Social Media is an integral part of our daily living these days and it comes with some disadvantages ranging from distractions, addictions and security/privacy issues.

Our focus on this article in based on Security and Privacy as a lot of people get hacked easily or blackmailed from their Social Media Accounts.

Here are some easy steps to securing all your Social Media accounts starting with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and the likes.

1. Choose a strong password. The first step to a secure social media account is a strong password – “password123” isn’t going to cut it and use alphanumeric characters in it too ie. @#(&%

2. Change your passwords often. It helps a lot to change password every now and then, say once a month or so.

3. Use two-factor authentication. This enables and sms alert or notification each time you login to your social media accounts. It may delay you for some seconds but this option will surely keep you abreast with who is trying to login to your account.

4. Inspect page roles and who has access to accounts. If you have pages you own or happen to be the Admin, limit access to other users so they do not have the same privileges as you do. A user with same privileged if knowledgeable, can access your account.

5. Keep your information offline. Store your passwords and sensitive information offline in a notepad or textpad but do not spell it out completely just in case you ever get hacked. For instance, your Password is Nigeria859@# – simply use 9ja859@#. Only you can decode it easily.

6. Use strong anti-virus programs especially paid ones if you are a computer savvy. It cost little but also protects you from viruses and trojan horses like ratz, zeus and citadel to some extent.

7. Use Linux OS today and save most of the hassles like viruses, hacks and Slow operating systems performance. There are so many Linux OS to choose from Like Fedora, Red Hat, Ubuntu and so on.

8. Never store your Passwords on a web browser even when given options to do so. This is not a nice thing to do as most browsers have cookies enabled and these data can be filtered by intruders to detect your user name and password even if you are on a personal computer or mobile phone.

9. Do not install or click on suspicious apps, mails or content be it on your Mobile Phone or Windows PC. Some Apps are prone to attacks or malware used to gain access to your device.

10. Always update your Apps and Operating system as often as you can too because old apps can be buggy or well tested for attacks by intruders over-time.

These steps will surely help secure all your social media accounts if taken seriously.

It is not easy to get the number of views or watching hours to get your videos monetized.

Nigeria is a very funny market. People watch very specific things here in Nigeria. Mostly celebs, religion and music. The major thing Nigerians watch on YouTube is Nigerian films.

In the USA, UK and many other western countries, there are niche markets for vlogging. But in Nigeria, there isn't.


In 4 paragraphs, I have put important facts that this basic guide will not tell you about youtube.

If you know, you know. I made this post to help newbies. Change your pattern if its not working out fine. There're different niches if you can harness yours well.

This is a simple guide for prospective YouTube Channel owners or Vloggers in Nigeria. Blogging is never easy and demands time and resources. Same goes for YouTube or Vlogging so here's my one cent to help new comers start making money. Threshold or criteria for YouTubers to get monetized by Google is at-least 1000 subscribers, 4000 watch hours and original content as a lot of videos are duplicated.

These are step-by-step guides to setting up a YouTube Channel and mmaking money from it.

Step 1
Your channel is your personal presence on YouTube. Each YouTube account has one channel attached to it. A YouTube account is the same as a Google account, and creating a YouTube account will grant you access to other Google products, such as Gmail and Drive.

Create your account or use your existing one. Add keywords to help people find your channel.

You can add keywords by navigating to the Advanced section of your Channel Settings. Make sure that your keywords are relevant to your content.

Your username can also work for or against you. If it’s short, easy to remember, and original, people will be more apt to remember you.

However, if you are using an existing account, you can always change your username by editing it on your Google+ account.

Creating a YouTube channel using your Google account If you have a Google account, you can watch, share YouTube content.

But you need to create a YouTube channel to upload videos, comment, or make playlists.

You can use a computer or the YouTube mobile site / App to create a new channel.

Go to YouTube and sign in: Head over to YouTube.com and click ‘sign in’ in the top right corner of the page. Sign in using your Google account username and password.
Go to YouTube settings: In the top right corner of the screen, click on your profile icon and then the Settings’ icon.
Create your channel: Under your settings, you’ll see the option to “Create a channel,” click on this link. Next, you’ll have the option to create a personal channel or create a channel using a business or other name. For this example, let us choose the business option Now, it’s time to name your channel and select a category.

Step 2: Add content

Try to upload content that is high quality, and isn’t super long. (This option can vary depending on what type of content you decide to upload).

Also, try to upload regularly and stay consistent with your uploads.

Even if your content isn’t great at first, keep at it. Practice makes perfect. Try to make each video better than the last. You will often learn as you go.

Improve your content by either using a better camera or trying better editing software or techniques.

Also, try to improve the way things are filmed. Use a tripod, have a friend help you or light your scenes better. It all helps for a better end product which in turn helps you get a better audience.

By uploading regularly you can help hold an audience.

People are more likely to subscribe if you add content on regular schedule, and maintain that schedule as much as possible.

Make sure to tag your videos with keywords that describe the content, as well as an eye-catching description. These will help drive people to your video from YouTube searches.

Step 3: Build an audience

What ever you do, make sure you advertise with Google Adwords. A blog or YouTube Channel is useless without Subscribers or followers. You need views, referrals and an audience to succeed. Budget at least $100 for your Channel.

