Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state commented on the tone of President Muhammadu Buhari during the December 30 presidential media chat in the section that concerned some of the ‘controversial’ prisoners Nigeria has at the moment. He also called on international organisations to focus their attention on human rights abuses and contempt for the rule of law in the country come 2016. “I warned several times that those that were promoting this lion would end up in its belly. Having heard from the President himself declaring Dasuki and Nnamdi Kanu guilty even before trial, Nigerians should be prepared for a return of the 1984 experience in which Buhari’s military tribunal sentenced people to jail terms ranging from 21 to 300 years, such that the Nigerian Bar Association had to boycott the tribunal,” Fayose was quoted by TheGuardian. The governor mentioned he was not really surprised that Buhari justified the disobedience of court orders by the Department of State Security (DSS). In the statement, Lere Olayinka, Fayose’s special assistant on public communications and new media, he also noted that this was not the first time the president was displaying the ‘hallmark of a dictator’. This Wednesday President Buhari could not dodge answering the questions about the further fate of Nnamdi Kanu and Sambo Dasuki. Both of them have been granted bail, the order that has been ignored by the DSS. The president explained that Nigerians simply did not know all the horrible details on the crimes committed by the two. Therefore, Kanu and Dasuki simply do not deserve being released on bail. Buhari do not want to see them ‘relaxing in London’. https://www.naij.com/683423-nigeria-slowly-returning-1984-prepare-worse-governor-fayose.html/?vincent&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_group=free |

Happy New Year To All Nairalanders in Advance... |
ABUJA—President Muhammadu Buhari, Thursday, explained why he
cannot release leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB,
Nnamdi Kanu.
The President disclosed that Kanu has two passports, one
Nigerian, one British and came to the country without using any
passport.
President Buhari also made a robust defence of the integrity of all
36 ministers in his cabinet challenging anyone with a contrary view
to present evidence against such a minister.
Speaking in his first media chat, the president said the first gains
of the war against corruption would become evident by the end
of March, next year, even as he accused erstwhile National Security
Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.) of having allegedly committed
atrocities against Nigeria through reckless disbursement of billions
of government funds.
The president made his first dismissal of the agitation for Biafra
stating that Igbo were in strategic position in the cabinet including
holding the petroleum and labour portfolios besides the
stewardship of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
President Buhari also assured of the administration’s readiness to
implement the N5,000 monthly transfer to vulnerable Nigerians
even as he said the campaign promise did not emanate from him
but from his then running mate, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo. He
also frowned at the allocation of N47.7 billion for the purchase of
vehicles by the National Assembly even after the lawmakers had
collected car loans from the government.
President Muhammadu Buhari during his first presidential media
chat,Thursday, in Abuja.
The president, who expressed his readiness to negotiate with any
credible leadership of the Boko Haram sect for the release of the
kidnapped Chibok girls also disclosed his readiness to consider a
ban on the use of hijab should the trend of bombing through
young veiled girls continue.
Noting the dire economic conditions facing the country, President
Buhari was, nevertheless, against the immediate devaluation of the
naira even as he revealed that N1.5 trillion had been recovered
into the federation account through the implementation of the
Treasury Single Account.
The president also spoke on the fate of the Islamic cleric, Sheikh
Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, saying that he had allowed the Kaduna State
government and the military authorities to take the lead in the
investigations. He affirmed that the cleric had over time
overstepped his bounds to the distress of the communities he
lived.
On the panel that interviewed the president yesterday were
Kayode Akintemi, Channels TV; Dr. Ngozi Anyaegbulam, Media
World International; Munir Dan Ali, Daily Trust and Ibanga Isine,
Premium Times.
On the ministers
“I don’t think I tolerate corruption, I don’t think I picked anybody
that I know will embarrass my government. But if you have any
evidence about any of my ministers, I accept responsibility for the
36 ministers that I have.
“I don’t think I took anybody among the ministers who has got a
case in court. Tell me one out of the 36. I don’t think I will
deliberately make that mistake.”
Asked if he would sack any of the ministers if he or she is charged
to court for corruption, he said:
“No, I will insist that the case go through the courts.”
On the location and condition of the Chibok girls, he said he
would be prepared to negotiate with credible elements in the
Boko Haram leadership if there is precise intelligence that could
help return the girls to their parents. He, however, affirmed that
presently he did not superior intelligence on the fate of the girls.
