving them to continue suffering from water shortages.

Despite the public funds committed to the project, residents of the communities are yet to derive the value for the money as they still scramble for water to meet their daily needs, even during the coronavirus pandemic four years ago.

Children Tend to Suffer the Most from Absence of Potable Water

The widespread lack of access to clean and potable water in numerous Nigerian households has been a significant factor in the prevalence of waterborne diseases, including cholera, typhoid, and many others, posing a major public health concern across the country.

According to UNICEF, children bear the brunt of this lack. It said, “While all can feel the impact of water scarcity, no one suffers more than the most vulnerable children. Children and families living in vulnerable communities face the double-edged sword of coping with high water scarcity levels while having the lowest water services, making access to sufficient water especially susceptible to climate shocks and extreme events.”

Over 29% of Nigerian children experience high or extremely high water vulnerability. This means that 3 out of 10 children in Nigeria do not drink safe water daily.

Government Keeps Mum

Despite numerous attempts, SaharaReporters was unable to obtain an official response from the state government regarding our findings. Honourable Usman Lade, the state commissioner of water resources, did not answer repeated phone calls and has yet to respond to multiple WhatsApp and direct messages seeking his comment on the matter.
