Crime / PHOTO: 19 Yr Old Girl Caught While Dumping Her Baby In The Bush by harbdulrasaq88(m): 9:50am On Jun 15, 2017
According to reports, the young woman identified as Adebayo Ayomide, fled to Bariga after dumping her baby in a bush in Ikorodu. The baby was found with its mouth, head, neck and nose tied with a piece of cloth, and looked like it had not been bathed for a couple of days.

The father of Ayomide's baby, identified as Tewogbade Martins, claimed that she had been sleeping around, leading his parents to reject the baby. He later admitted to the police that he was responsible for the pregnancy.

The baby was rescued from the bush when some members of a vigilante group acted upon their instincts to check the movement they noticed.

A member of the vigilante group reportedly recognised the baby as belonging to Ayomide, which led to her being traced to Bariga.

Ayomide said she had dumped her baby after a prophet told her that her baby was possessed. She also claimed she didn't have the means to take care of her baby and didn't want to bother other people. The baby was eventually given to Martin's mother.

The management of Ikeja Electric (IE), on Tuesday, inaugurated a whistle blowing platform to enable customers to reveal or report illegal and unethical activities in a safe, confidential and secure manner for immediate attention.

A statement by Mr Felix Olufue, the Head of Corporate Communications of the company, said the platform would be independently managed by Deloite, one of Nigeria’s leading professional service firms.

According to him, the platform allows customers to report anonymously by making or using multiple channels — a toll-free hotline, email platform, a web-based service and a mobile app available on IOS and Android.

Ofulue said the new platform was one of the many measures put in place to encourage transparency and accountability.

He said with the introduction of the platform, customers could now confidentially report matters bothering on fraud, bribery, extortion, energy theft through illegal connections, vandalism and all actions detrimental to the society.

“By connecting our customers directly with the professional services provider responsible for the management the platform, we have provided a means for us to work together with the customers to expose all forms of illegal and unethical behaviour on our network,” he said.

He said that the company was committed to the highest standards of openness, probity and accountability.

The Head of Corporate Communications said “our subscription to the whistle blowing platform is in line with our core values of professionalism, integrity and discipline, and our commitment to uphold the highest ethical standards in all our dealings with the public.

“Intending whistle-blowers can make reports in English, Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba or French by calling the Toll-free hotline 0800TIPOFFS (08008476337).

“Consumers can send an email to expressyourself@ikejaelectric.com or visit IE website www.ikejaelectric.com/whistlebloeing for more information.

“Customers can also download Deloitte Tip-offs Anonymous Mobile App from Google Play Store or iTunes Store,” he said.

Ofulue assured intending whistle-blowers that in line with global best practices, the company had taken adequate measures to protect their identities by ensuring that the platform is safe secure and highly confidential.

He, however, cautioned customers against giving false and malicious reports.

“As a company poised to continually deliver excellent services to its customers, it is pertinent to maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards all unwarranted forms of behaviour across its network of operations, in order to achieve its goals,” Ofulue added.

Politics / Nigeria On The Verge Of Another Civil War – Pastor Tunde Bakare by harbdulrasaq88(m): 11:25am On May 29, 2017
The General Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, Lagos, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has warned that Nigeria is on the verge of another Civil War following the yet-to-be addressed incessant killings of other Nigerians by herdsmen.

Bakare spoke during his sermon on Sunday, declaring that the “country is moving towards another collapse” with the division among different groups and violence in the country.

Speaking on the topic, “All Things are Ready,” the cleric lamented that Nigerians might be forced to retaliate against the rampaging herdsmen.

He said, “We are at the verge of another collapse, if care is not taken. We are pushing ourselves into the (edge of the) precipice of another civil war.

“All these marauders, called herdsmen; if you don’t checkmate them quickly, and the people begin retaliation against what they are doing, we will begin to kill ourselves again.

“And violence and corruption will rob us of the great future which God has for us.”