“We are still keeping our options open. If a credible leadership of
Boko Haram can be established and they tell us where those girls
are, we are prepared to negotiate with them without any pre-
condition. This we have made absolutely clear. But while they are
keeping the Chibok girls, they must not get away with the idea
that we will not attempt to secure the rest of Nigeria.
“We have no firm intelligence on where they are physically and
what condition they are in. But what we believe from our
intelligence, they keep taking the girls around, they are not
keeping all the girls in one place, we don’t know how many
divisions they made of them and where they are.
On the crisis in Kaduna involving followers of the Shite leader,
Sheikh El-Zakzaky, he said:
“I expect the Kaduna State Government to set up a judicial inquiry
because it happened in Kaduna, in one of the cities and it has been
there for the last twenty years from what I have been reading
from papers. They will occupy a federal highway, sometimes from
Kano to Kaduna. This is what I heard.
“We have a system of investigation, the military that was involved
too have a tradition of investigation and I am the head of the
federal government, I have to wait for the official report before I
can come out as head of the federal government and make a
statement. So I am allowing the Army and the Kaduna State
government to submit their report of inquiry. Meanwhile it does
not mean that the police, the SSS and other directorate involved
are not doing their own part of constitutional role.
Frowning at the activities of the group, he said:
“Unfortunately it is very serious. How can any group proclaim
statehood in a state? I don’t want to speak about it in details
now, I better leave it still after the report of the inquiry but there
are a number of clips I saw, where some excited teenagers were
visually hitting the chest of a general, mounting road blocks and
threatening them with missiles.
On the contentious issue of subsidy, the president said that by the
end of the next quarter that there would be no more talk about
subsidy in the price of petroleum.
Money recovered
“Money has been recovered but whatever we recover, has to end
up in court because I feel personally that Nigerians are entitled to
know the truth and the truth will be what the court has discovered
by the submission made to them in terms of documentation and
the documentation includes the bank statement of where our
money was lodged, when it was lodged and how much. Whether
it is petrol from NNPC or Customs and Excise or money directly
from the Central Bank of Nigeria.”
Told that he was limited in his disclosure of his assets, the
president said that he had declared his assets at least four times in
the past.
The president expressed reservation on proposals by the National
Assembly to commit N47.7 billion to purchase new vehicles after
members had collected car loans from the government.
N5,000 monthly stipend for the less privileged
“When my VP was quoted, how can I come here and disown it?
First, I believe in getting facts, how many are involved? How are
we going to do it? Is it state by state or geo-political zone by
geo-political zone? In trying to get the bottom of the problem, a
lot of work has to be done and if it is undertaken, we have to
look at it very well.”
On Dasuki, Kanu and others
Asked on the alleged flouting of court orders by the state on the
issue of Dasuki and detained Biafran agitator, Nnamdi Kanu, he
said:
“Technically, if you see the kind of atrocities those people
committed, if they jump bail? I am sorry to say this publicly…the
former president just wrote to the governor of the CBN and said
give N40 billion to someone while you have two million Internally
Displaced Persons, what kind of country do you want to run?
“The one you called Kanu, do you know he has two passports?
One Nigerian, one British and he came to this country without
using any passport? Do you know that he brought sophisticated
equipment into this country and started broadcasting for Radio
Biafra? There is a treasonable charge against him and I hope the
court will listen to the case.
