Education / FG Approves N400bn Fund For Varsities, Say SSANU by herbeedar(m): 10:10am On Nov 02, 2017
FG approves N400bn fund for varsities, say SSANU

The Federal Government has approved the sum of N400 billion for infrastructural development and provision of basic needs for Nigerian universities in line with its plans to make them meet international standards.

President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) Comrade Samson Ugwoke stated this at the weekend while addressing union members at SSANU’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the University of Abuja.
Ugwoke said document on the approval will be made available today at the meeting of the Presidential Committee on Implementation of the needs assessment in the universities with the leaders of SSANU, National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
While briefing members on the activities of the Governor Gabriel Suswam’s led universities needs assessment implementation committee, Ugwoke said the mentioned sum is different from the N100 billion Governor Suswam has raised to tackle the problems of Nigerian universities in the year 2013.
“Let me give you a tip of what the Needs Assessment Committee is doing. The President has approved that within the next four years, N400 billion would be expended in infrastructural development of Nigerian universities to transform the universities to international standard.
“N100 billion has been raised by Suswam Committee; he has done that already. Sixty one universities have been pencilled down as contained in the Needs Assessment Committee report. These 61 universities will share the N100 billion in various categories which include refurbishing and renovation of lecture theatres and lecture halls, refurbishing and renovation of laboratory/library and the renovation of hostels.
“The second category is building of new hostels of international standard; self-contain rooms, the latest model in the world. That is the standard to be built in every university, and also the state of the art laboratories as well as classrooms, lecture theatres and the halls,” Ugwoke said.
Speaking of welfare of members, Ugwoke said: “I know that our members will be saying that what does the committee says about our members. I can assure you that our members will never be relegated, they will never be sacked or retrenched, there is nothing like that in the terms of reference of the Presidential Committee on the Implementation of Needs Assessment.”

Education / Kaduna Govt Declares KASU ASUU Strike Illegal by herbeedar(m): 9:42am On Sep 16, 2017
The Kaduna state government has said that it will not be liable for the salaries of lecturers of the state owned university while the strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU lasts because the strike is illegal. In a statement in Kaduna signed by the spokesman to the state governor, Samuel Aruwan, the state government said there is no dispute between it and ASUU. “The Kaduna State Government is in receipt of communication from the Kaduna State University, KASU branch of ASUU, confirming that the branch has joined the nation-wide strike because they are full members of the national union. “This is unacceptable to the state government. It is an anomaly that employees can be on strike without declaring a dispute with their employer. It bears restating that Nigeria is a federation of states, and no trade union can alter this federal reality by imposing on an employer state government the terms that federal employees have agreed with the Federal Government. “The Kaduna State Government is not affected, or bound by any dispute, disagreement or agreement ASUU may have with the Federal Government. As a sub- national entity, the Kaduna State Government is separate from the Federal Government of Nigeria. The Constitution of Nigeria clearly attests to this. “It is the considered view of the Kaduna State Government that the KASU branch of ASUU has embarked on an unlawful strike. Therefore, the Kaduna State Government is not liable for salaries and allowances for the period of the unlawful strike. “The government shall proceed to initiate the necessary disciplinary steps in accordance with Kaduna State Public Service Rules with respect to the individual acts of commission or omission of those that choose to join or persist in an unlawful strike” the statement added.

