Phones / Reasons Why I Prefer Telegram Over Whatsapp And BBM by henryskywalker2003(m): 6:11pm On Nov 05, 2016
A lot of ppl have been posting stuff about Telegram. But it seems no one has actually been able to point out genuine reasons why they feel the app is better than others out there like Whatsapp, BBM and Messenger.

Well, here are my own personal reasons why I feel Telegram is much better than the host of others out there....

Phones / Re: Why You Should Use Telegram Instead Of Whatsapp by henryskywalker2003(m): 1:15pm On Nov 04, 2016
asuustrike2009:
You haven't listed the features that would convince some of us to use WhatsApp or is just one

True, that's because I think he just started using it. I have been on it for more than 2 years now. So, let me help him out.

Let's start with the obvious features first, shall we?

1. END TO END ENCRYPTION: Before the likes of Whatsapp, FB and BBM thought of this, Telegram was already at the forefront. It started from the very first day Telegram was launched. It was launched with Security and Privacy as its selling points. This was demonstrated when the likes of Whatsapp and BBM were experience data leaks and server outages due to attacks from hackers.

2. SEAMLESS INTEGRATION ACROSS DEVICES: Now this can mean a lot of different things to different folks, ranging from unified look across devices to following individual and laid down design languages for the individual platforms. Whichever way you look at it, you are quite correct. On Android, it follows Android's Material Design, on Windows, Metro and also on the iOS too. And each time the app is updated with new features, it is done across board to all the platforms. The only one that doesn't usually get all the new features is the web platform and this brings me to the next feature.

3. AVAILABILITY ON WIDE RANGE OF DEVICES: From Android, to Windows, to iOS, (sorry no blackberry), Telegram has native apps for each of these platforms. As you can see, it isn't available on Blackberry, but don't fret. Telegram is also available on the web. But this is a whole other feature so I will reserve it as the next one to talk about.

4. WEB APP:
Long before Whatsapp built their stupid web interface (yes, it's quite stupid cos it doesn't work when your phone is offline), telegram built theirs. But this isn't anything like the crap Whatsapp has. No sir, not at all. This is a full featured and standalone web app. You can log in without having to even have the app on your device and chat whether the phone that already have the app is online or not.

5. SEAMLESS MESSAGING: Do you ever wish you could have the same whatsapp or bbm on multiple devices and chat from both devices at once. In that way, you can have one device low on juice or be charging and easily pick up where you left off from a different device without having to jump thru hoops? Well, wish no more folks. With Telegram, you can have one account on multiple devices and chat simultaneously from any of the connected devices. How come you ask? Well, when you log in to multiple devices, each device is synchronized that as messages are coming in, they are being displayed simultaneously on all connected devices. What about the messages you send, you ask me? Well, do you recall I said MESSAGES? That means, messages you send and those sent to you by your contacts, including group messages. That's right. They are all updated in real time as you chat. Speaking of real time updates, the app is so good at what it does that even your drafts are updated across all connected devices. Say for instance, you were typing a message on your phone and you didn't send it and dropped it to go wee wee cool, and on your way back you picked up your tablet and open your telegram, the unsent message will automatically show up in the chat as a draft waiting for you on the different device. So, no need to retype the entire message again just because you moved to a different device. Great, right?

6. GROUPS CHANNELS AND INVITE LINKS: Whatsapp has its groups, BBM its channels. Ever wondered what will happen if BBM Channel marries Whatsapp's group? Well think no more, the answer is in Telegram. Telegram groups has the huge numbers of participant that BBM was known for back in the days, combined with the ease of Whatsapp's groups. In Telegram, you can create groups with a huge number of participants. When I say huge, I mean 5000 huge. Yeah, that's right guys. 5000 participants, I kid you not. But then again, who on earth creates a group with 5000 participants? That's like f**king crazy. But anyway, the feature is there for anyone that wants to do that. Plus, you can have multiple admins and add ppl without having them as your contacts, simply by sharing an invite link to them. Yeah, you are right, Whatsapp got the idea from Telegram and implemented that recently. Again, unlike Whatsapp but like BBM, Telegram has Channels and but unlike the huge numbers of the group, Telegram decided to respect themselves and reduce the number of participants to a mere unlimited. Now I know you are like, but unlimited is bigger than huge now. Yeah, to some ppl. Cos I personally feel unlimited is just too small. What am I saying sef, Telegram is F**KING CRAZY. What were they thinking?