Biafra and marginalisation of Ndigbo
“They say they are marginalised but they have not defined the
extent of marginalisation. Who is marginalising them? Where? Do
you know? Choosing a minister is not a matter of ethnicity, it is a
matter of the constitution. I am limited by what the constitution
says that there must be a member of the executive council from
each state. There is a lot of partisan politics in it. Who is the
Minister of State for Petroleum? Is he not an Igbo? Who is the
governor of the CBN? Is he not an Igbo? Who is the Minister of
Labour? Who is the Minister of Science and Technology? What do
they want? I stood elections and I won, I am limited by the
constitution, I have a member of every state in the Federal
Executive Council and I have to listen to them when I sit as
chairman. That is the limit the constitution gave me”. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/12/biafra-why-i-cant-release-kanu-buhari/ |

I am in my thirties, married with two adorable children. I come from what you will term a ‘silver spoon’ family and have parents who were, and still are generous to their children. The problem is our mother. We’ve associated her with a string of boy-friends over the years; the fact that she is now a grandmother hasn’t cramped her style at all. She has recently been associated with my husband’s uncle and this is causing friction between me and my husband. His uncle’s wife is spoiling for a showdown and is trying to tar me with the same brush as my mother’s. When I eventually tackled mum about this latest affair of hers, she told me it was none of my business what she did and that I should concentrate more on my marriage. There is no point involving dad as he’s just recovered from a mild stroke. What is more he’s always turned a blind eye to mum’s philandering. How do I get her off my husband’s uncle? http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/12/my-mums-affairs-embarrass-me/ |

panic, She is truly a Nigerian

By Ikechukwu Nnochiri & Omeiza AjayiABUJA—The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, yesterday, continued its arrest of high profile politicians and top military officers over the $2bnarms contract allegedly disbursed by the Office of National Security Adviser, ONSA.Suspects arrested, yesterday, included the former Chairman of the Presidential Implementation Committee on Marine Safety, Air Vice Marshal Salihu Atawodi.Atawodi, Bafarawa, Dasuki and DokpesiAtawodi was accused of alleged diversion of N600 million meant for acquisition of military boats for the use of the Nigerian armed forces.Others who are already being detained in connection with the arms deal include former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki; Chairman Emeritus of Daar Communications, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, former governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa and former Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda.Chief Dokpesi reportedly told EFCC interrogators that the N2.1bn he collected from the NSA was meant for election publicity in media houses across the country, a disclosure strongly discountenanced by media operatives yesterday.Atawodi was said to have awarded the contract for the boats and fully paid for them while none was supplied atthe end of the day, thereby making Nigeria lose the funds.According to a competent source in the EFCC, Atawodi, who recently retired from the Air Force, was arrested Wednesday and taken into EFCC custody for questioning. The former fighter pilot, the source claimed, is likely to be charged with conspiracy, abuse of public office and misappropriation of public funds. He awarded the contract to one Alhaji Rabiu’s Hypertech Nigeria Limited. The contractor was fully paid but the boats were never supplied. The source further disclosed that the contract award process violated the Procurement Act.AVM Atawodi who has been on the radar of the anti-graft agency since 2013, was quizzed for several hours on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, after he responded to the invitation extended to him. He arrived EFCC headquarters at about 11am.EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren confirmed Atawodi’s presence at the Commission, adding that he isassisting the investigation. At press time, the retired Air Force officer was still with operatives of the commission. His arrest added to the increasing number of high profile Nigerian politicians and top military officers implicated in the diversion of defence budget, which theBuhari administration has sworn to unearth and punish.Arrests one-sided, says PDPThe Peoples Democratic Party, which was in power when the alleged diversion of huge funds occurred, has, however, kicked against the attempt to bring these mento justice, describing the move as politically motivated and one-sided.I implicated nobody— DasukiMeanwhile, embattled former National Security Adviser,NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki, rtd, yesterday, refuted reportsthat he implicated many persons, including stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the statement hevolunteered before the panel probing his alleged complicity in the $2billion arms purchase deal.Speaking through his lawyer, Mr. Ahmed Raji, SAN, yesterday, Dasuki, said he never made any statement or implicated anyone or group at the Economic & Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, even as he wondered wherethe reports emanated from.Raji said: “I was with Dasuki yesterday (Wednesday) and wish to make categorical statement that my client nevermade any statement of such nature or naming anybody or group in any statement.“Quote me anywhere, Dasuki has not done anything likethat. It is absolutely untrue. It is the figment of the imagination of the authors aimed at creating falsehood for reasons best known to them and Nigerians should disregard them.