@Seanbell, ur too funny. If one hour is too much start 4rm 30mins n work your way up.

Am so proud of myself, i did really well today, I didnt cheat and i ate very healthy. I carry a water bottle with me now to anywhr am going, so am constantly drinking water through out the day. I learnt that 4rm my sister. Water makes you feel slightly full throughout the day and then when you eat you wont eat so much.

Also my Dr gave me the ok, so one hour cardio begins 2mrw..whooohooo!!!!

@Rocksqueen, thanks dear. This diet is very difficult oo, i never thot it would be easy but mehn its harder than i expected.

@Udoka2, hotdog is different from corndog but they have white bread and sausage in common so they are equally unhealthy for you. I think hotdog should have more calories tho cos the bread is bigger in size and its more tasty when you add ketchup and mustard.

Its a new day for me so i have my meals planned out. I think planning out my meals for the entire day might help me stay on track.

Breakfast- Oatmeal and 3 boiled eggs (i only eat the egg white cos the yolk has too much cholesterol)
Midmorning: a fruit (pear or banana)
Afternoon: very small rice and stew with lots of broccoli and carrots
Evening-granola bar (contains lots of fiber and is very healthy)
Nite: Salmon and stir fry.

Ladies, am starting one hour of cardio 2mrw(wednesday) at least 5 times a week. Does anyone care to join me. Cardio is any exercise that makes the heart beat fast(threadmill, eliptical, jogging, skipping, swimming, dancing). I knw one hour sounds like a lot but it goes by pretty quickly, jst listen to music while you do it. My goal is to burn at least 600calories each day.But being that 2mrw is ny first day at the gym in a while, am startin off slow. mayb burn abt 400 calories the rest of the week and the full force 4rm next week.
personally, am doing the eliptical.
Am starting 2mrw cos i have a Drs appt 2day, need to check with my Dr if its ok for me to start exercising since its been merely 2weeks since my miscarriage.
Once he gives me the go ahead, the game is on.

I did this one hour cardio 5 times a week for 3 months last year and i lost a whole lot of weight. Your body will get so used to it that anyday you dont work out you'll feeel like your missing smethng.

I'd like to hear you thots, who is game

Health / Re: Weight Loss/gain For Ladies Trying To Conceive by Hebrewwoman1: 7:47am On Apr 24, 2012
Y'all i didnt do well today at all. Its still monday for me.
I started off very well this morning, i had whole grain cereal which contained lots of fiber with milk and midday i very small spaghetti and sauce with lots of broccoli and carrots and then temptation set in.

What had happened was, my friend had been telling me about how good Corndog taste but i've never had it before so mehn i had to try it oo and boi was it good or wat? That corndog alone had 230 calories but the girl just wouldnt let me rest.
Thas not all oo, i then went to the movies to see Think Like a Man (very funny movie, go see it if u hvnt) and i had popcorn ad Icee. But cos of that i didnt have dinner, i decided i'l go to bed hungry.

I feel so bad, pls feel free to blast me, am so ashamed of myself. I can't believe i did this poorly on my first day of this diet plan. I always knew i have a problem with food, i didnt realize it was this bad....

@ Argent, Green tea has a lot of benefits but i think you have to drink more than one cup a day. The more cups you drink the better. SOme researchers say you have to drink about 6 to 7 cups to get the full benefits. But most say 3 cups a day is fine. Here's an article to read to ee the full benfits.

Although tea drinking has been associated with health benefits for centuries, only in recent years have its medicinal properties been investigated scientifically. The October issue of Harvard Women's Health Watch recognizes the healthy power of tea while helping readers get the most out of their cups.

Tea's health benefits are largely due to its high content of flavonoids — plant-derived compounds that are antioxidants. Green tea is the best food source of a group called catechins. In test tubes, catechins are more powerful than vitamins C and E in halting oxidative damage to cells and appear to have other disease-fighting properties. Studies have found an association between consuming green tea and a reduced risk for several cancers, including, skin, breast, lung, colon, esophageal, and bladder.

Additional benefits for regular consumers of green and black teas include a reduced risk for heart disease. The antioxidants in green, black, and oolong teas can help block the oxidation of LDL (bad) cholesterol, increase HDL (good) cholesterol and improve artery function. A Chinese study published recently in the Archives of Internal Medicine showed a 46%-65% reduction in hypertension risk in regular consumers of oolong or green tea, compared to non-consumers of tea.

The October issue provides a few tips to get the most out of tea-drinking:

Drinking a cup of tea a few times a day to absorb antioxidants and other healthful plant compounds. In green-tea drinking cultures, the usual amount is three cups per day. Allow tea to steep for three to five minutes to bring out its catechins. The best way to get the catechins and other flavonoids in tea is to drink it freshly brewed. Decaffeinated, bottled ready-to-drink tea preparations, and instant teas have less of these compounds. Tea can impede the absorption of iron from fruits and vegetables. Adding lemon or milk or drinking tea between meals will counteract this problem.

