TravelRe: 7 Most Dangerous Roads To Travel In Nigeria( SEE PHOTOS) by HEIR: 9:44pm On Mar 05, 2016
I served in kwara state, I can't agree more. This road is the 'worstest' ever. I wonder then if kwara was in Nigeria. Zero federal presence!
sunshine1974:
Op u have missed out the No1 on that list.......Ilorin-Jebba-Mokwa road down to bida.......dat shld top the list
PoliticsRe: Reno Omokri Replies Osinbajo's Road Assertion by HEIR: 11:25pm On Mar 01, 2016
Am not an expert, but i know road construction contracts, progress and whatever are usually access ed in terms of 'KM or MILES' constructed not whether old, new or rehabilitated.
So the real argument should be, how many KMs of road did the GEJ adminstration construct. I won't score that administration a C though. But the current adminstration doesn't merit an F so far.
PoliticsRe: Reno Omokri Replies Osinbajo's Road Assertion by HEIR: 11:00pm On Mar 01, 2016
Mr moderator, why are you adding 'from start to finish'. Did the VP mention that in his speech? Or you are his new spokesman
I guess the VP probably meant this, because the records show roads were being constructed (eg east west road). The usual mindset to score cheap political points, made him state facts out of context. I feel pained that people now insult the office of a 'pastor' because of one careless statement from the prof.
Mynd44:
How did the Vice President lie? Reno just confirmed that there was no new road construction (from start to finish) under President Jonathan's administration. Which was what the VP said
TravelRe: What I Saw In An Airline Today. by HEIR: 10:41am On Feb 29, 2016
Bros calm down, I know you've a platinum abi gold card flying around the world. Isn't obvious they allow pers in other seats but these use theirs for some reasons, SAFETY! Most airlines using such aircraft, usually removed it altogether or secure nicely.
Newer planes carry improved design of more leg room and access and an in seat tray. Arik needs to improve on this anyways.
ttmacoy:
Unless that is particular to Nigerian airlines, I have NEVER been on an airline that does not allow you use trays for emergency reasons.

The use of the inserted in the arm seat tray is due to the fact exit seats tend to have wider leg room which means having the tray in front will be too far forward to eat on. It's not because of safety or emergency.

Think of it, isn't easier and quicker to put up a tray in front compared to the in the arm one?

Not all planes have in arm trays on exit row seats because not all planes have wide enough legroom there to require one. The driver for having an in arm tray is the width of the legroom ie how far in front will the tray be and not safety.

It is actually quicker to put up and latch an in front tray than an in arm one.
TravelRe: What I Saw In An Airline Today. by HEIR: 10:19pm On Feb 28, 2016
These are old Boeing aircrafts, newer models have the trays fitted inside the arm rest for seats close to the emergency exits. It possess a serious safety hazard during emergency. Airlines abroad using such old planes also seal theirs too, albeit with better astestic appeal. Please don't be too hard on them.

PoliticsRe: Buhari Withdraws 2016 Budget From National Assembly by HEIR: 10:56pm On Jan 04, 2016
God bless you there
If this is true, then its victory for the nigerian people. More reason why we should keep checking on our leaders and not just cheer because we belong to same party or just blame the past governments.
I still feel the buhari's government is still asleep, it honestly needs our help, advice and input.

But the president's kitchen cabinet abi handlers are really messing him up sha
Emekamex:
I hope zombies can see the reason why we need to criticize the government when things ain't right. If we didn't wail this equivocal and highly bloated budget would have been passed.
Blindly supporting whatever APC does won't help us at all.
PoliticsRe: Shocking Revelation From The Buhari Budget Proposal...... by HEIR:
Have mercy Lord.
Nice one op, we are really making some progress here. Not just siddon look and allow these wicked so called leaders suck us dry until we close shop.
For me, at critical times like these we need to speak out more and more to 'wake up' the buhari government and check make him at all times. The guy is sleeping and actually needs direction. Let's support the government and help ourselves by scrutinising each policy statement rationally. It would also help apc score some points too. Lol