“They are just out to scandalise the man, bring his imageand character into disrepute so that his friends and well wishers can run away from him. They want him desertedand that will fail”, he added.Court rules on Dasuki’s bail Dec 8Meantime, Justice Ademola Adeniyi of the Federal High Court in Abuja, yesterday, fixed December 8 to deliver ruling on an application by the federal government, seeking to revoke Dasuki’s bail.FG had in the application it filed pursuant to Section 169of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, also sought an order committing the former NSA to prison pending his trial.Already, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, has contracted a private prosecutor, Mr. Oladipupo Opeseyitan, SAN, to handle the case for government.Opeseyitan who announced his appearance at the resumed hearing on the matter yesterday, told trial Justice Adeniyi that he has gone before the court of appeal to challenge the ruling that permitted Dasuki to travel to the United Kingdom for medical treatment. He said that he has also filed a motion for stay of execution of the ruling, even as he urged the high court to put the ruling on hold pending determination of the appeal.Responding, Dasuki’s lawyer, Raji, told the court that hewas only served a copy of the motion yesterday morning, saying he would need time to reply accordingly. It will be recalled that though Dasuki was on September 1, granted bail by the high court on self recognition, however, trial Justice Ademola Adeniyi, on November 3, while granting the defendant leave to travel abroad for medical treatment, varied his bail condition.Justice Adeniyi ordered the erstwhile NSA to produce a surety that must be ready to face prosecution should he(Dasuki), go into hiding after his medical treatment in the United Kingdom. The court further directed the release of his hitherto seized traveling documents, saying Dasuki should return same to the Deputy Chief Registrar, Litigation ofthe high court within 72 hours of his return from the three-week medical trip.It was this order that government asked the court to vacate by revoking the bail granted to the defendant. On why the bail should be revoked, FG, told the court that Dasuki is undergoing investigation by the committee auditing procurement of arms/equipment in the Armed Forces and Defence Sector from 2007 to date.It said that an interim report of the committee showed that over $2 billion was allegedly embezzled and that Dasuki’s presence is required to assist in further investigations.“That there is a Federal Government directive for the arrest of all those indicted by the report, including the defendant (Dasuki) and that the ongoing investigation which borders on money laundering against the defendant has not been concluded and there is fear thatinvestigation might be tampered with on account of foreign visit by the respondent before the completion of investigation. It maintained that the ailment for which permission wasgiven to Dasuki to travel to the United Kingdom for treatment can be properly treated in the National Hospital, Abuja and other teaching hospitals in Nigeria.Besides, FG, told the court that there is an intelligence report that Dasuki has concluded plans to take advantage of the court order releasing his international passport to escape justice and tamper with ongoing investigations.Despite the permission of the court, FG, using operatives of the Department of State Service, DSS, prevented Dasuki from travelling outside the country. He was subsequently arrested and handed over to the EFCC for interrogation over the alleged $2bn arms deal fraud.I didn’t receive a dime from Dasuki— BafarawaIn a related development, former Governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa who is also being being held by the anti-graft commission in connection with the arms deal money has denied receiving any money from Dasuki. He was said to have collected about N4.6 billion from the Office of the National Security Adviser, for “spiritual purposes”.An aide of the former governor who served under him as a Special Adviser on Youth and Students Matters, Alhaji Akibu Dalhatu said yesterday that his boss had no such financial dealing with the former NSA nor did he collect any money from him for any purpose.“The former governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa did not receive any money from Col. |

The Lagos State Government has increased security measures in
the state with the acquisition of three helicopters, among other
gadgets, to fight rising insecurity in the state.
A statement on Wednesday by the state Commissioner for
Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, stated that the
equipment would be formally presented to the Rapid Response
Squad on Friday at an occasion to be chaired by President
Muhammadu Buahri.
It said, “President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit will witness the
rebranding of the RRS as the state’s no-nonsense police response
squad against crime and criminality. The President will also join
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in handing over the brand new
patrol equipment to the police authorities in the state.
“The equipment to be handed over include: three helicopters, two
patrol boats, 100 motorcycles, 13 BM power bikes, 60 Ford salon
cars, 55 Ford Rangers, 40 Toyota salon cars, 10 Toyota Land
Cruiser SUVs, 31 Armored Personnel Carriers, as well as police
uniforms and other kits.
“With these security equipment, the governor has demonstrated
his firm commitment and ability to safeguard the lives and
property of every Lagosian.
“The government is convinced that this gesture will further boost
the morale and capacity of the police, RRS and other security
agencies in the state. We believe that this will send a clear signal
that criminals and armed robbers no longer have a hiding place in
the state,” he said.
The statement urged residents to continue to support the
government by abiding by the Lagos State Road Traffic Law,
which forbade street trading, plying of BRT lane by private and
commercial vehicles, and also restricted commercial motorcycles on
the highways. WWW.punchng.com/buhari-to-visit-lagos-friday/ |

An Assistant Superintendent of Police, a female inspector and a
corporal are currently being detained by the Lagos State Police
Command for allegedly collecting the insurance claims of dead and
non-existent policemen.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the arrested officers, who are attached
to the insurance section of the command, had allegedly swindled
the Force by collecting the claims of policemen which reportedly
ran into millions of naira.