@Seanbell and Rocksqueesn, it really just depends on when you go to bed. You should stop eating at least 3-4hours before you go to bed. So if you go to bed late then of course you can eat up untill 4hrs before your bedtime.

Another important tip for trying to lose weight, NO EATING OR DRINKING AFTER 6PM. With the exception of WATER.

And yes, let's make this a lifestyle change, nuttin too drastic that we can't continue in the long run. Its about being consistent, you can't lose weight and then go back to eating unhealthy foods. We need to be realistic.

Health / Re: Weight Loss/gain For Ladies Trying To Conceive by Hebrewwoman1: 7:47pm On Apr 22, 2012
@Rocksqueen your absolutely right. I lose weight only when i travel and away 4rm home cos my Dh is not into all these diet plans, you have to feed him correct food. I dont balme him tho, he has no problem with food cos he's very active. Right now am not home but when i get back i'l try and not eat evrythng i serve him.

Smeone mentioned almost evry food having oil in it but my mum makes her soup without oil, cos really palm oil just gives the soup colour and not taste persay. She uses red bell peppers(in ibo its calld tatashe) to give her soup color. And quite frankly it works and is an amazing way to drastically reduce your oil intake.

@Seanbell, another thing about losing weight is not just the quantity of food your eating each day but how ur spreading it out throughout the day. Portion control is about playing small games with you head. Its not about breakfast, lunch and dinner, its about eating thruout the day but very little. I lose more weight when i eat about 6 times a day. 6 times may sound a lot but if you eat healthy you should be fine.
The first thing i learnt from my personal trainer was to eat with smaller sized plates. Cos when you dish food into a big sized plate, you tend to put more cos the plate wil still be looking empty if you put small food. But if your plate is small, before you know it, the plate is almost full. But remember you must not always clear your plate. I remember growing up my mum always made us finish the food in our plate cos she hated wasting food...lol

Then before you dish the food, divide the plate with your eyes in half, one half hould be filled with friuts and vegetables (more veggies than fruits) and the other half with carbs and protein.
The reason i do not recommend cutting out carbs totally from your diet is cos the body needs carbs,it provides the body with the energy it needs for physical activity and for proper organ function. The only thing to know is that some carbohydrates are better than others.
For example, brown rice if far better than white rice(personally i cant eat brown rice), wheat pasta is better than white pasta. Whole grains are very good too. i try to eat whole grains evry morning. You can get whole grains from cereal (will be indicated on the box), whole wheat bread, i cant remember if oatmeal has whole grains or not (you can look it up) but i knw it has a lot of fiber and is very good for breakfast.

Another way to cut out carbs is to eat you fruits as opposed to drinking it. An orange has 2 times as much fiber and half as much sugar as a 12 ounce glass of orange juice.

The reason why losing weight is so hard is because healthy food does not taste good. If brown rice could taste like white rice, or if wheat bread can taste like white bread.
There is smethng addictive about sugar and oil...thats why we are all here...Lol.

Hey ladies, i actually need to drop sme lbs as well. Its so funny that i know what to do to lose weight but i just dont do it. In my life i've gained weight and i've lost weight, its just determination.

@ RocksQueen, if your serious in this journey you need to cut out Gnuts cos ther are very oily. As a matter of fact the only nut gud for you is Almond am not sure how readinly available it is in Nigeria.

My main problem with food is RICE. I love rice so much that i can eat it evryday, 3 times a day and not get tired.

My data,
5.7
162lbs(am not sure wat that is in kg)

Need to lose about 20lbs

The truth about losing weight is that no matter how much you exercise as long as your eating more calories than you burning, you wont lose weight. Counting calories is pretty difficult but its very effective if you can learn how to do it.
Also in as much as fruits are good for us, they have a lot of sugar and hve calories too so vegetables are better.
Cutting out carbs can backfire unless you plan to cut it out for the rest of you life. Cos anyday you go back to eating carbs, the weight you've lost comes back. The best approach to this weight thng is SELF CONTROL, eat anythng you like but PORTION CONTROL is very important. You can eat as many calories as you want but as long as your active enough for your body to use up the calories, you wont add weight.

For example, a typical adult needs 1,800-2,000 a day but most sports players need way more than that cos of how active they are.
Losing weight can be a little tricky, you can do it with exercise alone and you can do it with diet alone or a combination of both. Its all about how much your eating and how much your using so you can tackle this from any direction that works best for you.

Personally, i dont do well with food so i prefer to kill myself at the gym...lol. My mum lost over a 100lbs by jst waatching what she eats and she never went to the gym for one day.

