Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo olu today presented the staff of office to the 15th Oniru of oniru land, HRM Oba Abdul-wasiu omognbolahan Lawal (Abisogun II)

Due the Corona virus epidemic, the new king was ushered in with less fanfare in order to comply with safety rules. In attendance at the occasion were deputy governor of Lagos State, Mr Obafemi Hamzat and the wife of his royal majesty and other Chiefs of Iru land.

In his words, the governor urged all sons and daughters of Iruland to rally round the new king and join hands with him for the progress of Iruland, and Lagos in general.

Continuing, the governor stated "As an accomplished man with an extensive public service record, I have no doubt that his reign will be a progressive one. The ascension of HRM, Oba Lawal to the throne, marks the start of the next phase of the journey of Iruland into growth, progress and greater development."

The governor also commended the kingmakers and elders of Iruland as well as the ruling houses for the peace and mutual understanding that have characterised the process that led to the installation of the new monarch. According to him, "This is a remarkable feat, worthy of commendation and emulation. "

Fuji star Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1 de ultimate) also performed virtually at the occasion.

Luis Suárez Miramontes also known by the diminutive Luisito , is a Spanish former footballer and manager. He played as a midfielder for Deportivo de La Coruña, CD España Industrial, FC Barcelona, Inter Milan, Sampdoria and Spain . Suárez is regarded as one of Spain ' s greatest players; he was noted for his elegant, fluid , graceful style of play . Nicknamed El Arquitecto ( The Architect ) he was noted for his perceptive passing and explosive shot and in 1960 he became the only Spanish -born player to be voted Ballon d'Or . In 1964 he helped Spain win the European Championship. Suarez originally achieved prominence as a creative inside forward or attacking midfielder for the great Barcelona team of the 1950 s before he joined Inter Milan where he reached his prime as deep lying playmaker for the legendary Grande Inter team of the 1960 s . He played a pivotal role in the success Herrera' s Inter Milan side , and was one of the primary creative forces in the squad , due to his ball skills , vision , and passing range. He retired as a player in 1973 , after three seasons at Sampdoria .

Suárez subsequently began a career as a coach and has managed Inter Milan on three separate occasions , the last two on a caretaker basis . Suárez has also coached both Spain U 21 s and the senior Spain team . He was in charge of the latter for 27 games and led them to the second round of the 1990 World Cup. The former speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Toney Isenah, on Monday made a U-turn, and tendered his resignation letter as the ‘speaker’ of the assembly, seven days after he was controversially removed by the lawmakers.

Mr Isenah was replaced on September 30 with a lawmaker representing Southern Ijaw Constituency 2, Monday Bubou-Obolo.

But he rejected his ‘impeachment’ as illegal and said he remained the speaker of the assembly.

Mr Isenah’s resignation letter, which was backdated to September 30, was read during plenary on Monday.

My resignation was for the peace and the “greater good” of Bayelsa state, the former speaker told the House.

Mr Bubou-Obolo presided over the plenary.

Aotendeike Boloigha, the media aide to the former speaker, confirmed the development to PREMIUM TIMES, Wednesday night.

Mr Isenah, who is from the same Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area as Douye Diri, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been under pressure to resign.

But he had continuously resisted such pressure.

“I have not committed any crime. If I am supposed to resign, I know that, maybe, based on federal character principle, if my local government area produces the governor and when he is sworn in, ordinarily I was to leave,” Mr Isenah said in an interview he granted Channels television, a few hours after his reported impeachment.

“It’s not as if there is any law that the two can’t come from the same place. We should be talking about good governance. I am the speaker of the state and not the speaker of any group.”

Mr Isenah told Channels that he did not enter into any agreement to resign if Mr Diri wins the PDP governorship primary.

The former speaker said Mr Diri can still win the general election, even with himself remaining in office as the speaker.

“Why is it that I am now the sacrificial lamb? Why are they making it look like I am against Kolokuma-Opokuma producing the next governor? That is not right,” he said.