Our correspondent gathered that the suspects, whose names had
yet to be ascertained, were arrested by the X-Squad Section of
the command on Monday, November 10, after a petition reached
the police authorities that families of some dead policemen had
yet to get the claims.
It was learnt that the three policemen were thereafter allegedly
found to have diverted the money and were subsequently
arrested.
A police source told our correspondent on Tuesday that the
officers were about to undergo an orderly room trial. He added
that each of the deceased officers had a claim of about N500,000
which the suspects had allegedly pocketed.
He said, “The policemen are attached to the insurance section, and
they are in charge of handling the claims and gratuities of
deceased officers. They were arrested about two weeks ago.
What happened was that they defrauded the police by collecting
money on behalf of non-existent and dead policemen.
“Their mode of operation is to cook up names of policemen, claim
that the policemen are dead, and then collect their claims. The
money runs into millions. They are currently in the cell, and they
are going to face an orderly room trial.
“It was when a petition got to the command that investigation
began into the matter. We went to some divisions where the
three officers claimed policemen had died and had collected
gratuities for them, but we discovered that there were no such
names.
“We also discovered that the families of some dead policemen,
whose claims had been paid by the police, had not got their
claims. That was how the three were arrested. The total sum of
the fraud is not known, but if each insured policeman gets about
N500,000, then the amount runs into millions.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, confirmed the
arrest.
Offor, who declined to name the suspects, added that
investigation was ongoing into the matter.
He said, “Some police officers were arrested on an allegation of
fraud. The fraud borders on tampering with records of deceased
members of the Force. We have some families of deceased
policemen whose families said they died as far back as 2013, and
the families had not got their entitlements. There could still be
others involved. But investigation is ongoing into the matter.”

Some months back, I gave my boyfriend MouthAction when I had a cold sore on my lip. Later, he got a sore on his genitals. Love-gone-sour Now I think he may have passed the cold sore back to me as I’m itchy ‘down there’. This has got me really worried. What do you think I should do? Iyesogie by e-mail. Dear Iyesogie, From what you described, you both almost certainly have the herpes virus. It is very common, and can cause sores on the face and genitals. If a person has a cold sore on their lips, oral sex is a way to pass it on to another person’s genitals. On the other hand, if you already had the herpes virus, your boyfriend couldn’t have passed it back to you. Once it’s in your system, you have it for life. You can get medication for the symptoms from either your doctor or at any health centre near you. In the meantime, use condoms with a new partner to avoid passing on the virus. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/help-im-itchy-down-there-after-sex-with-my-boyfriend/ |
Gov. Idris Wada of Kogi on Tuesday removed 15 chairmen of
local governments from office for defecting to the rival All
Progressives Congress (APC).
*Gov. Wada
This is contained in a statement issued in Lokoja and signed by
the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Governments
and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr James Adedoyin in Lokoja.
The statement cited section 20 sub section ( 1) and section 36
sub section 1 (d) of Kogi State Local Government Law 2000 as
amended to back the action.
It explained that the sacked chairmen can no longer remain in
office having decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party
( PDP) that sponsored them.
Some of the affected council chairmen include that of Lokoja,
Ogori-Magongo, Idah, Adavi, Ankpa, Okehi, Bassa, Yagba East,
Yagba West and Okene among others.
They defected to the APC during the grand finale of its
governorship campaign held in Lokoja on Nov. 18.
The statement warned the sacked council chairmen to stay
away from offices, directing the vice chairmen or the council
leaders to take over the affairs of the affected councils as may
be appropriate.
The governor said the handing and taking over should be
completed by Wednesday Nov. 25, the statement said.
One of the grounds for their defection was the refusal of
Wada to implement a decision of the Court of Appeal in Abuja
on Oct 29 that nullified the removal of the elected chairmen
from office.
They were removed from office based on the order of a Kogi
State High Court sitting in Koton Karfe which ruled that the
election of May 4, 2013 which brought them into office was
faulty. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/wada-sacks-15-council-chairmen-for-defecting-to-apc/ |
IT is no more news that the first executive governor of Kogi
State who was cruising to another victory in the inconclusive
governorship election, Prince Abubakar Audu, has passed on.
He died in the early hours of Sunday. Family sources alleged
that his death was not natural, as he started complaining of
stomach cramp, minutes after eating a meal.