Mr man, enough of this pdp dis & dat already. We already know they mismanaged our economy just like the military before them.
Calm down, take a nap and take a close look at what's going on right now. Should we continue like this? I guess we should all scream right now at the top of our voice instead of complaining a few years from now how things have gone bad.
To be frank with you my brother, things are getting worse by the day.
ddippset:
all these are the cause of your wailings, anguish and gnashing of teeth! 'your' is plural in my context BTW. you guys have this self deception that apc snatched or cheated the pdp of power. People did not vote apc because they were lied to. People voted pdp because they were subjected to the most inhumane and insensitive regime the world ever saw. Looting, hunger, incompetence, millitancy, insecurity became a norm in our country. People began to see the pdp as a pague ambodied by the clueless Jonathan who couldn't even govern his wife not to talk of 100 million adults. Conduct the Nigerian elections 100 times, the pdp cannot be an option to apc. Most people would even ópt for kowa party. We cannot go back to our vómit. Pdp is the worst disease Known to mankind . APC nor good, but pdp nor be option. Wail as you like.
PoliticsRe: Why Buhari Should Not Borrow Next Year by HEIR: 12:57pm On Dec 25, 2015
Funny thread indeed. tuale4u gave this whole analysis in some other thread. Which was a very good job but missed out on some things. These are my little additions though.

1. Production cost to produce one barrel was about $18. So the new $31 is still quite arguable even if u mention vandalism and other security concerns. Shale guys produce at about $38 per barrIel(so won't break even if they start exporting). Countries like in the middle east as low as $10 per barrel, so would still break even if crude falls to $20 per barrel.
2. The production cost is shared by the FG and operators 60:40. Just like the profit.
3. Operational cost dropped in the last one year as NAPIMS direct all operator to reflect this in all their expenditure. NAPIMS and DPR check each ticket to ensure strict compliance. Also expect further drop this year. The reason for job cuts and all
4. Lets not stop here, lets take it to the national assembly if the correct figures are not reflected.

Merry Christmas
PoliticsRe: Why Oil revenue in 2016 budget is just 820 billion naira? An Explanation!! by HEIR: 6:46pm On Dec 24, 2015
Good job tuale4u. But as porka state the FG takes about 60% of the production cost. Which means $18 per barrel production cost actually means $10.8 per barrel cost goes to FG. Shale guys produces at about $38, meaning there not breaking even at the moment.
DPR and NAPIMS review this regularly, checking each receipt and ticket(money changes hand though).
That was why NAPIMS informed all operators this year, to cut cost of production/operational cost cut down by 60%. As such all contracts were pruned down by 60%

Please input these in your calculations. I also learnt there are plans to reduce each contract cost further next year.
I TOTALLY DISAGREE WE WILL GET JUST 830 BILLON FROM CRUDE OIL SALES
PoliticsRe: 2016 Budget: A Budget Of Change Or A Budget Of Burden? by HEIR: 1:48pm On Dec 24, 2015
Nice response. But my real fear here is for our future. Someone comes up with a concerns, instead of carefully analysing the issue we just toe the party line.
That been said the op gave examples of greek and osun economics. Where did you honestly think they got it wrong?
For me those bogus and unrealistic campaign promises on wefare(5k for youth et al) which are very good should be shelved for now, at least most nigerians know we can't fund those now. IN SUMMARY OUR LETS SEE HOW WE CAN REDUCE BORROWING, DELAY THE BOGUS PROMISES FOR NOW AND USE THOSE FUNDS FOR CAPITAL PROJECTS, SO WE CAN GENERATE MORE IGR AS YOU STATE.
EACH YOUTH IN NIGERIA TODAY HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO CAUSE CHANGE BY PROPER ANALYSIS OF EACH GOVERNMENT POLICY. WE MUST CONTINUE TO VOICE OUR CENCERNS ELSE THESE RECYCLED LEADERS CONTINUE TO MORGAGE OUR FUTURE.

