PFN disagrees with CAN on Osun education policy


The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria has distanced itself from the statement credited to the Christian Association of Nigeria that the reclassification of schools in the Osun State can lead to terrorism.

The PFN added that such talks could destabilise the government.

A statement on Wednesday said in a gathering with government officials at Ibokun, the representative of Osun State Chairman, PFN, Ijesa Zone, Pastor Joel Balogun, noted that the policy was implemented to solve problems relating to education in the state.

Balogun said, “That the school reclassification can trigger terrorism is mere rumour and we in PFN can never be carried away by such.

“We understand that the exercise is aimed at cutting cost and ensuring proper monitoring of our schools, with a view to getting the best for our children.

“We are not politicians, we are men of God, but we have seen that this government is doing well in terms of development and we are praying for the success of the government.

“Instead of gossiping, we, as men of God owe it a duty to evangelise to people and bring people to our fold and that is what we should be doing.”

While urging the government to make sure that the schools that have been merged continue with their names as promised, he said this would settle the issues generated by the reclassification exercise.

The Chairman, Obokun II chapter of the fellowship, Remi Adediran, also urged religion leaders not to mislead their followers.

He said instead of criticising the government’s programmes and policies on education and other programmes, the government should rather be commended.

In their separate submission, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye; the lawmaker representing Obokun state constituency, Samson Fafiyebi; the Commissioner for Environment, Professor Bukola  Oyawoye; and Special Adviser on Agriculture, Festus Agunbiade, said the school reclassification was to help students get qualitative education.

Traditionalists, CAN disagree over Osun schools crisis

OSOGBO — Traditionalists in Osun State under the aegis of Traditional Worshipers Association have blamed the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in the state for allegedly inciting Christians against the state government over the recent merger of public primary and secondary schools in the state.

The President of the association, Chief Idowu Awopetu, who spoke in Osogbo, yesterday, accused the leadership of CAN in the state of fanning the ember of discord among the people of the state on the education policy of the Governor Rauf Aregbesola led government.

He alleged that the leadership of CAN has shown a high level intolerance with adherents of other faiths in the state, pointing out that the recent merger of public schools could not have generated crisis if Christians are accommodating and tolerant of other believers.

He described as absurd a statement credited to the state chairman of CAN, Rev. Elisha Ogundiya that the recent merger of schools embarked upon by the state government was capable of triggering terrorism, saying that such statement, capable of causing crisis, should have been avoided by a religious leader.

“We expect credible leadership of a religious organisation like CAN to be mindful of their utterances, especially those that can fan the ember of discord in our dear state, knowing the volatile nature of security and religion in our country,” he stressed.

He also called on security agencies in the state to investigate the CAN chairman over the statement credited to him, just as he warned the CAN Chairman not to provoke the adherents of other faiths in the state.

Chief Awopetu recalled that government had since 1975 taken over the ownership of schools from the missionary, and warned the CAN leadership in the state not to refer to any public school as missionary school irrespective of the name it bears.

He also challenged the leadership of CAN in the state to present evidence of their contributions to the up-keep of the schools referred to as missionary schools in the last 35 years.

CAN reacts

Osun State chairman of Christian Association of Nigerian, Rev. Elisha Ogundiya in his reaction to the allegation, said the leadership of the association are people of peace, who have been co-existing with other religous leaders in the state peacefully.

“We are not inciting anybody against the government in Osun State. What we are only doing is to protect the interest of Christians in the state and they are equally free to protect the interest of their members too.”

Ibadan is very decent to stay, you can get 3 bedroom flat at rate of 70k depends on the area. The only job you can easily get in ibadan is teaching, standard of living in ibadan is very easy unlike lagos
I remembered 8yrs ago when I finished my service year and I promised myself that I would not return to my parent house in lagos, a mth to end my service year I went to ibadan to get 2bedroom flat at rate of 36k then, immediately I finished my service year I went to my parent house I showed them my certificate from there I moved to ibadan on the same day, that's how I became ARA IBADAN

I didn't discourage anybody but my advice for anybody is that they shud go there first and do the survey b4 they can decide to do any business or work there because Ghana is not a place you can go and decide to do any business without partner with one of ghananians UNLIKE nigeria. They are not employing foreigner into their company except you can apply for security job or selling pure water and small small work that ghananian can't do.
There were many nigerians that believe ghana is better than nigeria and they decided to come to ghana unfortunately for them, they needed to sell pure water to get their transport fare back to nigeria when they were stranded

I bought a mini laptop from aliexpress and I didn't use it for more than a mth that the laptop turn to desktop, d battery was poor, the laptop itself it something else, I need to give it to my son to use it as a toy

The fire was caused by one of d company engine. Infact, his two manager of the company were collapsed and fainted when they reached the company yesterday because they were not around the company they were in other company closed to them, He has 2 company in Ayobo one in Onikanga while the 2nd is in bada balogun area

Ibadan ke, mr man I don't know how to succeed in ibadan for the transportation business, have u considered that cab is everywhere in ibadan than lagos, infact people prefer enter cab than bus and as matter of fact those cab drivers are complaining now in ibadan that cabs are now more than b4, so no more profit again