Building an audience is key to increasing your monetization. You need people to watch your ads in order to make any money off of them. There is no one secret to getting more subscribers, just make the best content that you can and they will come to you.

Keep uploading content and try to get people hooked. Send your video out on Twitter and Facebook. Share it with people. Distribute it elsewhere on the internet. Subscribers are essential to becoming a partner.

Interact with your viewers by responding to comments and making occasional videos directly related to viewer comments and questions. Connecting with your community will bring more members into that community.

Step 5
Get reviewed after reaching 4,000 watch hours in the previous 12 months and 1,000 subscribers

Upon reaching this threshold, your channel is automatically reviewed to make sure it complies with the YouTube Partner Program terms and their Community Guidelines. Youtube will email you a decision, usually within a week.

Step 6
You can set up Google AdSense for free at the AdSense website. YouTube uses Adsense to moneytize and pay their partners or Vloggers so you have to setup one.

Click the Sign Up Now button to begin creating your account. You must be 18 years or older to create your own account. If you are younger than that, you will need an adult to help you.

You need either PayPal or a bank account and a valid mailing address as well as other information so AdSense can verify who you are and who to send the money to. You only gain money per ad click and a smaller amount per view but it adds up over time. This is why having an audience is key.

Step 7
Once you have some videos online, monetized, and being viewed, you can check out the analytics on them to see how they are performing. Click the Analytics option in your Channel menu.

Here you can view estimated earnings, ad performance, video views, demographics and more.

Use these tools to see how your content is resonating with your audience. You can change your content or your marketing if you’re finding that you aren’t attracting the users that you want to.

Step 8: Market your videos elsewhere

Post on Popular Websites like Nairaland and your very own blog so as to boost views. Social Media like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram can be of good resource too but you also need a good number of followers. I suggest at least 10,000 followers on each platform.

YouTube Partners are YouTube members who have monetized videos with a large number of viewers. Partners gain access to more content creation tools and can win prizes for the number of viewers they have. Partners also get access to much more community support and tips.

Step 9
You can apply for YouTube partnership at any time through the YouTube Partner page.

In order to gain access to the most powerful Partner programs, here is a guide:

If your channel has previously been in YPP: When you reach the program threshold, your channel will be automatically re-evaluated under the new criteria. You can check your monetization status at Creator Studio > Channel > Monetization.
If your channel has never been in YPP: Follow the 4 steps to join the YouTube Partner Program from your account in Creator Studio. Once your channel reaches the program threshold, you’ll be reviewed to join.

Step 10:
Increase your YouTube revenue with affiliate marketing

“Affiliate marketing” means selling products in exchange for a commission.

Hundreds of thousands of companies offer attractive deals to affiliate marketers who promote their products/services.
What is YouTube Affiliate Marketing?

YouTube affiliate marketing is the process of creating videos and placing affiliate links in the actual videos (via annotations) or in video descriptions, which includes links to products you review and use in your videos that will track a purchase.

If someone makes a purchase using your affiliate link, you receive a small commission for the sale.

You can Sell/Promote others’ products as an affiliate marketer, where huge companies, Jumia, Konga, Amazon and eBay, to smaller companies offer good deals to promoters.

With the on-going trade war between U.S and China, Hauwei is considering selling off a few assets to stay afloat in business.

China’s Huawei has had to battle suspicions and worries about the security of its networking equipment for many years, which most recently culminated in it being placed on a US blacklist by the Trump administration. Now, Huawei is officially bowing out of one line of business, by agreeing to sell off its undersea cable operations, and reportedly shrinking another, by reducing smartphone production orders with supplier Foxconn.

Huawei Marine Systems, in which Huawei holds a 51 percent stake, lays undersea fiber optic cables between continents in much the same way that Microsoft, Facebook, and Google have been doing. It was established in 2009 and has laid more than 50,000km of cable across 90 projects, according to its website. In recent times, however, the toxicity of Huawei’s reputation as an alleged Chinese spying facilitator has made it increasingly difficult for Huawei Marine Systems to win contracts, as the FT reports. That reports cites Fergus Hanson from the International Cyber Policy Centre at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, who says “It’s becoming a more difficult environment when trying to negotiate deals to build cables because [Huawei] is so much in the spotlight.”

Hengtong Optic-Electric, another Chinese company, is buying Huawei’s share of the submarine cable operation, and it made the planned sale official in a filing to the Shanghai Stock Exchange. The price of the transaction has not been publicized.

In other Huawei news, a report from the South China Morning Post indicates that Foxconn, leading production and assembly partner to many smartphone makers, “has stopped several production lines for Huawei phones in recent days as the Shenzhen company reduced orders for new phones.” This appears to be a direct response to Huawei’s placement on the Trump blacklist, which deprived the company of its Android license, effectively neutering Huawei’s European Android smartphone business until further notice.

The SCMP goes on to report that Foxconn had apparently been hiring new staff earlier in the year to help it cope with Huawei’s growing demand, and Huawei was indeed on a path to becoming the world’s biggest smartphone vendor by the end of 2019. Reaching that goal has now been substantially delayed by the US ban setback and may even become impossible, depending on how long Huawei’s enforced estrangement from Google and other US partners continues.