Until his death, Prince Abubakar Audu had distinguished careers,
first as a top banker and later as an accomplished politician. He
was the moving rotor in the opposition engine for more than
two decades.
What are the lawyers saying?
As it is, lawyers are divided on the position of law on the issue
given that the constitution didn’t envisage the Audu scenario.
The constitution was silent on what happens when a candidate
dies or withdraws from the race while voting is in progress.
The lack of pinpoint provisions to take care of the present
logjam might have been responsible for the different opinions
that are converging to form a cloud of uncertainty.
From the logic, letters and spirit of law, the following will
suffice in lightening the legal darkness enveloping the Kogi
governorship election.
Can Faleke take the place of Audu?
In some legal circles, this opinion has been amplified. They are
of the opinion that since Audu and Faleke are running on the
same ticket, Faleke should be put forward to complete the
process.
However, opponents of this view are reasoning that since
Faleke didn’t go through a primary election, he is legally
unqualified to be allocated the ticket of the party.
Some legal opinions are even saying the death of Audu leads to
the repudiation of Faleke’s mandate as running mate.
Had Audu been declared winner and sworn in as governor
before his death, Faleke would have legally been qualified to
step in as substantive governor.
Runner-up in the election Should be declared Winner?
Some PDP apologists are already pushing this position that
Wada, the PDP candidate who was runner up should be
declared winner.
To people in this school of thought, the demise of Prince Audu
means the automatic declaration of the runner-up in the
election, Capt Idris Wada as governor-elect.
This argument stems from the fact that the re-run is immaterial
in view of the margin between the runner-up and the second
runner-up.
This position is however punctured by APC members who say
that the people of Kogi State had already endorsed the party in
a general election before the demise of their candidate.
Re-run option
This option seems to be the convergence zone among legal
luminaries and political stakeholders in the state.
It is also believed to be the political solution to the imbroglio
through the invocation of the doctrine of necessity.
With this coming with the likelihood of picking another
candidate for APC, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu may not be
disposed to this arrangement. The emergence of Yahaya Bello
will lead to the end of the road for Faleke, as the party may
settle for a running mate from the Eastern Flank of the state,
being the most populous Senatorial District and in view of the
fact that the PDP candidate, Wada hails from the zone.
With this arrangement, the runner-up in the APC governorship
primaries would be drafted in as the candidate of the party in
the election to compete with other candidates.
As it stands, more legal challenges lie ahead as the tenure of
the present administration is expected to terminate by January
2016.
Latest turns and twist in APC
The demise of Prince Abubakar Audu has no doubt created a
legal lacuna as no known law is in place to deal with the
situation.
But beyond the legal frictions, APC is believed to be at
crossroads on the issue. The Tinubu Caucus is believed to be
pushing hard for the replacement of Audu with Faleke, his
political godson.
Tinubu was believed to have been instrumental to the choice of
Faleke as Audu’s running mate ab initio. Faleke was a Council
Chairman in Lagos before his elevation to the House of
Representatives where he is representing Ikeja 2 Federal
Constituency.
On the other flank, leaders that are more favourably disposed
to the candidature of Alhaji Yahaya Bello are also making a
legitimate case against Faleke on the ground he didn’t
participate in the governorship primary of the party. To the
Yahaya Bello supporters, it is not feasible for anyone to
emerge governor without going through a valid primary
election.
INEC’S line of action: In the coming hours or days, INEC is
expected to make an informed proclamation on the Kogi
governorship election. The legal department of the commission
is believed to be consulting widely to ensure they arrived at a
less controversial position.
The Supreme Court and the Attorney General of the
Federation are also expected to play a pivotal role in resolving
the palpable confusion in the confluence state.
