SportsBurnley Sack Manager Sean Dyche With Eight Games Left Of Premier League by Henrinos(op): 11:54am On Apr 15, 2022
Sean Dyche
Dyche managed just four league wins with Burnley this season
Burnley have sacked manager Sean Dyche with eight games left of their season in the Premier League.

The Clarets, who have lost five of their last six top-flight games, are 18th and four points from safety.

Dyche was the Premier League's longest serving manager, having taken over at Turf Moor in October 2012.

Burnley chairman Alan Pace said it was "an incredibly difficult decision" to part company with the 50-year-old, but "we feel a change is needed".

Dyche's last game in charge of Burnley saw them lose 2-0 to Norwich City, who are bottom of the Premier League.

Assistant manager Ian Woan, first-team coach Steve Stone and goalkeeping coach Billy Mercer have also left the club.

"Firstly, we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Sean and his staff for their achievements at the club over the last decade," said Pace.

"During his time at Turf Moor, Sean has been a credit both on and off the pitch, respected by players, staff, supporters, and the wider football community.

"However, results this season have been disappointing and, while this was an incredibly difficult decision, with eight crucial games of the campaign remaining, we feel a change is needed to give the squad the best possible chance of retaining its Premier League status.

"Under-23s coach Mike Jackson, assisted by academy director Paul Jenkins, Under-23s goalkeeping coach Connor King and club captain Ben Mee have been asked to take charge of the team for Sunday's game with West Ham United.

"The process of replacing Sean has begun and further announcements will be made to supporters in due course."

Dyche had signed a new four-year contract until 2025 with Burnley in September last year.

During his spell at the club he guided them to two promotions from the Championship and two top-half Premier League finishes.

He also helped Burnley achieve their first European qualification in 51 years courtesy of leading them to a commendable seventh place in the Premier League in 2017-18.

However, the Clarets have won just four Premier League games this season, the worst win record in the league.

'The impact has to be absolutely immediate' - Analysis
BBC Sport football reporter Simon Stone

Burnley are in their sixth successive season in the Premier League, which is their longest run in the top flight since their heydays in the 1960s.

It is a brave owner of any football club who just accepts relegation without doing something to stop it. Alan Pace, the owner and chairman of Burnley, is a relatively new owner and he has decided to act.

The impact has to be absolutely immediate and I guess that means Burnley picking up points immediately. They start against West Ham on Sunday, then Southampton and Wolves.

Sean Dyche is highly employable. Any like-minded club such as Burnley, Dyche will be top of the people who will be to be favourites to take over that job.

He has been linked with many Premier League jobs over the years. He has always responded to those rumours by saying he was at Burnley - now he is not. I don't think it will be long until he gets another job.

Palestinian demonstrators clash with Israeli police at Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa mosque compound on April 15, 2022.More than 100 people were wounded Friday in clashes between Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli police at Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa mosque compound, in fresh violence as Jewish and Christian festivals overlap with Ramadan. Israeli police said that before dawn "dozens of masked men" marched into Al-Aqsa chanting and setting off fireworks before crowds hurled stones towards the Western Wall -- considered the holiest site where Jews can pray. A Palestinian Red Crescent official said 117 people were rushed to hospitals and "dozens of other injuries" were treated at the scene. Israeli police said three officers were hurt. The latest clashes come after three tense weeks of deadly violence in Israel and the occupied West Bank, and as the Jewish festival of Passover and Christian Easter overlap with the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

REAL MADRID BOSS CARLO ANCELOTTI IS FIRST COACH TO REACH THE UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SEMI-FINALS IN FOUR DIFFERENT DECADES

Ancelotti set a new landmark and further strengthened his claim that, if any coach is worthy of being known as "Mr. Champions League," it's him. Few can claim the sheer longevity enjoyed by the 62-year-old Italian, who has become part of the furniture in the latter stages of Europe's elite competition and lifted the trophy three times.

