The OP specifically mentioned XLE.

Only North American Camry models use the LE, XLE trim name system.

Asian Camry models which are usually based on the Camry Aurion, use a very different trim name system: GL, GLX, Sportivo, Altise, etc.

There are no original Asian market Camry XLEs.

Even using model years, the last model year for the XV40 was the 2011 Camry.

The 2012 Camry was the first model year of the XV50.

Camry XV40 was from 2006 to 2011

Camry XV50 was from 2011 to 2019

Both the 2012 and 2014 Camry are XV50 models.

Many times when I run checks on duty and I tell them that their purchases were undervalued....they just tend to turn deaf ears to what I say..... One was even arguing with last week that the dealer said that once the customs account has been credited, they don't need release and they bought the car based on the dealer's advice..... I guess the car was sold cheap and they didn't want to miss the deal...... Anyway,before you buy a car,always make sure you know the tarrif that is applicable for the particular year that the duty was processed......

The history report is one method to know the true Nigerian or import history.

For example, a lot of AutoCheck or CarFax reports end with:

Vehicle exported from A and imported to B, alongside a date of export.

Where A may be
Newark New Jersey, Baltimore Maryland, Halifax Canada, etc

And B may be
Benin(Cotonou) or Nigeria(Lagos)

This is quite helpful, an example is this report for a 2002 Toyota Camry, just one instance of several we have encountered recently. The client contacted us for the history when he was considering purchase.

The customs papers he forwarded showed that the vehicle was supposedly shipped to Tin Can Lagos (Nigeria), in December 2016 in a container with other parts.

From the history report we discovered that the customs papers were fake.

The car was shipped to Benin (Cotonou) in July 2017, by that time Cotonou imports had been banned, so the papers were forged and backdated to December 2016.

In these situations with clear ongoing fraud and illegalities, we strongly encourage clients to abandon such vehicles. It's not an exhaustive approach, but from our perspective and speciality it is one way to tackle the issue.

I am currently in Lagos, and I have had to reassess my view on the cars on Nigerian roads.

I have stated multiple times that most of the cars exported from US on Nigerian road are salvage. engine sound and suspension is feels different, and all cars have a CEL.

Is is difficult to really diagnose a vehicle from symptoms given by users because a lot of normals is so far away from normal.
Most users will never be able to understand this until they drive on a western roads.

The Camry is still considered the best car by most users , and I do have to agree with this opinion despite the fact that others model/ brands were not given the same level of exposure the Camry got.

op it's good your issue has been solved, my recent experiences with an acclaimed nairaland auto expert has made me realize that sometimes the right kind of experience can surpass all the technology in the world. you'll always hear, scan scan scan, and it's a good practice, but I witnessed first hand that scanning and sticking solely to scan interpretations might not necessarily always be the best. an issue that took me 3 days with the expert, another person fixed in 2 hours with no scanning and all that.

Please try not to assume. This car is in top condition, with zero significant faults, the owner simply wants to use the money for other concerns. I would not sell a car with faults and not mention them. If you do things like that, please don't assume all do so.
