Programming / Re: How I Learnt To Program by HeliumStar: 10:53am On Apr 13
tosinhtml:

Many reasons.

Incomplete resource:
W3schools is good for syntax, but It is extremely and amateur beginner friendly as It omits a lot of important stuff of a programming language when learning, but they forget people new to programming do not even require that deep resource, they just need to get their foot in the door. Definitely not for more seasoned programmers or for experienced seniors.

They are better resources such as freeCodeCamp, MDN for complete documentation. Tutorials Point website is also great but developers hate it too for the similar reasons.

Superiority complex:
Accomplished software engineers actually hate most amateur engineers and any content that cater to amateur engineers. They believe all content should be complex and very detail from the get-go. For example, using some programming languages can make you look like an amateur amongst other programmers.

Examples of superiority complex in tech:
PHP for example is seen as an amateur programming language. If you write Core PHP, you're not recognised as real programmer. Backend / Cloud engineers believe that they are more important and do a harder job than Frontend engineers. Someone on Nairaland even said Frontend engineering is not real engineering.

Stackoverflow bias:
Amateur dev questions on Stackoverflow years ago used to be flagged and closed because some group of devs were angry that users or a programmer can even ask such a question. Now we have ChatGPT that you can learn almost every thing from, whether simple or complex. The Stackoverflow bias has been defeated permanently.

Thanks for this. Now I seem to understand. Been using freeCodeCamp by the way. Done with CSS.

W3schools has done a lot of good for real, I learnt most of what I know at the beginning of my career from there years ago. It is best for beginners & they don't make you look stupid for not knowing simple things.

Even some complex topics in class back then was simplified on W3schools.

Then why is it so hated among programmers as a learning resource especially amongst those abroad. I remember when I was about to start learning and was searching for the best free platform, one even said if he saw an applicant with a certificate from W3schools, he'd instantly throw it into the bin.

I really would like to know why, if you don't mind.

Hi all, please help me out.

I recently created Afternic account and listed a domain for sale, did ownership verification and even activated Fast Transfer only for me to log in today and meet the message below.

Please what do I do?

Putting this here for anybody who might run into the same issue just like me.

Do not be confused by the "Your account is suspended. Contact your administrator" message, just mail their customer support service@afternic.com, they'll help you resolve the issue.

It took a number of trial and errors for them to get it done and they said it's a part of a larger known issue they're looking to resolve but I'm glad it's been finally sorted.

It won't. I use WHOIS Privacy for all domains in my portfolio.

Let him simply contact Afternic and find out what happened.

Alright thanks

Meanwhile the same name is successfully listed on Sedo.

From my quick #Land search, I saw somewhere that turning on WHOIS privacy might make them suspend an account, could that be so because I have the WHOIS privacy turned on.

My advice would be to take up a project using HTML and CSS only. You get practical experiences when you grind with a fun project.

Dedicate a week to design a web page. You can always search Pinterest for design inspirations. Go for a design you are confident in and build.

When you are satisfied, move to vanilla Javascript. Dedicate a month or two for learning and build another project tailored to what you have learnt. Be consistent and you'll become good in no time.

This is exactly what I've been thinking, will sure do sir.

My advice for you is to remember the country that you're in no one is looking for a frontend dev in nigeria everyone wants someone that can build them a complete ecomerce website, next thing I have to say is css is broad its so broad that you have learn forever and you still won't be able to say you're good even the creators don't truly understand the stylesheet and as far as learning bootstrap goes as long as you know css just start a project and use bootstrap it's something you learn on the job so in conclusion now that you're done with css move to js then react then node js which means learning express and mongodb then start your first fullstack project do alot of research when you're done the rest is straightforward.
Best regards

Many thanks for this.

Will sure follow your advice.

I think it depends on what you want to do if you want to learn front end yea, js is cool then you can learn react and type script later

Thanks for the response, yeah I want to focus on front-end for now.
But if I may, I kind of feel like taking some time to get really good at CSS and probably learn Bootstrap before proceeding to JavaScript.

I'm a complete learner though, should I just get along with JS or should I take some time to ground myself better in CSS?

Hello gurus,

I just completed the web design module (html & css) on freecodecamp. My question is what do I do next.

Should I start learning a programming language e.g JS or there are some important things I need to lear first;

Thanks

Almost impossible should be the word

92 and jamb score 269
Will pose a threat. But if you think 92 is an impossible score it’s fine. For someone with 340 to get relegated he must have gotten an abysmally low score like 66 or below.

I no get strength for argument.

Funny enough someone running a tutorial in Ibadan had a student with 203 for UI medicine. And the person refused to change course or school. She told her tutor not to be a discourager lol. Now it’s this type you’ll call suicidal.

Guy! Argument is not my thing but the fact should be said, every single post is as important in the decision making of aspirants here, writing this to avoid had I known situations. A friend of mine was telling me some days ago of how his 322 got wasted at UI in the just concluded admission exercise, worse was that he didn't register for this year's UTME.

You really think somebody who would be able to secure 92 shocked shocked in UI's post UTME would score 270 in Jamb? Let's be sincere with ourselves haba!

When I wrote UTME in 2020, my 305 got wasted by UI, had to rush and change to FUTA, it was there I met people with 330's who were as well ridiculed by UI. Of course 300+ do gain admission there but trust me, they sacrificed a lot for it, it's a very brutal race when it comes to MB;BS in UI.

I really have a long epistle here, but my point to aspirants is: be real with yourself, stop living in an utopian dream of "I will be an exception to that", choose your course wisely. Change if you need to: either your course or your university. Time is money! cry

Unical will be a big mistake
grin

I will rather someone with 269 attempt UI than unical lol

Well I don't really know what you mean by this but candidates with 300, 320, 330 even a few 340's get retired in UI every year, it'd be suicidally impossible for a 269 to secure an mbbs admission at UI.

Putting this here for nothing else than the purpose of clarification.

The way some people think is funny!

Just because it's your field, you don't expect the whole world to revolve around it!

Not everyone knows the meaning of SBE not alone what it entails, a little intro of that should have been given at first.

Poor communication skills.

Good day house.

Do you think it's necessary writing the WASSCE PRIVATE EXAM, having gained admission to study medicine with my NECO RESULT?

As it is now I have just NECO result and none for WASSCE.

So if that'll affect me someday I was pondering sitting for the WAEC GCE - probably if I were to be offered employment abroad in any country then would my NECO certificate be eligible?

Just read this properly, MODIFIED

It'll be advisable for you to take the WASSCE. Opportunities abroad require well recognised certificates and to be sincere, WAEC is more recognised internationally compared to NECO.

And even for the local environment, some employers would require a certificate from WAEC.

Although not exactly the same, I myself did only NECO in JSS3 but had to go back and enroll for junior WAEC when my research pointed to me that the WAEC certificate has more weight in the grand scheme of things.

I guess cutting off a number of their staff to retain only the essential ones is what that means undecided