7. SHARING SHARING AND MORE SHARING: We all know the limits of sending files on Whatsapp and BBM. From the compression of pics to limiting of the size and format of files one can send. BBM even tried by allowing one to send a more diverse set of files unlike WhatsApp. Telegram on the other hand took the lazy and easy way out approach. Your are free to send files of up to 1gb and no restriction on the kind/format. You want to share pics, videos, documents, exe, .jpg, .mp4, .eba, .ewedu, .amala, .gala. You are free. Just share the damn thing and let me do other things

8. MESSAGE RETRACTION/EDITING, SELF-DESTRUCTING MESSAGES, SECRET CHATS: Need I say more? Before BBM thought of self destruction and retraction of messages, we were already flexing it on Telegram. You can easily edit messages that have already been sent, received and read by your contact up to two days. That's right. Even those messages you sent him/her two days ago can be edited and corrected. No need resending with an asterisk to correct your mistakes. Edited messages will bear an "edited" next to the two ticks. Similarly, you can have secret chats. Secret chats are what they are, SECRET. So, even if you are connected to multiple devices, the secret chat will only show up on the device upon which it was initiated.

9. ONLINE BACKUP:
Now, I know many of you will say Whatsapp backs up your chats via Google Drive these days. Yeah, but that's a recent feature and not well implemented. Imagine having to change devices and whatsapp will want to waste ur precious MB downloading videos and voice notes that you got 4years ago from a group you are no longer a member of. Telegram backs up all your chats (except secret chats) to its own servers and when you change devices, it automatically restores your chats to a reasonable period of time and none of your multimedia. The multimedia can easily be accessed by going back to the chat you got it from and clicking on shared media and you will see the thumbnails of all of them. From there, you can now download any that you need at any time you want. Again, this can be changed in the setting and have it download all your files automatically.

I will add some more features when I have time. Just manage these ones for now.

He is just being biased. The latest MTK phones are just as powerful as Snapdragon, so is their GPU. Gone are the days when Snapdragon hail supreme, now you have samsong's exynos and Huawei's Helio. They are all good. Where Snapdragon is still king is in Developers support. The others are closed source

***Singing in Olu Maintain's voice*** Dream Dream Dream Dreeeeeaaaam...

Keep dreaming bro. And to show how obvious it was that you didn't even know what you are talking about, you said Helio is from Huawei. That means you don't even know which processors your beloved MTK make. Na wa o.

IMO is nice but they should improve on the following
1. If am typing a message the recipient sees what am about to send
2.Most of the IM doesn't have retract message option apart from bbm and kingchat so they should add that
3. I can't send app or files except they're saying it's restricted to just voice and video calls which isn't too nice because their rival WhatsApp aren't sleeping

Clearly, you haven't heard of telegram.

Most ladies can't back up their accusations these days without mentioning rape , it's now a lifeline kinda stuff .

I only pity the ones who even listen to them .
A rape victim don't usually come out in the open to say " I was raped "
Irritating undecided

I guess that's why ppl like keep on raping women hoping that they would not come out openly to say they were raped. Because the rest of us find the admission "irritating"

Highly inaccurate and what were your basis or criteria for selecting the phones on that list? For instance, what is a HTC One M8 doing on the list? A 2 year old phone that underperformed. Where is Huawei P9 Lite that sells for 79k?

Sports / Nigerians And Their Love For Football by henryskywalker2003(m): 9:20pm On Jul 11, 2016
Nigeria and Football.

In Nigeria, when we want to select or call up players for a football tourney, we always look at the player's skill, ability and track records. The players, when finally selected form the national team and they go on to represent the nation at the tourney. The country watches and follows their games, giving them all the support they need, castigating them when they play rubbish, even clamoring for the removal of players whom they deem irrelevant or not skillful enough. When the team wins, everyone rejoices because it wasn't just the team, but rather, the entire country receives the benefits of the victory. Likewise so, any loss the team has. All these while, from the call-up, to selection, to the game itself, to the cheering and booing, everyone forgets the tribe and religion of the individual player. To them, they are all Nigerians, wearing our national colors, representing each and everyone of us at the International stage. When someone calls for the benching of a player, no one attacks him and says he's doing so because the player isn't from his tribe or religion. Rather the spectators will always offer their own views, supporting or opposing the suggestion. The argument can sometimes get very heated and lead to fights and, even occasionally, deaths of the belligerents. But at the end of the day, it wasn't about the tribe or religion of the players, rather it was about their abilities, performance and impact to the team towards their common goal of winning the game.