GOD BLESS NIGERIA AND HAPPY CHRISTMAS
kasay:
I hardly comment on economic analysis on Nairaland because I find a lot of pedestrian and ignorant perspective here. However, let me respond to the narrow and perverted views of my good friend and self -anointed nairaland columnist. Barcanista writeup is centred on oil price benchmark for the budget and borrowing to finance capital expenditure components of the same budget. Barcanista is wrongly worried about oil prices fluctuation and borrowing without undertaking serious scientific and strategic analysis of the budget. He sounds and write like a cartoon version of Olisa Metuh who craft senseless press releases before engaging in sensible thinking. Now, it's common knowledge that global forecast indicated that oil prices will shore up and stabilised in 2016. This is further strengthen by strategic actions of OPEC and supply management. However, even if this doesn't happen and prices further plummet by 60%, they exist several other non-budgetry and development financing options to address anticipated deficit. On borrowing, there is nothing wrong with borrowing to finance investment with high return and regenerative value. American and other developed economies still borrow to fund their needs inspite of their huge reserves and strong economy. The common sense theory of operating with OPM in business applies to government too. Strategic borrowing to finance critical infrastructure like power, transport, works, railways etc and vital social services like education and healthcare will positively impact on inclusive growth and economic development. It will enable shared prosperity while creating jobs and eradicating poverty. This will translate to better living conditions for citizens and increase productivity which will lead to higher government internal revenues and debt repayment capacity. Tonye Bastardnista, if you borrow 100m to invest in your business and properly utilised that loan for growing your business, it will translate to expansion of your business, value creation, providing more jobs and contributing higher taxes as well better life for you and your family. Even at 5tr borrowing, our debt to GDP ratio is still not up to 20% which is the global benchmark for performing loans and country credit worthiness. If previous corrupt PDP government could borrow during surplus to pay salaries, why won't a corrupt -free and well-intention APC government borrow to invest in regenerative and development oriented projects with high IRR? Borrowing is a key element of public financing strategy for all governments across all locations and era. Tonyebacanista, you may wish to consult with public sector economic experts to tutor you on the mechanics of budgeting and long term strategic outcomes of a well-thought-out budget like the budget of change, if not, your misrepresentation of the budget of change will increase the burden of Wailing imposed on you by YOU. Nice day brother.
PoliticsRe: The Unraveling Of Iraq Is Playing Out Just As Dick Cheney Predicted by HEIR: 6:14pm On Oct 01, 2015
I share your sentiments, its given me a new line of thought about the war. The us pulled out too quickly and where not responsible enough to stabilise iraq and others, especially libya of late. Fine the war wasn't necessary in the 1st place but if the us and allied nations had stayed put, the change they promised would have been achieved for sure.
Russian presence in syria now poses a new dynamics to this war. I learnt they gave nato forces just one hour notice, then started pounding targets
EdCure:
The events of 9/11 was what gave the Iraq war a favourable Amrican public opinion that Bush/Sheney could not resist.
Obama mismanaged the war by pulling out too early. His support for opposition against Syria's Assad is what led to the creation and bolstering of the dreaded ISIS.
Sometimes i wonder how a naiive community organizer with no experience in governance and no foreign policy credentials other than being a "superstar" could be made president of a strategic country like the US.

How come they all didn't have life jackets on(its mandatory dat all persengers wear a lift jacket & properly too, else wont be allowed to board[/color]). 12 people in a helicopter seems like a lot. Abi these helicopter companies are also acting like molue like our airplanes(12 is very normal with sikorsky, puma carries as much as 24pers). If they had their life jackets on, they would all have survived even if they nose dived(they all did, but life jacket wont save you inside d heli). Or at least start jumping one after the other in the water with their life jacket on as the plane is going down. There is no way they didn't know that the plane was going to crash(jump out? lol). Several people saw it flying low with very loud noise. O boi, I would have opened the door and jumped as soon as I can see the water is close enough to jump into. This is why everyone should know how to swim. It is a life and death skill
