Good evening my sweet and wonderful family.. I hope we are all doing well? Candygosh, xcelsia, Christine, tollu, osyxel, obinoscopy, hephzi, odunharry, and the newbies (hope I didn't forget any name?).. Lol...

Okay I can't quote all posts but I hope to use this one stone to kill several birds.

Truth is, even when I come on nairaland, I get really scared and emotional opening this thread, probably I'm struggling to accept some things or whatever, but even as I have opened the thread today and I've read thrpugh , the show of love still makes tears roll down my cheeks. 2sexi's friend's case as well makes my heart beat so fast.. I just wish! I wish! I wish we never had such ailments as this *tears* it is well...... After all God says he wouldn't give us more than we can bear? #phew!

Like I told the family, we were to be at the hospital on Thursday, as we got there, the unionists were protesting and everywhere was locked! STRIKE!!!!! I wonder how long that is going to last? We ended up going back home. He told me he is having urine retention again? After the surgery Hmmm.. I'm so scared! The stress is much for him!

As for the hook-up, its a nice idea, but I plead to be excused, I'm running so many things now that I don't have a 'me' time. Shuttling to drop of my kids at school, attend to daddy (at least so my mum could get some rest) isn't as easy.

anyone in the house based in Ibadan?

Hello family cheesy how is everyone doing?
So sorry I've been away for a while, been so moody.

My hair has been falling out non-stop due to the first chemo but I stubbornly refused to cut it (spent so much time, money, energy angry on it) . The decision to go bald was almost as tough as deciding to have a mastectomy :-/

Am good now though cheesy I missed you all.

nigerians do not only import softwares, we import unnecessary and irrelevant things in the believe that our own locally produced r low class. Until how whole mentally is redefined we will continue to import everything importable unless there is a ban on it.

I just stumbled on this thread today. I really do not know what more to say to you ladies. Candy and hepzi you ladies are Strong! God almighty will see you tru dis phase. I had three lumps removed from the both breasts 4 yrs ago. Anoda one was removed two years ago. It was really a hard tym for me. D results showed it was benign growth. Fibroadenoma i think.
its a great thing it turned out benign. But its a wake up call to start living healthy and you'll be fine.

This is a great thread and we really need something like this is Nigeria. Thank you for starting this @ Candygosh
I found a lump almost 2 months ago and I've been to the hospital to have it checked out a couple of times. The last time I visited, the surgeon I was referred to said he could not feel anything and scheduled an ultrasound. Ultrasound too didn't see anything and the radiographer also said he couldn't feel it.

Well, I can feel it though it really is small and the area needs to be pinched in order to feel it.
Before I am totally dismissed as an hypochondriac at my current health care facility, can anyone recommend a stress free place in Lagos where they would be willing to listen and patient enough to run correct tests?

As I've learnt on the oyinbo forums "the best kind of lump is that which is in a jar".
kudos to u for being very observant and persistent. Most of the doctors or surgeons u meet during consultation do not really know much about cancer and are most likely to be very dismissive. I don't know about hospitals in lagos, candygosh should be able to help u with that. This doesn't mean you should get all worked up in fear tho, it might just turn out to be something benign. Not all lumps are cancerous/malignant.

its being two years then. You should take a mammogram or needle biopsy. See a doctor.
Be back with updates. Im sure things wil turn out fine
needle biopsy in naija? Lol. Most cancer facilities in nigeria lack such equipments. A mammogram is the best she can get.

Hephzi dear, she's doing good, moody at times but she's hanging in there lol
Good, as long as she has the will to keep living, she'll go far. Always remind her that she is not alone in the fight and also, everyone has his own private battle, it may not be cancer, it may b a kidney disease, a mental disorder, poverty e.t.c. As long as you are alive, you must have ur battle to fight and she must not give up

Candygosh, Odunharry, xcelsia, Hephzi, Osyxcel,
Thanks for all your replies.

Candygosh, the lumpectomy was done in 2012 at University of Abuja teaching hospital. Can I still request for the extracted lump at this time?

Will go to UCH this week and I will be sure to keep you guys updated.

Will try to start eating healthier from now on...

Thanks guys!!!!
if u had the lumpectomy in 2012 and till now no recurrence, u have nothing to worry about seriously. But if u still feel like, u can go ahead. Yes, tho u may not get the extracted lump but they'll give u an already prepared and preserved in a kind of wax block sample.

Hmmm, Very well said.

Can reconstruction really cause that to happen or is it just a phobia?

So Chemo will take care of the recurrence right?
no, reconstruction doesn't cause recurrence.
No doctor will ever give you the assurance that chemo will take care of recurrence. I have asked these question several times from different doctors and I always get the same answer, UNCERTAINTY. Its always a 50:50 chance that it will reoccur or it won't depending on the stage tho.

Also avoiding sugary stuff(by sugary I mean refined white sugar), canned foods and generally processed and preserved foods.
Drink lots of water too and excercise frequently to sweat off toxic substances from ur body.

I have read about this soursop thing but I don't know the potency yet. I have just started taking it so I will post the pictures.

Soursop juice cocktail
5 leaves branches + stem
5 medium sized garlic cloves
7 ginger sprout

then stuff in a pot and boil. Then I sip while hot. My goal is to take 3 teacup in a day but I have only managed in taking one lol
I hate that stuff, my mum forced me to take it cos she heard of its potency too. Not taking it again tho.

Someone help, my mum's own is advanced, the breast is with injuries and completely eaten.... Although, she was to undergo surgery to remove the breast, but she declined.

Please. I do not want to lose my Mum to cancer.
keep praying for her, I still believe in the power of prayers. She should be given chemotherapy before surgery, that will destroy some of the cancer cells and kind of shrink it to an operable size. I knw she has probably given up on living that's why she is rejecting treatment, its must be very difficult for her so try to encourage her, be thr for her and most importantly donot force her to do what she doesn't want to do. Again do not stop praying for her. It is well with you

Hi ladies, let me first say thank you to candygosh for opening this thread and a big well-done for all the beautiful contributions.

My mum was diagnosed of an aggressive type of breast cancer and in less than 4 months, we lost her. cry cry cry.

Had a lumpectomy some few months later and the histology results came as a benign growth.

I still feel this apprehension like I need to go for further tests and with this month being breast cancer awareness month and all. Pls do you guys know where I can do a mammography? I'm currently in Oyo State.

Thanks ladies.
I'd like to put your mind at rest, the doctors have said its benign so relax o. That doesn't mean you shouldn't start living healthier tho.