Will it be Faleke, Wada, Yahaya Bello or a re-run? The world is
watching the unfolding drama in the Confluence State. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/demise-of-audu-options-before-kogi/ |

Ex-President Jonathan casting his vote in the March 28, 2015 Presidential election. He lost to General Muhammadu Buhari, but called him shortly to concede defeat and congratulate him. By Ikenna Asomba Fifty-eight years ago, former President Goodluck Jonathan was born in Otueke, a predominantly fishing community, presently in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. On that fateful Wednesday of November 20, 1957, baby Jonathan was born into the family of Mr. Lawrence Jonathan. His mother is Mrs Eunice. Rising from what he (Jonathan) has always described as a journey from ‘grass to grace,’ the son of canoe makers, rose from a Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State to becoming Nigeria’s President, the highest office in the country. Jonathan, who held sway as the country’s No. 1 citizen for 60 months/24days (5 May 2010 – 29 May 2015) is many things to many people. For instance, recently, Jonathan who led the Commonwealth international observers team to monitor the Tanzanian general election held on October 25, 2015, was described as ‘a hero of free and fair election in Africa,’ having contributed largely to the successful conduct of the election which was declared peaceful, free, fair and credible by international observers. Basking in the euphoria of the high respect they have for Jonathan, particularly for making that unusual and unprecedented sacrifice to concede defeat to his opponent, General Muhammadu Buhari (now President), The Daily News of Tanzania, in an editorial before the election, titled, ‘Salutary lessons for Tanzania from Nigeria’s latest elections,’ paid glowing tributes to Jonathan. The newspaper commended him for taking his defeat in the last presidential election “in all magnanimity,” stressing that, “Jonathan may very well have averted bloodshed that is characteristic of incumbent leaders who cling in power tooth and nail, fang and claw! What lesson is there in this for us in Tanzania, pray?” The paper maintained: “It is generally admitted that the election in Nigeria was unprecedentedly free, fair and transparent, whereby the opposition candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, won the Presidency. What is more remarkable is that the incumbent president who sought re-election, Goodluck Jonathan, … most graciously accepted the results promptly! “Oh, I don’t know beyond the fact that Tanzania could tragically do worse if it fails to dedicatedly take a leaf out of Nigeria’s newest book on elections!” Similarly, the Guardian of Tanzania, in its own editorial entitled, ‘High profile figures among observers will add credibility to poll process, results’, poured encomiums on the former Nigerian president, describing him as a democrat who has pointed the way forward for the rest of Africa. The Guardian further wrote that “Jonathan’s voluntary handover of power to the opposition wrote a new chapter for Nigeria’s democracy, given the fact that it is rare for sitting presidents in Africa to hand over powers to winning opposition parties.” Against this backdrop, Vanguard captures 58 quotable quotes of Ex-President Jonathan as he clocks 58. Abuja – Chief of Army staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai has waved aside reports that about 105 soldiers prosecuting the war against Boko Haram terrorists met their untimely death when they failed to return in a bid to annihilate the terrorists in the North East. The media had been awashed with news that about 100 Nigerian soldiers were missing after Boko Haram attacks in the epicenter of the battle. But General Buratai in a telephone conversation with Vanguard said, “It is not true that our soldiers are missing. The soldiers went on a mission for the Nigerian nation and they have since returned and joined their Battalions”. The confident Chief of Army Staff said that insinuation is a figment of imagination of the authors of the story. Media reports had indicated that the Army may have lost about 150 of its men to an attack by Boko Haram insurgents in Gudunbali, Borno State. It was claimed that the terrorists attacked at Gudunbali in Borno State, on Wednesday and as a result the 157 Battalion of the Nigerian Army could not account for at least, 105 soldiers including their commanding officer. According an online media, the terrorists also captured a T-72 tank as well as several artillery weapons from the unit. “Gudunbali was attacked this morning and some weapons were captured from the battalion. Two officers and 105 soldiers are still missing”. The terrorists captured a T-72 tank from the unit and some artillery weapons were also captured. The commanding Officer (CO) of the battalion is yet to be seen but no one has been confirmed dead yet,” the source added. Another source however said the T-72 tank was recovered after a prolonged fight with Boko Haram insurgents. The gunner and tank commander were injured in the process, he said. Also reportedly captured by the insurgents were eight vehicles, a truck loaded with 60,000 rounds of AA ammunition and three artillery pieces. Similarly, soldiers of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) stationed at Baga, Borno State also recently came under attack. The attack occurred in Geringiwa at about four kilometers to the headquarters of MNJTF, PREMIUM TIMES has also been told. According to a source, the military has been unable to completely clear the insurgents from Baga and nearby towns due to inadequate equipment. Boko Haram carried out a series of mass killings in Baga between January 3 and January 7, 2015, after the army headquarters there was sacked by the insurgents. Although the military later liberated the town, soldiers stationed in the area have come under constant attacks from the insurgents. . The attacks on the military came on the heels of the suicide attacks on Yola and Kano respectively. www.linkis.com/www.vanguardngr.com/Ojsdy |