This is the only time Nigerians ever unite. Unfortunately, I don't watch football nor care much about the sport. That's why it saddens me that I don't get to see this part of my fellow countrymen. I can tell you, the few times I've seen Nigerians watching a game of football, the sight is spectacular and beautiful that it almost makes you cry when you see these same group of people when the 90mins are up. It makes me wish I could create a 90mins time loop and be stuck in it. A time where we see each other as fellow Nigerians and not as Northerners, Southerners, Niger Deltans, Hausas, Igbos, Yorubas. When we see each other as football fans and not Christians or Muslims. A time when we first ask of a player's ability, skills and impact to the team and not what tribe he/she is from or checking how many of other tribes are in the team compared with yours. A time where we stand or fall in unity as one, not bickering, fighting and killing each other.

Nigerians, it is time we all learn from the game we all love so much. Football

They really need to up their game in Lasgidi. We got a lot of data hungry fellows here. I think they made a blunder by focusing on Abuja over Lagos.

Still slow. Did the speedtest with Vodacom Business Nigeria and it was still slow.

You have a point though. If the available site is quite far from your location, then performance would be awful. I remember when the nearest site to my location was down, I couldn't get up to 10mbps. So, maybe network is very poor at your location. But that doesn't mean that coverage is generally poor in the whole of Lagos.

Given the antecedents of other telcos, ntel servers are most likely located in Lagos, so, naturally, customers in Lagos ought to be getting better speed where coverage and every other condition is on par with those in Abuja.

Exactly, I was actually expecting better speeds in Lagos compared to that of Abuja, thinking due to the sheer number of potential customers here, the network would be more robust than other places.

Anyway, I tried looking for the server you recommended but couldn't find it in the web version of speedtest. I guess it's only on the mobile version or something.

The test server you are connected to is quite messed up. go to settings and select Vodacom Business Nigeria. I just got this now

I will try that when I get to the office tomorrow. I had a mind to change the test server and try again but work happened. But at the same time, I think the network in Abuja may just be better than that in Lagos. That it's an LTE network doesn't mean that it won't have glitches or poor reception especially now they are still rolling out and not fully ironed out the kinks.

Yeah, you read that right. The wait is finally over. Ntel has launched in Lagos. I got mine today at their office on the 17th floor, Necom Building, Marina. Unfortunately, there is no network at my place so, I can only use it around my office for now. There is no voice service for now, only data and you must buy a bundle as you pick up the sim.

Those interested can head over to Marina and purchase or pick up previously reserved sims. Before that you can check with your phone to know if they even have service in your area.

For more info, you can call this number 09087067011. Lanre is the guy's name. He was the one that I met when I went there.

You can read more here https://thotsontech..com.ng/2016/05/ntel-launches-silently-in-lagos.html.

P.S. I will be posting screenshots of the speedtest tomorrow.

Sheybe you see now? You want to drive a car but you don't want to know Anything about it or how to fix it yourself. Why should the mechanic have mercy on you?

It is called "learning". You don't have to know everything in one day. It is constant tussel between you and the mechanic. Which of the 2 of you will get YOUR Money. Him or you? European will gladly buy the repair manual and begin to learn how to repair themselves. Patatapa leave car and use public transport.

Nigerians, have money. And I will help you finish it!

Dude, you see why I can't call you dumb. Using your analogy, why aren't you learning how to treat yourself when you fall ill instead of going to the hospital. Why don't you learn how to manufacture those drugs instead of buying. In fact, there is a lot of stuff u need to learn since you have learned how to fix your car. Mscheeew.

Since you know all this INFORMATION, why don't you repair the car yourself?
The PURPOSE of the mechanic is to make as much money of you as possible if not he will be out of business. He will play every trick in the book to play dumb. And just when you think he is no good, he will suddenly solve one pressing issue in your car. Hence you get to pay him GRATEFULLY, for that which he has done.
You are the dumb ass. In Europe, people buy repair manuals and fix the cars themselves. Be prepared to pay with your Arm and Leg the moment you take your car to the mechanic and stop forming Professor wet no get job.
Abi, if you sabi am, why you no get workshop?

The Europe wey dey ur backyard abi? So, there are no mechanics in Europe abi? Cos everyone knows how to fix their own cars. Calling u dumb is a huge insult to dumb folks.

So, I noticed that I am starting to get lazy and losing my creative spirit gradually and decided to do something about it. So, I want to try my hands on blogging as a part time hobby. Couldn't decide on whether to use wordpress or blogger cos I really don't know the cons and pros of each, but in the end, I decided to go with blogger simply because it's google and I assume it would be easier to manage and integrate into my google account.

Anyway, the blog is going to be a tech blog. Basically, any thing that catches my attention in the tech industry including but not limited to phones, apps, computers, gadgets, etc. No GSM cheats or any stuff like that. For now, I just have 2 posts there, I wouldn't mind having some critics and castigators have a look at it and offer ideas on how I can improve it.

The blog is http://thotsontech..com.ng.
