One thing you should know about football is this, the club you play for matters. Imagine with De Bruyne’s talent he will not be rated highly when calling great midfielders because he played his peak career in a club that is still looking for relevance at world stage. With that talent, What if he was part of Real Madrid team that won 3 ucl in a roll, think of how highly he will be rated. One of the major reasons talented players want to always go to massive clubs like Barca or Real Madrid. Same thing Lampard faced, Chelsea was still looking for relevance then when he played, imagine with his talent and uniqueness he was in Real Madrid he will be regarded as top three midfielder the world have ever seen. What was his uniqueness? An attacking midfielder that can score that amount of goals and also assist that much. As a talented player the club you play for determine how highly you will be rated and regarded.

Fast transitional football is what the coach was playing with those two in midfield. If Owen H was fit the tactics would’ve been perfect or rather worked well.

If Lampard was always thinking about PK how did he get more assist than scholes who was always thinking about spreading passes. Roy keane and Viera were stubborn and not reckless. They were CDM so making tackles was their primary duty. Scholes was reckless as a CM, his defensive frailties was always showing so playing him behind Gerrard and Lampard would’ve been more suicidal. Owen H would’ve be the right player behind those two, not scholes.

It is because Scholes play their kind of football in La Masia, but however they are not the only mout piece of football. I can also bring out what great players and coaches said about Lampard.

The thing is England FA never got it right in terms of recruiting the right coaches for the team during that golden era of players they had. They were consistently recruiting idiots that lacked ideas as the national team coaches. Gerrard and lampards penalty padded goal scoring stats in their clubs didn't help those coaches either. They were so fixated on having those two play together , forgetting that they are like for like sub for eachother, thereby the experiment was failing consistently. It was the same problem they had playing Terry and Ferdinand together in defence, when they are both the same styled players thereby shipping in goals anyhow.

Gerrard and Lampard are just a better version of Ross Barkely . they only know how to run and run with the ball in midfield and with little ingenuity. when everywhere is blocked, they can't improvise, they will just result in wayward shooting evrytime. that is why those two usually record a very high number of shots per game.

Go watch Lampard pass to Ramires against Barcelona, Lampard pass to Drogba against man city and so many other passes from him.
