Erling Haaland is the fastest and youngest men's player to reach 20 Champions League goals
Erling Haaland says he is "in the right place to fulfil his ambitions" after completing a £51.2m transfer to Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund.

The 21-year-old scored 86 goals in 89 games for Dortmund and arrives at the Premier League champions as one of world football's most coveted forwards.

He has signed a five-year deal until 2027 and will join the club on 1 July.

An agreement was reached for the Norway international in May after City activated the player's release clause.

"This is a proud day for me and my family," said Haaland, the son of former City captain Alf-Inge, who played for the club between 2000 and 2003.

"I have always watched City and have loved doing so in recent seasons. You can't help but admire their style of play - it's exciting and they create a lot of chances, which is perfect for a player like me," he added.

"There are so many world-class players in this squad and Pep [Guardiola] is one of the greatest managers of all-time, so I believe I am in the right place to fulfil my ambitions.

"I want to score goals, win trophies, and improve as a footballer and I am confident I can do that here. This is a great move for me, and I can't wait to get started in pre-season."

City director of football Txiki Begiristain said: "Haaland is a huge talent and has been one of the best strikers in Europe over the last few seasons.

"His goalscoring record is exceptional and his performances at Borussia Dortmund and in the Champions League in particular have proved he can succeed at the highest level.

"Erling has everything we want in a striker, and we are certain he will excel in this squad and this system."

The deal ends the club's hunt for a successor to club-record goalscorer Sergio Aguero, who joined Barcelona on a free transfer in June 2021.

The Argentine's departure prompted City's summer-long and ultimately unsuccessful pursuit of Tottenham and England forward Harry Kane.

Bolivian ex-president Jeanine Anez was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison, more than a year after her arrest for an alleged plot dismissed as fictional by many to oust her rival and predecessor Evo Morales, IgbereTV reports



Anez, who has been held in pre-trial detention since March 2021, has consistently denounced what she calls political persecution.

The former interim leader will serve 10 years in a women’s prison in La Paz, the administrative capital’s First Sentencing Court announced in a decision that comes three months after her trial began.

Convicted of crimes “contrary to the constitution and a dereliction of duties,” Anez was sentenced to “a punishment of 10 years” over accusations stemming from when she was a senator, before becoming president.

Prosecutors had asked for a 15-year jail sentence.

The former leader had already announced she would appeal if convicted, saying: “We will not stop there, we will go before the international justice system.”

Also sentenced to 10 years were the former head of the armed forces, William Kaliman, and the former head of the police, Yuri Calderon, both of whom are on the run.

Anez still faces a separate, pending court case for sedition and other charges related to her short presidential stint.

At the start of her presidency, Anez had called in the police and military to restore order. The post-election conflict caused 22 deaths, according to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).

For that, Anez also faces genocide charges, which carry prison sentences of between 10 and 20 years.

‘Political Persecution’

Right-wing Anez became Bolivia’s interim president in November 2019 after Morales, who claimed to have won a fourth consecutive term as president, fled the country in the face of mass protests against alleged electoral fraud.

The Organization of American States (OAS) said at the time it had found clear evidence of voting irregularities in favor of Morales, who had been in power for 14 years.

Ecuador kept its place at the World Cup on Friday when a FIFA legal ruling rejected a complaint by Chile about an alleged ineligible player.

FIFA said its disciplinary committee closed the proceedings in the claim that Ecuador defender Byron Castillo, who played in eight qualifying games, was ineligible.


Chile's football federation claimed to have documents proving Castillo is actually Colombian.

Ecuador risked forfeiting all eight games as 3-0 losses and dropping from fourth place in the South American qualifying group that ended in March. Chile would have risen to fourth in the standings.

"After analyzing the submissions of all parties concerned and considering all elements brought before it, the FIFA disciplinary committee has decided to close the proceedings initiated against the [Ecuador football federation],'' FIFA said in a statement.

Chile can challenge the ruling at FIFA's appeals committee and potentially later at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The World Cup draw was made April 1 for the tournament being played in Qatar from Nov. 21 to Dec. 18.

Ecuador was drawn in a group with host Qatar, the Netherlands and Senegal.

"The arthroscopy had been planned for a while to definitively resolve the joint's instability through the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament, with lateral reinforcement and meniscus reparation.