Feel free to ask me any questions as am not sure if my explanation is very clear.

@RocksQueen, to be honest i have not really considered anythng because i had already been diagnosed with PCOS which on its own gves you a slightly higher risk of miscarriage and then Low progesterone. Am just waiting for the testing to begin, cos i need to get it over with.
But i dont think its Incompetent cervix tho cos of how early the miscarriages occured. Most miscarriages that happen cos of incompetent cervix occur in the 2nd or early 3rd trimester.
At how many weeks was your sister miscarrying? Both of mine were at about 9weeks.

Yea, you can definitely ask your Dr to keep an eye on your cervix when you get pregnant but most Drs do not stitch your cervix until early 2nd trimester i believe.

@Udoka, i just saw the name of the book "God's waiting room" have no idea why i thot u wrote "God is waiting" Lol.

@ Afamdman, can't wait to read the rest of the story.
Health / Re: Trying To Conceive A Child? TTC by Hebrewwoman1: 4:06pm On Apr 21, 2012
@Shiloh, you are most welcome, God bless you too.

@Udoka, I'l search for the book you mentioned "God ia Waiting" i havent heard of it before.
Well technically, i havent started treatment for the "low Progesterone". This is 2nd miscarriage in a row and My Dr thinks there might even be something else other than the Low Progesterone causing it, My next appointment with my Dr is on Tuesday and that's when i'll the really comprehensive testing he says i have to undergo. So he wants me to do all the testing and then see what we are up against before deciding how to start treatment.
Apparently, out here they dont do vigorous testing on you untill you have had 3 miscarriages in a row. But thankfully i have a Dr who thinks it doesnt make sense to wait for a 3rd one just incase there is an underlying problem causing the miscarriages.
My prayer is that all the test reults will be normal and all i have to worry about will be Low Progesterone.

@Slimphemmie, Ur right, the day i bought that book i wasnt able to do anyother thing untill i finished reading it. It so practical.

@shiloh, i jst saw ur post. I totally undrstand how you feel. Lemme gve yoou a lil background abt my situation, I've been married about a year and 3 months now and i jst had a miscarriage last week. Thats my 2nd miscarriage in 5 months. To be honest i didnt know i would survive this 2nd miscarriage but i did by the special grace of God.
The day i was told my baby had stopped developing and no heartbeat was found anymore, no words can decribe how i felt or what went through my mind. But i realized that God can never give us more than we can handle, and what does not not kill us can only make us stronger. I am fully confident that we will all come out of this smiling. God is faithful and his promises must come to pass in our lives.

Try and find the book "Supernatural Childbirth" if you have not read it, it will really give you the strength you need. I read the book everyday, and when am done am so happy and i feel my faith over flowing.
I didnt mean to give you a sermon(lol), but i jst want to encourage you not to give up my dear the answer is closer than you think. Always remember that when the intensity heats up, that means you are closer to your victory. It always seems darkest just before the dawn arrives.

Stay strong luv for you time of harvest is coming.

@Nolla, girl you really have to take it easy. We all have to take this journey one day at a time, even tho there are times wen u feel so overwhelmed with everythng especially when your trying to undrstand what is actually going on and you still find no answers. Relax dear God is definitely in control, it is well.
I dont know if you've heard of the book "Supernatural Childbirth" its a very encouraging book and will uplift you anytime you start getting stressed out. If you can lay hands on it, its a good book to read.

@teewai27, a big congrats to you dear, wishing you a very successful pregnancy.
Such news reminds me that God is still listening to us, all we have to do is have faith and believe.

@Nolla
Welcome to the forum, am pretty new myself.
Its really good that you ovulate every month cos that's one hurdle crossed. Did your Obgyn do a really comprehensive testing on you? There are so many tests for ttc women. And like Seanbell said a 2nd opinion might be the way to go. I have found out that some doctors are more aggressive than others so you might want to see another Dr.

Baby dust to you
Health / Re: Trying To Conceive A Child? TTC by Hebrewwoman1: 6:34pm On Apr 19, 2012
@Swit2have
Its not normal to have such a long period, irregular periods most times is as a result of an underlying issue. Not to scare you but you need to go get checked out.
About a year ago i was diagnosed with PCOS and the reason i went to get checked out was because of my very irregular periods but the good news is that PCOS is very common and very easily managed.

You said you have been on clomid since Jan, having you been increasing your dosage every cycle? Clomid is usually started at 50mg even though some Doctors start at 100mg and is increased by 50mg every cycle until you find the right dosage for you. SO if you started @ 50mg in Jan by now you should be taking 200mg this April if you didn't ovulate the previous months.
Also how are you checking to know if you ovulating while on clomid or not?

Sorry about your hubby, make sure that you always pray for him. They feel the pressure too. Like you said dear it is well indeed.
