babbs45: I'll contact the embassy and explain the situation. They will advice you on what to do. They should be able to re-seal the envelope for a small fee. Good luck.

I happened to witness this elderly woman who was almost refused entry at JFK, couple of years ago because her sealed envelope was opened. In her case the envelope was accidently opened by an immigration official at Shiphol airport. This elderly woman spoke little English and couldn't explain to immigration official at JKF why the envelope was opened. I had to go explain to the official what happened at Schiphol but still he was adamant, so I asked to speak to his supervisor and I told him what had happened at Schipol and that its no fault of hers before she was let in. It was quite a hassle.

You just have to be truthful when asked why you opened it. All the best.

tzetzefly: Actually that package is meant for the Homeland security and CBP officer. It is better for you to repackage the envelope and apply an adhesive tape adequately in order to seal it.

In case you're asked at the entry point, do not lie about this only be quick to point out that you were not informed about the need not to look into the package.

tzetzefly: There are other options for you to book with, you can try: KLM, Lufthansa, American Airline, United Airline, Royal Air Maroc, Air France, Emirates, Qatar Airways among others.

But mind you there's high increase in airfares for Newyork this August going for as much as #400,000 and above. You can also visit their offices at the MMIA to ascertain the cheapest fare to your destination or alternatively, you can fly to other US airports for alot less before connecting to your prefered destination with a domestic airline.

Such destinations as these ones below can be reached with either Emirates or Qatar Airways:

3. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)

blawi1: @ Henries, sure you can buy a 1-way ticket afterall you're moving permanently and not sure when you'd want to visit. The CBP won't question that, they won't check. A 1-way ticket is only slightly cheaper that a return ticket maybe a 20 or 30k difference but pls check with a travel agent, check wakanow.com or travelstart.com.ng or the website of ur preferred airline.

babbs45: The petitioner pays all money involve in the process to NVC. The beneficiary just shows up for the interview with the necessary documents. Hope you have your spouse current income tax transcript.