It is a common proverb that "we may know the beginning of a fight, but nobody knows what will be the end of that fight"
As ethnic lords from the North, East, West
and South continue in efforts to trigger a
second civil war, international military
hardware merchants who brainwashed the foreign based agitators to employ an
uncompromising attitude are instigating
and preparing to sell their arms while we
get our parents, wives and children ready to pay the bitter prices.
The gullible ones believe war is the answer
and provoking same by their words and
actions each passing day, the unwise ones
are so selfish and inconsiderate, refusing to caution their people, thinking that their
families or any part of the country will be
immune to the consequences of a possible
2017 civil war simply because they didn't
participate in the agitation.
Perhaps, many do not know that the Civil
War didn't extend beyond Ore to the West
and didn't exceed Benue to the North. At
the very end, both gladiators (Gowon &
Ojukwu) lived because they never set foot
upon the battlefield of the wars they ignited but over three million innocent women, children and elderly died unnecessarily. Meanwhile, all the crooks travelled to safe areas with their families just as would repeat should another civil war breakout.
Niger Delta militant generals are all alive
but over 60% of their boys are dead, Al
Zakzarki is alive but hundreds of his gullible followers are dead.
As you continue to conjure the next civil
war, call for a town hall meeting in your
respective communities and prepare the
minds of your aged parents for a violent
death, counsel your wives and daughters of the emotional trauma that incessant rapes would create because surely over 30% shall be raped in just 6mths of chaos. Also, make plans because most of your children shall become orphans and child soldiers and those who survive shall end up in IDP Camps in Niger, Chad, Benin Republic and Cameroon.
The last Civil war was ignited on a
conference table and was also resolved on a conference table.
I huge our youths to watch a video on Nigeria history or videos of civil war in other country to know the aftermath and diverstating effects of the war on the citizens and the country it self.

My fellow brothers and sisters don't let us be an instrument to write another negative history in the book of this Nation.
I don't want to loose my friends from any tribes in Nigeria.

Education / LASU Sacks ASUU Chairman, Vice, 15 Others by herbeedar(m): 6:10pm On Sep 08, 2017
The Lagos State University (LASU) Governing
Council has dismissed 15 Academic Staff,
including the Chairman and Vice Chairman
of Academic Staff Union of University
(ASUU) of the institution, over various
malpractices.
The dismissed LASU-ASUU Chairman and
Vice Chairman were Dr Isaac Oyewunmi
and Dr Adebowale Adeyemi-Suenu.
LASU spokesman Ademola Adekoya, said in
Lagos on Friday that the institution also
dismissed two non-academician staff and
demoted two others.
Adekoya said that the decision to dismiss
the staff was taken at LASU 115th
Governing Council Meeting on on Thursday.
“Pursuant thereto, the Governing Council
with immediate effect dismissed 15
members of the academic staff, two
members of non-academic staff, and
sanctioned two others for different acts of
misconduct
Oyewunmi was dismissed for demanding
N50, 000 from students while Adeyemi-
Suenu was sacked for “unilaterally altered
the results of 12 students already advised to
withdraw by Senate’’
Adekoya said the council established that
Oyewunmi demanded N50, 000 from 2003
modular year students of Political Science
Education on the sandwich programme to
process their results.
According to the council, Oyewunmi is
found culpable of attempt to obtain money
for himself as an inducement to carry out
his duties, and consequently dismissed
from the service of the university.
Adekoya said that the university established
that Adeyemi-Suenu unilaterally altered the
results of 12 students already advised to
withdraw by Senate in the Department of
History and International Studies in the
2015/2016 academic session.
“He changed their status from “withdrawn”
to “good standing”. He also changed the
results of some final year students and
stragglers outside the scope of the
departmental decision.
“Dr Adeyemi-Suenu also awarded grade
point of 2.0 to two students in an
examination which they were absent.
“This is tantamount to manipulation of
students results in contravention of
provisions of the Conditions and Scheme of
Service for Senior Staff and therefore
dismissed from the service of the
university,’’ he said.
Among others dismissed for various
financial and academic misconduct are Mr
Olatoye Raji, Dr Olugbenro Odofin, Dr
Adebowale Ademeso, Dr John Adeogun, Dr
Scholastica Udegbe and Dr Olufemi Soyeju.
Other were Dr Olawale Raimi, Mr Ademola
Adesina, Dr Shamisudeen Badmus, Dr
Christiana Obagbuwa, Dr Emmanuel Asapo,
Mr Lateef Salami, Olubukola Oyeniya and Dr
Fatimat Bakare.(NAN)