Two people were killed and 120 injured after a gas cylinder exploded at a restaurant in the United Arab Emirates’ capital, Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi Police and Abu Dhabi Civil Defence stated that, according to the initial information received from the site of the restaurant in Al Khalidiya, 64 people received minor injuries while 56 others had moderate injuries.

Emergency response teams in the capital had brought under control a fire that erupted after a gas cylinder exploded at the restaurant.

The restaurant is located in Al Khalidiya area, and response personnel rushed to the scene to control the situation, the Abu Dhabi Police announced on its social media platforms.

The outlet, which serves South Asian fare, is located in a five-storey building behind Khalidiyah Mall.

Preliminary information suggests that some people were injured and some shops damaged. The building has been evacuated.

Four residential buildings in the area were evacuated since the fire was reported, and residents are being provided temporary accommodation as authorities work to ensure that the structures are safe for habitation.

Lyon beat Barcelona 3-1 in the Women’s Champions League final on Saturday after midfielder Amandine Henry netted a brilliant solo goal and striker Ada Hegerberg scored one and made another in the first half of an entertaining clash.

Henry gave the French side the lead with a stunning strike in the sixth minute, winning the ball and cutting inside on her right foot before firing a rocket of a shot from distance into the top right corner.

Pensioners bank is at it again

The mass protest which disrupted economic and official activities caused gridlock for several hours, leaving travellers stranded.

Some youths and women numbering over 500 in the Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State Monday protested and barricaded Emevor-Iyede-Ughelli Asaba expressway, one of the busiest roads in the southern Nigerian state.
The protesters accused the administration of Ifeanyi Okowa of marginalising their area and refusing to construct the Emevor-Orogun Road and other roads in their community.


The mass protest which disrupted economic and official activities caused gridlock for several hours, leaving travellers stranded.
The protesters also condemned their political leaders, Paul Owhe, commissioners representing Isoko ethnic nationality in the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, (DESOPADEC) and one Nelson Ejakpovi, who is the board chairman, school of health, Ufoma, describing them as failures.
They alleged that the accused persons have amassed illicit wealth at the expense of the community.


The protesters displayed leaves and placards, with different inscriptions. They said Governor Okowa in April 2021 during the Isoko North House of Assembly bye-election electioneering, promised to build the Emevor-Orogun Road and other projects.
They however added that after the bye-election, the governor abandoned them to their fate.


The protesters, led by the community's youth secretary, John Odhe, lamented the poor execution of projects in the area. They vowed that no election or campaign ahead of the 2023 elections will be allowed to take place in Emevor community until the governor fulfils the promises made to them.
Speaking on behalf of the protesters, the youth secretary said, "No Emevor-Orogun rRoad, no campaign and no voting in 2023.
“Our protest is to drive home our demand for the completion of the first phase of Emevor–Orogun Road which is in totality a four-phase planned road with each phase spanning across major towns along the Emevor-Orogun Road and the first phase being the construction of a major access road into Emevor then navigating towards the Emevor-Orogun Road axis.
“It should be noted that this contract was first awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) over six years ago without any landmark achievement.
"Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, during the Isoko North House of Assembly bye-election campaigns last year promised that as one of the dividends of electing the House of Assembly candidate, the Emevor-Orogun Road phase one would be completed in a matter of months after clinching power.
“However, contrary to the sweet campaign promises, we are yet to see conveyance of any sand to the said road since the House of Assembly member was elected and sworn in. We have resolved that we will not entertain political campaigns in Emevor and there won’t be an election if the promises made during the last bye-election by the governor and his team are not brought into reality."


A protesting youth who simply identified himself as Oghene, said, no meaningful project had been done in the community.
"For the past 15 years, Paul Owhe and Ejakpovi have been trading with our community, building big houses within and outside Isoko. Go to Oleh and Abuja and see the big house and hospital Owhe built.
“What about Ejakpovi? Go to Benin and see what he did there, amassing illicit wealth to the detriment of Emevor. These two Emevor politicians don't care about the people apart from their immediate families. Before now, Owhe was not a successful medical doctor but go and see the properties he has amassed."
As of the time of filing this report, SaharaReporters reliable gathered that an emergency meeting had been called to be held in the palace of the traditional ruler in the community over the protest.
