PoliticsOnly Nnamdi Kanu's Release Can Stop Sit-at-home Protest, Fr Mbaka Tells Soludo by Henrinos(op):
The fearless outspoken priest and spiritual head of Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria, Father Ejike Mbaka during the Good Friday all-night program, spoke about the monday sit at home, he lamented on the negative impact of the exercises, especially on business people, but also made it clear what the only solution will be.

He said; we can not deny the fact that this sit at home is costing millions of money especially to business people, but we cannot also pretend not to know the solution.

They should release our brother mazi Nnamdi Kanu. If he is released today the sit at home will stop today. You can’t stop it by force, politicians tried it but it was in vain. They sit at home with their families every monday and if they want to go out, they move with more than 20 trucks of security men.

Anambra Government that tried to use force to stop it is feeling the heat today. So let them release our brother mazi Nnamdi Kanu and sit at home will stop.

On mazi Nnamdi Kanu, he first sang the emotional brotherhood song; (onuru ube nwa nne agbala oso) ” He who hears the cry of his brother should not abandon him”

Then he said; He is our brother, we lifted our hands up to God to pray for his release, we can’t run away from it, it is a situation that came up with our generation, we must face it.

I heard the names of some people that were granted presidential amnesty but his name was not there. I wonder what his crime is…
Let the Igbos who can go request for his release start the journey.

WEIGHT:Scientists now believe that maintaining a healthy weight is the single most important thing you can do for cancer prevention, aside from not smoking. Losing just 10 per cent of excess weight can make a dramatic difference.

WALK: According to an examination of 40 studies, simply walking for 30 minutes a day can help you beef up to 24 illnesses. It’s also great for brain function and mental health, helps you sleep better and will keep your weight in check.

EAT WELL:Eat a balanced diet, including food groups, advised Amy Thompson of the British Heart Foundation “Fruit and Veg” should make up a third of what we eat, a third should come from starchy foods, like bread, rice, potatoes and pasta; and a third from protein such as lean meat, fish, eggs and low-fat milk. Try to avoid eating too much-saturated fat and salt.

REDUCE YOUR DRINKING:A third of women drink more than the recommended daily guidelines (two or three units per day), with excess drinking causing high blood pressure, increased stroke risk, reduced fertility and mental health problems.

And because alcohol affects women differently from men, certain conditions such as cancer, digestive problems and heart disease pose an additional threat to women who drink to excess. The risk of breast cancer increases with each daily unit above the recommended level.

BusinessNigeria To Effect Higher Taxes On Cigarettes, shisha, others June 1 by Henrinos(op): 12:01pm On Apr 16, 2022
The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that the new tax regime for tobacco will be implemented from June 1, 2022.

Director of Technical Services, Federal Ministry of Finance, Fatima Hayatu said this at a meeting with the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC).

The Programme Manager on Democratic Governance, Okeke Anya led the organisation’s Tobacco Taxation Working Group.

Hayatu called the tobacco industry a powerful one, assuring that the ministry is committed to checkmating illicit flow of the product into the market.

She hinted that plans were underway to engage relevant stakeholders to implement a robust track and trace system.

The government is set to constitute a tobacco tax working group to study what other ECOWAS countries are doing.

The director said the taxation on a stick of cigarette was N2.90kobo but has now increased to N4.20kobo.

This followed ECOWAS recommendation of 0.02cents per stick of cigarette which, at the current exchange rate, would give N8.40kobo.

“However, it was agreed to meet the recommendation half-way which would give N4.20kobo starting from 2022.

“Then in 2023, and additional 50kobo would be added to make N4.70kobo then in 2024, 50kobo would be added to make it N5.20kobo.

“These will all reflect the current increase of the Ad Valorem from 20% to 30%. This is a gradual increase in the tax, and all is currently in review.

“The increase in tax/levies will not only be for tobacco products, but for others such as shisha, similar classification, the apparatus used to convey and consume them.

“Shisha will also be taxed by N3,000 per liter, N1,000 per Kg and it will be increased by N500 yearly”, Hayatu disclosed.

In his remark, Anya urged the Federal Government to include shisha pots and other electric smoking devices in the new tobacco tax regime.

The CISLAC official said this would crash their demand and increase revenue for the nation.

“Tobacco has a devastating effect on the health of Nigerians”, he stressed, adding that it should be well taxed as a luxury good.

“The increase in tax will be an avenue to generate revenue. This is how many countries operate because consumption of tobacco is a luxury and not a necessity,” he said.

Anya insists citizens will like to know the tobacco products that have paid the right tax duties and where they come.