Culture / Why I 'snubbed' Ooni Of Ife – Oba Akiolu by harbdulrasaq88(m): 8:23am On Apr 28, 2017
Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, Thursday evening cleared the air on the video that showed him snubbing the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, at a public function in Lagos.

Oba Akiolu said his gesture was not ‘snub’ as being dubbed but that it was the culturally acclaimed way of greeting a monarch in Lagos.

Oba Akiolu has received several knocks over the incident.

Oba Akiolu spoke through one of the white cap chiefs of Lagos, Lateef Aderibigbe Ajose, who is the Opeluwa Onido of Lagos.

Ajose said the Lagos monarch did not ignore Ooni of Ife at the public function as being misconceived by people.

He said Oba Akiolu’s response to Oba Ogunwusi was the culturally acclaimed way of greeting a monarch in Lagos.

He added that the Lagos King is basically trying to revive the culture and tradition of ancient Lagos, which is peculiar to the State.

Other tribes also have their peculiar ways of greeting, he said.

Ajose stated: “The sign by Oba Akiolu signifies ‘inu mi, inu e’, the culture of greeting in Lagos.

“If Oba Akiolu wanted to ignore, he would have turned his face away from Ooni.

“There is no misunderstanding between both highly revered monarchs in Yorubaland.”

According to Ajose, the relationship between both Yoruba kings is peaceful and mutual.

He said: “Oba Akiolu was well represented at the coronation of Ooni of Ife, which attested to the fact that he does not disregard the office of Ooni Adeyeye.”

Chief Ajose said Oba Akiolu had waited till this time to react to the issue because he had to meet with other chiefs in the palace to rub minds before addressing the public on the matter.

He said: “There is no sentiment in the culture of Lagos. As we met it, that is the way we are doing it.

“Kabiyesi Oba Akiolu is trying to bring back the old pattern, the old culture we have left behind.

“What happened that day was wrongly speculated by the social media to disrupt peace and order and misinterpret Oba Akiolu’s action.

“We just want to appeal to the social media to stop spreading wrong information.

“They should try and understand the reason behind every action carried out, most especially by traditional rulers. “Yoruba has a very rich culture.

“There is no quarrel between the Oba of Lagos and Ooni of Ife.”

he Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone “C” of Nigeria Customs Service in Owerri said it had seized 102, 099 cartons of illegally imported frozen poultry products with duty paid value of N1.27 billion.

Comptroller Mohammed Garba, the Area Controller of the zone, disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Owerri on Thursday.

He said the contraband had been destroyed in accordance with government policy.

Garba said poultry products were still under import prohibition and would be seized and destroyed in compliance with the relevant laws and government policies.

He said the items were being conveyed in a Mack Truck with Reg. No. AJL 861 XA along Benin-Ekiadolor axis in Edo State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the poultry items included turkey parts, chicken parts and poultry gizzard, amongst others.

The comptroller reiterated the commitment of his officers to ensure that smuggling in any form was brought to a minimal level.

“As trained officers in the course of our duty, when we intercept any suspected good and confirm it to be brought in contrary to the laws, it will be seized and disposed of.

“We will continue to make sure that the public is adequately informed so that importation will be done in conformity with the laws to stem the menace of smuggling,” he said.

Garba urged Nigerians not to patronise imported frozen poultry products as they were adversely affecting the nation’s poultry industry and were also injurious to health.

“We have to encourage farmers and those in the agriculture sector to be productive, self-reliant, provide employment and boost the economy instead of sending out our foreign exchange and encouraging capital flight,” he said.

He said that three suspects were in custody in connection with the seizures and would soon be charged to court.

Garba called on smugglers to shun such negative activities and engage in legitimate trades to boost the economy.

NAN reports that at the destruction of the poultry products was done in the presence of representatives of other security agencies including the Nigerian Police Force and the Department of State Security.

Others were the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and members of the press.(NAN)