Ancelotti has now reached the semifinals of the competition in four different decades as a manager -- and that total goes up to five if you include his career as a player.

1980s

As a player, Ancelotti was part of the great AC Milan teams that won back-to-back European Cups in 1989 and 1990, a feat that would not be repeated for another quarter of a century until Real Madrid won their third in a row in 2018.

1990s

Almost exactly a decade later, Ancelotti returned to the semifinals of the Champions League for the first time as a coach when he successfully guided Juventus to the last four in 1998-99, after taking over from Marcello Lippi in February of that season. The Bianconeri were struggling for form but did at least manage to save some face in Europe by drawing 1-1 with Manchester United in the first leg of their semi at Old Trafford, before falling to a 3-2 home defeat in the second two weeks later. While Juve crashed out and limped to a disappointing seventh-place finish in Serie A, United went on to complete the Treble by beating Bayern Munich in the final.

2000s

Ancelotti spent eight years in charge at Milan between 2001 and 2009 and guided them to the semifinals of the Champions League on no fewer than four occasions. The first instance came in 2002-03, when the Rossoneri squeezed past rivals Inter Milan on away goals before beating Juventus in a thoroughly tedious final that was decided by a penalty shootout. The 2004-05 season saw Milan comfortably dispatch PSV Eindhoven in the semis before taking a 3-0 first-half lead against Liverpool in the final in Istanbul, only to be on the wrong end of one of the most stunning comebacks of all time and ultimately lose on penalties. Back-to-back semifinal runs then followed in 2005-06 and 2006-07, with the latter culminating in Ancelotti lifting the trophy for the second time as a manager after masterminding a 2-1 revenge victory over Liverpool in Athens.

2010s

After stints with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain yielded little in the way of European success, Ancelotti landed the Real Madrid job in 2013 and promptly returned to the final four of the Champions League. Firstly, Real beat Bayern Munich 5-0 on aggregate in the semis to reach the 2013-14 final, where they put another four goals past Atletico Madrid to win "La Decima" -- the club's record 10th victory in the competition, claimed an agonising 12 years after their ninth. Ancelotti then took Real back to the semis in 2014-15 only to see their title defence halted by Juventus, who emerged with a 3-2 aggregate victory.

2020’s

It took seven years away and tenures with varying levels of success at Bayern Munich, Napoli and Everton, but Ancelotti's return to the Bernabeu has also coincided with the extension of his esteemed Champions League semifinal record. The milestone was officially passed on Tuesday thanks to Real's thrilling fightback against Chelsea. The former midfielder also got the chance to show he has not lost his touch with a nifty bit of ball control on the sidelines during the game.

SportsKylian Mbappe:PSG To Offer Striker £150m Signing-on Fee To Renew Contract by Henrinos(op): 7:31pm On Apr 08, 2022
Paris St-Germain are prepared to offer forward Kylian Mbappe a £150m signing-on fee to keep him at the club for another two seasons, reports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.

The 23-year-old's contract expires this summer and he agreed a financial package with Real Madrid months ago.

But PSG are desperate to keep him and will also offer a £21m net annual salary.

Despite that lucrative proposal, Madrid remains his preferred destination.

Speaking after scoring twice in Sunday's Ligue 1 win over Lorient, Mbappe told the media: "I haven't made my decision, there are new elements to consider. Which elements? Just new elements."

Balague says those "new elements" are the striker's wish to renegotiate with the Spanish club following the new financial offer open to him.

Qatari-owned PSG are putting pressure on the France forward to commit to a new contract and to stay until after the World Cup in Qatar in November and December.

They had already offered him a £125m signing-on fee but are now prepared to increase that by £25m.

Mbappe is represented by his parents, who disagree on what his next move should be, but ultimately the decision will be the player's. If he does stay, his advisors stand to receive £42m as a commission payment from PSG.

Real Madrid are relaxed about the situation as they know they have an agreement in place and they have cooled their interest in Erling Braut Haaland, such is their confidence in concluding a deal for Mbappe.
