Politics / 90-Year-Old Woman Risks Her Life To Save N300 Potatoes In Maiduguri by harbdulrasaq88(m): 3:54pm On Mar 22, 2017
A 90-year-old Internally Displaced Person, Zahrah Musa, on Wednesday rushed to save her N300 potatoes, minutes after she escaped a bomb attack in Maiduguri.

While fellow IDPs kept a safe distance from the scene of the bombing, Zahrah searched her burnt tent in an effort to recover the potatoes.

The woman kept saying “I am very hungry” as she searched for her potatoes and ignored emergency rescue workers from the National Emergency Management Agency who tried to stop her.

Zahrah, who was wounded in the explosion, insisted that getting back her food was of paramount importance to her.

When it became obvious she would not budge, a NEMA official had to carry her in his hands to a mobile ambulance to treat her bleeding legs.

In spite of her condition, the woman continued to protest, saying she must be allowed to get back her potatoes, which she bought the previous day at N300.

The scene of the early morning attack at Muna garage was an unofficial IDP camp, where people live on their own without access to the food rations provided by the government and other support groups.

However, the Chairman of the State Emergency Management, Mr Satomi Ahmed, said that the state government would provide relief materials to those living in such camps.

Politics / 'hameed Ali Is Over-aged, Unfit', Senate Demands Resignation Of Customs Boss by harbdulrasaq88(m): 2:05pm On Mar 22, 2017
Nigerian Senate has demanded resignation of Customs Comptroller Generalm Hameed Ali over arrogance breach against Constitution of the land.

Senator Dino Melaye, On wednesday's plenary during the briefing of the Comptroller General (CG) of Nigerian Customs Service Col. Hameed Ali (retired), has said that a court process cannot stop any form of Government from carrying out Constitutional duties.

The CG who was sent away last week for appearing in mufti, did not appear before the Senate today for legal reason.

A maritime lawyer, Muhammed Ibrahim, filed a lawsuit on Monday at the Federal High Court Abuja against the senate’s decision.

Dino during his presentation said that the position of the CG is a rank and anyone who occupies that rank is a civil servant as such Hameed "is not fit to be the CG of Customs" because according to the civil service rule he has passed the civil service retirement age.

He called on the president Muhammdu Buhari to adhere to the rule of Law.

Celebrities / Why I Was Kidnapped Twice – Mr Ibu by harbdulrasaq88(m): 1:35pm On Mar 22, 2017
Popular Nollywood actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, said he has been kidnapped more than once, and explained how he became a regular customer of kidnappers.

The comic actor said he was kidnapped twice because his abductors thought he was rich, adding that he would no longer show off on social media platforms to avoid being kidnapped again.

Speaking on The Gist show aired by Hiptv, Mr. Ibu disclosed that he chose to exhibit a modest lifestyle on and off the TV because of his past ordeals at the hands of kidnappers.

“They say our job is about packaging but that does not apply to some of us again. Packaging no longer matters in the entertainment industry because of the fear of kidnappers, who could be made to believe that we are rich as being paraded on the screen,” he said.

Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, on Sunday said Nigerian elites are not happy with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Shehu made the disclosure during an interview on Pyramid Radio in Kano State. He said the government was doing a lot to improve the lot of the ordinary people who the elite did not care for.

“Because the elite do not care for the ordinary people, they are saying that government is doing nothing. But we are doing a lot for the ordinary people.

“They don’t want us to talk about the 14 solar power projects that have been licensed to boost electricity supply in the country; the Mambila power project which will soon leave the drawing board and the many Chinese projects including the standard gauge railway.

“This country has more important things to talk about instead of dwelling on trivia.”

Politics / Saraki - Senate Didn't Reject Magu Because Of DSS Report by harbdulrasaq88(m): 11:58am On Mar 19, 2017
Senate President Bukola Saraki is claiming that Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC was not disqualified because of the DSS report.

Saraki who is currently in Morocco for an African summit on climate change and food security told TVC that Magu’s rejection was for an entirely different reason.

Saraki said, “You are jumping into conclusion that he (Magu) was rejected because of the accusation. I don’t think there was anywhere we said he was rejected based on accusations.

“We have nominees that come all the time with different issues. Two weeks ago, we screened the Chief Justice of Nigeria and he scaled through.

“Now the EFCC chairman came and he did not pass the screening. Someone else will come and may pass. This is our constitutional role and I don’t think we should personalise or politicise this.”

Lagos—Founder of the pan-Yoruba group, Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC and National Chairman of the Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN, Dr. Frederick Fasehun yesterday called for the beefing up of security around the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, saying that his security should not be compromised.

Fasehun, who expressed fear over the manner Osinbajo’s security was handled during his visit to Benin, Edo State recently said the vice president’s security handlers should be more alert and alive to their responsibilities

. Yemi Osinbajo “Security lapses occurred during his visit to Benin, Edo State, when a young boy beat the cordon around His Excellency to steal a handshake from him. Viewed critically, the incident highlights a security breach a bomber could easily exploit.”

He made the observations at a press briefing he addressed on the state of the nation in Lagos.

“His handlers must take his personal security more seriously. Nothing must happen to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo. God forbid that he should be the object of any attack, it will spell doom for this country because then you can trust the Yorubas and the South West to make both the blood of the dogs and the baboons really, really bloody,” he said.

Politics / Lai Mohammed Lists 5 Recent Fake News In Nigeria by harbdulrasaq88(m): 7:46pm On Feb 21, 2017
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has described the phenomenon of fake news as one of the greatest threat to the nation.

Speaking in Abuja at the seventh edition of the National Security Seminar, the minister listed four fake news which had been in circulation recently.

He said:
“Regrettably, fake news is circulated worldwide through the means of the social media and it travels faster.

“Only recently, we have to refute the fake news that Nigeria today is the most difficult place for Christians to live (1).

“There was also the fake report that the armed forces of Nigeria armed the Fulani herdsmen and instigate them to carry out attacks (2).

“All these news are unfounded, fake and has the capacity to set one religion or group against the other,’’ he said.

The minister said the most recent of such disinformation was the news of the alleged killing of some members of a pro-Biafra group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (3).

He also recalled the recent visit by two leaders of All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu and Bisi Akande to President Muhammadu Buhari in London which the champions of disinformation claimed it never happened (4).

He said similarly, it took the intervention of the US government to set the record straight through a release that its President, Donald Trump truly had a telephone conversation with President Buhari (5).
