A young man reportedly caused a scene in Abuja where Muslim faithfuls gathered to pray and celebrate a popular Islamic festival.

There was a mild drama as thousands of followers of Tijjaniya Islamic sect celebrated Maulud of Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass, the birth of Prophet Muhammed in Abuja. A young man climbed the street light during the celebration and refused to come down as other followers begged him for quite some time before changing his mind, according to reports.

Also, the sect members, who came from all parts of the north literally took over the major streets in the Central Business District as they parked their vehicles indiscriminately on the roads and set up camps right on the expressways.

The Muslim faithful were said to have celebrated the Maulud at the National Mosque on Friday, but motorists and residents had to contend with serious discomfort as the visitors shut down the major roads and streets around the mosque.

Big Brother Naija eviction show, held on Sunday, is entangled in a controversy.

After Teddy A and Bambam were evicted, viewers raised concerns that the results may have been tampered with.

A viewer calculated the votes polled by each nominated housemates and realised that they did not add up to 100 percent.

According to the votes announced, Nina had 44.00 percent, CeeC had 24.38 percent, Teddy A had 16.81 percent and BamBam gathered 13.37 percent.

Highlighting the errors, a viewer @ib_Granville tweeted: “Votes don’t sum up to 100%. Wrong display, it’s usually in form of a bar chart with their names, not pictures. That’s not the official portrait for BamBam, a different picture was used.

“Total votes is 98.56% please what happened to the remaining 1.44%?? The results were leaked yesterday and it looks like the results were altered so a certain housemate won’t be evicted.”


Subsequently, BBNaija responded on Instagram, blaming the error on an “incorrect percentage”.

“Dear viewers, an incorrect percentage was published for Nina during this night’s eviction show.

“While we deeply regret this error, we wish to state that the audited and verified percemtage for Nina is 45.44 percent as opposed to the previously published 44 percent.

“We thank you for your usual support and understanding.”

“Growing up in the slum helps you to find yourself,” she mused. “It’s either you are defined or you are not. Growing up as a child in Ajegunle, it’s either you get lost or it helps you find your way. Right now, there are so many mistakes I can’t make. I see many ladies misbehave, if I am able to overcome it at childhood I can’t start doing it now.

As a child I have always known what I wanted. In my room I had a write-up that when I become eighteen I would rent my own apartment. My dad saw it and he was like “Where are you going by eighteen?” I told him I want to be able to get my own apartment and make my own money. He just laughed it off. I think that decision helped me to cultivate the desire to make my own money and do it the right way,” she added.

On what she has learnt from being a practitioner in Nollywood;

“I have learnt to be patient. I have learnt to understand that people’s destinies are different. I have also learnt to understand that not everybody will appreciate your style, not everybody will understand where you are coming from. All you need as a person is focus. The easiest thing to do is to get distracted. The easiest thing to do in this industry is to follow the trend. If you have a style and you are able to stick to it, as long as you know that you are doing the right thing, you will get to where you desire,” she stated with a note of finality.

15-year-old Ajibola Oluwatosin Olumayowa has emerged as the best candidate so far in the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), following the release of results, Vanguard reports.

It was initially believed that a Corona Secondary School student, Ibukun Oduntan, had the highest score, as he earned 344 marks.

Newshelm.ng gathers that Olumayowa's school, Taidob College, Asero Estate, Abeokuta, Ogun state, however disclosed to newsmen on Wednesday, March 21, that their student had emerged with the highest score of 349. A statement signed by one Dare Adedotun read: "Ajibola Oluwatosin from Egdbado North, Ogun state, recorded 78 in the Use of English, 94 in Mathematics, 88 in Physics and 89 in Chemistry.”

Olumayowa’s score is believed to be the highest in the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) at the moment.

@saintava has shared on his Twitter the story of his friend allegedly stabbed, beaten and raped by his ex-girlfriend.

The guy and his ex-girlfriend both attend Cornell University, and the guy has on different occasions reported the abuse to the school.

The school has however done nothing.

The alleged victim, narrating his abuse, wrote about suffering beating, a knife cut, and sexual assault at the hands of his ex-girlfriend.

The girl is still stalking him, he wrote, and caused a gas leak in his room.

She has also filed fake harassment charges against him which was dismissed after the police found no evidence to support her claims.

The federal government on Wednesday, March 14, said that the Zungeru Hydro Power Plant currently under construction by the Chinese company EEC/SinoHydro, was 45 per cent complete.

The 700MW project, which is located in Zungeru, Niger state, is expected to be completed at the end of 2019. Speaking to journalists during a site visit to the project, deputy director, energy resources, ministry of power, works and housing, Engineer Olatubosun Owoeye, said six turbines would be installed, Leadership reports.

www.Newshelm.ng gathered Owoeye stated that when the project is completed, it would not only increase power generation but equally improve the economic activities of host communities.

According to him, agricultural activities of the region would be enhanced as the dam would provide irrigation for all year farming. The Zungeru Hydro Power Plant is a joint project of the federal government and the Chinese government at a financial contribution ratio of 25/75 per cent respectively.

The project's local content representative, Mustapha Yerima, said that the relationship with the community has improved as 36 settlements had been planned for the inhabitants of the affected community. He stated that the settlements would have schools, healthcare centers, markets, and water facility.

Meanwhile, Nigeria restarted construction works at the Zungeru power plant in Niger state, that was first conceived in 1982, but was abandoned due to lack of funds and dispute among the parties involved.

Babatunde Fashola, the minister of power, works and housing, announced the resumption,while delivering a speech titled "Nigeria’s Electricity Challenge: A roadmap for change" at a lecture in Lagos on Thursday, May 6, 2016.

Fashola stated that the dispute was eventually resolved, adding that the parties were out of court and more than 800 workers were back on site. He said that the plant was expected to bring additional 700MW electricity to Nigeria’s current 4600MW.
